• My headset doesn't work [closed]

  Hello! I am not sure if this question fits on this site :S if it doesn't please let me know and i remove it :) well... here is my problem I just got a steel series headset for christmas(yay!) and i quickly plugged it into my MacBook Pro. The audio output works fine, but i am having issues with the audio input :( i had these kinds of problems before and i think my mac may be broken :( but then i saw this post: http://www.biloca.com/blog/?p=25 and they talked about some power issues to the microphone on the Mac Mini... I did not quite get what they were discussing so i have a simple question :) Do any of you have an idea why my microphone doesn't work? Please help! :) Best Regards Kristian

• How to optimize Dijkstra algorithm for a single shortest path between 2 nodes?

  Hi, I was trying to understand this implementation in C of the Dijkstra algorithm and at the same time modify it so that only the shortest path between 2 specific nodes (source and destination) is found. However, I don't know exactly what do to. The way I see it, there's nothing much to do, I can't seem to change d[] or prev[] cause those arrays aggregate some important data for the shortest path calculation. The only thing I can think of is stopping the algorithm when the path is found, that is, break the cycle when mini = destination when it's being marked as visited. Is there anything else I could do to make it better or is that enough? P.S: I just noticed that the for loops start at 1 until <=, why can't it start at 0 and go until <?

• How to assume/steal another process's windows as my own?

  I'd like to show another app's windows under my app's taskbar button. It's a background app that reports another process's windows as my app's own. Is there any universal way to do this, e.g. each "new" window, alert glow, progressmeter, and other taskbar features, show under my own app's button? For example, Winfox runs under its own process and steals Firefox's windows. It also adds features, but that's irrelevant -- I just want to support another app's existing taskbar features under my own app's button -- multiple windows, progressmeter, alert flashing, error flashing, mini-icons, etc. Is there a near-universal way to steal an app, or is it largely app-specific? • need a web browser in my desktop application

  part of the specification of this desktop application is to have a mini browser built in, so that you can enter URL, and navigate the site as you would on a normal browser. Access to the browser page's DOM is required, should let me programmatically change the rendering view of a page, should be cross-platform, renders javascript JDIC seems outdated and I've heard Mozswing doesn't run on Mac.... Jxbrowser license costs a grand and up. Is Java the wrong platform to be creating such app? Are there any other solutions out there for building an application like this ? Thank you.

• Java: using endpoint to publish webservice to tomcat server

  hi all, i am creating a simple SOAP web service. i am to ensure that it runs on a tomcat web service. im trying to implement this with JAX-WS (see code) my question is: does the Endpoint.publish use the tomcat server to host this or is it a mini glassfish kind of server? should i be extending UnicastRemoveObject or something similiar instead? ideally it would be able to be packaged into a .WAR and dropped in the directory and just work. It doesn't seem to work with my installed tomcat server as is because it says the port is already in use. • django username in url, instead of id

  Hello, in a mini virtual community, i have a profile_view function, so that i can view the profile of any registered user. The profile view function has as a parameter the id of the user wich the profile belongs to, so that when i want to access the profile of user 2 for example, i call it like that: http://127.0.0.1:8000/accounts/profile_view/2/ My problem is that i would like to have the username in the url, and NOT the id. I try to modify my code as follows, but it doesn't work still. • Add multiples Picturebox using ThreadPool

  Hi! Im doing a Naval Battle for University. I decided to do it in C#. My board is 20 x 20 of mini (20x20) PictureBoxes. The problem is when I load the board I got a huuuge delay for draw all of them in the panel which contains them. So I thought to ThreadPool my method to escale the picuteres boxes creation and drawing fester. Is this the correct aproach? I'm wondering if even if I launch 20 threads to create and set the picturesoboxes together I will still have the graphic delay. • How to use ctrl-i for an emacs shortcut without breaking tabs

  I want to redefine the emacs keyboard shortcut control-i to be "MOVE CURSOR UP" To do this, I added the following line to my .emacs file: (global-set-key (kbd "C-i") 'previous-line) What I then discovered is that the tab key, by default, does whatever is bound to control-i, which is obviously not what I want. So, to restore normal tab behavior, I added this to my .emacs file (global-set-key (kbd "<tab>") 'indent-for-tab-command) This mostly works. BUT, tab no longer works for auto-completing commands in the mini buffer. How can I fix that? Or is there a better way of going about this? Thanks.

• Why is x86 ugly? aka Why is x86 considered inferior when compared to others?

It's definitely the conventional wisdom that X86 is inferior to MIPS, SPARC, and PowerPC x86 is ugly I tried searching but didn't find any reasons. I don't find x86 bad probably because this is the only architecture I'm familiar with. Can someone kindly give me reasons for considering x86 ugly/bad/inferior compared to others.

• What's the big difference between those two binary files?

