  • why Floating point exception?

What's the problem? I could I solve this? thank you very much

  • How do I get my laptop's screen brightness settings back?

    - by Mason Wheeler
From when I bought it up until yesterday, my laptop would dim the screen automatically if you let it sit for long enough, and then if you hit a key or moved the mouse, the brightness would jump back to what you had it at. I enjoy that behavior. It works well. Then I booted it up today, and found that now it will dim the screen automatically if you let it sit for long enough, but it doesn't restore the screen brightness. I have to do that manually, every single time, and it's getting really old really fast. It's an Alienware M17 running Windows 7 64-bit, in case that helps.

  • Merging paragraphs in MS Word 2007

    - by Rajneesh Jain
My name is Rajneesh Jain from New Delhi, India. I saw your code on merging and re-formatting paragraphs in MS Word 2007. I am facing problem of text overflow. The code I used is: Sub FixParagraph() ' ' FixParagraph Macro ' ' Dim selectedText As String Dim textLength As Integer selectedText = Selection.Text ' If no text is selected, this prevents this subroutine from typing another ' copy of the character following the cursor into the document If Len(selectedText) <= 1 Then Exit Sub End If ' Replace all carriage returns and line feeds in the selected text with spaces selectedText = Replace(selectedText, vbCr, " ") selectedText = Replace(selectedText, vbLf, " ") ' Get rid of repeated spaces Do textLength = Len(selectedText) selectedText = Replace(selectedText, " ", " ") Loop While textLength <> Len(selectedText) ' Replace the selected text in the document with the modified text Selection.TypeText (selectedText) End Sub

  • Forwarding email in a specific folder only

    - by Ian
I ran across a post on Super User that addressed a question about Outlook email forwarding. One user provided a script to utilize. Sub AutoForwardAllSentItems(Item As Outlook.MailItem) Dim strMsg As String Dim myFwd As Outlook.MailItem Set myFwd = Item.Forward myFwd.Recipients.Add "[email protected]" myFwd.Send Set myFwd = Nothing End Sub This worked good for me, but how would it work if I want to just automatically forward email in a specific folder only? The folder already has email auto directed to it upon receipt. Any ideas?

  • Word Macro: Move Cursor Down a Row

    - by Bryan
I have a macro which I've been using to merge two cells together in a word table, but what I want to do is to get the cursor to move down by one cell, so that I can repeatedly press the shortcut key to repeat the command over and over. The macro code that I have (shamelessy copied and pasted from a web page), is as follows: Sub MergeWithCellToRight() ' ' MergeWithCellToRight Macro ' ' Dim oRng As Range Dim oCell As Cell Set oCell = Selection.Cells(1) If oCell.ColumnIndex = Selection.Rows(1).Cells.Count Then MsgBox "There is no cell to the right?", vbCritical, "Error" Exit Sub End If Set oRng = oCell.Range oRng.MoveEnd wdCell, 1 oRng.Cells.Merge Selection.Collapse wdCollapseStart End Sub I've attempted to add the following line just before the 'End Sub' statement Selection.MoveDown wdCell, 1 but this generates the error, Run-time error '4120' Bad Parameter whenever I execute the macro. Can anyone tell me how to correct this or what I'm doing wrong?

  • Can't use HTTPS with ServerXMLHTTP object

    - by Imraan
I am supporting a Classic ASP application that connects to a payment gateway via HTTPS. Up until recently there have been no issues. A few days ago this broke without the code, IIS config or anything local changing. Its broken on at least 3 separate servers. The last run of Windows Updates was in late November, but bringing the servers' updates up date has not resolved the problem. A code snippet is below. Dim oHttp Dim strResult Set oHttp = CreateObject("MSXML2.ServerXMLHTTP") oHttp.setOption 2, 13056 oHttp.open "POST", SOAP_ENDPOINT, false oHttp.setRequestHeader "Content-Type", "application/soap+xml; charset=utf-8" oHttp.setRequestHeader "SOAPAction", SOAP_NS + "/" & SOAP_FUNCTION oHttp.send SOAP_REQUEST Below is a dump of the error object :- Number: -2147012852 Description: A certificate is required to complete client authentication Message: A certificate is required to complete client authentication I initially posted the question on Stackoverflow (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9212985/cant-use-https-with-serverxmlhttp-object) thinking it was a code issue, but further investigation seems to point to a server issue.

