  • Does a child control inherit its parents properties of the same name

    - by Dave Colwell
    Hi all, simple question regarding property value inheritance in UserControls. If i create a UserControl, it has some standard properties like Background, BorderBrush and BorderThickness. Within that UserControl i have a border. I want to know, if i dont specify any set value or binding for the property BorderBrush of that border, will it automatically inherit the value of BorderBrush from the parent control? Thanks!

  • removeClass doesn't work on the second DIV tag

    - by kwokwai
    Hi all, I am learning JQuery and writing a simple data validation for the two fields in a HTML form: <FORM name="addpost" id="addpost" method="post" action="/add"> <TABLE BORDER=0 width="100%"> <TR> <TD>Topic</TD> <TD> <DIV ID="topic"> <INPUT type=text name="topic" id="topic" size="72" maxlength="108"/> </DIV> </TD> </TR> <TR> <TD>Comments</TD> <TD> <DIV ID="topiccontent"> <TEXTAREA rows="12" cols="48" name="content" ID="content"> </TEXTAREA> </DIV> </TD> </TR> <TR> <TD> <INPUT type="submit" value="Send"> </TD> </TR> </TABLE> </FORM> Here is the JQuery script for checking the data input from the form above: $('#addpost').submit(function(){ if($('#topic').val()==""){ $('#topic').addClass('hierror'); return false;} else{$('#topic').removeClass('hierror');} if($('#topiccontent').val()==""){ $('#topiccontent').addClass('hierror'); return false;} else{$('#topiccontent').removeClass('hierror');} }); Here is the CSS for the hierror class: .hierror{border-style:solid; border-width:12px; border-color:#FF0000;} ('#topic').removeClass('hierror') works but ('#topiccontent').removeClass('hierror') doesn't. Could you help me please?

  • IE is doing strange things with JQuery

    - by Syncopated
    So ... The thing is, the code works in FireFox, no problems. But when I open the same page, it gives me the following error: "Undefined is null or not an object." But when I copy the code to a localhost page, it works fine. Also when I clear my cache in IE it works, but only once, if I refresh after that one load, it gives me the same error. Here is the code: <script type="text/javascript" src="datepicker/js/jquery-1.4.2.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> var count3 = 0; var count5 = 0; var count2 = 0; var count4 = 0; $(document).ready(function(){ $('#switch3').click(function(){ $('#switchDiv3').slideToggle(350); if(count3 == 0){ count3 = 1; document.getElementById('switchImage3').src = "images/ArrowDown.png"; return; } else { count3 = 0; document.getElementById('switchImage3').src = "images/ArrowRight.png"; return; } }); ... (this is the code for each item that is generated) </script> And the code that determines the div that should hide: <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center"> <tr> <td width="20" align="center" valign="top" style="padding-right: 3px"> <a style="cursor: pointer;" id="switch3"><img width="20" height="20" src="images/ArrowRight.png" id="switchImage3" style="border-style: solid; border-width: 1px; border-color: black;"/></a> </td> <td> <div id="switchDiv3"> <div align="left"> (Contents of the div here) </div> </div> </td> </tr> </table> Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance

