  • rsync verify a file already exists in dest folder so it will skip the copy on the 1st sync

    I have been looking at different tutorials about rsync about some specific situation I have. I have a home server with all my pics, this server is my backup, my PC is the one that receives the new pics and until now i had been manually copying and pasting new photos from the PC to the server. I was trying to setup rsync to do this automatically and in principle, it does without problem. Now the issue; when I fire up rsync it start copying all the files, even the ones were already in the destination (this is because it is the 1st sync). so my question is: Is it possible for rsync to verify that a file is the same (name/size/bin) so it will skip the copy on the 1st sync?

  • Not seeing Sync Block in Object Layout

    It's my understanding the all .NET object instances begin with an 8 byte 'object header': a synch block (4 byte pointer into a SynchTableEntry table), and a type handle (4 byte pointer into the types method table). I'm not seeing this in VS 2010 RC's (CLR 4.0) debugger memory windows. I'm reading Drill Into .NET Framework Internals to See How the CLR Creates Runtime Objects, and expected the first 4 bytes of my object to be a zeroed synch block pointer, as shown in Figure 8 of that article. Granted, this is an article about CLR 1.1. I'm just wondering if the difference between what I'm seeing and what this early article reports is a change in either the debugger's display of object layout, or in the way the CLR lays out objects in versions later than 1.1. Anyway, can anyone account for my 4 missing bytes?

  • outlook calendar connectivity with java web service

    We currently have a java/jsp online web service that includes it's own custom calendar. I am trying to do some research into the possibility of connecting it to a users outlook. Our basic needs that are most simple is some way to sent the person a meeting request that can be added to their outlook from our service. I know the ideal solution is to sync back and forth but simply being able to import the data from our calendar into someone's outlook would be sufficient. Does anyone have any resources they can point me to that might help with information gathering, or any example/comments?

  • How do I sync two local file structures.

    Hi, I have two large source trees. One of them has some out of date image files. I would like to automatically update all the old image files (png, jpg, gif) in one source tree with the up to date image files in the other source tree. I am using Windows 7 but I have Cygwin installed. I have tried using rsync so far but with no success. I was hoping I could do something like: rsync -r *.png newSourceTree oldSourceTree Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Need to sync two lists with atrribute time, but times aren't equal

    I gonna try to describe my problem the best i can. I have two lists, one with audio frames and other with color frames (not relevant). Both of them have timestamps, they were captured at the same moment but at different instants. So, i have like this: index COLOR AUDIO 0 841 846 1 873 897 2 905 948 3 940 1000 the frames start at high numbers because they were captured and then trimmed to specific parts, but im shot, frame 0 is synced with only 5ms apart(timestamp in ms). On every case i have, the audio frames count is less than the color count. I need to make them have the same count. The stating frames may be coloraudio, color

  • Hyper-V Machine drifts time all over, even with NTP

    Resolved The problem was Hyper-V on that machine. I removed Hyper-V, installed VMware Server, ran the same VM. Time sync issues went away (< 100ms difference after a day). My setup is like this: HYV1 - HyperV machine (non domain) - sync irrelevant AD1 - VM AD server on HYV1, sync'd to time.nist.gov. HyperV time sync off. S1 - Physical machine, sync'd to domain. S2 - Physical machine running HyperV, sync'd to domain. V1 - Linux VM machine on S2, sync'd to AD1. No HyperV integration. AD1 and S1 have fine sync -- stripchart shows less than 100ms difference. S2 drifts like crazy. Edit: To clarify: The VM (AD1) has integration turned off and syncs to time.nist.gov. AD1 is fine. It's the physical machine S1 that can't sync to AD1 and drifts all over. All the other physical servers are able to sync to AD1 just fine. Update So, it appears to be an issue of running the VM. The clock slips slowly with the VM off. Turned on, it immediately starts losing seconds. I swt the VM to only use half the resources, and that seems to have slightly mitigated it, for now. Thanks!

