Shopping Cart for Site1 : http://www.Site1.com/shop/cart Shopping Cart for Site2 : http://www.Site2.com/shop/cart We want to develop the Shopping Cart application using Asp.Net MVC 2.0. But it should be reusable in both the above sites.

  • Union,Except and Intersect operator in Linq

    While developing a windows service using Linq-To-SQL i was in need of something that will intersect the two list and return a list with the result. After searching on net i have found three great use full operators in Linq Union,Except and Intersect. Here are explanation of each operator. Union Operator: Union operator will combine elements of both entity and return result as third new entities. Except Operator: Except operator will remove elements of first entities which elements are there in second entities and will return as third new entities. Intersect Operator: As name suggest it will return common elements of both entities and return result as new entities. Let’s take a simple console application as  a example where i have used two string array and applied the three operator one by one and print the result using Console.Writeline.   • What exactly is "Web API" in ASP.Net MVC4?

    I know what a Web API is. I've written API's in multiple languages (including in MVC3). I'm also well practiced in ASP.Net. I just discovered that MVC4 has "Web API" and without going through the video examples I can't find a good explanation of what exactly it IS. From my past experience, Microsoft technologies (especially ASP.Net) have a tendency to take a simple concept and wrap it in a bunch of useless overhead that is meant to make everything "easier". Can someone please explain to me what Web API in MVC4 is exactly? Why do I need it? Why can't I just write my own API?

  • Use-cases for node.js and c#

    I do quite a bit of ASP.NET work (C#, MVC), but most of it is typical web development. I do Restful architecture using CRUD repositories. Most of my clients don't have a lot of advanced requirements within their applications. I'm now looking at node.js and it's performance implications (I'm addicted to speed), but I haven't delved into it all that much. I'm wondering if node.js can realistically replace my typical web development in C# and ASP.NET MVC (not rewriting existing apps, but when working on new ones) node.js can complement an ASP.NET MVC app by adding some async goodness to the existing architecture. Are there use-cases for/against C# and node.js? Edit I love ASP.NET MVC and am super excited with where it's going. Just trying to see if there are special use cases that would favor node.js

  • Was it necessary to build this site in ASP.NET ?

    From what I'm told, the whole StackOverflow/StackExchange 'stack' is based on Microsoft's ASP.NET. SO and the SE sites are probably the most complex that I visit on a regular basis. There's a lot going on in every page - lots of different boxes, pulling data from different places and changing dynamically and responding to user interaction. And the sites work very smoothly, despite the high traffic. My question is, could this have been achieved using a different platform/framework? Does ASP.NET lend itself to more complex projects where other web frameworks would strain and falter? Or is the choice pretty incidental?

    I have an unpaid internship for a very new startup company with little tech experience that's trying to be a Groupon clone. They're currently using Wordpress and I've been trying to decide what web framework to push them towards, since I'll have to learn that language and implement it as well. Is ASP.Net MVC a realistic option for a web based startup company with little financial backing? For example, I know in the Rails hosting is slightly cheaper because of the whole free OS thing and there are free "gems" available to do things like a mailers, but how much more expensive can it get if I go with ASP.Net MVC since such add-ons stop being open source? How much does the cost of hosting for .NET applications add to the equation?

My SqlDataSource returns 1 record with 3 fields, I'd like to Format these into a string. eg: Record Field 'Name' = 'Jack' Field 'Amount' = 100 Field 'Date' = 12.02.2010 asp:Label text should end up being: Welcome Jack, last payment was 100 on 12.02.2010 if another control than asp:Label is appropriate, that would be good to know also.

Do i have to make any changes to server other than installing framework to make it handle all my previous version apps? Do i have to install new IIS or i can use same iis for 3.5? Do i have to install ajax newer version to suport ajax 3.5?

  • ASP.NET MVC Route based on Web Browser/Device (e.g. iPhone)

    Is it possible, from within ASP.NET MVC, to route to different controllers or actions based on the accessing device/browser? I'm thinking of setting up alternative actions and views for some parts of my website in case it is accessed from the iPhone, to optimize display and functionality of it. I don't want to create a completely separate project for the iPhone though as the majority of the site is fine on any device. Any idea on how to do this?

  • MVC on Server 2008 R2 - How?

