• Is writing eSQL database agnostic?

  Using EF we can use LINQ to read data which is rather simple (especialy using fluent calls), but we have less control unless we write eSQL on our own. Is writing eSQL database actually data store independant code? So if we decide to change data store, can the same statements still be used? Is writing eSQL strings in your code pose any serious security threats similar to writing TSQL statements in plain strings? So we moved to SPs. Could we still mode eSQL scripts outside of code as well and use some other technique to make them a bit more secure?

• iPhone in App purchase : Working but Not

  Hi, I have added in App purchase functionality within my application. We have tested it successfully on iPhone (in sandbox mode). After successfully testing, we sent the application for final testing to tester situated at other country. In strange case, the tester is not able to test in App purchase functionality. He is getting "Invalid Product Id" error. We are giving same build to tester which is working perfectly at our side. The whole application is working perfectly except in app purchase functionality. • ASP.NET Session expires in no time?

  Weired problem! ASP.NET Session expires instantly. In my web.config I have this session settings: <sessionState mode="InProc" timeout="10000" /> AFAIK the timeout attribute's value is in minutes and can't be greater than 525,600 minutes (1 year). I don't understand what I am doing wrong here. Why is the session expiring. Is it a server memory issue? I don't think so, the server is pretty descent and it has only one site which isn't doing much after all. Ideas? EDIT: After setting the cookiless attribute to true, and while noticing the session id on the url, I can see that the session id CHANGING. I assume that this means the session is expiring. The IIS Settings are correct AFAIK (the enable session state checkbox is checked, and the value of the time is 20). A Picture is worth 100 words:

• WCF with No security

  Hi all, I've got a WCF service setup which I can consume and use as intendid... but only on the same machine. I'm looking to get this working over multiple computers and I'm not fussed about the security. However when I set (client side) the security to = none, I get a InvalidOperationException: The service certificate is not provided for target 'http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8731/Design_Time_Addresses/WcfServiceLibrary/ManagementService/'. Specify a service certificate in ClientCredentials. • DPM 2010 "Disk failed or disk not found"

  I have an HP Proliant ML110 G5 server with Windows server 2008R2 only dedicated for DPM 2010. This server has a limit in HD of 8TB which has already been met. I'm now stuck in this situation where my disk keeps failing "Disk failed or Disk not found" in the disk management. Only after I reboot the system the disk comes back up. Today I was running my monthly tape backup on a certain protection group and the disk failed again while the tape job was running (so the job wasn't completed). This is the description of the error in the alerts: "The disk Disk 1 - Hitachi HDS722020ALA330 SCSI Disk Device cannot be detected or has stopped responding. All subsequent protection activities that use this disk will fail until the disk is brought back online. (ID 3120)". My backup system is becoming useless! I don't think that is a hardware issue (please correct me if I'm wrong) since the HD works fine for a certain period of time which is becoming shorter and shorter. I basically have no more option to fix this problem. I tried to fix any error that was coming up in the event viewer with no luck (included one regarding the SQL2008 compatibility issue). The disk keeps failing! Now I'm only trying to recover/migrate the data from the disk that is having problem but my issue now is that I cannot add any drives to my server since I already got installed the maximum storage capacity 8TB. I thought about 2 simple options. Please tell me what you guys think about it; Unplug one of the 2 storage pool disks (disk0, that one without problem) from the machine and install a new one in order to migrate the data with the Migration tool for DPM. Remove the defective disk (disk1), put back the disk0 and run the synchronization/consistency check on all the groups to recreate replicas and recovery points. Run diskpart.exe and clean up the disk (loosing all data) and hoping that he will work after I sync all the protection groups. Both solutions are not elegant but I have no better options at the moment. Please I need some help. Thanks for your time Angelo

• How to get target element of keypress in designmode iframe

  Is it possible to get the target element in a keypress event handler in a design mode iframe ? I know it can be done in the mousedown event handler (by accessing event.target), but in the keypress / keydown handlers event.target is always the iframe element. For example, with the following html, if the user types into the div where it says * key press here *, I would like in the keypress / keydown event handler to be able to determine that the target element is the div with id='b'. • How to Debug XAML Parsing Errors in Silverlight?

  I run into the following issue semi-regularly: I make changes to XAML or some resources used by it and when I go to load up the Silverlight project in debug mode it only gets as far as the spinning Silverlight-loading animation. I've tried attaching the VS08 debugger to the process but it doesn't do anything at this point (works fine once I'm in the Silverlight but not before.) From previous experience I've noticed this happens when there're problems with the XAML or the resources in it but my only solution so far has been to dissect the code line-by-line until I spot the problem. Is there an easy way to debug/diagnose these situations? UPDATE I found this question with some help, but it still doesn't provide a good way to debug these types of issues.