  • Degraded RAID5 and no md superblock on one of remaining drive

    This is actually on a QNAP TS-509 NAS. The RAID is basically a Linux RAID. The NAS was configured with RAID 5 with 5 drives (/md0 with /dev/sd[abcde]3). At some point, /dev/sde failed and drive was replaced. While rebuilding (and not completed), the NAS rebooted itself and /dev/sdc dropped out of the array. Now the array can't start because essentially 2 drives have dropped out. I disconnected /dev/sde and hoped that /md0 can resume in degraded mode, but no luck.. Further investigation shows that /dev/sdc3 has no md superblock. The data should be good since the array was unable to assemble after /dev/sdc dropped off. All the searches I done showed how to reassemble the array assuming 1 bad drive. But I think I just need to restore the superblock on /dev/sdc3 and that should bring the array up to a degraded mode which will allow me to backup data and then proceed with rebuilding with adding /dev/sde.     Android 2.1 (not sure how much that matters) My test hardware is a Motorola Droid (not sure how much that matters either) I want to push a bookmark/internet-shortcut to a user's home screen as a result of them clicking on a link - via their browser of choice. I know they can usually set the bookmark themselves and then choose to put it on their home screen. But I'd like to provide a link like "Put a shortcut to this page on your home screen" that takes care of everything kind of in the background/underneath. Is this even possible? What parts of the framework would I need access to to make it happen?

    JavaScript doesn't allow you to update window.location without triggering a reload. While I agree with this policy in principle (it shouldn't be possible to visit my website and have JavaScript change the location bar to read www.yourbankingsite.com,) I believe that it should be possible to change www.foo.org/index to www.foo.org/help. The only reason I care about this is for bookmarking. I'm working on a photo browser, and when a user is previewing a particular image, I want that image to be the default if they should bookmark that page. For example, if they are viewing foo.org/preview/images0-30 and they click on image #15, that image is expanded to a medium-sized view. If they then bookmark the page, I want the bookmark URL to be foo.org/preview/images0-30/active15. Any thoughts, or is there a security barrier on this one as well? I can certainly understand the same policy being applied here, but one can dream.

  • Can I save my app's state at close time in iPhone OS?

    I have an app that functions much like an ebook. I have a bunch of textual information in various languages that is accessible through a number of drill down methods. When a user wants to get into where they were reading last, they currently have to navigate through the section and chapter menus to get back to where they were. An ideal solution for this would be to setup a bookmark system, which I am considering. But if I remember correctly, when iPhone OS 4 was announced, they seemed to make a big deal of the added ability to save the state of an app. Does that mean that someone using my reader app would be able to just exit right out, do whatever, and then when they came back in, it would be the reading screen just as they left it? I don't know much about how to setup a bookmarking system, I suppose it would be worth investigating, but I would probably want to just hold off for iPhone OS 4 if that is indeed what it will be capable of doing. Any thoughts or insights would be appreciated!!

I tried searching for the cached version in Google. But, looks like the content was deleted long ago and is not listed in the search results directly. There are annotations to the link from many other sites, but still the actual content is not fully available. Now, can anybody help me see this page... I am actually looking for http://effectize.com/become-coolest-programmer :) And, moreover, in addition to bookmarking a favorite link, is it possible to cache the content of the link as well for later reference in case it gets deleted? Im looking for a query, where I get all the books of a certain user including the bookmarks. If no bookmarks are there, there should be a null included... my sql statement looks like: SELECT * FROM `books` LEFT OUTER JOIN `bookmarks ` ON bookmarks.book_id = books.id AND bookmarks.user_id = ? In rails I only know the :include statement, but how can I add the second bookmarks.user_id = ? statement in the ON section of this query? if I put it in the :conditions part, no null results would get returned!   • How could I let Skydrive desktop sync to MicroSD in Windows 8 tablet?

    I have a Samsung Slate 7 tablet with (now) Windows 8 on it. This machine has a 64 Gb SSD and I have a 64 Gb MicroSD card in it. I also have a Skydrive on my main Microsoft ID that contains about 45 Gb of content. With Windows and some development stuff installed, my Skydrive will not fit on the main drive of the tablet. (Besides, my idea was to keep data on the memory card anyway, to make it easier to repave the machine without data loss if need be.) My problem should now be clear: I want to install the Skydrive desktop app to sync my Skydrive to the MicroSD card. This is not possible, as Skydrive does not allow syncing files to removable drives. I have tried a number of things already, but none of them worked: Use the mklink command line tool to create a directory link/junction from a folder name on SSD to a folder on the MicroSD and then try to install Skydrive sync to the SSD link folder. Skydrive however still recognizes this as something it does not want to sync onto. The various different filter drivers mentioned on Agnipulse (including the Hitachi one) that should make windows see some or all of the removable drives in the system as fixed drives do not seem work on (64-bit) Windows 8: they either can't be installed, do nothing and/or cause Windows 8 to go into Automatic Repair mode when rebooting. The Lexar BootIt app seems to be meant to flip the relevant bit in the on-board drive controller of supported USB pen drives, but I tried it anyway. Of course it did nothing to how the MicroSD card was seen. I have now run out of ideas, it seems, and I was wondering if anyone here has a solution to let Windows 8 see the MicroSD memory card in my tablet as a fixed drive instead of removable drive, or some other way of getting the Skydrive desktop to sync my Skydrive data to that MicroSD card. And to be complete: this is not a duplicate question of this or this as those ask about getting USB drives multiple partitions to work on Windows XP. This question is specific about getting desktop Skydrive to sync to MicroSD card in Windows 8, which seems to be a question I have not seen on superuser so far.