  • SQL update table from another table

    - by LtDan
    Using SQL in Access, trying to "Update" a table, with the user name, from another table. The 3rd line below (SQLnm2...) says error-2465 cant find field '|'. I've tried changing the expression many ways but no success. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Dim SQLnm As String Dim SQLnm2 As String SQLnm2 = SQLnm2 & "', '" & [Employees]![NBK] & "');" SQLnm = " Update tbl_DateTracking SET NBK = " SQLnm = SQLnm & "'" & SQLnm2 & "' WHERE " SQLnm = SQLnm & "CaseId = '" & CaseId & "' AND OCC_Scenario = '" & OCC_Scenario & "';" DoCmd.RunSQL SQLnm

  • SQL UPDATE based on condition

    - by LtDan
We need to update a table with the users id (NBK). The table with NBK also has the user status (0 - 1) and only one user will have 1 at a time. The challenage is to #1 capture the active user #2 update the other table with the user NBK. I hope the code below just has a simple syntex error that I cannot find? Dim nb As String Dim NBK As String nb = [Employees]![NBK] & "' WHERE " nb = nb & " " & [Employees]![Status] = '1' NBK = " Update tbl_DateTracking SET NBK = " NBK = NBK & "'" & nb & "' WHERE " NBK = NBK & "CaseId = '" & CaseId & "' AND OCC_Scenario = '" & OCC_Scenario & "' ;" DoCmd.RunSQL nb DoCmd.RunSQL NBK

  • Excel macro to delete empty rows isn't stopping

    - by RocketGoal
How do I make it stop after a certain amount of rows? I've taken a VBA course and my teacher explained how to delete empty rows. I'm now trying to put this in place but my macro isn't stopping. I thought I had limited it to 200 rows. I'm missing something important. Any pointers much appreciated. Sub RemoveRows() ' Remove rows from last blank cell Dim LastRow As Long Dim ISEmpty As Long 'Count how many records in the list. This is done so that the Do loop has a finish point. LastRow = Range("A200").End(xlUp).Row 'Start at the top of the list Range("A1").Select 'Loop until the end of the list Do While ActiveCell.Row < LastRow 'Assign number of non empty cells in the row ISEmpty = Application.CountA(ActiveCell.EntireRow) 'If ISEmpty = 0 then delete the row, if not move down a cell into the next row If ISEmpty = 0 Then ActiveCell.EntireRow.Delete Else ActiveCell.Offset(1, 0).Select End If Loop End Sub