  • Detecting HTML5/CSS3 Features using Modernizr

    - by dwahlin
    HTML5, CSS3, and related technologies such as canvas and web sockets bring a lot of useful new features to the table that can take Web applications to the next level. These new technologies allow applications to be built using only HTML, CSS, and JavaScript allowing them to be viewed on a variety of form factors including tablets and phones. Although HTML5 features offer a lot of promise, it’s not realistic to develop applications using the latest technologies without worrying about supporting older browsers in the process. If history has taught us anything it’s that old browsers stick around for years and years which means developers have to deal with backward compatibility issues. This is especially true when deploying applications to the Internet that target the general public. This begs the question, “How do you move forward with HTML5 and CSS3 technologies while gracefully handling unsupported features in older browsers?” Although you can write code by hand to detect different HTML5 and CSS3 features, it’s not always straightforward. For example, to check for canvas support you need to write code similar to the following:   <script> window.onload = function () { if (canvasSupported()) { alert('canvas supported'); } }; function canvasSupported() { var canvas = document.createElement('canvas'); return (canvas.getContext && canvas.getContext('2d')); } </script> If you want to check for local storage support the following check can be made. It’s more involved than it should be due to a bug in older versions of Firefox. <script> window.onload = function () { if (localStorageSupported()) { alert('local storage supported'); } }; function localStorageSupported() { try { return ('localStorage' in window && window['localStorage'] != null); } catch(e) {} return false; } </script> Looking through the previous examples you can see that there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to checking browsers for HTML5 and CSS3 features. It takes a lot of work to test every possible scenario and every version of a given browser. Fortunately, you don’t have to resort to writing custom code to test what HTML5/CSS3 features a given browser supports. By using a script library called Modernizr you can add checks for different HTML5/CSS3 features into your pages with a minimal amount of code on your part. Let’s take a look at some of the key features Modernizr offers.   Getting Started with Modernizr The first time I heard the name “Modernizr” I thought it “modernized” older browsers by added missing functionality. In reality, Modernizr doesn’t actually handle adding missing features or “modernizing” older browsers. The Modernizr website states, “The name Modernizr actually stems from the goal of modernizing our development practices (and ourselves)”. Because it relies on feature detection rather than browser sniffing (a common technique used in the past – that never worked that great), Modernizr definitely provides a more modern way to test features that a browser supports and can even handle loading additional scripts called shims or polyfills that fill in holes that older browsers may have. It’s a great tool to have in your arsenal if you’re a web developer. Modernizr is available at http://modernizr.com. Two different types of scripts are available including a development script and custom production script. To generate a production script, the site provides a custom script generation tool rather than providing a single script that has everything under the sun for HTML5/CSS3 feature detection. Using the script generation tool you can pick the specific test functionality that you need and ignore everything that you don’t need. That way the script is kept as small as possible. An example of the custom script download screen is shown next. Notice that specific CSS3, HTML5, and related feature tests can be selected. Once you’ve downloaded your custom script you can add it into your web page using the standard <script> element and you’re ready to start using Modernizr. <script src="Scripts/Modernizr.js" type="text/javascript"></script>   Modernizr and the HTML Element Once you’ve add a script reference to Modernizr in a page it’ll go to work for you immediately. In fact, by adding the script several different CSS classes will be added to the page’s <html> element at runtime. These classes define what features the browser supports and what features it doesn’t support. Features that aren’t supported get a class name of “no-FeatureName”, for example “no-flexbox”. Features that are supported get a CSS class name based on the feature such as “canvas” or “websockets”. An example of classes added when running a page in Chrome is shown next:   <html class=" js flexbox canvas canvastext webgl no-touch geolocation postmessage websqldatabase indexeddb hashchange history draganddrop websockets rgba hsla multiplebgs backgroundsize borderimage borderradius boxshadow textshadow opacity cssanimations csscolumns cssgradients cssreflections csstransforms csstransforms3d csstransitions fontface generatedcontent video audio localstorage sessionstorage webworkers applicationcache svg inlinesvg smil svgclippaths"> Here’s an example of what the <html> element looks like at runtime with Internet Explorer 9:   <html class=" js no-flexbox canvas canvastext no-webgl no-touch geolocation postmessage no-websqldatabase no-indexeddb hashchange no-history draganddrop no-websockets rgba hsla multiplebgs backgroundsize no-borderimage borderradius boxshadow no-textshadow opacity no-cssanimations no-csscolumns no-cssgradients no-cssreflections csstransforms no-csstransforms3d no-csstransitions fontface generatedcontent video audio localstorage sessionstorage no-webworkers no-applicationcache svg inlinesvg smil svgclippaths">   When using Modernizr it’s a common practice to define an <html> element in your page with a no-js class added as shown next:   <html class="no-js">   You’ll see starter projects such as HTML5 Boilerplate (http://html5boilerplate.com) or Initializr (http://initializr.com) follow this approach (see my previous post for more information on HTML5 Boilerplate). By adding the no-js class it’s easy to tell if a browser has JavaScript enabled or not. If JavaScript is disabled then no-js will stay on the <html> element. If JavaScript is enabled, no-js will be removed by Modernizr and a js class will be added along with other classes that define supported/unsupported features. Working with HTML5 and CSS3 Features You can use the CSS classes added to the <html> element directly in your CSS files to determine what style properties to use based upon the features supported by a given browser. For example, the following CSS can be used to render a box shadow for browsers that support that feature and a simple border for browsers that don’t support the feature: .boxshadow #MyContainer { border: none; -webkit-box-shadow: #666 1px 1px 1px; -moz-box-shadow: #666 1px 1px 1px; } .no-boxshadow #MyContainer { border: 2px solid black; }   If a browser supports box-shadows the boxshadow CSS class will be added to the <html> element by Modernizr. It can then be associated with a given element. This example associates the boxshadow class with a div with an id of MyContainer. If the browser doesn’t support box shadows then the no-boxshadow class will be added to the <html> element and it can be used to render a standard border around the div. This provides a great way to leverage new CSS3 features in supported browsers while providing a graceful fallback for older browsers. In addition to using the CSS classes that Modernizr provides on the <html> element, you also use a global Modernizr object that’s created. This object exposes different properties that can be used to detect the availability of specific HTML5 or CSS3 features. For example, the following code can be used to detect canvas and local storage support. You can see that the code is much simpler than the code shown at the beginning of this post. It also has the added benefit of being tested by a large community of web developers around the world running a variety of browsers.   $(document).ready(function () { if (Modernizr.canvas) { //Add canvas code } if (Modernizr.localstorage) { //Add local storage code } }); The global Modernizr object can also be used to test for the presence of CSS3 features. The following code shows how to test support for border-radius and CSS transforms:   $(document).ready(function () { if (Modernizr.borderradius) { $('#MyDiv').addClass('borderRadiusStyle'); } if (Modernizr.csstransforms) { $('#MyDiv').addClass('transformsStyle'); } });   Several other CSS3 feature tests can be performed such as support for opacity, rgba, text-shadow, CSS animations, CSS transitions, multiple backgrounds, and more. A complete list of supported HTML5 and CSS3 tests that Modernizr supports can be found at http://www.modernizr.com/docs.   Loading Scripts using Modernizr In cases where a browser doesn’t support a specific feature you can either provide a graceful fallback or load a shim/polyfill script to fill in missing functionality where appropriate (more information about shims/polyfills can be found at https://github.com/Modernizr/Modernizr/wiki/HTML5-Cross-Browser-Polyfills). Modernizr has a built-in script loader that can be used to test for a feature and then load a script if the feature isn’t available. The script loader is built-into Modernizr and is also available as a standalone yepnope script (http://yepnopejs.com). It’s extremely easy to get started using the script loader and it can really simplify the process of loading scripts based on the availability of a particular browser feature. To load scripts dynamically you can use Modernizr’s load() function which accepts properties defining the feature to test (test property), the script to load if the test succeeds (yep property), the script to load if the test fails (nope property), and a script to load regardless of if the test succeeds or fails (both property). An example of using load() with these properties is show next: Modernizr.load({ test: Modernizr.canvas, yep: 'html5CanvasAvailable.js’, nope: 'excanvas.js’, both: 'myCustomScript.js' }); In this example Modernizr is used to not only load scripts but also to test for the presence of the canvas feature. If the target browser supports the HTML5 canvas then the html5CanvasAvailable.js script will be loaded along with the myCustomScript.js script (use of the yep property in this example is a bit contrived – it was added simply to demonstrate how the property can be used in the load() function). Otherwise, a polyfill script named excanvas.js will be loaded to add missing canvas functionality for Internet Explorer versions prior to 9. Once excanvas.js is loaded the myCustomScript.js script will be loaded. Because Modernizr handles loading scripts, you can also use it in creative ways. For example, you can use it to load local scripts when a 3rd party Content Delivery Network (CDN) such as one provided by Google or Microsoft is unavailable for whatever reason. The Modernizr documentation provides the following example that demonstrates the process for providing a local fallback for jQuery when a CDN is down:   Modernizr.load([ { load: '//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.6.4/jquery.js', complete: function () { if (!window.jQuery) { Modernizr.load('js/libs/jquery-1.6.4.min.js'); } } }, { // This will wait for the fallback to load and // execute if it needs to. load: 'needs-jQuery.js' } ]); This code attempts to load jQuery from the Google CDN first. Once the script is downloaded (or if it fails) the function associated with complete will be called. The function checks to make sure that the jQuery object is available and if it’s not Modernizr is used to load a local jQuery script. After all of that occurs a script named needs-jQuery.js will be loaded. Conclusion If you’re building applications that use some of the latest and greatest features available in HTML5 and CSS3 then Modernizr is an essential tool. By using it you can reduce the amount of custom code required to test for browser features and provide graceful fallbacks or even load shim/polyfill scripts for older browsers to help fill in missing functionality.

