  • Can I tell Chrome not to redirect mistyped URLs?

    If I mistype a URL, Chrome sometimes redirects me to a search. For instance, typing "example_url_i_sometimes_mistype.conm" into the location bar gets me: Your search - example_url_i_sometimes_mistype.conm - did not match any documents. Not only is this annoying, but if the mistyped URL was one on private DNS, I've now just told Google that the domain exists. (A small concern, but bad in principle.) Can I configure Chrome to just show an error and not blab to Google Search about it?

    I have IIS7 on my computer, and I can access it through other computers in my house on the same network through my computer's IP address - 192.168.1.10x Instead of typing in http : //192.168.1.10x/ I want to be able to go to http : //somename/ I know you can change the hosts file to add it but I'd have to do that on each computer and I'd still have to type in the IP to access it from my iPod/Wii... etc.

  • Enabling Shell colours through Putty SSH

    I have set a number of configurations in my .bashrc file to set the appearance of shell on my Redhat machine. However, when I login as root using Putty, the colours are not shown. I can enable them again by typing 'su', which simply puts me back to root like I was when I logged into putty, but that isn't exaclty ideal. Is there some configuration file or something I can use to enable shell colours when I login with Putty? Thanks

    By default on Mac OS X there is a system-wide notification sound that you can choose. This sound is applied to every application and played whenever the application outputs a beep (for instance, when typing a keyboard shortcut that doesn't work, or during a terminal beep). Is there any way to change what sound this is on a per-application basis? Specifically, I'm looking to change the sound Terminal.app uses, while every other app uses another sound.

    I'm learning to use IIS 7 but I don't understand how I can make my website available through a domain. I have a domain as example I will call it www.test.com I have made a website in IIS, running on port 80 and can be viewed by typing the IP of the server in the address bar of my browser. So if I type www.test.com in the address bar how do I make my IIS website show up, without a redirect of course, I don't want users to see the IP in the address bar.

  • new PC not work with existing router, but works fine when directly connecting to cable modem

    I bought a new desktop PC (eMachine ET1331G-03W from WalMart) with windows 7 installed, but I can not access internet by connecting to my existing wireless router(LinkSys BEFW11S4) with wired cable. Though all other existing desktops and laptops have no problem connecting to the same router. However, the new desktop PC works fine and able to connect to internet if I bypass the router and directly hook up with the cable modem. At new PC when connecting to the router, I got the below information by typing ipconfig, the IP address looks wrong to me: autoconfiguration IPv4 Address: 169.254.71.140 subnet mask: 255.255.0.0 default gateway: (empty) NetBIOS over Tcpip: Enabled Typing ipconfig at all other desktop and laptop have values like below, which are good to me: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.140 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 The wireless router was on 192.168.1.1, I do not know why the new desktop got 169.254.71.140 IP? It should have something like 192.168.1.xxx, and it was configured to automatically get IP by DHCP. I have tried to switch cables,power off cable modem, router and reboot new pc many times and got no luck. So I believe this is only an issue related to router or new pc configuration. Can someone help me figure out the issue?

  • Google Chrome Omnibox truncating searches after "#" - I.E. "c# foo" becomes "c"

    I have recently been finding myself stymied trying to perform searches for c#-related things in Chrome. The problem is that the omnibox truncates the # and everything after it. This means typing c# foo" in the omnibox in Chrome and hitting enter returns highly unhelpful search results for "c" Google. Any tricks or extensions that would allow me to type "c# foo" into the omnibox and return results that are related to c# and foo? Am I the only person with this problem?

  • How do you run the previous command in emacs shell?

    I am in terminal mode on Ubuntu, and I'm running emacs with 2 buffers open, one is a ruby file, and the other is a shell (opened by typing M-x shell ), and when I switch to the shell buffer, I want to run the same command that I ran before. I would normally just hit the up arrow in a terminal window, but in emacs, it simply puts the cursor up one line. Does anyone know of keystroke to run the previous shell command from within an emacs shell?

Every time that I start up Firefox with the intent to go to a specific page, I end up typing half the URL in the Google search box when iGoogle steals focus away from the URL bar.     Let's say I entered a bunch of commands one after another: rm blah.txt pwd ls cd .. cd blah pwd If I want to get "rm blah.txt" to appear again without typing the whole thing again, I can press up 6 times. But is there a faster way? Can filter my command history based on some text? Intuitively, I would like to just type in r and then press up to search through my command history for only commands that started with "r".

    Please look in to the picture,here am trying to open(with vi editor) my server console log file(around 100MB) and it takes more than two minutes to open with so many special characters.after deleting the first line (means typing "dd")then i can easily view the file and size of the file is also reduced very much.My server OS is RHEL 5.4 and jboss is running in to it.     I switch between three languages input methods frequently, sometimes in the same typing session. The default shortcut on a Macintosh seems to be to set keyboard shortcuts for previous/next language (I hit opt-cmd-space to go to previous language) and if you're more than bi-lingual you have to cycle until you find the one for you. The ideal would be something like hitting fn-e for English, fn-j for Japanese and fn-g for German, but anything better than the current state would be a great improvement.

From the homepage (or any page within the site), users should then be able to access other pages in the site. But all users would be forced to enter the site through the homepage. So if I type "superuser" in my location bar I end up at http://domainnotfound.optimum.net/cablevassist/dnsassist/main/?domain=superuser I'd like my browser to leave the location the way it was and just say "nothing doing," rather than redirecting me to a search. Can I override that in my own /etc/hosts or at my router?

  • Using cd to go up multiple directory levels

    I'm dealing with java projects which often result in deeply nested folders (/path/to/project/com/java/lang/whatever, etc) and sometimes want to be able to jump, say, 4 directory levels upwards. Typing cd ../../../.. is a pain, and I don't want to symlink. Is there some flag to cd that lets you go up multiple directory levels (in my head, it would be something like cd -u 4)? Unfortunately I can't find any man page for cd specifically, instead just getting the useless "builtins" page.
