  • Explanation of WCF application life cycle in IIS 6 hosting environment.

    Hi all and thanks for reading, I have a delay issue where my application takes a long time to start up when first called after an determinate period since the last call. The web application is a WCF service and we are talking about a delay of ~18seconds before the actual processing starts. Now, I believe I know how to reduce this delay so that is not my question (it's more a stackoverflow deal anyway) My question is, Can anyone explain to me why is it that despite me disabling worker process shutdown, and worker process recycling the application still 'winds down' after a indeterminate period of time of inactivity? To understand this I need to know more about the innerworkings of WCF services hosted in IIS. I fully expect there to be a straight forward answer to this.   • Mac Joining Active Directory Still Prompts For Authentication

    My Mac is joined to an Active Directory domain. What I expected to see was the same ease of access to file shares and internal websites that Windows computers joined to the domain experience (i.e., no authentication needed; it just uses Windows Integrated Authentication). Instead I am asked for credentials each time I try to access those shares and protected websites (e.g. SharePoint). Is this normal behavior, or is something wrong with my Mac that it prompts me for my username and password for the domain when I access Windows file shares or intranet sites protected by NTLM/Kerberos?   • Issue running 32-bit executable on 64-bit Windows

    I'm using wkhtmltopdf to convert HTML web pages to PDFs. This works perfectly on my 32-bit dev server [unfortunately, I can't ship my machine :-p ].   • Opera 10.5 RAM usage and Google Reader?

    Hi all, Today I upgraded to Opera 10.5 from Google Chrome and I have two really important questions about it. 1) Is it normal for it to use SO MUCH RAM!!!!? Closing tabs doesn't help, but opening new ones add on to the usage. I can have just 4 tabs open and it goes up to the 300MB mark and I only have 1.5GB in my laptop, 596MB of it used by the graphics card so this really unacceptable. Is there a way to fix it? 2) Why does Google Reader feel so slow and unresponsive on it? It lags so bad when I just try scrolling through the page. I know Opera is known for being really smooth while scrolling through pages. There's also a white bar at the bottom of the page that I can get rid of. It blocks the "Next" and "Previous" buttons. The test between articles is also sort of intersecting each other and that just looks completely unattractive and that's something i'm not used with any web browser. I realize there's a built-in RSS reader, but it doesn't sync across multiple computers and is very late at updating. Here are my specs: Windows 7 Ultimate (x86), Intel Pentium M 1.86 GHz, 1.5GB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon X600 (64MB dedicated, 596MB shared)

  • wire colors: color vs black vs white (positive vs negative voltage)

    I'm working on building a computer (first time for me). There are several plugs that I need to connect to the motherboard (Power LED, reset switch, etc). Of the two wires, they are either: Color and white (reset switch, power LED, HDD LED) red and black (speaker, power switch) The manual for the motherboard has a nice diagram of where to plug them in, but has them labeled + or -. Which colors are positive, and which are negative?

  • Linux (Ubuntu 12.04) two gateways one nic

    I have Ubuntu 12.04 Server edition Two gateways, both on 192.168.0. network, let's make them 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 I've read you should be able to add second gateway into /etc/network/interfaces, that it will build out all the routing automatically, but I get "duplicate option" error. So if I have one default gateway, let's say 0.1, and a connection comes through from the 0.2 gateway, my understanding is that it still tries to respond through 0.1 gateway. Can we change this behavior?

  • 2 pdfs look same on XP, different on Win7

    I have 2 pdf files. I compared them with WinMerge, BeyondCompare, and even compared their checksums. They are exactly the same to me in every way. If I open them with Adobe Reader in Xp, and compare them with my bare eyes, they look the same. But!!! If I open them with Adobe Reader in Win7, and compare them with my bare eyes, they look very different!(particularly border width). I'm sorry I cannot share the 2 pdf files but I will appreciate it if anyone could come up with any idea!

  • Windows 7 Black Screen On Boot, Seperate Bootable VHD Works Fine

    I have a Window 7 x64 install with a bootable VHD (also Windows 7 x64). I was having problems getting my homeserver to do backups (VSS erred) so I ran check disk and used a tool from MS (cleanc2r.exe) to remove an empty Q drive from the VHD that I believe was a result of installing Office 2010 Beta. (All of this was done on the bootable VHD, not the main install.) Now I can't boot into the main install. It gets past the Starting Windows screen and then goes black. I can still boot into the bootable VHD and everything works fine from there. I have tried to boot the main install in Safe Mode/Safe Mode with Networking/and Safe Mode command prompt and it has the same issue. I ran chkdsk /r on the main install and after doing all the work there was a message about correcting some free space that was marked as allocated and also that it was unable to make an entry into the event log. I tried the startup repair utility and it found no problems. I don't see the setting for restore to last know good configuration so I couldn't do that. I don't recall installing anything new to the main install nor having hooked up any new hardware recently.

Pretty much all the devices I have support gigabit ethernet should I go out an buy some decent network cables (and if so what type) or should I continue using my mix of cat5 cables I've acquired over the years. Does the type of cable really make a difference to my LAN performance??