• Visual Studio ignore try catch - debug only

  I think error handling is a good idea. :) When debugging it can get in the way - especially with nice user friendly messages. In VB6 I could just check a box for the compiler to ignore my error handling. I found the dialog that allows me to do something similar in VS, but it's about 10,000 check boxes instead of one - which is too many to change every time I want a production compilation. Is there a way to set VS up so when I am in debugging mode I get one set of conditions and when I am in production I get another? ...or is there just another method to handling errors and debugging more efficiently?   I just deployed a new Fedora 17 server on the Amazon EC2. I was able to log in as ec2-user with my generated keypair, but I cannot log in under normal circumstances as a user I created. • JBOSS 7.1 started hanging after 6 months of deployment

  My application is been live from 6 months. The application is host on jboss 7.1 server. From last few days I am finding numerous problem of hanging of jboss server. Though I restart the jboss server again, it does not invoke. I need to restart the server machine itself. Can anyone please let me know what could be the cause of these problems and the workable resolutions or any suggestion ? Kindly dont degrade the question as I am facing a lot problems due to this hanging issue. Also for the information, the application is based on Java, GWT, Hibernate 3. • Interface Photoshop size for iPhone app

  Hello, I am building an iPhone app interface and I know the dpi has to be 163, but when it comes to the size of the file, I was looking through all the recommendations and found 2 different answers... Does anyone know what size should i set the Photoshop file at? The answers I have so far are: "The screen on the iPhone is 480×320, minus the 20-pixel status bar (making a 460×320 working screen size). The screen shots on the App Store should not include the status bar." "400 x 320 or 960 x 640 (iPhone 4) You must also consider the landscape mode (320 x 400 and 640 x 960)" I would really appreciate the answer. Thanks!

• Upgrading to IIS7 stopped Firefox from receiving cookies?

  Our website has been using IIS6 for a long time. We test on IE8, Firefox, and Chrome. All browsers worked fine. We recently did an upgrade to IIS7, and Chrome and IE8 continue to work normally, but Firefox appears to be unable to get the ASP session cookie. As a result, when our code checks the Session[] object, we see nothing, we think the user has logged out, and the site resets your session. Does anyone know why upgrading to IIS7 would cause this behavior in Firefox? We've: 1) Reverted our application pool back to classic mode (no change); 2) Added a dummy value in the Global.asax object (no change); and 3) changed the web.config file from "authentication cookieless=autodetect" to "cookieless=usercookie" and back (no change).

• A control that contains multiple duplicate properties causing deadlock issues on IIS

  I am trying to work out if the above case is true for our site. I've been told by my hosting provider that this fix (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/974165) has to applied to our server due to performance issues. • ASP.NET MVC How do i close fancybox on form post

What i want is for the popup for to be posted and the fancy box to be closed.   Hi, i am currently trying to get Input Mode Editor (IME) support working with a designMode enabled IFrame. The problem here is with Opera it seems I don't get any useful notifications from the IME. It seems I get a single keydown with a keycode of 197 if the first time the IME is used - and nothing else ever again (No keycode 229 messages, no textinput event). With all other browsers keydown events with an keycode of 229 seem to be common if there is something happening in the scope of the IME. And with some goodwill and combination of keyup with keycode 13 and textinput events it seems to be possible to detect the moment the sequence is done. Thanks

• Windows 7 x64 "upgrade" repair fails

  I've been running into issues with Windows Update, which I can't seem to fix. The hotfixes don't work, nor does the Windows update readyness tool, or the manual SP1 upgrade. I get various esoteric errors which nobody seems to have a fix for. Looks like some of the update cache is corrupt and digital signatures seem to be broken on some packages / Windows Update components. Long story short, I have discovered the only option is to do a repair operation on the OS, to repair everything. It's so corrupt that only a complete replacement will fix it. According to various sources (including MSKB) one can perform a repair by running an in-place upgrade. I've got the Windows 7 Ultimate retail disc, which I've inserted into my machine. I ran setup.exe and went through in the following order: Install now Go online to get latest updates (I've also tried not getting updates) Wait for updates to be downloaded Select Windows 7 Ultimate (x64 architecture) and click next Accept the T&Cs, click next Click Upgrade At this point it spends a minute on the "checking compatibility" screen, after which I get the following error: The following issues are preventing Windows from upgrading. Cancel the upgrade, complete each task, and then restart the upgrade to continue. You can’t upgrade 64-bit Windows to a 32-bit version of Windows. To upgrade, obtain a 64-bit version of the installation disc, or go online to see how to install Windows 7 and keep your files and settings. 32-bit Windows cannot be upgraded to a 64-bit version of Windows. To upgrade, obtain a 32-bit version of the Windows installation disc. It also mentions a warning about potential conflicts with a storage driver and VS2010, but that doesn't seem to be the blocking issue. My currently installed version of Windows is Ultimate 64-bit (absolutely sure of this) and the disc is definitely a x86 / x64 combined Ultimate retail disc. There seem to be a few people who have run into this (e.g. this question), but I've not seen any answers. I've checked the event viewer, but can't spot anything in there that's related. Any idea how I can get this working? P.S: Just to pre-empt the inevitable "are you suuuuuuuuuuuuure it's x64 Ultimate?" questions:

