  I have an idea for an Eclipse plugin which I've been toying with. I need to be able to extend the Eclipse Java Editor component and add coloured overlays to the code based on pluggable external metrics. Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be any kind of syntax highlighting extension point. Does anyone know how I might be able to extend the exisitng eclipse Java Editor to add custom highlighting rules? Bear in mind I'm new to Eclipse plugin programming so please give as much detail as possible.

I'm also going to be heavily dealing with java soon and I don't want to install a seperate version of Eclipse just to get the java features as I'll be switching between C-C++-ADA-Java quite often so I'd wont the one IDE to support all languages.   Quite straight forward question. Is there a way to configure Eclipse to work with text files encoded with utf-8 with and without the BOM? So far I've used eclipse with utf-8 encoding and it works, but when I try to edit a file generated by another editor that includes the BOM, Eclipse doesn't handle it properly, it 'shows an invisible character' at the begining of the file (the BOM). Is there a way to make Eclipse understand utf-8 encoded files with BOM?

  I've got an old project in Eclipse 2.1 and compiled with a JDK 1.4.2_12. I want to upgrade the version of Eclipse to Eclipse Galileo. I've imported my project and set the compilation level to 1.4 and I've also updated my build path to use the correct JDK. The problem is that when I compare the compiled files in the classes folder in the two versions of Eclipse, the MD5 checksum are different. Should I be worried about that fact or this is normal?

  In my maven project I want to assemble an ipkg file (This is like a Debian Package but for embedded systems). For this I need to create AR archives with the assembly plugin. In the plugin documentation I found this: "and any other format that the ArchiveManager has been configured for". But I can't find out how to "configure" the "ArchiveManager". How can I do this? Or better: Maybe someone already did this and I can use an already existing plugin?

  Hi, I'm writing an NPAPI plugin. In every webpage that the browser goes to, I inject my plugin with an object tag. Something like: <object id="myplugin" type="plugin-mime-type" > In some pages where i dont want it, after injection i remove it by finding the element using the id and doing a document.removeChild. From my logging i found that in firefox and opera, doing this automatically calls the plugin destroy method NPP_Destroy (NPAPI). But in chrome, it doesnt seem to call it. Is there any special way that i should remove a plugin in chrome that i am missing?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

  I have the following snippet in my pom.xml <dependency> <groupId>aspectj</groupId> <artifactId>aspectjrt</artifactId> <version>1.5.3</version> </dependency> and in one of my Java files I refer a class org.aspectj.lang.ProceedingJoinPoint. When I do a "mvn clean install" it compiles and builds fine but when I do an eclipse:eclipse, and import the project in eclipse it gives me an error The import org.aspectj cannot be resolved. I checked the .classpath file that was generated and it does not have an entry to this file. I tried a "mvn dependency:tree" and it lists this fine. Can someone tell me what is going wrong here?

  I am taking over a project left by previous colleague. The project is mavenized and I'm having a hard time building it. There is a inside block, which generates error when I ran mvn install. The error shows that plugin cannot be found in maven central repo. I checked and it's not there. I happened to find another internal repository that has the plugin jar file. So outside the block, I specified a to point at that internal repo. However, when I ran mvn install again, it still goes to maven central repo to look for the plugin. How do I make it look for the jar file at the right repo? I thought by specifying the list, it would automatically check that list? Other than the repo I added, there was no repository list set up previously.

• Merge XML files with configurable rules (context: Maven POMs, Java)

