Since the emphasis is on modelling ASW or submarines in general, I need only a basic radar model - at least for the beginning. So, does anybody know a resource for such a simple model?   • Why are there so many string classes in the face of std::string?

    It seems to me that many bigger C++ libraries end up creating their own string type. In the client code you either have to use the one from the library (QString, CString, fbstring etc., I'm sure anyone can name a few) or keep converting between the standard type and the one the library uses (which most of the time involves at least one copy). So, is there a particular misfeature or something wrong about std::string (just like auto_ptr semantics were bad)? Has it changed in C++11?

I found this blog post that discusses one method, but it appears only to work for the Google Search Appliance, not the Googlebot. Is there some method for at least Google for to do this?

Apart from being a usability nightmare (even I as a developer hate it when a website requires a complex password), what are the actual benefits of having strong passwords (for website authentication)?   • Should subcontractors be paid for a lunch hour and breaks? [closed]

    I have never charged my clients for lunch-time or breaks, and I have never paid a subcontractor for it before either (at least not to my knowledge). My view has always been that subcontracting has many positives (higher pay, autonomy, etc.) and many negatives (no benefits, etc.) and one of the negatives is you get paid for productive time, which does not include lunch or breaks. But I still wonder, should subcontractors be paid like employees, for lunch breaks, coffee breaks etc.?
