  • Enterprise Data Center System Admin/Engineer to Server Ratio

    - by Bob
I know there have been similar questions asked over the last few months however looking at a Data Center Operations and know there are some really smart people out there that might be able to help. Looking for some staffing best practices based on first hand experience and was hoping that there is some experience in this area that can provide "best practice" application: Three High Availability (99.99% plus) Enterprise Level Data Centers geographically dislocated, one manned 24x7x365, one lights out, one co-location running HOT-HOT-HOT supporting a global community. More than 2,000 operating systems consisting of 95% Windows, 5% Linux and Solaris, 45% virtualized, more than 100TB storage. No desktop support, no Network Administration (administrated separately), running N+1 and serving more than 250 Billion page views annually. Based on experience what has been your experience with Server to "Data Center System Administrator/Engineer" ratio? Thanks in advance for your responses.

  • Change UIImageView Center - iPhone

    - by CccTrash
I am trying to make a little ball that rolls around based on the accelerometer values in the iPhone. This code will not build: -(void)accelerometer:(UIAccelerometer *)accelerometer didAccelerate:(UIAcceleration *)acceleration { if(difficulty == @"easy") { CGFloat newX = (CGFloat)(ball.center.x + (CGFloat)acceleration.x); CGFloat newY = (CGFloat)(ball.center.y + (CGFloat)acceleration.y); ball.center.x = newX; ball.center.y = newY; } } It gives me an lvalue required as left operand of assignment error. I've tried 100 different things and I fail every time...This is just the latest failure. Anyone have any insight?

  • video calling (center)

    - by rrejc
We are starting to develop a new application and I'm searching for information/tips/guides on application architecture. Application should: read the data from an external (USB) device send the data to the remote server (through internet) receive the data from the remote server perform a video call with to the calling (support) center receive a video call call from the calling (support) center support touch screens In addition: some of the data should also be visible through the web page. So I was thinking about: On the server side: use the database (probably MS SQL) use ORM (nHibernate) to map the data from the DB to the domain objects create a layer with business logic in C# create a web (WCF) services (for client application) create an asp.net mvc application (for item 7.) to enable data view through the browser On the client side I would use WPF 4 application which will communicate with external device and the wcf services on the server. So far so good. Now the problem begins. I have no idea how to create a video call (outgoing or incoming) part of the application. I believe that there is no problem to communicate with microphone, speaker, camera with WPF/C#. But how to communicate with the call center? What protocol and encoding should be used? I think that I will need to create some kind of server which will: have a list of operators in the calling center and track which operator is occupied and which operator is free have a list of connected end users receive incoming calls from end users and delegate call to free operator delegate calls from calling center to the end user Any info, link, anything on where to start would be much appreciated. Many thanks!

  • Horizontal and vertical center text in html

    - by Christophe Herreman
I have a div with a background image that needs to be centered horizontally and vertically. On top of that image, I also want to display a 1-line text, also centered horizontally and vertically. I managed to get the image centered, but the text is not centered vertically. I thought vertical-align:middle would do the trick. Here's the code I have: <div style="background: url('background.png') no-repeat center; width:100%; height:100%; text-align:center;"> <div style="color:#ffffff; text-align: center; vertical-align:middle;" > Some text here. </div> </div> Any ideas? Workaround: I actually got this to work by using a table. (I'll probably be cursed to hell by the HTML community.) Is there any significant reason not to use this btw? I'm still interested in the solution using divs though. <table width="100%" height="100%"> <tr> <td align="center" style="background: url('background.png') no-repeat center; color:#ffffff;">Some text here.</td> </tr> </table>

  • Modal View Does Not Appear in Center in Horizontal Orientation

    - by Sheehan Alam
I have a UIPresentationFormSheet (contains a textview) that appears in the center of the screen when I am in vertical orientation. When I dismiss the modal view, it disappears fine. When I am in horizontal orientation my modal view does not appear in the center of the screen. I have to dismiss my keyboard for the modal view to appear in the center. [self presentModalViewController:composeTweetController animated:TRUE]; When I dismiss the modal view in horizontal orientation the app automatically switches to vertical orientation. -(void)dismissComposeTweetView{ [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:TRUE]; } I want the following to happen: Modal view should appear in the center in horizontal orientation Modal view should disappear without switching to vertical orientation