  • Entity Framework many-to-many using VB.Net Lambda

    - by bgs264
Hello, I'm a newbie to StackOverflow so please be kind ;) I'm using Entity Framework in Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 (.NET framework 4.0 Beta 2). I have created an entity framework .edmx model from my database and I have a handful of many-to-many relationships. A trivial example of my database schema is Roles (ID, Name, Active) Members (ID, DateOfBirth, DateCreated) RoleMembership(RoleID, MemberID) I am now writing the custom role provider (Inheriting System.Configuration.Provider.RoleProvider) and have come to write the implementation of IsUserInRole(username, roleName). The LINQ-to-Entity queries which I wrote, when SQL-Profiled, all produced CROSS JOIN statements when what I want is for them to INNER JOIN. Dim query = From m In dc.Members From r In dc.Roles Where m.ID = 100 And r.Name = "Member" Select m My problem is almost exactly described here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/553918/entity-framework-and-many-to-many-queries-unusable I'm sure that the solution presented there works well, but whilst I studied Java at uni and I can mostly understand C# I cannot understand this Lambda syntax provided and I need to get a similar example in VB. I've looked around the web for the best part of half a day but I'm not closer to my answer. So please can somebody advise how, in VB, I can construct a LINQ statement which would do this equivalent in SQL: SELECT rm.RoleID FROM RoleMembership rm INNER JOIN Roles r ON r.ID = rm.RoleID INNER JOIN Members m ON m.ID = rm.MemberID WHERE r.Name = 'Member' AND m.ID = 101 I would use this query to see if Member 101 is in Role 3. (I appreciate I probably don't need the join to the Members table in SQL but I imagine in LINQ I'd need to bring in the Member object?) UPDATE: I'm a bit closer by using multiple methods: Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load Dim count As Integer Using dc As New CBLModel.CBLEntities Dim persons = dc.Members.Where(AddressOf myTest) count = persons.Count End Using System.Diagnostics.Debugger.Break() End Sub Function myTest(ByVal m As Member) As Boolean Return m.ID = "100" AndAlso m.Roles.Select(AddressOf myRoleTest).Count > 0 End Function Function myRoleTest(ByVal r As Role) As Boolean Return r.Name = "Member" End Function SQL Profiler shows this: SQL:BatchStarting SELECT [Extent1].[ID] AS [ID], ... (all columns from Members snipped for brevity) ... FROM [dbo].[Members] AS [Extent1] RPC:Completed exec sp_executesql N'SELECT [Extent2].[ID] AS [ID], [Extent2].[Name] AS [Name], [Extent2].[Active] AS [Active] FROM [dbo].[RoleMembership] AS [Extent1] INNER JOIN [dbo].[Roles] AS [Extent2] ON [Extent1].[RoleID] = [Extent2].[ID] WHERE [Extent1].[MemberID] = @EntityKeyValue1',N'@EntityKeyValue1 int',@EntityKeyValue1=100 SQL:BatchCompleted SELECT [Extent1].[ID] AS [ID], ... (all columns from Members snipped for brevity) ... FROM [dbo].[Members] AS [Extent1] I'm not certain why it is using sp_execsql for the inner join statement and why it's still running a select to select ALL members though. Thanks. UPDATE 2 I've written it by turning the above "multiple methods" into lambda expressions then all into one query, like this: Dim allIDs As String = String.Empty Using dc As New CBLModel.CBLEntities For Each retM In dc.Members.Where(Function(m As Member) m.ID = 100 AndAlso m.Roles.Select(Function(r As Role) r.Name = "Doctor").Count > 0) allIDs &= retM.ID.ToString & ";" Next End Using But it doesn't seem to work: "Doctor" is not a role that exists, I just put it in there for testing purposes, yet "allIDs" still gets set to "100;" The SQL in SQL Profiler this time looks like this: SELECT [Project1].* FROM ( SELECT [Extent1].*, (SELECT COUNT(1) AS [A1] FROM [dbo].[RoleMembership] AS [Extent2] WHERE [Extent1].[ID] = [Extent2].[MemberID]) AS [C1] FROM [dbo].[Members] AS [Extent1] ) AS [Project1] WHERE (100 = [Project1].[ID]) AND ([Project1].[C1] > 0) For brevity I turned the list of all the columns from the Members table into * As you can see it's just ignoring the "Role" query... :/

