  • How to generate an ASCII representation of a Unix file hierarchy?

    Hi, all. I'm looking for a quick and dirty way to generate some diagrams of some directories that have almost, but not exactly, the same hierarchy, so I can show them around at a meeting and we can decide which flavor we like best. I'm not interested in the "leaf" nodes, just the directories. The catch: I don't want to mess with X. This is a server system I deal with entirely through SSH. So I'm looking for something that will do ASCII layout, maybe with simple pipes-and-hyphens for lines or something. Does anyone know of such a utility? I'm sure I could write something myself, but it's such a fiddly little sort of project, with handling spacing and layout and such; I'd really like to discover that someone's done it for me. Alas, Google doesn't seem to know of such a thing...or if it does, it's hidden beneath heaps of excellent visual explications of the standard general Unix file hierarchy. Thanks!

    Hi, I am writing a C++ program which needs to create a temporary file for its internal usage. I would like to allow concurrent executions of the program by running multiple proccesses, so the temporary file name needs to be randomized, that way each spawned process will generate a unique temporary file name for its own use. I am using rand() to generate random characters for part of the file name, so i need to initialize the random number generator's seed using srand(). What options are there for passing a good argument to srand() such that two processes will not be initialized with the same seed value? My code needs to work both on Windows and pn Linux TIA.

  • In Windows 7, clicking between file explorer windows does not generate window events. What's up?

    I have a custom made global hook installed and am monitoring for window messages when file explorer windows are clicked on. The funny thing is that they don't generate any window messages! I click between two file explorer windows and nothing. No VM_CREATE, no VM_ACTIVATE. Nothing. Why is this? Spy++ crashes on my machine so I can't use it but my hook is pretty good and should pick everything up. For some reason these windows just don't function like normal windows in that they don't generate the standard window messages when they become active. It seems windows 7 does not see them as normal windows? what's going on?

    I doing message transfer program between multiple clients and server. I want to generate unique message id for every messages. that should be generated by server and return to client. For message transfer I am using hash data structure, Ex: { api => POST, username => sganesh, pass => "pass", message => "hai", time => "current_time", } I want to generate unique id using this hash. I have tried some of the ways, MD5 and freeze but this give unreadable id. I want some meaningful or readable unique id. I have thought we can use micro seconds to differentiate the id but here the problem is multiple clients. In any situation my id should be unique. Can anyone help me out of this problem?   • How can I generate a list of symbols used by a build product from a particular statically linked lib

    Say I have a visual studio project that builds a windows exe or dll from c++ source. The project statically links to several library (.lib) files. I would like to generate the subset of the available functionality in a particular .lib that the project actually links to. A very crude way to achieve this would be to remove the .lib from the linker input list. The error list on the build would then show me all the symbols that could not be found. Is there a better/proper way to generate this list, I'm happy with a solution that can be run as a custom build step in the project or one that runs against a built binary. I've looked at both the linker and dumpbin command line options but have not seen anything appropriate.

    I have enjoyed learning to use OpenGL under the context of games programming, and I have experimented with creating small shapes. I'm wondering if there are any resources or apps that will generate code similar to the following with a simple paint-like interface. glColor3f(1.0, 0.0, 0.0); glBegin(GL_LINE_STRIP); glVertex2f(1, 0); glVertex2f(2, 3); glVertex2f(4, 5); glEnd(); I'm having trouble thinking of the correct dimensions to generate shapes and coming up with the correct co-ordinates.

    SendMail 8.13.8 | CentOS 5.x Hi Guys, I'm using ca-signed TLS certificates on my sendmail server and they are up for renewal soon. Our new CA doesn't like our old CSR so I need to generate a new CSR. Can someone point me to the procedure for doing this (without affecting the production certs that are already in use)? I'm paranoid of overwriting the old TLS certs in the process of generating a CSR. Most of the instructions I've found are for implementing self-signed TLS certs -- which isn't an option for me at this time. I'm thinking it would something like: openssl req -new -nodes -out new-tls.csr -keyout new-tls-private.key But I wasn't sure if I was missing some options there such as the -x509 option... -M

    I would like to generate a random string (or a series of random strings, repetitions allowed) of length between 1 and n characters from some (finite) alphabet. Each string should be equally likely (in other words, the strings should be uniformly distributed). The uniformity requirement means that an algorithm like this doesn't work: alphabet = "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz" len = rand(1, n) s = "" for(i = 0; i < len; ++i) s = s + alphabet[rand(0, 25)] (pseudo code, rand(a, b) returns a integer between a and b, inclusively, each integer equally likely) It doesn't work because shorter lengths are as likely as longer ones, meaning it's more likely to generate a shorter string than a longer one, so the result is not uniform.