  • What is the best way to slide a panel in WPF?

    - by Kris Erickson
    I have a fairly simple UserControl that I have made (pardon my Xaml I am just learning WPF) and I want to slide the off the screen. To do so I am animating a translate transform (I also tried making the Panel the child of a canvas and animating the X position with the same results), but the panel moves very jerkily, even on a fairly fast new computer. What is the best way to slide in and out (preferably with KeySplines so that it moves with inertia) without getting the jerkyness. I only have 8 buttons on the panel, so I didn't think it would be too much of a problem. Here is the Xaml I am using, it runs fine in Kaxaml, but it is very jerky and slow (as well as being jerkly and slow when run compiled in a WPF app). <UserControl xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Width="1002" Height="578"> <UserControl.Resources> <Style TargetType="Button"> <Setter Property="Control.Padding" Value="4"/> <Setter Property="Control.Margin" Value="10"/> <Setter Property="Control.Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate TargetType="Button"> <Grid Name="backgroundGrid" Width="210" Height="210" Background="#00FFFFFF"> <Grid.BitmapEffect> <BitmapEffectGroup> <DropShadowBitmapEffect x:Name="buttonDropShadow" ShadowDepth="2"/> <OuterGlowBitmapEffect x:Name="buttonGlow" GlowColor="#A0FEDF00" GlowSize="0"/> </BitmapEffectGroup> </Grid.BitmapEffect> <Border x:Name="background" Margin="1,1,1,1" CornerRadius="15"> <Border.Background> <LinearGradientBrush StartPoint="0,0" EndPoint="0,1"> <LinearGradientBrush.GradientStops> <GradientStop Offset="0" Color="#FF0062B6"/> <GradientStop Offset="1" Color="#FF0089FE"/> </LinearGradientBrush.GradientStops> </LinearGradientBrush> </Border.Background> </Border> <Border Margin="1,1,1,0" BorderBrush="#FF000000" BorderThickness="1.5" CornerRadius="15"/> <ContentPresenter HorizontalAlignment="Center" Margin="{TemplateBinding Control.Padding}" VerticalAlignment="Center" Content="{TemplateBinding ContentControl.Content}" ContentTemplate="{TemplateBinding ContentControl.ContentTemplate}"/> </Grid> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> </UserControl.Resources> <Canvas> <Grid x:Name="Panel1" Height="578" Canvas.Left="0" Canvas.Top="0"> <Grid.RenderTransform> <TransformGroup> <TranslateTransform x:Name="panelTranslate" X="0" Y="0"/> </TransformGroup> </Grid.RenderTransform> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="287"/> <RowDefinition Height="287"/> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition x:Name="Panel1Col1"/> <ColumnDefinition x:Name="Panel1Col2"/> <ColumnDefinition x:Name="Panel1Col3"/> <ColumnDefinition x:Name="Panel1Col4"/> <!-- Set width to 0 to hide a column--> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Button x:Name="Panel1Product1" Grid.Column="0" Grid.Row="0" HorizontalAlignment="Center" VerticalAlignment="Center"> <Button.Triggers> <EventTrigger RoutedEvent="Button.Click" SourceName="Panel1Product1"> <EventTrigger.Actions> <BeginStoryboard> <Storyboard> <DoubleAnimation BeginTime="00:00:00.6" Duration="0:0:3" From="0" Storyboard.TargetName="panelTranslate" Storyboard.TargetProperty="X" To="-1000"/> </Storyboard> </BeginStoryboard> </EventTrigger.Actions> </EventTrigger> </Button.Triggers> </Button> <Button x:Name="Panel1Product2" Grid.Column="0" Grid.Row="1" HorizontalAlignment="Center" VerticalAlignment="Center"/> <Button x:Name="Panel1Product3" Grid.Column="1" Grid.Row="0" HorizontalAlignment="Center" VerticalAlignment="Center"/> <Button x:Name="Panel1Product4" Grid.Column="1" Grid.Row="1" HorizontalAlignment="Center" VerticalAlignment="Center"/> <Button x:Name="Panel1Product5" Grid.Column="2" Grid.Row="0" HorizontalAlignment="Center" VerticalAlignment="Center"/> <Button x:Name="Panel1Product6" Grid.Column="2" Grid.Row="1" HorizontalAlignment="Center" VerticalAlignment="Center"/> <Button x:Name="Panel1Product7" Grid.Column="3" Grid.Row="0" HorizontalAlignment="Center" VerticalAlignment="Center"/> <Button x:Name="Panel1Product8" Grid.Column="3" Grid.Row="1" HorizontalAlignment="Center" VerticalAlignment="Center"/> </Grid> </Canvas> </UserControl>