• asp.net 2.0 session timeout

  I apologize in advance for this likely being asked before. I have an asp.net 2.0 web application and am trying to set the session timeout. My first attempt was to add this to the web.config. < sessionState mode="InProc" timeout="300" Users would tell me though that after about 20 minutes of being idle and then trying to do something again on the site they'd be redirected back to the login page. So now I'm trying timeout="60" in my < forms tag in the web.config. I also tried Session.Timeout=60 in my global.asax. Should these work? Do I need something else? Thank you for your time and help.

  I have a web service that I am trying to test in Visual Web Developer Express Edition (Service Pack 1). I am working with two different websites on two different branches from an SVN repository but largely the same code. The web services are the same code but there are some code differences for other features. My problem is that when going to the web service specification page in debug mode (i.e. MyWebService.asmx) there should be text fields for inputting parameters for that web service. On one of these web sites the fields are available. On another they are not available. I don't understand why/how there should be any differences between the two setups.

• Assign fixed IP address via DHCP by DNS lookup

  Preface I'm building a virtualization environment with Ubuntu 14.04 and LXC. I don't want to write my own template since the upgrade from 12.04 to 14.04 has shown that backwards compatibility is not guaranteed. Therefore I'm deploying my virtual machines via lxc-create, using the default Ubuntu template. The DNS for the servers is provided by Amazon Route 53, so no local DNS server is needed. I also use Puppet to configure my servers, so I want to keep the manual effort on the deployment minimal. Now, the default Ubuntu template assigns IP addresses via DHCP. Therefore, I need a local DHCP server to assign IP addresses to the nodes, so I can SSH into them and get Puppet running. Since Puppet requires a proper DNS setup, assigning temporary IP addresses is not an option, the client needs to get the right hostname and IP address from the start. Question What DHCP server do I use and how do I get it to assign the IP address based only on the host-name DHCP option by performing a DNS lookup on that very host name? What I've tried I tried to make it work using the ISC DHCP server, however, the manual clearly states: Please be aware that only the dhcp-client-identifier option and the hardware address can be used to match a host declaration, or the host-identifier option parameter for DHCPv6 servers. For example, it is not possible to match a host declaration to a host-name option. This is because the host-name option cannot be guaranteed to be unique for any given client, whereas both the hardware address and dhcp-client-identifier option are at least theoretically guaranteed to be unique to a given client. I also tried to create a class that matches the hostname like this: class "my-client-name" { match if option host-name = "my-client-name"; fixed-address my-client-name.my-domain.com; } Unfortunately the fixed-address option is not allowed in class statements. I can replace it with a 1-size pool, which works as expected: subnet 10.103.0.0 netmask 255.255.0.0 { option routers 10.103.1.1; class "my-client-name" { match if option host-name = "my-client-name"; } pool { allow members of "my-client-name"; range 10.103.1.2 10.103.1.2; } } However, this would require me to administer the IP addresses in two places (Amazon Route53 and the DHCP server), which I would prefer not to do. About security Since this is only used in the bootstrapping phase on an internal network and is then replaced by a static network configuration by Puppet, this shouldn't be an issue from a security standpoint. I am, however, aware that the virtual machine bootstraps with "ubuntu:ubuntu" credentials, which I intend to fix once this is running.

• Do not fetch app.manifest each time

  For creating an offline version of a bunch of linked web pages I use an app.manifest-file that lists all the web pages for offline caching. I would like it that the app.manifest file is not fetched every time when a user jumps from one web page to another. Most of the web pages will never be updated once the application is on the iPhone. Also the target audience is abroad so roaming costs could add up while users are using my "web app". Searching the internet made me think in the direction of forcing an offline mode in Mobile Safari using Javascript but I don't know if this is the right way to go or if it is even possible. Does anyone have any other and/or better ideas and suggestions on how to do this?