So far I have the code: Sub TwoDArrays() Dim Matrix(9, 4) As Variant Dim Matrix2(9, 4) As Variant Dim Matrix3(9, 4) As Variant Dim Matrix4(9, 4) As Variant Matrix(1, 1) = "A" Matrix(1, 2) = "B" Matrix(1, 3) = "C" Matrix(1, 4) = "D" Matrix(2, 1) = "E" Matrix(2, 2) = "F" Matrix(2, 3) = "G" Matrix(2, 4) = "H" Matrix(3, 1) = "I" Matrix(3, 2) = "J" Matrix(3, 3) = "K" Matrix(3, 4) = "L" Matrix(4, 1) = "M" Matrix(4, 2) = "N" Matrix(4, 3) = "O" Matrix(4, 4) = "P" Matrix(5, 1) = "Q" Matrix(5, 2) = "R" Matrix(5, 3) = "S" Matrix(5, 4) = "T" Matrix(6, 1) = "U" Matrix(6, 2) = "V" Matrix(6, 3) = "W" Matrix(6, 4) = "X" Matrix(7, 1) = "Y" Matrix(7, 2) = "Z" Matrix(7, 3) = "0" Matrix(7, 4) = "1" Matrix(8, 1) = "2" Matrix(8, 2) = "3" Matrix(8, 3) = "4" Matrix(8, 4) = "5" Matrix(9, 1) = "6" Matrix(9, 2) = "7" Matrix(9, 3) = "8" Matrix(9, 4) = "9" Matrix2(1, 1) = "A" Matrix2(1, 2) = "B" Matrix2(1, 3) = "C" Matrix2(1, 4) = "D" Matrix2(2, 1) = "E" Matrix2(2, 2) = "F" Matrix2(2, 3) = "G" Matrix2(2, 4) = "H" Matrix2(3, 1) = "I" Matrix2(3, 2) = "J" Matrix2(3, 3) = "K" Matrix2(3, 4) = "L" Matrix2(4, 1) = "M" Matrix2(4, 2) = "N" Matrix2(4, 3) = "O" Matrix2(4, 4) = "P" Matrix2(5, 1) = "Q" Matrix2(5, 2) = "R" Matrix2(5, 3) = "S" Matrix2(5, 4) = "T" Matrix2(6, 1) = "U" Matrix2(6, 2) = "V" Matrix2(6, 3) = "W" Matrix2(6, 4) = "X" Matrix2(7, 1) = "Y" Matrix2(7, 2) = "Z" Matrix2(7, 3) = "0" Matrix2(7, 4) = "1" Matrix2(8, 1) = "2" Matrix2(8, 2) = "3" Matrix2(8, 3) = "4" Matrix2(8, 4) = "5" Matrix2(9, 1) = "6" Matrix2(9, 2) = "7" Matrix2(9, 3) = "8" Matrix2(9, 4) = "9" Matrix3(1, 1) = "A" Matrix3(1, 2) = "B" Matrix3(1, 3) = "C" Matrix3(1, 4) = "D" Matrix3(2, 1) = "E" Matrix3(2, 2) = "F" Matrix3(2, 3) = "G" Matrix3(2, 4) = "H" Matrix3(3, 1) = "I" Matrix3(3, 2) = "J" Matrix3(3, 3) = "K" Matrix3(3, 4) = "L" Matrix3(4, 1) = "M" Matrix3(4, 2) = "N" Matrix3(4, 3) = "O" Matrix3(4, 4) = "P" Matrix3(5, 1) = "Q" Matrix3(5, 2) = "R" Matrix3(5, 3) = "S" Matrix3(5, 4) = "T" Matrix3(6, 1) = "U" Matrix3(6, 2) = "V" Matrix3(6, 3) = "W" Matrix3(6, 4) = "X" Matrix3(7, 1) = "Y" Matrix3(7, 2) = "Z" Matrix3(7, 3) = "0" Matrix3(7, 4) = "1" Matrix3(8, 1) = "2" Matrix3(8, 2) = "3" Matrix3(8, 3) = "4" Matrix3(8, 4) = "5" Matrix3(9, 1) = "6" Matrix3(9, 2) = "7" Matrix3(9, 3) = "8" Matrix3(9, 4) = "9" Matrix4(1, 1) = "A" Matrix4(1, 2) = "B" Matrix4(1, 3) = "C" Matrix4(1, 4) = "D" Matrix4(2, 1) = "E" Matrix4(2, 2) = "F" Matrix4(2, 3) = "G" Matrix4(2, 4) = "H" Matrix4(3, 1) = "I" Matrix4(3, 2) = "J" Matrix4(3, 3) = "K" Matrix4(3, 4) = "L" Matrix4(4, 1) = "M" Matrix4(4, 2) = "N" Matrix4(4, 3) = "O" Matrix4(4, 4) = "P" Matrix4(5, 1) = "Q" Matrix4(5, 2) = "R" Matrix4(5, 3) = "S" Matrix4(5, 4) = "T" Matrix4(6, 1) = "U" Matrix4(6, 2) = "V" Matrix4(6, 3) = "W" Matrix4(6, 4) = "X" Matrix4(7, 1) = "Y" Matrix4(7, 2) = "Z" Matrix4(7, 3) = "0" Matrix4(7, 4) = "1" Matrix4(8, 1) = "2" Matrix4(8, 2) = "3" Matrix4(8, 3) = "4" Matrix4(8, 4) = "5" Matrix4(9, 1) = "6" Matrix4(9, 2) = "7" Matrix4(9, 3) = "8" Matrix4(9, 4) = "9" For i = 1 To 9 For j = 1 To 4 Cells(i, j) = Matrix(i, j) Next j Next i 'For i = 1 To 9 'For j = 1 To 4 ' Range("a1:d1", "a1:a10").Value = Matrix(i, j) 'Application.WorksheetFunction.Transpose (Matrix) 'Next j 'Next i End Sub However, at the top for loop where it does not use the Range function with the cells, I can only do this for cells a1:d9 (a1 to d9) and if I use the second for loop with the range, get the value 9 appearing in every cell from a1 to d9. So is there a way to make it so that I can get the values A-Z and 0-9 in the other cells I specified above? Thank you.

