As I don't trust on my client whether he will pay to me in full or not after the completion of website, i want to use cheaper and efficient technology so that how much he would pay I could got at least few units of % of profit. As i have learnt ASP.NET and when I inquired about the expense in Hosting of my website i got the recommendation to develop my web app using the combination PHP and MYSQL instead the asp.net + ms sql. And the problem is I don't know PHP. should I learn PHP and or work in what i m comfortable with and should try to cover whole deserved money. (as it is my first project so i m also advised that i may got some loss in starting but contrary to this i don't want to go in loss and want to earn appropriate profit)

  • Which hosting will let me execute my own EXE with PHP?

    I have a task that PHP (or any server-side scripting language) isn't practical for. It involves a lot of file I/O, processing, etc. and it will execute a lot faster using the program I made in C instead of PHP. Do any hosts allow you to upload your own EXE files and run them on the server using PHP's exec, shell_exec, etc. functions? Do you need a dedicated server to do this? Also, I don't know if Facebook's PHP HipHop is out yet, but I really don't want to use that.

    I am looking for an e-mail hosting provider that allow e-mail aliases containing wildcards. In more detail: I own my own domain. I want an e-mail hosting provider to manager e-mail for my domain. Now, to help deal with spam, I often give different e-mail addresses to different organisations. These e-mail addresses always start with the same prefix, but then differ. So, for example, I might give out these e-mail addresses: [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] I want to be able to go to the e-mail provider's control panel and set up an e-mail alias like this: [email protected] -- bounce/discard (because this address has been sold to spammers) joe-*@sample.com -- redirect to [email protected] What's I don't want to do is either have to set up every single e-mail address individually (because I make them up whenever I need them), nor do I want to have a general catch-all for any unrecognised address in my domain (because I don't want to be carpet-bombed with spam when a spammer runs a dictionary attack against my domain name.) Although this seems like a useful feature to have, it seems to be a little-known feature and I've not seen anybody advertise this feature. My current hosting provider offer this but I want to move away from them, so I need another provider that will continue to work with all the e-mail addresses I've been using for years. Alternatively, I could use mail server software that runs on Windows - I have seen some commercial packages offering this feature but they cost more than I can afford - are there any suggestions for low-cost software packages?

  • GoDaddy SSL on Shared Hosting

    So I'm very new to using SSL certificates and I have been trying to install one on a site for a client. He is using shared hosting for multiple domains through GoDaddy, and the site we're working on is not the primary domain. He purchased a UCC certificate for multiple domains and I installed it on the shared hosting account. My thought was that since the domains were under the same hosting account, then they would each be protected under the certificate. This was not the case...apparently. I checked both domains with an SSL checker and the primary domain checked out. The domain that we wanted the SSL on showed the following errors: None of the common names in the certificate match the name that was entered (www.CLIENTDOMAIN.com). You may receive an error when accessing this site in a web browser. I'm not sure how to fix this. It was just purchased yesterday, so if necessary, I guess I could un-install it or re-key it (???). Is there a way to just change the common name to www.CLIENTDOMAIN.com (the correct domain)?

  • How do you host multiple public facing websites on a VPS?

    We host about 30 websites using typical shared hosting plans using ASP.NET and SQL 2000/2005/2008. I am now wondering about hosting all of these websites using our own virtual private server. This is clearly cheaper but comes with a lot of questions I need answers to: Is the risk of having to keep this VPS server up and running worth it? Until now, the host provider has managed the server and we have not had to worry about crashes, downtime, software patches etc. We are not server administrators, we are programmers, so this is not really our expertise. On the other hand, it may not be hard to learn. When we make a website live, we log in to a domain management control panel and change the primary and secondary name servers to point to our shared web host: Eg ns1.sharedwebhost.com and ns2.sharedwebhost.com These name servers are going to have to change when we have a VPS. I don’t understand anything about how to set this up. Is there some useful info anyone could direct me to? Or is there software we need to install to make the primary and secondary name servers work on our VPS? The control panel we have for shared hosting comes with DNS management like this: http://www.yart.com.au/stackoverflow/dns.png What software would I need to install to create this for each site we host at a VPS? The control panel we have for shared hosting also comes with a POP email interface that allows email addresses to be added easily by our customers. Is this something that can be easily set up at a VPS so clients can manage their own email addresses? Is there software we need to install to make this work?

  • CMS/Wiki to use for a HTML5 video site

    Greetings. I want to put up a website with instructive screencasts, and allow for people to add comments to them. I would like use the Video for Everybody technique, partly because I dislike Flash and because it helps in a small way to move the web forward [while being backwards compatable]. I recognize that HTML5 is still in draft, and that support for it varies. I do have some hosting space, and can run Perl, PHP, and Ruby on Rails applications, with a MySQL backend. I should mention that part of my working job involves running some web servers, and that I am a programmer by training (with only a limited familiarity with Perl and PHP, and none with Ruby). I should mention why I don't particularly want to go with a video hosting site (like YouTube or Vimeo): Flash Video Resolution and Quality [I'd like to put up 800x600 videos] Videos promote a club that is not stricly non-profit [ie. may fall afoul of Terms of Service] I'm already paying for web hosting, and free video hosting comes with time and bandwidth limits I don't want there to be two locations where you can comment on the video Now, having said all that, I'd be quite comfortable putting up my own HTML pages, except: that's so web 1.0! :) [ie. it does not allow for comments] I also want to do some blogging and possibly put up a wiki; the site will not be entirely screencasts So, can anyone recommend a CMS (or Wiki, or similar application) that I can customise for this purpose?