  • WPF DataGrid: How to set content alignment of RowHeader to 'Center'

    - by Nike
I use WPF DataGrid. I put a text value in RowHeader and want to set alignment of RowHeader content to 'Center'. I tried this: <toolkit:DataGrid.RowHeaderStyle> <Style TargetType="{x:Type toolkit:Primitives.DataGridRowHeader}"> <Setter Property="HorizontalAlignment" Value="Center"/> <Setter Property="HorizontalContentAlignment" Value="Center"/> </Style> </toolkit:DataGrid.RowHeaderStyle> but it doesn't work. Actually I think that there is TextBlock in RowHeader and I need to set its TextAlignment Property to Center. How can do it?

  • Center text inside a circle on a canvas

    - by jax
    I have the coordinates of the center of a circle where I need to draw some text. The circle may be larger or smaller depending on the attributes I have specified. I have set the center horizontally using mTextBrush.setTextAlign(Align.CENTER);. The problem is that I can't figure out a way to center the text vertically. (See "Draw the counter" below) //Text Brush setup mTextBrush = new Paint(Paint.ANTI_ALIAS_FLAG); mTextBrush.setColor(Color.BLACK); mTextBrush.setTextSize(1/10*mMaxSize); mTextBrush.setTextAlign(Align.CENTER); mTextBrush.setStyle(Paint.Style.STROKE); private void drawSmallTimer(Canvas canvas) { //Variable cache int radiusLocalCache = this.mRadius; int cx = radiusLocalCache+(radiusLocalCache/2); int cy = radiusLocalCache-(radiusLocalCache/2); int radius = radiusLocalCache/3; //Draw the background circle canvas.drawCircle(cx, cy, radius, mBackgroundBrush); //Draw the outline stroke canvas.drawCircle(cx, cy, radius, mStrokeBrush); //Draw the counter String text = String.valueOf(mCounter); canvas.drawText(text, cx, cy, mTextBrush); }

  • Scaling vectors from a center point?

    - by user146780
I'm trying to figure out if I have points that make for example a square: * * * * and let's say I know the center of this square. I want a formula that will make it for eample twice its size but from the center * * * * * * * * Therefore the new shape is twice as large and from the center of the polygon. It has to work for any shape not just squares. I'm looking more for the theory behind it more than the implementation. Thanks

  • Tool to determine filesystem on removable media

    - by Todd Brooks
I have a CompactFlash card that is used in a custom piece of hardware. WAV files are written to it. Windows doesn't recognize the media and wants to format it, which rules out FAT 16/32, NTFS, UDF, etc. Is there a Windows tool that can determine what filesystem the media is using and possible read the contents? I've tried dskprobe.exe, but it did not work.

  • Best Way to Load Streaming Media Content in Intranet

    - by Magic
Hello, What would be the best way to deal with large streaming media content in Intranet. We have a 50 MB file that is to be loaded to our Intranet site. Currently we have just pointed it to a file location instead of using a Data Streaming Server. This will download to each client when selected and is obviously not a good approach to accessing streaming media when accessing from overseas offices. Any suggestions? Cheers, Magic

  • Streaming media from a download link

    - by Danny V.
There often discussions and many facilities available to download streaming media (eg Youtube, Vimeo, etc), however is there a way it can stream a download link? Currently, my internet connection is prohibitively slow to download a video and I would prefer if I could watch the video while it is still downloading but I couldn't find how to do this. I did find this article but it appears to need your own media server.

  • mirror a site with wget and download static media

    - by mountainswhim
I'd like to mirror a site with wget and convert all the links to the local copies I've downloaded. So far that's easy all I have to do is wget -mk http://site.com However all of the static media is located in a different domain, if I follow all of the foreign hosts using the -H option it will download that static media files, but it will also download anything else externally linked. Is there a way to specify 'only download foreign hosts specified in list X'?

