• Installation after boot shows no display

  I just booted 12.04 for installation from USB-stick. But there is a problem with the display. After boot I see a rectangle on the lower left corner of the screen, after a while I see "Ubuntu 12.04 ..." loading from USB-Stick, the Ubuntu-Desktop starts fine, clicking on Ubuntu-Install seems to work ... till identification, then Installation-window closed and ... nothing more happens. So I want to try Installation direct from the Menu at the beginning - before Ubuntu-12.04-loading. Butt I cannot see any menus at that time. I think there is an graphic-problem? How can I get the installation by menus, how would the Installation via Desktop going to work? Bye Matthias

  I was using Ubuntu 13.04 till a few days ago. I had installed Nemo and I guess cinnamon got installed too (I was still using Unity nonetheless). One of the good things about that was the lock screen somehow changed to mimick cinnamon's (with the background as a darkened version of desktop background and date/time displayed), something like this: I have no idea how this happened, but it looked great. It does not seem to work on Ubuntu 13.10. Anyone has any ideas to get a similar lock screen? I just need to display the date/time on one side with the bg as a darkened version of my desktop wallpaper

• Trying to configure DNS on a Godaddy Virtual Dedicated host, Mediatemple Domain Registration

  A client of mine purchased VD hosting with Godaddy and a domain name with Mediatemple. I've never configured DNS from scratch, and I'm finding it very difficult to find any sort of explanation on how to go about it. As of right now, Mediatemple is pointing to the Godaddy's ns1.domaincontrol.com and ns2.domaincontrol.com nameservers. The VD hosting on Godaddy (via their Simple Control Panel) has options to "Add a new domain", which brings you through a wizard of sorts that asks you if the domain has already been registered (yes), what it is (dclowd9901.com for this example), create a system username and password for it (with checkboxes for SSH and FTP access), which level of user can administer it, and whether a mail account should be setup. When complete, it also creates a zone file. In this zone file, the Primary nameserver is ns1.dclowd9901.com; the records are as follow (where 12.23.12.34 is the presumed host): @ A 12.23.12.34 @ NS ns1 @ NS ns2 ns1 A 12.23.12.34 ns2 A 12.23.12.34 @ MX mail www A 12.23.12.34 ftp A 12.23.12.34 ssh A 12.23.12.34 mail A 12.23.12.34 If anyone can shed any light on this for me, explain to me the interactions between the registrar and the host and so on, I'd be very grateful. • Can't replace MDM Display Manager with LightDM!

  Well, I installed MDM, and found it's buggy with my VGA hardware due to the following screen after rebooting: This screen repeats, even if I choose Yes or No As I have access to the console (by pressing ALT+F2) I tried, sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm which gave me the following screen, Even if I choose LightDM nothing happens at the next reboot. The first screen comes back! dpkg -l | grep -i mdm command results me following, ii mdm___________1.0.4-0~webupd8~precise_____Gnome Display Mnager ii mint-mdm-themes__1.0.5-0~webupd8~precise1_____Linux Mint MDM Themes (underscores are spaces) Please help... • Strange display language in gnome shell

  I logged in gnome-shell, and found that the display language is set to some strange asian language (I think) without my prompt. I tried to change the locale settings but found that the default language is English (how?) despite of that strange language.   First of all, I am not sure the title of this question is the most appropriate however this is what I meant to say, There are many ways to extend the life of a laptop battery. One way is by not connecting it to the AC adapter all the time which will overcharge it. I read that in this website. Is there an application which automatically prevents the charging of the battery once it has reached 80% charged? I mean that is such a cool feature. Sometimes people tend to forget to remove the AC adapter and this could diminish the capacity and reduce the life time of the battery. Does the battery indicator in ubuntu display info or pop-up when the battery is almost dead (dead not in the sense of usage time) but rather a degraded battery?

Open the file /etc/X11/default-display-manager with your editor of choice. Make sure you invoke that editor as root, otherwise it won't work. In that file there's a single line: /usr/bin/kdm Change that to /usr/bin/gdm and save the file. Reboot and you're in Gnome. now ,after booting, the log in manager gdm or kdm didn't appear . how can I fix this?

Now there's just a blank screen between the menu and gdm login. How do I coax Ubuntu 11.04 to display the boot activity? Dale E.   My VPS host (rosehosting) sold me a domain name, but I can’t get it to work. They sent me an email with the following (almost a month ago) DNS Servers (unless you ordered your own DNS servers): ns1.rosehosting.com (216.114.78.148) ns2.rosehosting.com (216.114.78.155) Operating System: Ubuntu 9.04 Domain Name: mytestdomainfv.com Host Name: mytestdomainfv.com IP Address: .... Physical Host Name: Vs####.rosehosting.com When I type in the Physical Host Name or the IP from a remote computer I get connected to my VPS. But when i type 'mytestdomainfv.com' the name is never resolved, and it has been a month now. I thought that they would configure it so that it would, but it seems that they haven't. Does anyone know how I can get 'mytestdomainfv.com' to point to my VPS? I looked at some of the other similar questions, but they talk about forwarding GoDaddy domain names - so I'm not sure if it applies - but then again, it might just be my naivete. Any direction will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! p.s mytestdomainfv.com is not the real domain name