    I have a new WIndows Server 2008 R2 x64 DataCentre with Framework 3.5 SP1 and Framework 4 installed. When I install my MVC application (VS 2008 MVC 2.0 using a Web Setup project installer) and browse to the application I get an error that System.Web.Mvc cannot be found. If I copy the relevant DLLs (System.Web.Mvc etc)into the bin directory the app runs up perfectly. I have checked everywhere for an installer but can only find the VS2008 related bits, no server runtime. How do I get ASP.Net MVC installed in this environment so that we don't have to Copy Local the dlls? Many thanks Brian

  • Some VS 2010 RC Updates (including patches for Intellisense and Web Designer fixes)

This data has been invaluable in helping us find and fix remaining bugs before we ship the final release. Last month I blogged about a patch we released for the VS 2010 RC that fixed a bad intellisense crash issue.  This past week we released two additional patches that you can download and apply to the VS 2010 RC to immediately fix two other common issues we’ve seen people run into: Patch that fixes crashes with Tooltip invocation and when hovering over identifiers The Visual Studio team recently released a second patch that fixes some crashes we’ve seen when tooltips are displayed – most commonly when hovering over an identifier to view a QuickInfo tooltip. Patch that fixes issues with the Web Forms designer not correctly adding controls to the auto-generated designer files The Visual Web Developer team recently released a patch that fixes issues where web controls are not correctly added to the .designer.cs file associated with the .aspx file – which means they can’t be programmed against in the code-behind file.  This issue is most commonly described as “controls are not being recognized in the code-behind” or “editing existing .aspx files regenerates the .aspx.designer.(vb or cs) file and controls are now missing” or “I can’t embed controls within the Ajax Control Toolkit TabContainer or the <asp:createuserwizard> control”. Common Cause of Intellisense and IDE sluggishness on Windows XP, Vista, Win Server 2003/2008 systems Over the last few months we’ve occasionally seen reports of people seeing tremendous slowness when typing and using intellisense within VS 2010 despite running on decent machines.  It took us awhile to track down the cause – but we have found that the common culprit seems to be that these machines don’t have the latest versions of the UIA (Windows Automation) component installed. UIA 3 ships with Windows 7, and is a recommended Windows Update patch on XP and Vista (which is why we didn’t see the problem in our tests – since our machines are patched with all recommended updates).  Many systems (especially on XP) don’t automatically install recommended updates, though, and are running with older versions of UIA. This can cause significant performance slow-downs within the VS 2010 editor when large lists are displayed (for example: with intellisense). If you are running on Windows XP, Vista, or Windows Server 2003 or 2008 and are seeing any performance issues with the editor or IDE, please install the free UIA 3 update that can be downloaded from this page.  If you scroll down the page you’ll find direct links to versions for each OS. Note that we are making improvements to the final release of VS 2010 so that we don’t have big perf issues when UIA 3 isn’t installed – and we are also adding a message within the IDE that will warn you if you don’t have UIA 3 installed and accessibility is activated. Improved Text Rendering with WPF 4 and VS 2010 We recently made some nice changes to WPF 4 which improve the text clarity and text crispness over what was in the VS 2010/.NET 4 Release Candidate.  In particular these changes improve scenarios where you have a dark background with light text.   • Bind ISet in ASP.NET MVC2

    Hi, I am trying to find out what would be the best bind first element of ISet (Iesi.Collection) as a first element. So basically I only have to use some kind of collection that has an indexer (and ISet doesn't) then I can write code like this (which works perfectly well): <%: Html.EditorFor(x => x.Company.PrimaryUsers[0].Email) %> But as the ISet has no indexer I cannot use it. So how can I then bind the first element of ISet in MVC2? Thanks, Dmitriy.

    My ASP.NET application runs in IIS on my web server and uses Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Beta 2. (Its Application Pool is set to .NET Framework version .NET Framework v4.0.21006.) It gives this new error: A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client... This is due to a breaking change in .NET 4. To revert to the behavior of the ASP.NET 2.0 request validation feature, I added the following setting in the Web.config file: <httpRuntime requestValidationMode="2.0" /> Now Visual Studio 2008 throws a compile-time error: The 'requestValidationMode' attribute is not declared. And I can no longer debug on my development machine using the ASP.NET Development Server that comes with Visual Studio. I need Visual Studio and its ASP.NET Development Server to recognize the new .NET Framework 4 requestValidationMode attribute. How can I debug my application in .NET 4? Must I switch from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2?

    Hi Can anyone please help me with this? I have a Windows 2008 server and MVC 2.0 site is hosted under IIS 7.0 root directory. The site works fine. I want to use the BlogEngine.NET with my site. For example if my mite name is http:// mysite.com (which is the root of IIS) and the blog should be http://mysite.com/blog/Default.aspx Is this possible? Can I create a sub virtual directory within my root (where the MVC 2 app is hosted) and run the ASP.NET BlogEngine.Net in it? Any ideas appreciated.

  • How do I decrease first load time in ASP.net MVC 2?

    I have an ASP.net MVC 2 application that runs well locally. However when I move the files to my production server, I get a first time lag of about 30 seconds, I assume this is a first compile. After that the application works fine. Then after about 20-30 minutes of non use, the applications takes another 30 seconds or so to load. I did try to precompile the code, but there is still a lag during the first load. Are there any trick to getting the application to work faster on the first load? I am using ASP.net 3.5, IIS 6 , visual studio 2010, MVC 2. Thanks