  These are two files (contained in the tar.bz2) that were generated using a just-in-time compiler for a game engine. The generated code from ui-linux.bin is from a x86_64 gcc compiler and the ui-windows.bin from the same brand of compiler but targetting win x86_64 (mingw-w64). I've attempted to debug a problem that occurs only on the windows version and i stumbled upon what it seems to be different end-binary code. However, the input assembly code was virtually identical (only difference being pointer representations as int). (there's theoretically no winabi/unixabi conflict since that's taken care of by an attribute flag on certain declarations involved). Any idea what it might be that makes these two binary codes different? The C for the mini-compiler and base assembly producing it appears compatible at first glance. http://www0.org/vm/bins.tar.bz2

  As part of a mini-haskell compiler that I'm writing, I have a function named app. What I want this function to do is take in these arguments epp (App e1 e2). The first step would be to evaluate e1 recursively (epp e1) and check if the output would be an error.   How should I implement items that are normalized in the Database, in Object Oriented classes? In the database I have a big table of items and a smaller of groups. Each item belong to one group. It should also be easy to do calculations with a bunch of items. The group information like VAT are needed for the calculations. I will write an Item class, but do I need a Group class? and if I need it, should I keep them in a global location or how do I access it when I need it for Item-calculations? Is there any design pattern for this case?

• Manual stack backtrace on Windows mobile (SEH)

  Following situation: I'm developing an windows mobile application using the sdk 6. Target machine is a nautiz x7. To improve the error reporting I want to catch the structured exceptions (SEH) and do a stack backtrace to store some information for analysis. So far I have the information where the exception was thrown (windows core.dll) and I can backtrace the return adresses thru the stack. But what I want to know is, which instruction in my code caused the exception? Does anyone know how to use the available exception and context information to get the appropriate function/instruction address? Unfortunately windows mobile 6 sdk for pocketpc does not support all the helper functions to do stackwalks or mini dumps.

  Hello, I'm very new to the JavaScript library world. I have used JS by itself before to create a mini social network but this is the first time I use a JS library and I really don't know how to go about this. I'm planning to use Google Closure and I'm really not sure how I should go about organizing the code. Should I put everything in one file since it's a web app and should have one screen? Should I separate the code to many chunks and put them in different files? Or should I put different dialogs (like settings) in a separate page and thus a separate file? Like all programmers I'm a perfectionist so please help me out with this one, thanks.

  I am currently looking at using either the Taxonomy or CCK module on my Drupal site as a means to create a hierarchical system. However, I'm a little confused on which one would best suit my needs, or if there is something else that would work better. Basically, there will be probably 70 or so "mini-sites" on the website I'm working on, each with a landing page and about 5 sub-pages of detailed information. I need a way to mark those sub-pages as being sub-pages of their parent page, as well as create a menu system to navigate between them. What is the best way this could be done?   Hello, I have chosen diploma work in university. It's a mini social network. But now I am really stuck with which technology I should stick. I am average at C++ ISAPI web services development, below average PHP(had few projects with it) and new to Ruby and its framework RAILS. I have a deadline 1.5 month to develop it(about 5 hours every day after my full time job). Also I heard that its very easy to learn and develop with Ruby on Rails. Considering C++ I know that I have to do lots of coding and work by myself and PHP looks almost the same to me. So I am looking for you skilled developers advise what would you do in my position? Learn RoR, stick with C++ or PHP or maybe use something else?

  Hi I want to create an Iphone app that can display real time video from a camera. The intended setup is. Camera connected to Mac Mini delivering real time video to Iphone over local network. The Iphone doesn't need to display high quality or use a high frame rate, but it has to be real time. Max 1 sec delay. I've been searching a lot for a solution, but so far I have not found a resonable one. HTTP Live Stream is not a solution due to the delay. Any suggestions?

  I have the need to grab all the thee element triangles that make up the lower triangle of a symmetric matrix. I can not think of how to grab all these pieces in the order of far left column working down and then next column to the right and so on. • How to launch a mac application without a terminal window.

  I've written an open-source c++ application and it works fine on Windows and Linux, I finally got a Mac Mini (with 10.5.8) so I've just been testing the Mac version. My application works fine when running it from inside a terminal window and typing ./appname , but if instead I double click on it from the finder, then it opens a termnial window first and then runs my app but it doesn't seem to set the working directory to the correct location so my app dies. How do I make my app so when it launches by being double clicked on it doesn't open a terminal window first and how can I have the current directory set to the apps location automatically?

• What's the best way to write a maintainable web scraping app?

  I wrote a perl script a while ago which logged into my online banking and emailed me my balance and a mini-statement every day. I found it very useful for keeping track of my finances. The only problem is that I wrote it just using perl and curl and it was quite complicated and hard to maintain. After a few instances of my bank changing their webpage I got fed up of debugging it to keep it up to date. So what's the best way of writing such a program in such a way that it's easy to maintain? I'd like to write a nice well engineered version in either Perl or Java which will be easy to update when the bank inevitably fiddle with their web site.