• NVIDIA 560 TI driver install ubuntu 14.04 leads to "missing on display" error

  Currently on my Ubuntu 14.04 install, I boot it up install the latest updates and attempt to install the NVIDIA drivers from xorg-edgers while following the top answer on this post Installing Nvidia Drivers It installs 304 for my card and when I check the "glxinfo | grep OpenGL" I have about 8 lines that read Xlib: extension "NV-GLX" missing on display ":0". I did the "sudo apt-get install nvidia-current" to get the latest. I install it but didn't see any errors in the terminal. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here. I'm not a complete beginner with Linux so I can find my way around just fine but I can't find a solution to this issue. Should I have done one of these two instead? sudo apt-get install nvidia-304 sudo apt-get install nvidia-graphics-drivers-304

• Remote Display Config.sh Using SSH

  How often I see people look to VNC, NXMachine, RDP, etc to get a windowing environment on a remote system.  These products are great and I use them too, but there is a fancy feature in SSH to help. ssh –X remoteserver This is a great feature for hooking into headless VirtualBox machines and remote displaying an install wizard. The remote server must have some lines put in the /etc/ssh/sshd_conf file: X11Forwarding yes X11DisplayOffset 10 The second line is optional, but the first is required.  Restart sshd (sudo /etc/init.d/ssh restart). Now I can ssh –X remote server Then run /opt/app/wls10.3.4/wlserver_10.3/common/bin/config.sh to build a new domain. Note: For some reason, the jdk that comes with WebLogic often fails to work on the remote display.  In that case, I modify the config.sh to just use /usr/bin/java (from openjdk-6-jre package).

  I've noticed this in the new version of chrome, and ie9 and 10. Some urls in a photo gallery have a #id tag as they are supposed to display a full view of a picture. Basically, a div in a lower position on the page has that #id that i call via a.com/1.html#id. This has never been an issue until lately, when i noticed a bit of a lag. The issue: The website loads normally, then the view moves to the #id as supposed, but with some lag sometimes, perhaps because of the high resolution of the picture, which is somewhat noticeable. Anyway to avoid this, or make it so the page would move to the correct #id even before fully loaded?

  I want to display a spatial (or the rendering of a spatial/scene) in my HUD interface. I'm really not sure how to go with this. I have search the documentation, but all the queries I search yields no result, and all I could find about images is that one can specify one with the setBackgroundImage method in the builder and setImage from the ImageRenderer class. The latter takes a String or a NiftyImage, but I'm not sure how to create one without loading an image file. Any help to understand this (if even possible) is appreciated. Thanks!

• All video players display black screen.

  I'm working in 10.04 Lucid. All my video players (Movie Player and VLC) and the preview windows in editors (OpenShot and Pitivi) will only display a black screen when playing a video. The sound is fine and the videos work fine on other computers. I have tried multiple formats from varying sources .MOV taken from old ffmpeg projects, .AVI straight from a camera, .MP4 using h.264 from OpenShot on another system, .OGV from a gtk-recordmydesktop session on this very computer. I even get a pure black screen in the viewer when starting a remote session in VNC. This box has a GeForce 8400 GS using the Nvidia drivers in case it may be a card problem or setting.

• FormatDate in Display Item Form Webpart

  I've faced an issue that I wanted to display the date in the format of ('MMMM dd') that is retrieved from a sharepoint list in an arabic site collection. So, after googling this issue, I've found out that a possible solution to my poblem is using the function ddwrt:FormatDateTime that can be used as long as you'll include the following namespace xmlns:ddwrt="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WebParts/v2/DataView/runtime" My purpose was solved by writing this line of code in my xsl code behind for the webpart : ddwrt:FormatDateTime(string(@StartDate),3073,'MMMM dd') but that worked only if the webpart is inserted into an English site . After trying to search but in vain, I started to use my guesses that ended up doing something like that: ddwrt:FormatDateTime(ddwrt:FormatDateTime(string(@StartDate),3073,'dd/MM/yyyy'), 3073, 'MMMM dd') And the cause of the problem was that sharepoint parses the date as 'MM/dd/yyyy' which I think could be related to server regional settings, so I had to force it to parse the date in arabic-Egypt format as 'dd/MM/yyyy' in order to get the correct 'Month Day' format as expected.

• Ubuntu One Preferences does not show usage, name, e-mail, current plan

  Ubuntuone is correctly synchronizing selected files between two computers running Ubuntu 10.10. When I open Ubuntuone Preferences, Account tab, on one computer it does not display the usage, name e-mail or current plan. On the other computer all information is shown correctly. On the Devices tab the 2 computers are not shown. They do show correctly on the other computer. Any ideas on how to fix this problem. I have reinstalled Ubuntuone per this link.

With this project we have decided to use BAM to monitor the processes within our various new applications.Although I have been specialising in BizTalk for around 9 years, this is my first time using BAM so it is an interesting process to be going through.Recently when deploying a solution I was attempting to check the BAM Portal to see that the View that I had created was properly deployed and that the Activity I was populating was being surfaced in the Portal as expected. Initially I was presented with the message "No view to display" in the "My Views" area of the BAM Portal landing page.This was because you need to set the permissions on the views that you want to see from the command line using the bm.exe tool:bm.exe add-account -AccountName:YourServerOrDomain\YourUsername -View:YourViewThis tool can be found in the BAM folder at the BizTalk installation location:C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft BizTalk Server 2010\Tracking