  • How to remove the xmlns:XSI and xmlns:XSD namespaces from the xml output of a webservice in .net fra

    - by Chetan
HI, This is an old question, i have seen some solutions on this forum itself, but am trying to use webservices for the first time so please bear with me on this one. I have a webservice that returns XML in the following format <subs xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" msisdn="965xxxxxx"> <shortcode label="XXXX"> <channels> <channel> <id>442</id> <name>News</name> <billingperiod>7</billingperiod> <billingamount>3</billingamount> <lastbilling>4/14/2010 1:41:11 PM</lastbilling> </channel> <channel> <id>443</id> <name>News2</name> <billingperiod>7</billingperiod> <billingamount>3</billingamount> <lastbilling>4/14/2010 1:41:19 PM</lastbilling> </channel> </channels> </shortcode> </subs> I want the same XMl output without the xmlns:xsd and xmlns:xsi tags. I have tried the following solution that was suggested: Public Function GetSubscription(....) As String Dim namespaces As New XmlSerializerNamespaces namespaces.Add(String.Empty, String.Empty) Dim serializer As New XmlSerializer(SubsDetail.GetType) Dim sw As New System.IO.StringWriter Dim writer As New System.Xml.XmlTextWriter(sw) writer.Formatting = Formatting.None serializer.Serialize(writer, SubsDetail, namespaces) writer.Close() Return sw.toString() The result was that I got an xml in the following format: <string> <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?><subs msisdn="965xxxx"> <shortcode label="XXXX"> <channels> <channel> <id>442</id> <name>News</name> <billingperiod>7</billingperiod> <billingamount>3</billingamount> <lastbilling>4/14/2010 1:41:11 PM</lastbilling> </channel> <channel> <id>443</id> <name>News2</name> <billingperiod>7</billingperiod> <billingamount>3</billingamount> <lastbilling>4/14/2010 1:41:19 PM</lastbilling> </channel> </channels> </shortcode> </subs> </string> Though the format of the xml is correct it is coming as string within the <string> tags. This is really driving me nuts. Can I get the output as xml without the outer string tags?