  • simple web parts in asp.net show as blank page

    - by Javaman59
    I am trying to develop web parts in VS 2008/WinXP I created a Web Site project, and added a couple of web parts within the default form in default.aspx <form id="form1" runat="server"> <div> <asp:WebPartManager ID="WebPartManager1" runat="server"> </asp:WebPartManager> <asp:WebPartZone ID="WebPartZone1" runat="server"> </asp:WebPartZone> </div> </form> When I first ran it (in the debugger), a popup told to me enable Windows authentication in IIS (so something is working!). I enabled the Windows authentication, and now when I run it I get a blank screen. Same result if I open it in IE via the url (rather than debugger). • Rails, gmail: howto get plain/text from body

    - by atmorell
    Hello, I am loading am email with IMAP and parsing it with mail. This works very well, however the mail.body.decoded field contains a lot of formatting. How do I dig out the plain/txt body of the email - ignore attachements, formatting etc. It works fine if I try with an email without html. source = imap.uid_fetch(uid, ['RFC822']).first.attr['RFC822'] mail = Mail.new(source) This body content looks like this: Mail::Body:0x7f36ed468270 @epilogue="", @boundary="_004_4C49171DCB8C4540844E69DD39FDD98Ffirm_", @encoding="7bit", @raw_source="--_004_4C49171DCB8C4540844E69DD39FDD98Ffirm_\r\nContent-Type: multipart/alternative;\r\n\tboundary=\"_000_4C49171DCB8C4540844E69DD39FDD98Ffirm_\"\r\n\r\n--_000_4C49171DCB8C4540844E69DD39FDD98Ffirm_\r\nContent-Type: text/plain; charset=\"iso-8859-1\"\r\nContent-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable\r\n\r\ndasdsasda\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nMed venlig hilsen / Med V=E4nlig H=E4lsning / Best Regards\r\r\nAsbj=F8rn Toke Morell. .\r\n+45 7020 0160\r\n+45 2152 0015\r\n[cid:[email protected]]\r\nhttp://www..dk\r\n\r\n\r\n--_000_4C49171DCB8C4540844E69DD39FDD98Ffirm_\r\nContent-Type: text/html; charset=\"iso-8859-1\"\r\nContent-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable\r\n\r\n<html>headheadbody style3D"word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode:=\r\n space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space; ">dasdsasda<br><div apple-co=\r\nntent-edited=3D"true">\r\n<span class=3D"Apple-style-span" style=3D"border-collapse: separate; color:=\r\n rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Helvetica; font-size: medium; font-style: norma=\r\nl; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-=\r\nheight: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: auto; text-indent: 0px; text-transf=\r\norm: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-borde=\r\nr-horizontal-spacing: 0px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 0px; -webkit-te=\r\nxt-decorations-in-effect: none; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; -webkit-tex=\r\nt-stroke-width: 0px; "><span class=3D"Apple-style-span" style=3D"font-famil=\r\ny: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; "><span class=3D"Apple-style-span"=\r\n style=3D"border-collapse: separate; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Helv=\r\netica; font-size: medium; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-we=\r\night: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; orphans: 2; text=\r\n-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-sp=\r\nacing: 0px; -webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 0px; -webkit-border-vertical=\r\n-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: none; -webkit-text-size-=\r\nadjust: auto; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; "><span class=3D"Apple-style-=\r\nspan" style=3D"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; "><div st=\r\nyle=3D"margin-top: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; margin-=\r\nleft: 0cm; font-size: 11pt; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; "><font class=\r\n=3D"Apple-style-span" color=3D"#000080" face=3D"'Times New Roman', serif" s=\r\nize=3D"3"><span class=3D"Apple-style-span" style=3D"font-size: 13px; "><br =\r\nclass=3D"Apple-interchange-newline"><br></span></font></div><div style=3D"m=\r\nargin-top: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; margin-left: 0c=\r\nm; font-size: 11pt; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; "><font class=3D"Appl=\r\ne-style-span" color=3D"#000080" face=3D"'Times New Roman', serif" size=3D"3=\r\n"><span class=3D"Apple-style-span" style=3D"font-size: 13px; "><br></span><=\r\n/font></div><div style=3D"margin-top: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-bottom=\r\n: 0.0001pt; margin-left: 0cm; font-size: 11pt; font-family: Calibri, sans-s=\r\nerif; "><span style=3D"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman', ser=\r\nif; color: navy; ">Med venlig hilsen / Med V=E4nlig H=E4lsning / Best Regar=\r\nds&nbsp;<br>firm<br>Asbj=F8rn Toke Morell...   • Silverlight MEF – Download On Demand