I try to generate a List that consists of some textviews followed by one of the fancy dividers explaining the next part of the list and then again some text views. How can this be done?     I have to generate PL-SQL code, with some common code(invariable) and a variable code. I don't want to use any external tools. Some ways that I can think: Can I go and maintain the common code in a template and with markers, where my java code will generate code in the markers and generate a new file. Maintain the common code in static constant String and then generate the whole code in StringBuffer and at last write to file. But, I am not at all satisfied with both the ideas. Can you please suggest any better ways of doing this or the use of any design patterns or anything? Thanks in Advance.

    Given a list of lists like this [[1,2,3],[a,b,c,d],[x,y]] generate all permutations of the flattened list, [1,2,3,a,b,c,d,x,y], such that the elements of each sublist occur in the same order. For example, this one is okay [a,1,b,2,x,y,3,c,d] but this one is not [y,1,2,3,a,b,c,x,d] because y must occur after x, that being how x and y are ordered in the original sublist. I believe the number of such lists is determined by the multinomial coefficient. I.e., if there are k sublists, n_i is the length of the ith sublist, and n is the sum of the n_i's then the number of such permutations is n!/(n_i! * ... * n_k!). The question is how to generate those sublists. Pseudocode is great. An actual implementation in your language of choice is even better!

  • How do I get MSBuild Task to generate XML Documents when building a solution?

    I have a solution with lots of projects. Each project is configured to generate the XML documentation file when building in Debug-Mode (which is default). That works when I build in Visual Studio 2008. In my build script on my integration server I advise MSBuild to build the whole solution, but it won't generate the documentation files. What can I do? I already tried to explicitly give the Debug-Condition to the build process, but it makes no difference. <Target Name="BuilSolution"> <MSBuild Projects="C:\Path\To\MySolution.sln" targets="Build" Properties="SolutionConfigurationPlatforms='Debug|Any CPU'"/> </Target> There seem to be some ideas to solve this problem when building single projects, but I can't afford to do this, so I need a hint for doing it this way.   • How to auto-generate early bound properties for Entity specific (ie Local) Option Set text values?

    After spending a year working with the Microsoft.Xrm.Sdk namespace, I just discovered yesterday the Entity.FormattedValues property contains the text value for Entity specific (ie Local) Option Set texts. The reason I didn't discover it before, is there is no early bound method of getting the value. i.e. entity.new_myOptionSet is of type OptionSetValue which only contains the int value. You have to call entity.FormattedValues["new_myoptionset"] to get the string text value of the OptionSetValue. Therefore, I'd like to get the crmsrvcutil to auto-generate a text property for local option sets. i.e. Along with Entity.new_myOptionSet being generated as it currently does, Entity.new_myOptionSetText would be generated as well. I've looked into the Microsoft.Crm.Services.Utility.ICodeGenerationService, but that looks like it is mostly for specifying what CodeGenerationType something should be... Is there a way supported way using CrmServiceUtil to add these properties, or am I better off writing a custom app that I can run that can generate these properties as a partial class to the auto-generated ones? Edit - Example of the code that I would like to be generated Currently, whenever I need to access the text value of a OptionSetValue, I use this code: var textValue = OptionSetCache.GetText(service, entity, e => e.New_MyOptionSet); The option set cache will use the entity.LogicalName, and the property expression to determine the name of the option set that I'm asking for. It will then query the SDK using the RetrieveAttriubteRequest, to get a list of the option set int and text values, which it then caches so it doesn't have to hit CRM again. It then looks up the int value of the New_MyOptionSet of the entity and cross references it with the cached list, to get the text value of the OptionSet. Instead of doing all of that, I can just do this (assuming that the entity has been retrieved from the server, and not just populated client side): var textValue = entity.FormattedValues["new_myoptionset"]; but the "new_myoptionset" is no longer early bound. I would like the early bound entity classes that gets generated to also generate an extra "Text" property for OptionSetValue properties that calls the above line, so my entity would have this added to it: public string New_MyOptionSetText { return this.GetFormattedAttributeValue("new_myoptionset"); // this is a protected method on the Entity class itself... }