  • WPF ListView as a DataGrid – Part 2

    - by psheriff
In my last blog post I showed you how to create GridViewColumn objects on the fly from the meta-data in a DataTable. By doing this you can create columns for a ListView at runtime instead of having to pre-define each ListView for each different DataTable. Well, many of us use collections of our classes and it would be nice to be able to do the same thing for our collection classes as well. This blog post will show you one approach for using collection classes as the source of the data for your ListView.  Figure 1: A List of Data using a ListView Load Property NamesYou could use reflection to gather the property names in your class, however there are two things wrong with this approach. First, reflection is too slow, and second you may not want to display all your properties from your class in the ListView. Instead of reflection you could just create your own custom collection class of PropertyHeader objects. Each PropertyHeader object will contain a property name and a header text value at a minimum. You could add a width property if you wanted as well. All you need to do is to create a collection of property header objects where each object represents one column in your ListView. Below is a simple example: PropertyHeaders coll = new PropertyHeaders(); coll.Add(new PropertyHeader("ProductId", "Product ID"));coll.Add(new PropertyHeader("ProductName", "Product Name"));coll.Add(new PropertyHeader("Price", "Price")); Once you have this collection created, you could pass this collection to a method that would create the GridViewColumn objects based on the information in this collection. Below is the full code for the PropertyHeader class. Besides the PropertyName and Header properties, there is a constructor that will allow you to set both properties when the object is created. C#public class PropertyHeader{  public PropertyHeader()  {  }   public PropertyHeader(string propertyName, string headerText)  {    PropertyName = propertyName;    HeaderText = headerText;  }   public string PropertyName { get; set; }  public string HeaderText { get; set; }} VB.NETPublic Class PropertyHeader  Public Sub New()  End Sub   Public Sub New(ByVal propName As String, ByVal header As String)    PropertyName = propName    HeaderText = header  End Sub   Private mPropertyName As String  Private mHeaderText As String   Public Property PropertyName() As String    Get      Return mPropertyName    End Get    Set(ByVal value As String)      mPropertyName = value    End Set  End Property   Public Property HeaderText() As String    Get      Return mHeaderText    End Get    Set(ByVal value As String)      mHeaderText = value    End Set  End PropertyEnd Class You can use a Generic List class to create a collection of PropertyHeader objects as shown in the following code. C#public class PropertyHeaders : List<PropertyHeader>{} VB.NETPublic Class PropertyHeaders  Inherits List(Of PropertyHeader)End Class Create Property Header Objects You need to create a method somewhere that will create and return a collection of PropertyHeader objects that will represent the columns you wish to add to your ListView prior to binding your collection class to that ListView. Below is a sample method called GetProperties that builds a list of PropertyHeader objects with properties and headers for a Product object. C#public PropertyHeaders GetProperties(){  PropertyHeaders coll = new PropertyHeaders();   coll.Add(new PropertyHeader("ProductId", "Product ID"));  coll.Add(new PropertyHeader("ProductName", "Product Name"));  coll.Add(new PropertyHeader("Price", "Price"));   return coll;} VB.NETPublic Function GetProperties() As PropertyHeaders  Dim coll As New PropertyHeaders()   coll.Add(New PropertyHeader("ProductId", "Product ID"))  coll.Add(New PropertyHeader("ProductName", "Product Name"))  coll.Add(New PropertyHeader("Price", "Price"))   Return collEnd Function WPFListViewCommon Class Now that you have a collection of PropertyHeader objects you need a method that will create a GridView and a collection of GridViewColumn objects based on this PropertyHeader collection. Below is a static/Shared method that you might put into a class called WPFListViewCommon. C#public static GridView CreateGridViewColumns(  PropertyHeaders properties){  GridView gv;  GridViewColumn gvc;   // Create the GridView  gv = new GridView();  gv.AllowsColumnReorder = true;   // Create the GridView Columns  foreach (PropertyHeader item in properties)  {    gvc = new GridViewColumn();    gvc.DisplayMemberBinding = new Binding(item.PropertyName);    gvc.Header = item.HeaderText;    gvc.Width = Double.NaN;    gv.Columns.Add(gvc);  }   return gv;} VB.NETPublic Shared Function CreateGridViewColumns( _    ByVal properties As PropertyHeaders) As GridView  Dim gv As GridView  Dim gvc As GridViewColumn   ' Create the GridView  gv = New GridView()  gv.AllowsColumnReorder = True   ' Create the GridView Columns  For Each item As PropertyHeader In properties    gvc = New GridViewColumn()    gvc.DisplayMemberBinding = New Binding(item.PropertyName)    gvc.Header = item.HeaderText    gvc.Width = [Double].NaN    gv.Columns.Add(gvc)  Next   Return gvEnd Function Build the Product Screen To build the window shown in Figure 1, you might write code like the following: C#private void CollectionSample(){  Product prod = new Product();   // Setup the GridView Columns  lstData.View = WPFListViewCommon.CreateGridViewColumns(       prod.GetProperties());  lstData.DataContext = prod.GetProducts();} VB.NETPrivate Sub CollectionSample()  Dim prod As New Product()   ' Setup the GridView Columns  lstData.View = WPFListViewCommon.CreateGridViewColumns( _       prod.GetProperties())  lstData.DataContext = prod.GetProducts()End Sub The Product class contains a method called GetProperties that returns a PropertyHeaders collection. You pass this collection to the WPFListViewCommon’s CreateGridViewColumns method and it will create a GridView for the ListView. When you then feed the DataContext property of the ListView the Product collection the appropriate columns have already been created and data bound. Summary In this blog you learned how to create a ListView that acts like a DataGrid using a collection class. While it does take a little code to do this, it is an alternative to creating each GridViewColumn in XAML. This gives you a lot of flexibility. You could even read in the property names and header text from an XML file for a truly configurable ListView. To have a long life with the battery it has to be separated from the Laptop after each use Developing a Laptop and concern about it's battery life Don't be concerned follow this advice how to deal with your Laptop battery. A fresh power supply of your Laptop can be purchased in a very low charge condition, and must be fully charged before use. A different battery pack needs to be fully charged and fully discharged or cycled as much as five times to condition them into performing at full capacity. And also refer your manual instructions of one's Laptop for charging instructions. Inspiron 15z battery Tips: Unplug battery after use: To have a long life with the battery it has to be separated from the Laptop after each use. Clean battery contacts often: Clean your battery's metal contacts once in a month with a cloth moistened with rubbing alcohol. This prevents the transfer of power out of your battery additional efficient. Turn off the WiFi and Bluetooth, in any other case being used: Usually, we activate our WiFi or Bluetooth for whatever reason and tend to forget to Off it, that could spark a huge relieve your battery, Shut off right after the usage. • .NET Properties - Use Private Set or ReadOnly Property?