    - by PeterTweed
    Take the Slalom Challenge at www.slalomchallenge.com! A common challenge with building complex applications in Silverlight is the initial download size of the xap file.  MEF enables us to build composable applications that allows us to build complex composite applications.  Wouldn’t it be great if we had a mechanism to spilt out components into different Silverlight applications in separate xap files and download the separate xap file only if needed?   MEF gives us the ability to do this.  This post will cover the basics needed to build such a composite application split between different silerlight applications and download the referenced silverlight application only when needed. Steps: 1.     Create a Silverlight 4 application 2.     Add references to the following assemblies: System.ComponentModel.Composition.dll System.ComponentModel.Composition.Initialization.dll 3.     Add a new Silverlight 4 application called ExternalSilverlightApplication to the solution that was created in step 1.  Ensure the new application is hosted in the web application for the solution and choose to not create a test page for the new application. 4.     Delete the App.xaml and MainPage.xaml files – they aren’t needed. 5.     Add references to the following assemblies in the ExternalSilverlightApplication project: System.ComponentModel.Composition.dll System.ComponentModel.Composition.Initialization.dll 6.     Ensure the two references above have their Copy Local values set to false.  As we will have these two assmblies in the original Silverlight application, we will have no need to include them in the built ExternalSilverlightApplication build. 7.     Add a new user control called LeftControl to the ExternalSilverlightApplication project. 8.     Replace the LayoutRoot Grid with the following xaml:     <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="Beige" Margin="40" >         <Button Content="Left Content" Margin="30"></Button>     </Grid> 9.     Add the following statement to the top of the LeftControl.xaml.cs file using System.ComponentModel.Composition; 10.   Add the following attribute to the LeftControl class     [Export(typeof(LeftControl))]   This attribute tells MEF that the type LeftControl will be exported – i.e. made available for other applications to import and compose into the application. 11.   Add a new user control called RightControl to the ExternalSilverlightApplication project. 12.   Replace the LayoutRoot Grid with the following xaml:     <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="Green" Margin="40"  >         <TextBlock Margin="40" Foreground="White" Text="Right Control" FontSize="16" VerticalAlignment="Center" HorizontalAlignment="Center" ></TextBlock>     </Grid> 13.   Add the following statement to the top of the RightControl.xaml.cs file using System.ComponentModel.Composition; 14.   Add the following attribute to the RightControl class     [Export(typeof(RightControl))] 15.   In your original Silverlight project add a reference to the ExternalSilverlightApplication project. 16.   Change the reference to the ExternalSilverlightApplication project to have it’s Copy Local value = false.  This will ensure that the referenced ExternalSilverlightApplication Silverlight application is not included in the original Silverlight application package when it it built.  The ExternalSilverlightApplication Silverlight application therefore has to be downloaded on demand by the original Silverlight application for it’s controls to be used. 1.     In your original Silverlight project add the following xaml to the LayoutRoot Grid in MainPage.xaml:         <Grid.RowDefinitions>             <RowDefinition Height="65*" />             <RowDefinition Height="235*" />         </Grid.RowDefinitions>         <Button Name="LoaderButton" Content="Download External Controls" Click="Button_Click"></Button>         <StackPanel Grid.Row="1" Orientation="Horizontal" HorizontalAlignment="Center" >             <Border Name="LeftContent" Background="Red" BorderBrush="Gray" CornerRadius="20"></Border>             <Border Name="RightContent" Background="Red" BorderBrush="Gray" CornerRadius="20"></Border>         </StackPanel>       The borders will hold the controls that will be downlaoded, imported and composed via MEF when the button is clicked. 2.     Add the following statement to the top of the MainPage.xaml.cs file using System.ComponentModel.Composition; 3.     Add the following properties to the MainPage class:         [Import(typeof(LeftControl))]         public LeftControl LeftUserControl { get; set; }         [Import(typeof(RightControl))]         public RightControl RightUserControl { get; set; }   This defines properties accepting LeftControl and RightControl types.  The attrributes are used to tell MEF the discovered type that should be applied to the property when composition occurs. 17.   Add the following event handler for the button click to the MainPage.xaml.cs file:         private void Button_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)         {                   DeploymentCatalog deploymentCatalog =     new DeploymentCatalog("ExternalSilverlightApplication.xap");                   CompositionHost.Initialize(deploymentCatalog);                   deploymentCatalog.DownloadCompleted += (s, i) =>                 {                     if (i.Error == null)                     {                         CompositionInitializer.SatisfyImports(this);                           LeftContent.Child = LeftUserControl;                         RightContent.Child = RightUserControl;                         LoaderButton.IsEnabled = false;                     }                 };                   deploymentCatalog.DownloadAsync();         } This is where the magic happens!  The deploymentCatalog object is pointed to the ExternalSilverlightApplication.xap file.  It is then associated with the CompositionHost initialization.  As the download will be asynchronous, an eventhandler is created for the DownloadCompleted event.  The deploymentCatalog object is then told to start the asynchronous download. The event handler that executes when the download is completed uses the CompositionInitializer.SatisfyImports() function to tell MEF to satisfy the Imports for the current class.  It is at this point that the LeftUserControl and RightUserControl properties are initialized with composed objects from the downloaded ExternalSilverlightApplication.xap package. 18.   Run the application click the Download External Controls button and see the controls defined in the ExternalSilverlightApplication application loaded into the original Silverlight application. Congratulations!  You have implemented download on demand capabilities for composite applications using the MEF DeploymentCatalog class.  You are now able to segment your applications into separate xap file for deployment.

  • Prevent your Silverlight XAP file from caching in your browser.

