• FTP over ssh hangs on "Connection established: Waiting for Welcome Message"

  I have looked far and wide and have not quite found the answer. I am running ubuntu 11.10, openssh, and vsftpd. I am trying to configure my FTP to tunnel over ssh. My ssh connection works just fine and I can create the tunnel to my FTP port. When I go to use Filezilla to connect, it hangs at "Waiting for Welcome Message". I think it is an iptables issue, but I can't seem to figure out what needs to be changed. When I take iptables down, it connects just fine. I don't want to open any more external ports, just my one SSH port, and I can't seem to get it right on the internal port forwarding rule. I always end up opening it to the outside. I would love some help if anyone has any ideas and I hope I have made it clear. Thank you in advance!!

  hello everyone, I'm currently studying computer science at the Institute, and I have some problems with course which is named Algorithms, I've just begun to study it, but I'm already feeling, that I'm going to fail it, my problem is that while understanding different algorithms on graphs I need to keep in my mind a lot of info, and usually I can't do it, I forget some points of the exercise or can't proceed to final result, I'm very desperate about it cause I like programming very much. • Problems in creating click package for native application

  Hello everyone I've tried may times to package a native click application mainly following this tutorial: http://notyetthere.org/?p=316 The procedure works and I'm able to execute the binaries both on phones and desktops. The problems start when I install the click package. The application is launched but the game is not working (the "gamefield" is not loaded). The only error message that is given is that versions of localstorages are not compatible (that is impossbile, because it never changed). I suspect that the problem is related to apparmor but I have no proof of that. • Sharing SCTP connection with multiple threads

  I have an application that needs to run in SCTP environment, I have a question in sharing the connection among multiple threads for packet receiving only, I've tried with the sctp_sendmsg and it worked without even locking the threads (is that been taking care of by the OS, in other words, is it thread safe to do that). I've tested many cases with the send and I can't see them out of sync. Anyway, back to the receiving, is it possible to create multiple threads and send each thread the sctp descriptor to start receiving messages? Do I need a lock here or is it ok without lock? I'm using C in linux.

• Copy and Paste problems in Visual Studio 2010

The use case to reproduce the bug, just using VS2010 for a few minutes and eventually doing Control C and Control V to copy lines of code does not work. • Not getting auto login page on my Hathway internet connection

  I am using firefox browser and my laptop is DELL Inspiron 1545. I am using Hathway internet connection. When i switch on my internet modem and try to use(browse any website), for the first time in a day it will redirect me to Hathway's login(something like "login.hatyway.com/.....") page automatically. It is working fine in windows but not in Ubuntu 11.10. So I go back to windows every time and then login and then i come back to ubuntu to use. Could you please let me know if there is a solution to this problem.

• I can't click on some things and other problems

  I have some issues with my Ubuntu 12.04 . When I open Ubuntu Software Center, the program opens and than just disappears just when it is opened. My Ubuntu 12.04 won't install any updates because of this error in the picture. Worst of all: I can't click on anything except for programs that from Ubuntu: for example I can't browse the internet via Firefox or Chromium... I can't click on folders. I can't click on things in my Thunderbird mail program. But I can click on Update manager for example... It is just clicking that doesn't work, when I try 'clicking' something with using the tab-button and enter I can click on something - in every case. But that's just too annoying to do. Oh sorry guys I had some screenshots that illustrate the problems, but I can't get them off the 'problem pc ubuntu 12.04' about which I am talking... it's so sad

  I noticed that every developer implements a somewhat different flowchart for solving programming problems. By flowchart I mean a defined system of techniques that the developer goes through in a certain sequence, trying to solve the problem at hand. Some examples for techniques: Google "how to..." or "... tutorial". Search the java/msdn/apple/etc API doc for the specific class or method. Search in stack overflow the exact problem with some tags like [iphone]/[java] etc. Take a nap and let the subconscious work. Debug. Draw the algorithm or system. Google the logged error message. Ask a colleague or manager. Ask a new question in stack overflow. From your experience, what is the best flowchart for solving a programming problem?

