• Burn 30GB zip file to DVD

  I have a zip 30GB zip file containing an archive a digital materials available in the school library that I want to burn to dvd. Of course, 30Gb is far too large for a single dvd and the content is already zipped. I'm open to ideas, but leaning towards suggestions that will help me automatically spread the file over multiple dvds, including a simple program to stitch it back together again later.

• External HD makes scraping sound when idle. How to disable it?

  My external hard disk often starts making an irritating scraping sound. It stops if I do something that causes disk activity on it. But then, after 3 minutes or so, it starts again. It's very annoying. Is there a way to disable it? It's a Western Digital WD 10EAVS.

• Technically, How does uploading Apps to an Android Phone Work?

  Amazon.com has an Android Marketplace. How do the apps go from Amazon.com to my phone? I am looking for a protocol level analysis. Do they use a basic protocol like FTP and then check with a Google digital signature? I do not own an Android. I wish for an explanation of how the protocol operates because I want to provide an android app for free download for my users off my website, like Amazon does.

• Is my external hard drive dying?

  I keep getting this error lately when I try to copy large (200+ MB) files over to my external. Following this, the disk becomes unresponsive and I got to unplug it and plug it in again to work. The copy process also is unreasonably slow. It is worth noting that this happens on Windows too, so it's not the notorious "Error -36" bug OS X had prior to 10.6.3. The disk is a Western Digital 3200BMV. Any ideas?

• Convert file from VOC to MP3

  I would like to convert a sound file (from a digital voice recorder) with the extension .voc to an .mp3 file or some other common sound files. I am on Windows 7 64 bit. I have tried the program voc2wav but it gives me an error message saying that the program isn't 64 bit. The program has to be free and able to run without installing. (The voice recorder did come with a program that I could install, but I would like to avoid that).

• Why do firewire drives on Mac OS cause processes to go into uninterruptible wait?

  I have a Western Digital My Passport Studio external hard drive. It works with either Firewire 800 or USB 2.0. I've noticed that when I have it connected to Firewire, after a few hours, processes on my Mac start to go into an uninterruptible wait state. Eventually the system becomes so hard locked that I can't even shut it down. I have Spotlight indexing of the drive disabled, and the mds process seems to be the one that triggers this eventual system collapse.

• Hard drive not being recognised after booting into Windows?

  I just got myself an internal Western Digital caviar black 1TB hard drive. I installed it without too much trouble. The SATA's are plugged correctly and the bios is recognizing it, but it doesn't show up in Windows 7. Does anyone have any troubleshooting ideas or tips I can step through to try and make Windows see my new drive?

  My desktop crashed so I am migrated over to a laptop. I have wireless in my home so i am trying to be able to use to laptop in any room without any other connections (wireless printer, wireless mouse, etc) The one issue i have is that my desktop had 2 external hard drives (USB) connected to them and i am trying to figure out the best way to treat these as external drives without having to plug them into the laptop directly. My external hard drive is the Western Digital WDH1U5000N 500GB and my laptop is a Dell D620.

  (I'm using windows-7 and the hard drives are western digital with whatever formatting they came with from the factory) i'm thinking of setting up two different back-ups one through windows and one with the software that came with the drive (because windows gives me a system image but isn't very user-friendly for my files) but will my computer get confused and load them as different letters each time?

  My recent SQL Server Performance Tuning Seminar in Colombo was oversubscribed with total of 35 attendees. I had recently completed another seminar in Hyderabad which was again blazing success. We had 25 attendees to the seminar and had wonderful time together. There is one thing very different between usual class room training and this seminar series. In this seminar series we go 100% demo oriented and real world scenario deep down. We do not talk usual theory talk-talk. The goal of this seminar to give anybody who attends a jump start and deep dive on the performance tuning subject. I will share many different examples and scenarios from my years of experience of performance tuning. The beginning of the second day is always interesting as I take attendees the server as example of the talk, and together we will attempt to identify the bottleneck and see if we can resolve the same. So far I have got excellent feedback on this unique session, where we pick database of the attendees and address the issues. I plan to do the same again in next sessions. • That’s a wrap! Almost, there’s still one last chance to attend a SQL in the City event in 2012

  The communities team are back from the SQL in the City multi-city US Tour and we are delighted to have met so many happy SQL Server professionals and Red Gate customers. We set out to run a series of back-to-back events in order to meet, talk to and delight as many SQL Server and Red Gate enthusiasts as possible in 5 different cities in 11 days. We did it! The attendees had a good time too and 99% of them would attend another SQL in the City event in 2013 – so it seems we left an impression. There were a range of topics on the event agenda, ranging from ‘The Whys & Hows of Continuous Integration’, ‘Database Maintenance Essentials’, ‘Red Gate tools – The Complete Lifecycle’, ‘Automated Deployment: Application And Database Releases Without The Headache’, ‘The Ten Commandments of SQL Server Monitoring’ and many more. • HostGator hosting account and DNS servers

  I have a hosting package on HostGator on domain example.com I also got a VPS server from Digital Ocean and have setup the DNS Details on the server there (A Record pointing on DO server IP with @ as hostname) and have also setup the DNS Servers on my domain DNS Settings which is hosted on HostGator. All seem okay right now... It's been 3-4 hours I think till I made these changes and when I point to example.com I still get on the active hosting package files instead of the server files. Do I need to cancel the hosting package first before I can make this work? EDIT: If I'm in the wrong site please move it to the correct one.
