• btrfs and missing free space

  I converted my ext4 partition to btrfs and deleted the save subvolume after doing so. Then I enabled the compression (lzo) of the filessystem in the fstab file and everything is correct so far. Then I forced the compression of all files using the defragmentation command with the parameter -c that the new compression is applied to all files. While doing so, I noticed that my ssd got completly filled up - before I had 6gigs of free space. I found that the file is created by Log class and doesn't have ability to switch it off and error handling. • Missing Firefox app icon

  I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 (upgraded from LTS 10.04) and Firefox (version 11) doesn't show it's icon in the Window List panel, in the Firefox window top left corner (system menu) nor when using ALT+TAB to switch applications. I'm using unity 2D since I'm running ubuntu as a guest in a VMWare virtual machine (Host is windows 7) Instead of the Firefox icon I get what appears to be a generic icon that looks like an app window in the window list and a black rectangle with a curl in the bottom right corner in the ALT+TAB window. How do I fix this so that the proper Firefox icon gets displayed? EDIT: Depending on the icon set chosen in the Appearence settings window sometimes I get the icon, sometimes I don't. When using Ubuntu classic none of the icon sets provide the icon for Firefox.

  After I upgraded from 13.04 to 13.10 my rhythmbox wouldn't work. After many failed attempts I ended up uninstalling and removing all traces of rhythmbox I could find. Now I've reinstalled rhythmbox, and am getting the error rhythmbox: error while loading shared libraries: librhythmbox-core.so.7: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I've tried sudo apt-get install librhythmbox* Only to get Reading package lists... • LVM incorrectly reported missing after power failure

  We have had a major power failure in the data-center. We are using a set of servers for our storage needs. The main server has several pairs of disks mirrored with mdadm. The resulting /dev/mdX are LVM physical volumes and belong to a big volume-group with all our data. After the powerloss, we had the problem that one of the mdadm devices was not auto-detected due to a missing entry in mdadm.conf. As a consequence, the volumegroup had inactive logical volumes due to the missing PV. We were able to fix the mdadm config and reboot. pvscan shows all expected PVs but one LV still does not come up. vgdisplay shows: [...] Cur PV: 3 Act PV: 2 [...] Neither vgscan nor pvscan show any missing devices. What went wrong? How can we force LVM to activate all PVs?

• eth0 missing after upgrading from Hoary to Dapper

  I'm trying to upgrade a fairly old server that's been running Hoary for the last five years. I followed the directions on the wiki, but when I restarted after upgrading to Dapper, eth0 disappeared from ifconfig -a. I can see two ethernet adapters in lspci and lshw, and if I put in an Ubuntu 10.10 LiveCD it registers eth0 and eth1 perfectly well. Their MAC addresses also match what's in /etc/iftab. It was working fine before the upgrade, and I have no idea what else I should be trying at this point. The server is entirely cut off from the network right now. EDIT: /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules doesn't exist, either.

  After installing Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 32-bit, I have installed Ubuntu Restricted Extras, configured Medibuntu, installed Synaptic Package, Adobe Flash Player which came installed with Chromium which is the browser I installed. Also files to play encrypted DVDs. I haven't been able to locate the flashplayer file in /usr/lib folders which I assume should be there. Don't know if this is why I can't see videos at YouTube. Not sure where else to look.

  I am dealing with datasets with missing data and need to be able to fill forward, backward, and gaps. So, for example, if I have data from Jan 1, 2000 to Dec 31, 2010, and some days are missing, when a user requests a timespan that begins before, ends after, or encompasses the missing data points, I need to "fill in" these missing values. Is there a proper term to refer to this concept of filling in data? Imputation is one term, don't know if it is "the" term for it though. I presume there are multiple algorithms & methodologies for filling in missing data (use last measured, using median/average/moving average, etc between 2 known numbers, etc. Anyone know the proper term for this problem, any online resources on this topic, or ideally links to open source implementations of some algorithms (C# preferably, but any language would be useful)

  I have been learning PHP. I had installed Apache-server (not in a combination-suite like USBWebserver). Now I'm trying to put my sites on a portable stick, using USBWebserver. I already used that program before to carry MySQL databases with me (and Apache worked as well, cause I used the included PHPMyAdmin for managing the databases.), but now it doesn't work anymore. When I start the program, I keep having the text saying Apache is offline. I've tried to open Apache using the command line (don't know what that would do, but, it's just a try). I got an error message saying Syntax error on line 494 of C:/.../httpd.conf: Cannot load C:/.../php5apache2_2.dll into server: (The following is translated from Dutch) An initialization routine of the dynamic link library (dll-file) has failed. Line 494 says this: LoadModule php5_module "C:/Users/School/Downloads/USBWebserver v8_en/php/php5apache2_2.dll" My first Apache installation (its service) is not running. The ports are different. And I also uninstalled the service (using the httpd.exe -k uninstall command); What can be the problem? Thanks for help.