    If you work with Silverlight daily then you have run into this problem. Your XAP file has been cached in your browser and you have to empty your browser cache to resolve it. If your using Google Chrome then you typically do the following: Go to Options –> Clear Browsing History –> Empty the Cache and finally click Clear Browsing data. As you can see, this is a lot of unnecessary steps. It is even worse when you have a customer that says, “I can’t see the new features you just implemented!” and you realize it’s a cached xap problem.  I have been struggling with a way to prevent my XAP file from caching inside of a browser for a while now and decided to implement the following solution. If the Visual Studio Debugger is attached then add a unique query string to the source param to force the XAP file to be refreshed. If the Visual Studio Debugger is not attached then add the source param as Visual Studio generates it. This is also in case I forget to remove the above code in my production environment. I want the ASP.NET code to be inline with my .ASPX page. (I do not want a separate code behind .cs page or .vb page attached to the .aspx page.) Below is an example of the hosting code generated when you create a new Silverlight project. As a quick refresher, the hard coded param name = “source” specifies the location of your XAP file.  <form id="form1" runat="server" style="height:100%"> <div id="silverlightControlHost"> <object data="data:application/x-silverlight-2," type="application/x-silverlight-2" width="100%" height="100%"> <param name="source" value="ClientBin/SilverlightApplication2.xap"/> <param name="onError" value="onSilverlightError" /> <param name="background" value="white" /> <param name="minRuntimeVersion" value="4.0.50826.0" /> <param name="autoUpgrade" value="true" /> <a href="http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=149156&v=4.0.50826.0" style="text-decoration:none"> <img src="http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=161376" alt="Get Microsoft Silverlight" style="border-style:none"/> </a> </object><iframe id="_sl_historyFrame" style="visibility:hidden;height:0px;width:0px;border:0px"></iframe></div> </form> We are going to use a little bit of inline ASP.NET to generate the param name = source dynamically to prevent the XAP file from caching. Lets look at the completed solution: <form id="form1" runat="server" style="height:100%"> <div id="silverlightControlHost"> <object data="data:application/x-silverlight-2," type="application/x-silverlight-2" width="100%" height="100%"> <% string strSourceFile = @"ClientBin/SilverlightApplication2.xap"; string param; if (System.Diagnostics.Debugger.IsAttached) //Debugger Attached - Refresh the XAP file. param = "<param name=\"source\" value=\"" + strSourceFile + "?" + DateTime.Now.Ticks + "\" />"; else { //Production Mode param = "<param name=\"source\" value=\"" + strSourceFile + "\" />"; } Response.Write(param); %> <param name="onError" value="onSilverlightError" /> <param name="background" value="white" /> <param name="minRuntimeVersion" value="4.0.50826.0" /> <param name="autoUpgrade" value="true" /> <a href="http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=149156&v=4.0.50826.0" style="text-decoration:none"> <img src="http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=161376" alt="Get Microsoft Silverlight" style="border-style:none"/> </a> </object><iframe id="_sl_historyFrame" style="visibility:hidden;height:0px;width:0px;border:0px"></iframe></div> </form> We add the location to our XAP file to strSourceFile and if the debugger is attached then it will append DateTime.Now.Ticks to the XAP file source and force the browser to download the .XAP. If you view the page source of your Silverlight Application then you can verify it worked properly by looking at the param name = “source” tag as shown below. <param name="source" value="ClientBin/SilverlightApplication2.xap?634299001187160148" /> If the debugger is not attached then it will use the standard source tag as shown below. <param name="source" value="ClientBin/SilverlightApplication2.xap"/> At this point you may be asking, How do I prevent my XAP file from being cached on my production app? Well, you have two easy options: 1) I really don’t recommend this approach but you can force the XAP to be refreshed everytime with the following code snippet.  <param name="source" value="ClientBin/SilverlightApplication2.xap?<%=Guid.NewGuid().ToString() %>"/> NOTE: You could also substitute the “Guid.NewGuid().ToString() for anything that create a random field. (I used DateTime.Now.Ticks earlier). 2) Another solution that I like even better involves checking the XAP Creation Date and appending it to the param name = source. This method was described by Lars Holm Jenson. <% string strSourceFile = @"ClientBin/SilverlightApplication2.xap"; string param; if (System.Diagnostics.Debugger.IsAttached) param = "<param name=\"source\" value=\"" + strSourceFile + "\" />"; else { string xappath = HttpContext.Current.Server.MapPath(@"") + @"\" + strSourceFile; DateTime xapCreationDate = System.IO.File.GetLastWriteTime(xappath); param = "<param name=\"source\" value=\"" + strSourceFile + "?ignore=" + xapCreationDate.ToString() + "\" />"; } Response.Write(param); %> As you can see, this problem has been solved. It will work with all web browsers and stubborn proxy servers that are caching your .XAP. If you enjoyed this article then check out my blog for others like this. • pagination with css

    - by bsandrabr
    Hi I've tried every combination I can think of but I can't get this to work. Can you help? I'm trying to put some css onto my pagination and have read all the examples but they all contain so many backslashes and concatenation that I just dont know how to apply it Here is my pagination code (which works fine) along with my feeble attempt at styling it if ($st > 0) { $st3=$st; print "< Previous Page "; } $f=$st+3; for($i2=$st+1;$i2<=$f;$i2++) { $i3=$i2-3; if ($i3 0) { print "$i3 "; if($i2 % 3 == 0) { print ""; } } } $g=$st+3; for($i=$st+1;$i<=$g;$i++) { print "$i "; if($i % 3 == 0) { print ""; } } $st2=$st+2; print " Next Page "; Here is the css that I took from the website /* CSS Document */ body { background: #2D2D2D; font-family:Verdana, fantasy; font-size:13px; color: white; scrollbar-base-color: black; scrollbar-arrow-color: red; scrollbar-DarkShadow-Color: black; } a:visited,a:active,a:link { color: white;text-decoration: none; } a:hover { color: red;text-decoration: overline underline;background: none; } table,tr,td { font-family:Palatino Linotype; color: #FFFFFF;font-size: 12px; } .button { font-family:Verdana, fantasy; font-size:13; color:#FFFFFF; background-color: red; } input,textarea,dropdown{ font-family:Verdana, fantasy; font-size:13; color: #FFFFFF; background-color: #000000; border: 1px solid; } textarea,.submit input{ font-family:Verdana, fantasy; font-size:13; color:#ffffff; background-color: black; } .table { background-color:#000000; } .table3 { background-color:#000000; } .table td { color: #000000; background-color:#DEDEDE; height:22px; } .table3 td { background-color:#CCCCCC; } td .alt { background-color:#EEEEEE; height:22px; } td .h { background-image:url(tablehgrad.png); background-repeat:repeat-x; font-weight: bold; background-color: #D6D6D6; } .table th { background-image:url(tablehgrad.png); background-repeat:repeat-x; color: #000000; font-weight: bold; background-color: #D6D6D6; } .menu th { font-font-size: 12px; color: silver; background-image:url(th.png); background-repeat:repeat-x; font-weight: bold; background-color: #4B4B4B; } .stats td { font-font-size: 12px; color: white; font-weight: bold; } .menu td { font-size: 12px; text-align: center; color: white; background-image:url(tdover.png); background-repeat:repeat-x; font-weight: bold; background-color: #4B4B4B; } .menu td:hover{ color: white; background-image:url(td.png); div.pagination { padding: 3px; margin: 3px; } div.pagination a { padding: 2px 5px 2px 5px; margin: 2px; border: 1px solid #AAAADD; text-decoration: none; /* no underline */ color: #000099; } div.pagination a:hover, div.pagination a:active { border: 1px solid #000099; color: #000; } div.pagination span.current { padding: 2px 5px 2px 5px; margin: 2px; border: 1px solid #000099; font-weight: bold; background-color: #000099; color: #FFF; } div.pagination span.disabled { padding: 2px 5px 2px 5px; margin: 2px; border: 1px solid #EEE; color: #DDD; } thanks

