• Windows Update not updating

  I've enabled automatic updates but windows cannot update itself automatically, nor updating via Internet Explorer (by visiting http://www.windowsupdate.com/) works. I get this error message in event log: Unable to Connect: Windows is unable to connect to the automatic updates service and therefore cannot download and install updates according to the set schedule. Windows will continue to try to establish a connection. What could be wrong? A malware?

  I'm receiving the following BSOD: I've tried installing the latest driver from nVidia (296.10), but it says "NVIDIA installer cannot continue", "The graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware.": I installed it manually at device manager, but problem still occurs. The problem does not happen in safe mode at all. Note: After restarting the computer when seeing this BSOD, the BIOS welcome screen is full of random black dots spread around: Any solutions? Update: I've tried disabling Aero by following this guide, but that didn't help.

  Hi, I would like to know how to prioritize traffic from various applications. Specifically I want to know if there is a way to give web traffic higher priority over bit torrent traffic. OS : Windows XP Browser : Firefox Bittorrent client : uTorrent Can I somehow shape the traffic such that, when I am browsing, bittorrent traffic gets suppressed (but not completely) and once no web traffic is detected , it is allowed to continue at full speed ?

• Dell Poweredge 2650 RAC Issue

  I just got a second hand Dell Poweredge 2650 and its working fine. I can access the embedded remote access controller via the Racadm.exe tool (Under wine) but the web based version of it (Which I would prefer to use) has an SSL certificate error. I select continue I know there are risks ect and java starts up.   I thought it's possible to run expired Windows in Safe Mode. However, Windows has expired and I'm getting the following message trying to log-in in SF: "This copy of windows must be activated with Microsoft before you can continue. Because activation cannot occur in safe mode, please restart the computer in normal mode to activate windows.". Does every version of XP behave like that? Is there any way around?

• sftp and public keys

  I am trying to sftp into an a server hosted by someone else. To make sure this worked I did the standard sftp [email protected] i was promted with the password and that worked fine. I am setting up a cron script to send a file once a week so have given them our public key which they claim to have added to their authorized_keys file. I now try sftp [email protected] again and I am still prompted for a password, but now the password doesn't work... Connecting to [email protected]... [email protected]'s password: Permission denied, please try again. [email protected]'s password: Permission denied, please try again. [email protected]'s password: Permission denied (publickey,password). Couldn't read packet: Connection reset by peer I did notice however that if I simply pressed enter (no password) it logged me in fine... So here are my questions: Is there a way to check what privatekey/pulbickey pair my sftp connection is using? Is it possible to specify what key pair to use? If all is setup correctly (using correct key pair and added to authorized files) why am I being asked to enter a blank password? Thanks for your help in advance!   RemoteApp sessions lock if idle for 10 minutes, user needs to input password to unlock. My users are running an application from Win2008 Terminal server using RemoteApp. If the application remains idle for 10 minutes it gets "locked" and the user is required to enter username and password to continue using it. This is VERY VERY annoying as the app usually sits idle for bout 20-30 minutes, used for 1 min... repeat.

• Turning down the sound on a switched off user

  If one switches users (i.e. user one switches off, and then another users logs in) and there is sound playing on the first user, that sound will continue to play for the second user. If the second user has admin rights, they can guess what program is causing the sound and then kill it, but that is very clumsy, and far more than what "needs" to be done. When I open the mixer, it just shows that sound is playing. How can I stop it?

Regardless of the setting "When a new tab or window is opened, make it active" setting (Under Preferences Tabs), it becomes the frontmost tab when opened. Is there a way to have all tabs open in the background, like when you Cmd+click? (I'm aware of other alternative solutions, such as Firefox which handles this correctly, or a desktop RSS such as NetNewsWire/Vienna which have an "open links in background" option, but I like Google Reader's interface and wish to continue using it)

• Smss.exe - setting any core affinity breaks rdp on Windows 7 / Windows Server 2012

  I have tried to set core affinity of smss.exe to not run on one critical core on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008r2. It turns out that simply setting the core affinity to anything (even the full mask that smss.exe already has) seems to work but prevents users from rdp'ing into the machine until it is restarted. The users already logged in may continue to use their sessions. This behaviour does not occur on Windows 8/Windows Server 2012. Does anyone know why it is happening?

I only started using lucid recently, and found out about upstart when my script stopped working. The script depends on mysql server, which unlike in older versions, now uses upstart. • OpenSSH does not accept public key?

  I've been trying to solve this for a while, but I'm admittedly quite stumped. I just started up a new server and was setting up OpenSSH to use key-based SSH logins, but I've run into quite a dilemma. All the guides are relatively similar, and I was following them closely (despite having done this once before). I triple checked my work to see if I would notice some obvious screw up - but nothing is apparent. As far as I can tell, I haven't done anything wrong (and I've checked very closely).
