  • Cannot use apt-get anymore because of one specific package

    No matter what type of apt-get I run (install, update, ...) I always get: dpkg: warning: files list file for package `libgdata-google1.2-1' missing, assuming package has no files currently installed. dpkg: warning: files list file for package `libntlm0' missing, assuming package has no files currently installed. (Reading database ... 354644 files and directories currently installed.) Preparing to replace libntlm0 1.1-1 (using .../libntlm0_1.1-1_i386.deb) ... Unpacking replacement libntlm0 ... At this point apt-get hang. Does somebody know a way to fix this? Some days ago a line in source.list was removed (Google Chrome).

  • More than one way to skin an Audit

    I get asked quite a bit about auditing in SQL Server. By "audit", people mean everything from tracking logins to finding out exactly who ran a particular SELECT statement. In the really early versions of SQL Server, we didn't have a great story for very granular audits, so lots of workarounds were suggested. As time progressed, more and more audit capabilities were added to the product, and in typical database platform fashion, as we added a feature we didn't often take the others away. So now, instead of not having an option to audit actions by users, you might face the opposite problem - too many ways to audit!   • One to many problem with implementing 301 redirect after changed urls

    I have a problem. I had an old dynamic url which I have now split into multiple static urls. e.g. www.mydomain.com/product.php?type=1&id=2 www.mydomain.com/product.php?type=2&id=3 www.mydomain.com/product.php?type=2&id=4, etc which I have changed to something like www.mydomain.com/electronics/radio www.mydomain.com/electronics/television www.mydomain.com/mobile/smartphone, etc. Google has previously indexed the dynamic urls and search results show the old urls. I want search to point to the new urls. I have kept the old url active, so both urls work. How can I set up a 301 redirect in this case? I run IIS and it only allows a page to be redirected to 1 url. Should I deactivate the old dynamic url? In that case I lose all the previous seo rankings..

  • Internet slow on one router only [the problem only in Ubuntu] [on hold]

    Internet works perfectly on every other router, but browsing sucks at home (slow browsing and slow loading times). I changed DNS servers to 8.8.0.0, still doesn't help. And funnily, download speed is extremely high on this network (meaning torrents for example), but using browsers and loading websites is extremely slow (only on this network). Do I need to change something in router settings or what can I try? By the way, I use wired connection to router. EDIT: There's no problems when using Windows.   • One dimensional cutting algorithm with minimum waste

    Can anybody point me to some resources about "cutting algorithm"? The problem: have rods with length of L meters, e.g. 6 m need cut smaller pieces of different lengths, e.g. need: 4 x 1.2m 8 x 0,9m etc... (many other lengths and counts) How to determine the optimal cutting, what will produce the minimum wasted material? I'm capable write an perl program, but haven't any idea about the algorithm. (if here is already some CPAN module what can help, would be nice). Alternatively, if someone can point me to some "spreadsheet" solution, or to anything what helps. Ps: in addition, need care about the "cutting line width" too, whats means than from the 6m long rod is impossible to cut 6 x 1m, because the cutting itself takes "3mm" width, so it is possible cut only 5 x 1m and the last piece will be only 98.5 cm (1m minus 5 x 3mm cut-width) ;(.

I've tried RewriteRule ^zf2(/.*)$ ../zf2/public/index.php [NC,L] in the line after RewriteBase /, but that just gives me a 400 Bad Request.

  • MacBookPro 7,1 can only see one cpu

    On a MacBookPro 7,1 running ubuntu 11.10, System monitor only sees 1 core (instead of 2). cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep 'cpu cores' also gives: cpu cores : 1 I followed this guide and added acpi_apic_instance=2 to the line with GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT, but that doesn't seem to change the situation. What can I do? I'm using rEFIt, installed under MacOS, and running in dual boot with MacOS. After the rEFIT menu, I'm still presented with the GRUB menu (I'm assuming that's normal). I saw similar posts on this matter, but could not fix my problem with what they suggested. EDIT: With the method mentioned above the computer runs sometimes with 1 core and other times with 2. Why is that? How can it be fixed?

    If you submit technical service requests (SRs) through the My Oracle Support portal, you may often see the term "ODM" used in updates from our Support team. ODM is an acronym for "Oracle Diagnostic Methodology", which defines a standard problem solving approach that all of Oracle Support uses for every technical SR. ODM provides a number of benefits to the SRs - both for the Support organization and for the customer - including a consistent approach, higher quality, justified solutions, and ultimately faster resolution. Screenshot: Example of an ODM "Issue Clarification" activity in a service request The Oracle Diagnostic Methodology applies to both categories of technical SRs: Consultative (question-answer topics) and Problem-Solution. There are a few KM Notes that describe the steps of ODM, however to keep things simple (and since those KM Notes appear to be a bit outdated), I'll summarize the ODM stages here as follows: Consultative ODM - Three mandatory stages: ODM Question: Clarification of the customer's exact question. ODM Answer: Thorough answer to the customer's question. ODM Knowledge Content: Reference to new or existing knowledge base content, or explanation why the particular SR does not necessarily require knowledge content. Problem-Solution ODM - Eight mandatory stages: ODM Issue Clarification: Clarification of the reported issue, including the symptoms, the steps to reproduce, and an outline of the business impact ODM Issue Verification: Confirmation of the issue being verified based on proof provided by the customer, such as screenshots, log files, or reproducing the issue during an Oracle Web Conference. ODM Cause Determination: Succinct outline of the root cause of the issue. ODM Cause Justification: Explanation as to why the root cause applies to this particular situation. ODM Proposed Solution(s): Succinct outline of the potential solution(s) to resolve the issue. ODM Proposed Solution(s) Justification: Explanation of why the proposed solution(s) will in fact resolve the issue. ODM Solution Action Plan: Detailed numbered instructions on how to execute the proposed solutions. ODM Knowledge Content: Reference to new or existing knowledge base content, or explanation why the particular SR does not necessarily require knowledge content. During these stages, you may see other optional ODM-related activities such as "ODM Data Collection", "ODM Action Plan", "ODM Research", and "ODM Test Case". Again, these structured tags help ensure a uniform methodology across your SRs. With this knowledge you should be able to develop better predictability of what's coming next in your SRs, as well as what you can do to help expedite the resolution process.