    - by tgxiii
In what situation should I use a Private Set on a property versus making it a ReadOnly property? Take into consideration the two very simplistic examples below. First example: Public Class Person Private _name As String Public Property Name As String Get Return _name End Get Private Set(ByVal value As String) _name = value End Set End Property Public Sub WorkOnName() Dim txtInfo As TextInfo = _ Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture.TextInfo Me.Name = txtInfo.ToTitleCase(Me.Name) End Sub End Class // ---------- public class Person { private string _name; public string Name { get { return _name; } private set { _name = value; } } public void WorkOnName() { TextInfo txtInfo = System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture.TextInfo; this.Name = txtInfo.ToTitleCase(this.Name); } } Second example: Public Class AnotherPerson Private _name As String Public ReadOnly Property Name As String Get Return _name End Get End Property Public Sub WorkOnName() Dim txtInfo As TextInfo = _ Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture.TextInfo _name = txtInfo.ToTitleCase(_name) End Sub End Class // --------------- public class AnotherPerson { private string _name; public string Name { get { return _name; } } public void WorkOnName() { TextInfo txtInfo = System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture.TextInfo; _name = txtInfo.ToTitleCase(_name); } } They both yield the same results. Is this a situation where there's no right and wrong, and it's just a matter of preference?

  • About shared (static) Members and its behavior

    - by Allende
I just realized that I can access shared members from instances of classes (probably this is not correct, but compile and run), and also learn/discover that, I can modify shared members, then create a new instance and access the new value of the shared member. My question is, what happens to the shared members, when it comes back to the "default" value (class declaration), how dangerous is it do this ? is it totally bad ? is it valid in some cases ?. If you want to test my point here is the code (console project vb.net) that I used to test shared members, as you can see/compile/run, the shared member "x" of the class "Hello" has default value string "Default", but at runtime it changes it, and after creating a new object of that class, this object has the new value of the shared member. Module Module1 Public Class hello Public Shared x As String = "Default" Public Sub New() End Sub End Class Sub Main() Console.WriteLine("hello.x=" & hello.x) Dim obj As New hello() Console.WriteLine("obj.x=" & obj.x) obj.x = "Default shared memeber, modified in object" Console.WriteLine("obj.x=" & obj.x) hello.x = "Defaul shared member, modified in class" Console.WriteLine("hello.x=" & hello.x) Dim obj2 As New hello() Console.WriteLine("obj2.x=" & obj2.x) Console.ReadLine() End Sub End Module UPDATE: First at all, thanks to everyone, each answer give feedback, I suppose, by respect I should choose one as "the answer", I don't want to be offensive to anyone, so please don't take it so bad if I didn't choose you answer.