• Sharepoint web part fails intermittently

  I have a MOSS 2007 environment, 2 web servers and a DB server, load balanced between the two web servers. I deployed a web part recently, which worked fine for a while, but failed on web server 2 after a day. When it fails, it gets the error message: 'A Web Part or Web Form Control on this Page cannot be displayed or imported. The type could not be found or it is not registered as safe’ Once it has failed, it will stay that way until an IIS reset is done. The other web server never fails, I tried to force the second web server to fail to recreate the issue and have been unable to do it. I tried placing it under heavy http traffic and it handled it fine. Put it back in the pool and it failed again after about 7 hours. So, if i remove the .dll for the webpart from the affected web server, the webpart doesnt stop working. Is this normal behavior? I checked the bin directory for the site and the global assembly and it there is no other copy of the .dll anywhere else on the server. Also, when checking the web part gallery, if the web part has failed it will appear in the gallery, but by trying to add a new webpart, the .dll wont be listed. I have no idea how to continue troubleshooting from here or even fix it, any ideas?

• WiX major upgrade refuses to replace existing file!

  Hello! I have inherited this project with a WiX installer, and am required to make this version usefully upgrade the previous one! My problem comes in replacing the database files with new versions. No, the problem is not that they are locked, I can replace them manually, and in fact now ONE of them is replaced, while the other is not. Please, please tell me what I'm doing wrong here. • Stuck on preserving config file in WIX major upgrade!

  ARGH! Wix is driving me crazy. So, of course I have seen the many posts both here on stackoverflow and elsewhere about WiX and major upgrades. I inherited this software project using WiX and am releasing a new version. I need this new version to leave ONLY the one configuration file if it's present, and replace everything else. This installer works EXCEPT no matter what I have done so far, the new XML file replaces the old on every install. Even attempting to use NeverOverwrite="yes" and even trying and messing back and forth with OnlyDetect="no"! I am simply stuck and humbly request a little guidance. The file that needs to be preserved is called SETTINGS.XML and is in the All Users-ApplicationData directory. • Re-add missing project without having to re-add it to all projects referencing it

  Lets say you open a .NET solution (mine being VS 2010) after you just moved your entire folder to some new location locally. Now one of the projects that was being referenced in that solution is not there and so when you launch VS, it naturally tells you that the project is missing and therefore as always you see the project greyed out in Solution Explorer. Ok, well I can't go re-add that project (specify a different path for where that project lives) unless I remove the missing project reference and then try to re-add it back to the solution. But how can I reassociate a project without losing all references in other projects that were referencing that missing project? Is this possible? Otherwise every time I re-add that missing project, I end up having to go through about 8 projects of mine that are referencing it and re-reference it for each one of those projects which is tedious. I guess it makes sense since each project was referencing that missing project at that old path so it would break it there as well but is there an easier way to re-associate a project and references to that missing project without having to take 10 minutes every time to re-associate it all over the place if simply the path has changed?

  Windows 7 Ultimate x64. The TrustedInstaller service is failing to start with an error about a file missing, and sure enough C:\Windows\servicing\TrustedInstaller.exe is missing. What is the easiest way to restore this file? I can't run SFC from within Windows, because that results in the error "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service"... which happens if the trusted installer service is not running.

Below is a screecapture of a wikipage in the edit mode, where the standard WYSIWYG controls (expected to be present just above the text input in the left corner) are missing. In an attempt to solve the issue, TracWysiwygPlugin was installed, but this has not changed the situation. What could be the reason for missing WYSIWYG controls and how could it be fixed?

I'm now looking for a memcache.dll file that works with PHP 5.3 I've used some of the previous .dll files and recieved an error message: "PHP Startup: memcache: Unable t initialize module. • Inconsistent responses from ISAPI DLL in mod_isapi.