  • Can the Windows Media Player COM control play AVI files from memory (instead of from a file)?

    - by MusiGenesis
I have a C# app, and I'm looking at using the Windows Media Player COM control to play animation and audio. So far, the only way I see of programatically controlling what the control is playing is to set its URL property to point to some file (I assume there's some way to pass in a playlist). Is there any way the WMP can render an AVI that is entirely in-memory, like a MemoryStream or something? If so, can WMP skip from one AVI to the next seamlessly (i.e. no glitch in either the audio or the video as it transitions from one to the next)? If WMP only plays files, is there some way to cue up a list of the files in advance of play start? If so, can WMP be made to skip from one file to the next without a brief interruption? Any knowledge or links to knowledge would be much appreciated.

  • Google TV Gets Bad Reception. Can Media Center Pull in the Signal?

    - by andrewbrust
The news hit Monday morning that Google has decided to delay the release of its Google TV platform, and has asked its OEMs to delay any products that embed the software.  Coming just about two weeks prior to the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Google’s timing is about the worst imaginable.  CES is where the platform should have had its coming out party, especially given all the anticipation that has built up since its initial announcement came 7 months ago. At last year’s CES, it seemed every consumer electronics company had fashioned its own software stack for Internet-based video programming and applications/widgets on its TVs, optical disc players and set top boxes.  In one case, I even saw two platforms on a single TV set (one provided by Yahoo and the other one native to the TV set). The whole point of Google TV was to solve this problem and offer a standard, embeddable platform.  But that won’t be happening, at least not for a while.  Google seems unable to get it together, and more proprietary approaches, like Apple TV, don’t seem to be setting the world of TV-Internet convergence on fire, either. It seems to me, that when it comes to building a “TV operating system,” Windows Media Center is still the best of a bad bunch.  But it won’t stay so for much longer without some changes.  Will Redmond pick up the ball that Google has fumbled?  I’m skeptical, but hopeful.  Regardless, here are some steps that could help Microsoft make the most of Google’s faux pas: Introduce a new Media Center version that uses XBox 360, rather than Windows 7 (or 8), as the platform.  TV platforms should be appliance-like, not PC-like.  Combine that notion with the runaway sales numbers for Xbox 360 Kinect, and the mass appeal it has delivered for Xbox, and the switch form Windows makes even more sense. As I have pointed out before, Microsoft’s Xbox implementation of its Mediaroom platform (announced and demoed at last year’s CES) gets Redmond 80% of the way toward this goal.  Nothing stops Microsoft from going the other 20%, other than its own apathy, which I hope has dissipated. Reverse the decision to remove Drive Extender technology from Windows Home Server (WHS), and create deep integration between WHS and Media Center.  I have suggested this previously as well, but the recent announcement that Drive Extender would be dropped from WHS 2.0 creates the need for me to a) join the chorus of people urging Microsoft to reconsider and b) reiterate the importance of Media Center-WHS integration in the context of a Google compete scenario. Enable Windows Phone 7 (WP7) as a Media Center client.  This would tighten the integration loop already established between WP7, Xbox and Zune.  But it would also counter Echostar/DISH Network/Sling Media, strike a blow against Google/Android (and even Apple/iOS) and could be the final strike against TiVO. Bring the WP7 user interface to Media Center and Kinect-enable it.  This would further the integration discussed above and would be appropriate recognition of WP7’s Metro UI having been built on the heritage of the original Media Center itself.  And being able to run your DVR even if you can’t find the remote (or can’t see its buttons in the dark) could be a nifty gimmick. Microsoft can do this but its consumer-oriented organization, responsible for Xbox, Zune and WP7, has to take the reins here, or none of this will likely work.  There’s a significant chance that won’t happen, but I won’t let that stop me from hoping that it does and insisting that it must.  Honestly, this fight is Microsoft’s to lose.