  • Font serialization in vb.net

    - by jovany
Hello all, as the title says , I need to serialize my font. I have tried the following approach unfortunately to no avail. This is what I have and what happens; I have a drawing application and certain variables and properties need to be serialized. (So , Xml.Serialization has been used.) Now this has already been done in a huge portion and I've created some other attributes which needed to be serialized and it works. There is one base class and classes such as drawablestar, drawableeclipse ,etc. all inherit from this class. As does my drawabletextboxclass. The base class is Serializable as can be seen in the sample below. It looks like this... Imports System.Xml.Serialization <Serializable()> _ Public MustInherit Class Drawable ' Drawing characteristics. 'Font characteristics <XmlIgnore()> Public FontFamily As String <XmlIgnore()> Public FontSize As Integer <XmlIgnore()> Public FontType As Integer <XmlIgnore()> Public ForeColor As Color <XmlIgnore()> Public FillColor As Color <XmlAttributeAttribute()> Public LineWidth As Integer = 0 <XmlAttributeAttribute()> Public X1 As Integer <XmlAttributeAttribute()> Public Y1 As Integer <XmlAttributeAttribute()> Public X2 As Integer <XmlAttributeAttribute()> Public Y2 As Integer ' attributes for size textbox <XmlAttributeAttribute()> Public widthLabel As Integer <XmlAttributeAttribute()> Public heightLabel As Integer '<XmlTextAttribute()> Public FontFamily As String '<XmlAttributeAttribute()> Public FontSize As Integer 'this should actually not be here.. <XmlAttributeAttribute()> Public s_InsertLabel As String ' Indicates whether we should draw as selected. <XmlIgnore()> Public IsSelected As Boolean = False ' Constructors. Public Sub New() ForeColor = Color.Black FillColor = Color.White 'FontFamily = "Impact" 'FontSize = 12 End Sub Friend WriteOnly Property _Label() As String Set(ByVal Value As String) s_InsertLabel = Value End Set End Property Public Sub New(ByVal fore_color As Color, ByVal fill_color As Color, Optional ByVal line_width As Integer = 0) LineWidth = line_width ForeColor = fore_color FillColor = fill_color ' FontFamily = Font_Family ' FontSize = Font_Size End Sub ' Property procedures to serialize and ' deserialize ForeColor and FillColor. <XmlAttributeAttribute("ForeColor")> _ Public Property ForeColorArgb() As Integer Get Return ForeColor.ToArgb() End Get Set(ByVal Value As Integer) ForeColor = Color.FromArgb(Value) End Set End Property <XmlAttributeAttribute("BackColor")> _ Public Property FillColorArgb() As Integer Get Return FillColor.ToArgb() End Get Set(ByVal Value As Integer) FillColor = Color.FromArgb(Value) End Set End Property 'Property procedures to serialize and 'deserialize Font <XmlAttributeAttribute("InsertLabel")> _ Public Property InsertLabel_() As String Get Return s_InsertLabel End Get Set(ByVal value As String) s_InsertLabel = value End Set End Property <XmlAttributeAttribute("FontSize")> _ Public Property FontSizeGet() As Integer Get Return FontSize End Get Set(ByVal value As Integer) FontSize = value End Set End Property <XmlAttributeAttribute("FontFamily")> _ Public Property FontFamilyGet() As String Get Return FontFamily End Get Set(ByVal value As String) FontFamily = value End Set End Property <XmlAttributeAttribute("FontType")> _ Public Property FontType_() As Integer Get Return FontType End Get Set(ByVal value As Integer) FontType = value End Set End Property #Region "Methods to override" Public MustOverride Sub Draw(ByVal gr As Graphics) ' Return the object's bounding rectangle. Public Overrides Sub NewPoint(ByVal x As Integer, ByVal y As Integer) X2 = x Y2 = y End Sub ' Return True if the object is empty (e.g. a zero-length line). Public Overrides Function IsEmpty() As Boolean Return (X1 = X2) AndAlso (Y1 = Y2) End Function End Class The coordinates ( X1 ,X2,Y1, Y2 ) are needed to draw a circle , rectangle etc. ( in the other classes ).This all works. If I load my saved file it shows me the correct location and correct size of drawn objects. If I open my xml file I can see all values are correctly saved ( including my FontFamily ). Also the color which can be adjusted is saved and then properly displayed when I load a previously saved drawing. Of course because the coordinates work, if I insert a textField ,the location where it is being displayed is correct. However here comes the problem , my fontSize and fontfamily don't work. As you can see I created them in the base class, However this does not work. Is my approach completely off? What can I do ? Before saving img14.imageshack.us/i/beforeos.jpg/ After loading the Font jumps back to Sans serif and size 12. I could really use some help here.. Edit: I've been using the sample from this website http://www.vb-helper.com/howto_net_drawing_framework.html

  • iTextSharp custom paper size

    - by Morron
Hi, I'm using iTextsharp library to create PDF files. I can declare for A4 Landscape paper like this: Dim pdfTable As New PdfPTable(9) pdfTable.WidthPercentage = 100 Dim pdfDoc As New Document(PageSize.A4.Rotate()) I'm wondering how I can set Height of pdfTable or A4 Height manually. Because there's a lot more margin left at the bottom, and I need to put some text at that margin. Right now, I put a line of text at the bottom, the line's got pushed to the new page. Q1: How can I override the height of A4 paper provied by iTextsharp? Q2: How can I create a custom size paper, say Width = 29cm, Height = 22cm? Thank you.

I am attempting to request a page like "http://www.google.com/?q=random" using the webrequest class in vb.net. we are behind a firewall, so we have to authenticate our requests. I have gotten past the authentication part by adding my credentials. But once that works it seems to go into a redirecting loop. Does anyone have an ideas, comments, suggetions why this is? Has anyone else experienced this problem?