  So I installed Ubuntu 12.04, I'm very new at this and want to get into the world of Linux but have run into nothing but problems. I have an Acer Aspire 5553g. First off, my keyboard won't work. Second, my computer has more than enough of everything to run Ubuntu smoothly, but everything runs extremely slow. (You move the mouse and it gets there a few seconds later) It's to the point where I can't even use it and I really want to. I'm tired of Microsoft stuff and I've been looking at learning how to use Linux based operating systems for a while.   I just installed Ubuntu 11.04 onto a laptop. There is no list of automatic connections when I click on the internet connection symbol. Enable Wireless was unchecked, so I checked it. However, it continues saying "wireless is disabled." Soft is blocked, and when I tried rfkill unblock wifi it told me that the device was not ready. I tried to counter this with what I found on this thread but nothing worked. I have tried manually entering my Wireless information, but this does not help. Is there a solution?

  I was upgrading from ubuntu 11.10 to ubuntu 12.04 using the alternate cd method. Everything went fine upto installing upgrades, but during the cleanup phase , it asked me to remove obselete packages or not, and to close all open applications. I used Alt+Tab to view open applications, and then it just hanged, I could only move mouse ,entire screen got blank, and I was forced to restart , leaving the upgrade in middle. After restarting my ubuntu 12.04 is working fine , I think ubuntu got upgraded as only cleanup and restarting phases were remaining when I restarted, can there be problems with this ubuntu, or is this fine ?

• Specific website not working on my connection [closed]

  For some reason, the website http://www.woopra.com/ doesn't work well (shows as plain html, no css/images/JS) on my computer and my Android tablet (they both share the same internet connection). It does however, work on my WP 7.5 phone (3G). When I try to set a wifi hotspot and use the tablet it still doesn't work (tried to clean cache). I tried FF, Chrome and IE (multiple versions). What is going on here? I'm clueless! Thanks.

  For years, I’ve been using the “Remote Desktops” mmc plugin to manage servers in our infrastructure.  I’ve upgraded to Windows 8 and Remote Desktops is nowhere to be found!  I search and searched and came across a forum listing saying “Why don’t you just use Remove Desktop Connection Manager?” I downloaded it and started using it and its WAY better than Remote Desktops!  I’m glad they took it out and I discovered this tool.  I wish I had discovered this two years ago!   I have been struggling to get my wireless mini pcmcia card recognised by 12.04. It suddenly stopped, mid session. I have taken it out and replaced with a couple of spares with slightly different serial numbers. One had no joy - 'unauathorised'. The other worked briefly for thunderbird but not firefox, it seemed. The network controller reads like this: 0b:02.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG [Calexico2] Network Connection (rev 05) I have ordered a replacement from ebay, and hope I got the right one - used the the FRU number from the one that stopped working. But I have ALWAYS had no joy with my Thinkpad t43p Bluetooth and Ubuntu ( 12.04, and even 11.04 and 11.10, if I remember rightly). Do you think the Bluetooth problem will solve with a new mini pcmcia? Surely not, as it has never worked, whereas Wireless worked until a couple of weeks ago...

  Yesterday I installed Ubuntu 12.04 because of some previous problems. I had to recover files through Photorec. But it filled my whole disk overnight and didn't even finish. When I turn on my notebook, there's an error The system is runnning in low-graphics mode (don't know if it's somehow connected with it). I need to delete those recup_dir folders, but also I need to finish recovering and get through the error. So I'm absolutely desperate. I hope that I writed it ok. Thanks in advance.

• Connection timed out when connecting to a website (ubuntu only)

  I've been struggling with these problem for months. It happens randomly and it happens on Ubuntu only (12.04). It's about my hosted company website. Some facts: I can ping it I can traceroute it I can dig it I can make a nslookup But whenever I try to open it in Chrome it won't open. I also tried using polipo but got same connection time out issue. I'm connected through a LAN network and I'm experiencing no problem with any other website. Is there a more accurate debugging technique I'm missing other than pinging/tracerouting, etc.?

• MacMini (running Ubuntu 14.04) loses wlan connection when uploading larger files (several 100 mb) via ownCloud

  I installed Ubuntu 14.04 on an old MacMini with the intention of running it as a homeserver. Additionally I installed ownCloud and tried to sync some files both from a laptop running elementaryOS and a desktop running windows 7. Syncing smaller files workes like a charm (4000 files at <10mb each) but when it comes to bigger files (1 GB ubuntu iso e.g.) the upload failes after 20-100mb. I can't ping the server anymore and the server can't ping me. It still shows up in our router as connected though. Disconnecting and reconnecting the wlan connection fixes the issue until the next attempt at syncing. Edit: I also had to install the wlan driver with this manual: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro8-2#Wireless