  • jQuery Form Processing With PHP to MYSQL Database Using $.ajax Request

    - by FrustratedUser
    Question: How can I process a form using jQuery and the $.ajax request so that the data is passed to a script which writes it to a database? Problem: I have a simple email signup form that when processed, adds the email along with the current date to a table in a MySQL database. Processing the form without jQuery works as intended, adding the email and date. With jQuery, the form submits successfully and returns the success message. However, no data is added to the database. Any insight would be greatly appreciated! <!-- PROCESS.PHP --> <?php // DB info $dbhost = '#'; $dbuser = '#'; $dbpass = '#'; $dbname = '#'; // Open connection to db $conn = mysql_connect($dbhost, $dbuser, $dbpass) or die ('Error connecting to mysql'); mysql_select_db($dbname); // Form variables $email = $_POST['email']; $submitted = $_POST['submitted']; // Clean up function cleanData($str) { $str = trim($str); $str = strip_tags($str); $str = strtolower($str); return $str; } $email = cleanData($email); $error = ""; if(isset($submitted)) { if($email == '') { $error .= '<p class="error">Please enter your email address.</p>' . • My PHP login no longer works

    - by Matt Clayton
    This page worked like a charm for years... enter the correspondng user id and password and you would be redirected to your directory. Now suddenly, all attempts to log in - valid or otherwise - result in the page remaining static... no message, no redirect, nothing. Nothing in the code has changed, it just plain doesn't work anymore. Could this be the result of some kind of change on the server side? Yeah, I know it's not super secure, but it was good enough for our purposes. I'm certainly open to better suggestions. I just need it to work... and keep working. Please be gentle! I know almost nothing of programming. Here is the page code: <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8" > <link href="ilium.css" rel="stylesheet" media="screen"> <title>Ilium: Client Login</title> </head> <body bgcolor="#bfbfcc" background="img/loginbg.gif"> <?php /* init vars */ $userExists = false; $userIndex = -1; $authenicated = false; /*********************************************** * edit this to add new users/password * * - add user/pass/directory to the array * * below: must be in same array index to work * ***********************************************/ $user = array('foo', 'bar'); $pass = array('foo', 'bar'); $directory = array('foo', 'bar'); // run user/pass check if data passed if (isset($username) && isset($password)) { // check if user name exists for ($i = 0; $i < count($user); $i++) { if ($user[$i] == $username) { $userExists = true; $userIndex = $i; break; } } // so user exists, now test password if ($userExists) { $message = $message . • CSS Menu loses focus when part of jquery hover()

    I have the following html (viewable at www.communityftw.com) <table width="100%"> <tr> <td style="text-align: left"> <!-- 2008.3.1314.35 --><span id="headerSearch1_sb_form_q_wrapper" class="RadInput_Default" style="white-space:nowrap;"><input value="language..." type="text" size="20" id="headerSearch1_sb_form_q_text" name="headerSearch1_sb_form_q_text" class="riTextBox riEmpty sw_qboxTop" name="q" style="width:140px;" /><input id="headerSearch1_sb_form_q" name="ctl00$headerSearch1$sb_form_q" class="rdfd_" style="visibility:hidden;margin:-18px 0 0 0;width:1px;height:1px;overflow:hidden;border:0;padding:0;" type="text" value="" /><input id="headerSearch1_sb_form_q_ClientState" name="headerSearch1_sb_form_q_ClientState" type="hidden" /></span> <input type="submit" name="ctl00$headerSearch1$sb_form_go" value="" id="headerSearch1_sb_form_go" class="sw_qbtnTop" /> </td> <td style="text-align: left"> <ul id="menu"> <li class="languageContainer"> <div> <a href="#" id="languageField"> <img src="/images/flags/ca.png" alt="Canada" /> Canada (English)</a> </div> <ul id="language"> <li><a href="#" id="A1"> <img src="/images/flags/ca.png" alt="Canada" /> Canada (French)</a> </li> <li><a href="#" id="A2"> <img src="/images/flags/us.png" alt="United States" /> United States</a> </li> <li><a href="#" id="A3"> <img src="/images/flags/de.png" alt="Germany" /> Germany</a> </li> <li><a href="#" id="A4"> <img src="/images/flags/fr.png" alt="France" /> France</a> </li> <li><a href="#" id="A5"> <img src="/images/flags/ru.png" alt="Russia" /> Russia</a> </li> <li class="last"> <img alt="" src="images/langLocDrop_r4_c1.png" /> </li> </ul> </li> </ul> </td> </tr> </table> Javascript/jquery $('#slide').animate({ top: '-=34' }, 1000); $("#slide").hover(function () { $(this).animate({ top: '+=34' }); }, function () { $(this).animate({ top: '-=34' }); }); menu { margin: 0px; padding: 0px; list-style: none; display: inline-block; float: left; z-index: 1000; } menu a { color: #dc2525; text-decoration: none; } menu li { background: none repeat scroll 0 0; cursor: pointer; float: left; position: relative; } menu li a:hover { color: orange; } menu ul { padding: 0px; margin: 0px; display: block; display: inline; } menu li ul { position: absolute; left: -15px; top: 0px; margin-top: 20px; width: 170px; line-height: 16px; background-image: url(/images/langLocDrop_r2_c1.png); display: none; } menu li:hover ul { display: block; } menu li ul li { display: block; margin: 5px 20px; padding: 5px 0px; border-top: dotted 1px #606060; list-style-type: none; } menu li ul li:first-child { border-top: none; } menu li ul li a { display: block; } menu li ul li a:hover { color: orange; } .languageContainer div { display: inline; padding: 5px; } languageField img { display: inline; vertical-align: middle; } language img { display: inline; } menu .last { background: transparent none repeat scroll 0% 0%; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: none; position: relative; border: none; height: 0px; } What I'm trying to do is have a menu mostly hidden at the top except when you mouse over it, and then have a submenu (just css driven) pop out when you mouse over the language. What is happening though is that when I move onto the language list, and I go past Germany (~50% down the list?), the hover() loses focus and closes the original menu, which closes the language menu. Any idea's what is causing the issue? Any ideas how to fix the issue? I have tried the hoverIntent() plugin as well to no avail.