  • SQLite Databases and Grid Hosting

    I'm considering moving my site from a GoDaddy shared hosting account to a Media Temple grid hosting account in anticipation of traffic. However, I first have some concerns with the grid hosting setup. My site stores a large personal set of data on a per-user basis (possibly 3-4MB per user). At this rate I was worried about blowing over a 1GB MySQL limit in no time. To deal with this I created distributed SQLite databases per user to store large data objects. It's worked wonderfully so far. SQLite is super fast and simple. I know that reading from and writing to files is different in a Grid Hosting environment. I need to know if this setup is going to cause serious problems. These databases are not (and will not be) highly trafficked. They are personal to the user and will only be touched maybe two locations at the same time (one updating the data hourly at the most, and one or more reading on demand). I'd like to keep this setup as getting additional space (beyond 4GB) on a MySQL database seems to be a real trouble point. Will Grid Hosting cause me serious problems? Thanks.

  • How to make xxx.one.com load content from yyy.two.com

    Hello, I'm currently in need to have xxx.one.com load the content of yyy.two.com. That means that when someone will enter xxx.one.com they'll actually see the content of yyy.two.com (URL in the browser won't change and will remain xxx.one.com). The domains are hosted on separate hosting company. yyy.two.com is on a cPanel and xxx.one.com is on an unknown hosting plan, though I can get its details. yyy.two.com have the same IP of www.two.com and this cannot be changed (as the hosting company told me).     We have a production SQL server hosted offsite at a hosting company, and we have a staging environment within our own network. We want to be able to setup a SQL job that copies content from a table on the staging server to prod on a regular basis, and I think we need to setup a linked server connection to do this. What do I need to get the hosting company to do to allow us to set this up? We have RDP access to the production servers, I just need to know what network and security configurations need to happen from the hosting company's perspective so I can ask them to do it.

    Howdy, Anyone with experience on using both control panels can tell me which one is better suited to run on a windows shared hosting account? I have the option of choosing one of them for my shared hosting account. The web hosting guys (MochaHost) say that DotNetPanel (DNP) is better than Plesk (more features, newer architecture, faster), but looking at the DNP interface I honestly can't say that I agree with them. The big advantage of DNP over Plesk for me is the fact that I can only run .Net 4.0 using DNP (Plesk doesn't support .Net 4.0 yet, as the tech support told me). Thanks

This website is basically a back-end of an mobile online game, and it will: handle up to 10 million of HTTPS request and mySQL queries a day store up to 2000 GB file on the hard disk transfer probably 5000 GB data in and out per month it runs on PHP and mySQL have 10 million records in mySQL database, for each record there are 5-10 fields, around 100 bytes each I really don't know what kind of a server I need to handle these requirements, my question is: what cpu/ram do I need for a dedicated server or vps? what hosting companies are able to offer this kind of dedicated server or VPS? what about cloud computing? I've researched Amazon EC2 but it seems complicated to me. And I've contacted Rackspace but strangely they said Cloudsites is not suitable for my requirements. I wonder if there is other cloud hosting company. any other alternative method? thanks very much!

The client will have an application that will send requests to a server-side Java back-end that will process requests, and the server should also be able to host a website, preferably on a WAMP setup (which is what I'm used to; very little *nix knowledge). Now, I cannot provide any hard stats because this is only a plan that's in a discussion stage. However, we do fully expect it will scale enough to need some type of dedicated hosting.     I am currently doing some research to get some preliminary IT cost projections for a project, and I was looking at Azure. Since this is a startup, I do not want to deal with the IT operations myself and instead am looking at having it all professionally hosted. I am looking at azure due to the SLA assurances, already in place disaster recovery operations, and the reliability. I'm playing with some numbers, and I am wondering if hosting my database on Sql Azure is an option, while hosting the actual webpage on another host until I need the frontend scalability of Azure. Is this actually feasible or will the latency in requests between the web host and azure be too much and I would be better off hosting both on the same service?

    I am migrating my website abc.com from one webhosting company to another in a shared hosting environment. Both have cpanel. And the second hosting account i am preparing to move is my multi-domain hosting account with 3 domains already in it. The problem is, i have many email accounts associated with my website abc.com, which are accessed using webmail. So if i move it to the other host, will i lose all those accounts and their emails? If yes, then how should i synchronise the email accounts so that all the accounts and the contained emails remain intact? I saw some several sync tools like IMAP Sync, etc. But these require two hosts while synchronizing, and as you see, i have just one domain name to be synchronized over 2 servers. PS, i do not have any ssh access on either of them, and i have made complete backup of all files using backup wizard in cpanel.

    I have access to a dedicated server, and I would like to set up a Ventrilo server on it. I don't plan to profit from this Ventrilo server, but their website is quite vague about the legality of hosting a Ventrilo server (< 1000 slot, mind you) without paying for a license. Licensing looks fairly expensive considering I will never have more than a couple hundred slots in use. In summary: if I am hosting a Ventrilo server with less than a thousand slots, do I need to pay for a license?

When i enquired them they said that they will enable to people who personally request for that option.     The community (300 members), cocktailnetwork, has a website, cocktailnetwork.eu and about ten mailing lists. We want to manage the mailing lists from inside the website (lists and subscribers) and link the list's informations with the member profiles on the site. We are on shared hosting. The community members use the lists to send mails to all other members / groups of members. They can subscribe / unsubscribe from a list. The administrators can in addition create / delete / modify lists. Right now I use ezmlm with QmailAdmin, the lists are completly seperated from the website. I could link the data via remote administration commands, but that's not very satisfactory, does not allow the creation of new lists and it's an deprecated feature of our hosting package, sooner or later we'll need to switch anyway. Do You know of an elegant solution for us ? Any web service with a good, stable API ? Thanks.