  • How do I determine whether this email bounce is my fault?

    I use Google Apps to handle email for my personal website, so I have an email address [email protected] through that, and I also have a Gmail account [email protected]. Now, I've been trying to send emails to a particular recipient who shall be known as [email protected]. When I send the email from my Gmail account with the @gmail.com address, it works fine. However, when I send it from my Google Apps account with the @ellipsix.net address, I get a bounce message which includes the following text: Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently: [email protected] Technical details of permanent failure: Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 554 554 mail server permanently rejected message (#5.3.0) (state 17). The bounce message suggests that it is up to the mail administrator of the recipient domain example.com to fix the problem, whatever it is. But I would like to be as sure as possible that nothing needs to be fixed on my end. I already have DKIM signatures enabled for my domain, and I have published an SPF DNS record. Is there something else I should check or do, or can I be confident that it's up to the recipient to fix this issue? Does the "state 17" in the bounce message mean something relevant? I've included my domain name in the question so people who know more than me about this stuff can independently check the relevant DNS records or other information. This other question seems similar, but I've already investigated everything suggested in the answers there (except for contacting Google, which I don't want to do unless I suspect it's their issue to fix).

However, that does NOT match the "key" in this part of the log: matching_key="(?-xism:^\\.(exe|lha|tnef|cab|dll)$)" Furthermore, the .gif extension is nowhere to be found in the /etc/amavisd.conf file (i.e. I'm not blocking emails because they contain .gif images). Am I missing something here? This is strange... and annoying.

  • Email Servers that Abstracts Mailbox Concepts [on hold]

    Lately I've been really interested in doing some very unique things with email most of which rely on a SMTP and POP or IMAP server that gives the administrator an API to create arbitrary methods for email storage, notifications, or delivery. What I'm looking for would be analogous to mod_php and apache where apache handles the delivery protocol and php handles the content creation and storage. I've considered making my own, as those three protocols are quite simple, but I'm always nervous about putting my code public facing especially when it's at that low of a level. So are there any email servers that allow for this much arbitrary control over email delivery, fetching, and receiving.

  • Excel Add-In not loading properly with 64-bit Excel 2013

    I have an Excel Add-In saved to an .xla file in %appdata%\Microsoft\Addins. In the subject version of Excel it is checked on the Add-Ins list. One thing this addin does is create a drop-down menu in ThisWorkbook's Workbook_Open sub. But the menu is not created and there is no Add-Ins tab on the ribbon. No error messages. This works fine in Excel 2010 and 2007 (at least), and worked fine on the 32-bit Excel 2013 that came preinstalled on this system before I nuked it. The really maddening thing is that if I get rid of this addin and open that same .xla file, either by double-clicking or using the Open command in Excel, the menu appears as expected. I get the same behavior if I instead open the source .xls file - it all works. I've also tried saving to a .xlam file instead of .xla, but get the same bad result. Any ideas?

    I am trying to redirect a www.example.com to www.example.org. I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong. I have ensured that mod_rewrite is enabled in httpd.conf with: LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so I further verify this by running: httpd -M and getting rewrite_module (shared) included in the results. But obviously I'm still doing something wrong. Can you spot it?

  • Invalid domains in DNS don't work on mac/*nix like systems

    At work we use domains like abc-01, which work fine on windows. Whilst developing mobile applications we already saw that this doesn't work on both iOS and android which we fixed for a few specific domains (by setting the dns up that abc-01.def.local also works in those) and was assumed to be caused by it being an invalid domain. Now however it's necessary to connect through VPN from a mac and changing all relevant domains is not an option at the moment (far too many of them and would require changing the settings of far too many applications), so I was hoping whether somebody knows a trick or setting to get this to work on mac (or even linux in general).

  • VPN Trunk Between Cisco ASA 5520 and DrayTek Vigor 2930

    I'm a bit of a VPN newbie, so please go easy on me ... I'm trying to use the VPN trunking capabilities of the DrayTek Vigor 2930 firewall to bond two IPSec VPN connections to a Cisco ASA 5520 device and I'm getting myself tied in knots and hope someone here with more knowledge / experience can help. I have a remote site with two ADSL connections and the DrayTek box. The main office site has the Cisco ASA device. I am able to setup a single IPSec connection between the two sites on either of the ADSL connections' public IP addresses, but as soon as I try to use the VPN bonding, nothing works. The VPN tunnels are both still up, but the traffic is getting lost somewhere. I suspect it's due to the ASA not knowing how to route the traffic back over the VPN - one minute, traffic from my remote office's network is coming from public ip address #1, the next it's coming from public address #2 and it doesn't know what to do. Well, that's my newbie impression of what's going wrong, but I don't really know: If this is really what's happening If what I'm trying to do (bond two VPN connections from a single remote network to improve the bandwidth / resiliency) is possible with the kit I've got Could anyone help?