  • Adventures in MVVM &ndash; ViewModel Location and Creation

    - by Brian Genisio's House Of Bilz
    More Adventures in MVVM In this post, I am going to explore how I prefer to attach ViewModels to my Views.  I have published the code to my ViewModelSupport project on CodePlex in case you'd like to see how it works along with some examples.  Some History My approach to View-First ViewModel creation has evolved over time.  I have constructed ViewModels in code-behind.  I have instantiated ViewModels in the resources sectoin of the view. I have used Prism to resolve ViewModels via Dependency Injection. I have created attached properties that use Dependency Injection containers underneath.  Of all these approaches, I continue to find issues either in composability, blendability or maintainability.  Laurent Bugnion came up with a pretty good approach in MVVM Light Toolkit with his ViewModelLocator, but as John Papa points out, it has maintenance issues.  John paired up with Glen Block to make the ViewModelLocator more generic by using MEF to compose ViewModels.  It is a great approach, but I don’t like baking in specific resolution technologies into the ViewModelSupport project. I bring these people up, not to name drop, but to give them credit for the place I finally landed in my journey to resolve ViewModels.  I have come up with my own version of the ViewModelLocator that is both generic and container agnostic.  The solution is blendable, configurable and simple to use.  Use any resolution mechanism you want: MEF, Unity, Ninject, Activator.Create, Lookup Tables, new, whatever. How to use the locator 1. Create a class to contain your resolution configuration: public class YourViewModelResolver: IViewModelResolver { private YourFavoriteContainer container = new YourFavoriteContainer(); public YourViewModelResolver() { // Configure your container } public object Resolve(string viewModelName) { return container.Resolve(viewModelName); } } Examples of doing this are on CodePlex for MEF, Unity and Activator.CreateInstance. 2. Create your ViewModelLocator with your custom resolver in App.xaml: <VMS:ViewModelLocator x:Key="ViewModelLocator"> <VMS:ViewModelLocator.Resolver> <local:YourViewModelResolver /> </VMS:ViewModelLocator.Resolver> </VMS:ViewModelLocator> 3. Hook up your data context whenever you want a ViewModel (WPF): <Border DataContext="{Binding YourViewModelName, Source={StaticResource ViewModelLocator}}"> This example uses dynamic properties on the ViewModelLocator and passes the name to your resolver to figure out how to compose it. 4. What about Silverlight? Good question.  You can't bind to dynamic properties in Silverlight 4 (crossing my fingers for Silverlight 5), but you CAN use string indexing: <Border DataContext="{Binding [YourViewModelName], Source={StaticResource ViewModelLocator}}"> But, as John Papa points out in his article, there is a silly bug in Silverlight 4 (as of this writing) that will call into the indexer 6 times when it binds.  While this is little more than a nuisance when getting most properties, it can be much more of an issue when you are resolving ViewModels six times.  If this gets in your way, the solution (as pointed out by John), is to use an IndexConverter (instantiated in App.xaml and also included in the project): <Border DataContext="{Binding Source={StaticResource ViewModelLocator}, Converter={StaticResource IndexConverter}, ConverterParameter=YourViewModelName}"> It is a bit uglier than the WPF version (this method will also work in WPF if you prefer), but it is still not all that bad.  Conclusion This approach works really well (I suppose I am a bit biased).  It allows for composability from any mechanisim you choose.  It is blendable (consider serving up different objects in Design Mode if you wish... or different constructors… whatever makes sense to you).  It works in Cider.  It is configurable.  It is flexible.  It is the best way I have found to manage View-First ViewModel hookups.  Thanks to the guys mentioned in this article for getting me to something I love using.  Enjoy.

    I broke down the code I used yesterday, to its absolute bare minimum, and then realized I'm not using HTML 5 at all: <html> <head> <link rel="stylesheet" href="style.css" type="text/css" media="all" /> <script type="text/javascript" src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.6.3/jquery.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8.16/jquery-ui.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="script.js"></script> </head> <body> <div id="logo"> </div> <div id="infobox"> <h2 id="statustext"/> </div> </body> </html> Here's the script.js file referred to above: $(function(){ var banana = $("#logo"); var statustext = $("#statustext"); var defaulttxt = "Drag the banana!"; var dragtxt = "Dragging the banana!"; statustext.text(defaulttxt); banana.draggable({ drag: function(event, ui){ statustext.text(dragtxt); }, stop: function(event, ui){ statustext.text(defaulttxt); } }); }); And here's the stylesheet: body { background:#3B4D61 repeat 0 0; margin:0; padding:0; } h2 { color:#D1D8DF; display:block; font:bold 15px/10px Tahoma, Helvetica, Arial, Sans-Serif; text-align:center; } #infobox { position:absolute; width:300px; bottom:20px; left:50%; margin-left:-150px; padding:0 20px; background:rgba(0,0,0,0.5); -webkit-border-radius:15px; -moz-border-radius:15px; border-radius:15px; z-index:999; } #logo { position:absolute; width:450px; height:150px; top:40%; left: 30%; background:url(bananas.png) no-repeat 0 0; cursor:move; z-index:700; } However, I've replaced the content of the HTML file with a few of the samples from here, without any problem; in other words, if the HTML 5 canvas were to be needed, it could seamlessly be incorporated into my NetBeans Platform application: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Canvas_tutorial/Basic_usage