We are only using Outlook 2007 as our email client and the sync error appears exactly as so: 9:21:44 Synchronizer Version 12.0.6562 9:21:44 Synchronizing Mailbox '<User>' 9:21:44 Done 9:21:44 Microsoft Exchange offline address book 9:21:44 0X8004010F Now, I have read a number of technet articles on this issue anywhere from adding an A record in the DNS for autodiscover.domain.com to syncing the old OAD to the new OAD. In otherwords, theres lots of thing to try, but trial and error at this point might be hazardous to ther server's health and I am trying to narrow down the list of things to try. What has me thinking that the sync error could be related to the certificate is an event error message that says the following: Microsoft Exchange could not find a certificate that contains the domain name mail.ccufl.org in the personal store on the local computer. Therefore, it is unable to support the STARTTLS SMTP verb for the connector Internet Mail with a FQDN parameter of mail.ccufl.org. If the connector's FQDN is not specified, the computer's FQDN is used. Verify the connector configuration and the installed certificates to make sure that there is a certificate with a domain name for that FQDN. If this certificate exists, run Enable-ExchangeCertificate -Services SMTP to make sure that the Microsoft Exchange Transport service has access to the certificate key. I am not fully clear on how the Exchange Transport Service is related to Syncronization, but my hunch is that it probably not related to there not being a valid certificate. So to recap, would an invalid certificate cause an 0x8004010F sync error?

    In Firefox you can easily save a group of tabs together. When (re-)accessing this group, the 'cascading' bookmark menu shows each individual bookmark (and under a line) it says "open all in tabs" I'm looking for a way to launch those tabs without going up through the bookmark menu. Possible options: A) Record a simple macro w/ any number of "superuser" utilities* ('A' is not the preferred option, since many 'little-macros' are hard to keep track of) b) Use Autohotkey (similar to option 'A' and more flexible once you learn the basics) c) How does Firefox load all those tabs? The info must be stored somewhere (as a type of URL??) Quick Summary: The moment I click on "open all in tabs", I am clicking on something very similar to a hyper-link. How do I find the content (exact code) of that 'hyper-link', and / or "How do I easily launch the tabs?" .. . New EDIT #1: I'm looking for a way to launch those tabs without going up through the bookmark menu, or cluttering the bookmarks toolbar which I hide anyway :o) .. . New EDIT #2: I tried to keep the question simple and not mentioning Autohotkey programming. The objective is to launch all tabs using a button on an AHK gui.   • How to keep multiple servers in sync file wise?

    I'm currently managing a cluster of PHP-FPM servers, all of which tend to get out of sync with each other. The application that I'm using on top of the app servers (Magento) allows for admins to modify various files on the system, but now that the site is in a clustered set up modifying a file only modifies it on a single instance (on one of the app servers) of the various machines in the cluster. Is there an open-source application for Linux that may allow me to keep all of these servers in sync? I have no problem with creating a small VM instance that can listen for changes from machines to sync. In theory, the perfect application would have small clients that run on each machine to be synced, which would talk to the master server which would then decide how/what to sync from each machine. I have already examined the possibilities of running a centralized file server, but unfortunately my app servers are spread out between EC2 and physical machines, which makes this unfeasible. As there are multiple app servers (some of which are dynamically created depending on the load of the site), simply setting up a rsync cron job is not efficient as the cron job would have to be modified on each machine to send files to every other machine in the cluster, and that would just be a whole bunch of unnecessary data transfers/ssh connections.

  • Possible to do cable & wireless syncing with Blackberry Enterprise Server?

    Using Blackberry Enterprise Server, is there a way to sync both wirelessly and via the sync cable? As in, can you make contacts sync via the cable and then the calendar and email sync wirelessly? Additionally, if you can sync contacts locally with the usb cable, can you sync both your regular outlook contact list and a Public Contact list without using a 3rd party application?