  • Expressions that are idiomatic in one language but not used or impossible in another

    I often find myself working in unfamiliar languages. I like to read code written by others and then jump in and write something myself before going back and learning the corners of each language. To speed up this process, it really helps to know a few of the idioms you'll encounter ahead of time. Some of these, I've found are fairly unique. In Python you might do something like this: '\n'.join(listOfThings) Not all languages allow you to call methods on string literals like this. In C, you can write a loop like this: int i = 50; while(i--) { /* do something 50 times */ } C lets you decrement in the loop condition expression. Most more modern languages disallow this. Do you have any other good examples? I'm interested in often used constructions not odd corner cases.

  • unreachable subnet in one direction

    I'm unable to route traffic to a subnet in my home. Here's my topology: INET <- Router A <- Router B <- WIFI AP where: Router A - ARRIS TG862G/CT (from comcast) - WAN DHCP, LAN 10.0.0.99 Router B - Linksys WRT400N with DD-WRT - WAN 10.0.0.12 , LAN 10.0.1.1 I was able to use DD-WRT to configure a static route for the 10.0.1.x network back to the 10.0.0.x network. But I'm not sure if i can do the reverse on the ARRIS router and was looking for suggestions on how to fix that. I've set things up this wasy because I am using OpenDNS to mange internet content for my kids and of course I wasn't able to configure DNS to my liking on Router A either. So at present I'm using Router A on 10.0.0.x to provide a private unfiltered WIFI AP (no ssid broadcast) that I use for netflix only and then I use router B to provide a filtered WIFI AP for the rest of my WIFI devices on 10.0.1.x. However I would like to be able to connect to my 10.0.1.x devices from the internet via dynamic dns; but I can't see anything behind router B this way. Thoughts?

  • C#&ndash;Using a delegate to raise an event from one class to another

    Even though this may be a relatively common task for many people, I’ve had to show it to enough new developers that I figured I’d immortalize it… MSDN says “Events enable a class or object to notify other classes or objects when something of interest occurs. The class that sends (or raises) the event is called the publisher and the classes that receive (or handle) the event are called subscribers.” Any time you add a button to a Windows Form or Web app, you can subscribe to the OnClick event, and you can also create your own event handlers to pass events between classes. Here I’ll show you how to raise an event from a separate class to a console application (or Windows Form). First, create a console app project (you could create a Windows Form, but this is easier for this demo). Add a class file called MyEvent.cs (it doesn’t really need to be a separate file, this is just for clarity) with the following code: public delegate void MyHandler1(object sender, MyEvent e); public class MyEvent : EventArgs {     public string message; } Your event can have whatever public properties you like; here we’re just got a single string. Next, add a class file called WorkerDLL.cs; this will simulate the class that would be doing all the work in the project.   • 12.04 indicates filesystem check on next boot, but never does one

    Just installed 12.04 32 bit on my machine, with 3 drives. When I open a terminal window or ssh in remotely, I see: Welcome to Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS (GNU/Linux 3.2.0-29-generic-pae i686)  * Documentation:  https://help.ubuntu.com/ *** /dev/sda1 will be checked for errors at next reboot *** *** /dev/sda2 will be checked for errors at next reboot *** *** /dev/sdg1 will be checked for errors at next reboot *** Last login: Fri Aug 31 08:15:41 2012 from .... However, if I reboot, I never see it doing a disk check on boot up, like I used to see with 10.10. Note, after install, I was not seeing the grub menu on boot. I made a ISO disk with BootRepair and now I get the normal grub menu. Any idea as to why the disk check is not happening on boot (I know I can boot a Live CD and then check the disk - I just want the check on boot working)?

    looking to host a handful of sites for myself, family and a couple of friends. i'm running ubuntu 14.04, with a bind9 authoritative name server, apache2, mysql, php5, postfix/dovecot... i have everything running with a single domain i'm already paying for. looking to run multiple sites, some with their own domains, with out having to pay for more ip address's or 3rd party services, other then the individual dns names. thanks andrew

  • One Week on New Servers and Everything is Great

    It has been a week since we moved our Geekswithblogs.net System to a new set of load balanced servers and everything has been going great.  I am so amazed at the performance of the new hardware.  On average, we only use less than 5% of the CPU at any given moments or the database and web servers.  I have seen a performance boost in page load as well, but I will have to confirm that with the statistics as they roll in.  This is all in preparation for a new community we are launching with some friends that we will be announcing shortly.  We will be launching a nice little contest for our bloggers as well.