  I have a ISAPI dll which I created with Delphi 2009, and I have been able to test that it functions as designed when I run it inside of IIS 5.1. However when I attempt to host the web service from within Apache on Windows XP using mod_isapi, I do not get consistent results. The ISAPI dll implements a very simple SOAP service with two methods. One method is a simple echo service that sends back the string sent to it. The second method is used to send a file to the server using a TSoapAttachement (Mutipart MIME). The interface can be descibes as follows IPdiSvc2 = interface(IInvokable) ['{532DCDD7-D66B-4D2C-924E-2F389D3E0A74}'] function Echo(data:string): string; stdcall; function SendFile(request:TFileDescription; attachment: TSOAPAttachment): TSendFileResponse; stdcall; end; What is interesting is if I only call the echo function Apache handles this without error every time. The webservice only returns an error after calling send File, but not every time. There are three outcomes to calling send file that I have observed: A normal result without an error (HTTP 200 OK). A Soap encoded exception with the message: 'Required white space was missing. Line: 11 <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML.' (HTTP 500 Internal Error). This also generates a message in the Apache error.log 'Premature end of script headers: MYISAPI.dll' A Soap encoded exception with the message: 'Access violation at address 01A53D57 in module MYISAPI.dll. Read of address 00000000.' (HTTP 200 OK). What I find interesting is that the second third outcomes still occur if I call echo after calling send file. Calling SendFile, SendFile, SendFile, SendFile results in outcomes 1, 2, 3, 1. Calling Echo, SendFile, SendFile, SendFile results in outcomes 1, 1, 2, 3. Calling SendFile, Echo, Echo, SendFile results in outcomes 1, 2, 3, 1. The pattern I am seing is that after a Successful SendFile, the next to requests result in outcomes 2 and 3 regardless of what those two requests are. My guess is that because Apache uses multiple threads to handle multiple requests that each request is getting handled in a slightly different way, and that the DLL may not have been initialized in the same way for each worker thread. I do not think the problem exists in my code as when I attach the debugger to httpd.exe it does recognize the exceptions but it says the exceptions are in non-delphi code meaning that they are happening before the code inside my DLL has a chance to execute. I suspect it may have something to do with the way I have apache configured. • PInvoke Unbalances the stack

  Good afternoon, I have been working on a dll that can use CORBA to communicate to an application that is network aware. The code works fine if I run it as a C++ console application. However, I have gotten stuck on exporting the methods as a dll. The methods seems to export fine, and if I call a method with no parameters then it works as expected. I'm hung up on passing a C# string to a C++ method. My C++ method header looks like this: bool __declspec(dllexport) SpiceStart(char* installPath) My C# DLL import code is as follows: [DllImportAttribute("SchemSipc.dll", CharSet=CharSet.Ansi)] private static extern bool SpiceStart(string installPath); I call the method like so: bool success = SpiceStart(@"c:\sedatools"); The call to SpiceStart throws the exception "PInvokeStackImbalance", which "is likely because the managed PInvoke signature does not match the unmanaged target signature." Does anyone have any suggestions? If I remove the char* and string from the parameters, then the method runs just fine. However, I'd like to be able to pass the installation path of the application to the dll from C#. Thanks in advance, Giawa

• Subsonic Access To App.Config Connection Strings From Referenced DLL in Powershell Script

  I've got a DLL that contains Subsonic-generated and augmented code to access a data model. Actually, it is a merged DLL of that original assembly, Subsonic itself and a few other referenced DLL's into a single assembly, called "PowershellDataAccess.dll. However, it should be noted that I've also tried this referencing each assembly individually in the script as well and that doesn't work either. I am then attempting to use the objects and methods in that assembly. In this case, I'm accessing a class that uses Subsonic to load a bunch of records and creates a Lucene index from those records. The problem I'm running into is that the call into the Subsonic method to retrieve data from the database says it can't find the connection string. I'm pointing the AppDomain at the appropriate config file which does contain that connection string, by name. Here's the script. $ScriptDir = Get-Location [System.IO.Directory]::SetCurrentDirectory($ScriptDir) [Reflection.Assembly]::LoadFrom("PowershellDataAccess.dll") [System.AppDomain]::CurrentDomain.SetData("APP_CONFIG_FILE", "$ScriptDir\App.config") $indexer = New-Object LuceneIndexingEngine.LuceneIndexGenerator $indexer.GeneratePageTemplateIndex("PageTemplateIndex"); I went digging into Subsonic itself and the following line in Subsonic is what's looking for the connection string and throwing the exception: ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings[connectionStringName] So, out of curiosity, I created an assembly with a single class that has a single property that just runs that one line to retrieve the connection string name. I created a ps1 that called that assembly and hit that property. That prototype can find the connection string just fine. Anyone have any idea why Subsonic's portion can't seem to see the connection strings?