  Hi, I'm currently writing some kind of a Maven POM preprocessor that assembles a POM for a project from multiple input files (basically a template and a module specific file). The files are hierarchically ordered (template = most general, module specific = least general). The problem is now to merge these files into a single POM file. Long story short or if you're not familiar with Maven: a POM looks like this (shortened): <project> <modelVersion>4.0.0</modelVersion> <dependencies> <dependency> <groupId>org.apache.maven</groupId> <artifactId>maven-core</artifactId> </dependency> </dependencies> </project> Basically the merger shall replace all values of the more general file with the values of the more specific file (i.e. singletons, e.g. the <modelVersion> above) but there are certain elements where the merger shall add the more certain element to a parent (i.e. collections, e.g. <dependency> elements shall always be added to the <dependencies> element and no <dependency> element shall be replaced by another). A more detailed example with definition of desired output: File A: <project> <modelVersion>A</modelVersion> <dependencies> <dependency> <groupId>groupIdA</groupId> <artifactId>artifactIdA</artifactId> </dependency> </dependencies> </project> File B: <project> <modelVersion>B</modelVersion> <dependencies> <dependency> <groupId>groupIdB</groupId> <artifactId>artifactIdB</artifactId> </dependency> </dependencies> </project> Desired output: <project> <modelVersion>B</modelVersion> <dependencies> <dependency> <groupId>groupIdA</groupId> <artifactId>artifactIdA</artifactId> </dependency> <dependency> <groupId>groupIdB</groupId> <artifactId>artifactIdB</artifactId> </dependency> </dependencies> </project> The set of collection type elements are known and should be configurable (preferably via a set of XPath expressions).   I'm a Java newbie who just a made a simple Java program using SWT for GUI via eclipse Juno. The code was working and the program was able to run inside eclipse, so I compiled it and made it a runnable jar file so it can be run outside eclipse. I tried to run it using the terminal and this error came up. Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: Could not load SWT library. • How come I cannot make this file executable (chmod permissions)?

  I downloaded Android Development Tool for linux (ADT) and placed it in home directory. After unzipping the files, when I double click the "eclipse" executable file; the eclipse works perfectly fine. But If I unzip the ADT in a different directory, in my case directory E: (is shown when I boot in windows 7) There double clicking the same "eclipse" executable file does not run eclipse. It shows error message: Could not display /media/Software/00.AndroidLinux/ADT/eclipse/eclipse. There is no application installed for executable files. Do you want to search for an application to open this file? If I press yes in the Dialog, it finds "Pypar2" which is not my solution. I found that the "eclipse" file permission is following -rw------- 1 tanvir tanvir 63050 Feb 4 19:05 eclipse I tried to change the permission by "chmod +x eclipse" , but no use. This command does not change the file permission at all in this case. what should I do? Relevant output of cat /proc/mounts: /dev/sda6 /media/Software fuseblk rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,user_id=0,group_id=0,default_permissions,allow_other,blksize=4096 0 0 Please not that I'm new to Ubuntu and still learning day by day.

• Using JUnit with App Engine and Eclipse

  I am having trouble setting up JUnit with App Engine in Eclipse. I have JUnit set up correctly, that is, I can run tests that don't involve the datastore or other services. However, when I try to use the datastore in my tests they fail.   Hi All, I want to change the behavior of eclipse's parent-first classloader policy to child-first classloader policy. The scenario would be : Plugin A has class C in dependent external jar. When the classloader of the jar looks for "META-INF" folder - it should find the META-INF folder of the jar and not the one found by its parent classloader - that is the plugin A's META-INF folder. So I want to change the classloader policy to 'child-first' rather than 'parent-first' Is it possible to do this by changing the plugin A's Manifest or plugin.xml?

I want to create a Product Configuration(customize splash screen,etc...). Does my plugin need an Application class? I want my plugin to be independant, Standalone with a launcher. Not a fragment.   I have 3 projects on eclipse, maven ejb project, maven wicket webapp project and a enterprise application project that includes ejb and web I mentioned before, as modules. But my question is, How from my web project can I use classes on the ejb project. Lets say ClassA is on the ejb project and I want to say from web project: ClassA cl = new ClassA. I wont be allowed since web project doesnt have ClassA but ejb project. I want to use ejb project as a Business Logic, JPA part. Also I want to include here some not beans classes that I want to use from the web. Dont know if its possible. The web project goes without Business logic, just the wicket pages calling ejb, and using ther classes. Im new in the EE world. Never made an ear file including a war and ejb jar for deploying it on Glassfish. Thanks in advanced.