  • Paste a list of dates in format of "mm/dd/yy" to iWork-Numbers

    I have trouble to paste a list of strings in the format of 'mm/dd/yy' into iWork-Numbers. For example, I have a list of strings(text in VIM): 04/01/10 04/03/10 04/13/10 I copy those strings and then paste into my iWork-Numbers worksheet. The result will be: 2004-01-10 2004-03-10 04/13/10 It looks like that Numbers (mac workseet application in iWork) tries to convert the first two digits into year, then the next two into month if less than 12 and last two digits to a day, for the first two rows. For the third(04/13/10), since the middle two digits are 13 and cannot be a month, then this row is pasted as it is (actually it is what I need). Is there any way to paste whatever as they are, without any "smart date conversion"? Do I have to change settings in Numberers or Mac OS's System preference?

  • Very poor SCSI hd performance on IBM x336 with LSI 1030 RAID1

    I'm experiencing very poor performance on an IBM x336 server with dual 73GB 15k hard drives on a U320 controller, LSI 1030. We're getting maybe 3.5MB/sec max (per HD Tune utility). It should be over 100MB/sec at least, I would think (another x335 box is running 70-80MB/sec). The server was recently setup and didn't really notice the problem, but may have been there from the beginning, so not sure. I have installed the IBM ServerRAID Windows utility. The server is running Windows 2008 R2 Web edition (if that matters). I thought maybe one of the drives was bad, so far I have removed one of the drives out of the array and tested again, but still the same results. I'm waiting for the RAID1 to resync and I will try pulling the other drive next. I've also used the ServerRAID utility but haven't noticed anything in there that might indicate a problem. Not sure if I'm on the right path here. So looking for some advice to track this down.

  • Instant connection to wireless network but delayed internet access on Mediacom with Windows 7

    I have Mediacom cable internet and their provided modem/wireless router a Cisco DPC3825. Each of the laptops experiencing the trouble have Windows 7 64-bit. When connecting to the wireless network each computer will take a second or two to connect and then toggle from "no internet access" to "internet access" however, no websites are accessible for about five minutes after connecting. After that, there aren't any problems. It happens on all 3 of the laptops I have available and none of them have problems on any other network. It seems like my phone doesn't have the delay issue when it connects. I've power cycled the modem/router along with a DNS flush. I have some of the DNS servers manually set to Google DNS addresses and one just default. I've contacted and had Mediacom support try all its tricks. They changed the SSID and password along with resetting the thing remotely a handful of times. It was installed just this month and seemed to pass the tech's checks upon installation. Nothing in the settings has been changed, but it's been exhibiting this problem from the get go.     I'm trying to deploy an MSI via the Group Policy in Active Directory. But these are the errors I'm getting in the System event log after logging in: The assignment of application XStandard from policy install failed. The error was : %%1274 The removal of the assignment of application XStandard from policy install failed. The error was : %%2 Failed to apply changes to software installation settings. The installation of software deployed through Group Policy for this user has been delayed until the next logon because the changes must be applied before the user logon. The error was : %%1274 The Group Policy Client Side Extension Software Installation was unable to apply one or more settings because the changes must be processed before system startup or user logon. The system will wait for Group Policy processing to finish completely before the next startup or logon for this user, and this may result in slow startup and boot performance. When I reboot and log in again I simply get the same messages about needing to perform the update before the next logon. I'm on a Windows Vista 32-bit laptop. I'm rather new to deploying via group policy so what other information would be helpful in determining the issue? I tried a different MSI with the same results. I'm able to install the MSI using the command line and msiexec when logged into the computer, so I know the MSI is working ok at least.

  • How can I delete virtual networks from command line?

    I have Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 (without GUI) running at my colo for a week. I was connected via RDP and could use the menu interface and command line. I figured out how to connect Hyper-V Manager from my Win7 laptop (THANK YOU HVREMOTE!), and created and installed my VM. I created a virtual network that didn't work (no connectivity from my VM) so I created another using different settings, and now have lost access to the Hyper-V host. No ping, no RDP. Since I don't have console access, I cannot troubleshoot. I believe if I deleted the Virtual Networks I'd regain access, but I need a command line instruction for this, that the staff onsite could enter to accomplish this. I find no help anywhere obvious (MSDN, etc), the keywords are too general. Can anyone refer me to simple steps how to do this over command line or with the menu based interface on the console?

  • Load balancing with rsync

    i have 2 server with public ip: SERVER A - 10.10.10.11 SERVER B - 10.10.10.12 both of them are centos 6 in OS, installed nginx with php-fpm, 2 exact same website stored at: /var/www/html. Domain with: myxdomain.com and dns hosted with cloudflare ( since cloudflare do support round robin ) to point the domain to A record of 10.10.10.11 and 10.10.10.12. I know that round robin dns does not cover the failover or fallover, but it does not matter, what i need is: How do i sync the both content of /var/www/html server A and server B to be exactly same? Lets say: 1) user uploaded their file to server A, the file content will be sync to server B as well. 2) user uploaded their file to server B, the file content will be sync to server A as well. rsync will be good choice here? Any example of command line and cronjob time that suitable? thanks
