Hi,
I used to rename file in Linux via a rename command:
rename 's/old_pattern/new_pattern/g' *glob
Is there something similar in Mac OSX (snow leopard)? Thanks
I have a Windows virtual machine running inside Parallels in my Mac OSX.
This virtual machine is setup to use shared network.
What I want is: How to access a IIS service running inside this virtual machine from other computers in the network?
I am trying to install opencv on Mac OSX Lion.
brew install opencv
I get the following error (and a few other similar ones)
Error: The linking step did not complete successfully
The formula built, but is not symlinked into /usr/local
You can try again using `brew link jpeg'
When I do
brew link jpeg
Linking /usr/local/Cellar/jpeg/8d... ln: wrjpgcom: File exists
I do not understand what this means? What should I be doing? Thanks
I want to read and annotate internet articles like books on my iPad so I would like to convert HTML to PDF. Is there a way of doing this that
preserves every font as is
can make PDF out of selection
handle javascript source code highlighting libraries well
doesn't add anything (ads from shareware or logos etc) to every page
I will be happy with any solution applicable to iPad or OSX. I have tried some converters I have found online but none fit the criteria above.
I put OSx 10.1 on a Dell Mini 10v and everytime it goes to sleep, it either will not emerge from the sleep or if it does it's frozen. Is there something that I should be doing that I'm not? I went into the boot settings and it's set to load off of the Hard Disk drive and not the USB.
When I delete folders or files in through osx terminal using the rm -rf, where do they go? I heard that some say they are deleted directly, but some also say it only "remove the link to the file making it unable to be found or accessed without special tools" (http://superuser.com/questions/370786/where-do-files-and-directories-go-when-i-run-rm-rf-folder-or-file-name-in-ubu).
Someone said something about ext3 being able to save rm-ed files in ubuntu but what about mac?
Having an issue where I have a folder on a QNAP NAS (TS-439P II+) with over 68,000 subfolders within it.
I can browse it quickly and almost instantaneously within Windows 7 via samba, however in OSX 10.6.8, it takes nearly 10+ minutes to display the subfolders, using both samba and AFP.
Hoping there is an easy solution - we can't break the folders into smaller subfolders due to a requirement of proprietary software that accesses the sub folders.
I've tried the fixes suggested here, which don't seem to help:

When working from Windows, I prefer to use RoyalTS instead of the default Microsoft RDP client, because it allows me to save multiple connections, the credentials of the connection, etc; as well has having more than 1 connection open at a time.
Is there a similar (or any) alternative to the Microsoft RDP client for connecting from OSX to Windows? Aside from VNC, that is; at this point I'm hoping to continue using the RDP protocol.
Ive got a folder with about a hundred sub folders and again each ones of those has between 10 and 20 sub folders, so all in all a pretty large folder tree.
Is there a simple way i can explode or export all of the files in the tree to a new folder which will just be one folder contain the files (no folders, no trees).
Im running OSX 10.8, although ive also got Parallels so if there is a windows solution i could just run that as its not something i need to do everyday.
Does anyone know how to import contacts from MS exchange to OSX Leopard Address book? I am able to get auto-complete in Mail for the email address stored in Exchange but I cannot import the contacts to Address book. Anyone know how?
hi,
I use OSX. When launch X11 this open a xterm.
how I can automatically locate xterm in a specific position every time I open X11? (centered on the screen)
many thanks.
I set up a local server without MAMP, for various reasons. I used this tutorial: http://coolestguyplanettech.com/downtown/install-and-configure-apache-mysql-php-and-phpmyadmin-osx-108-mountain-lion
I'm just wondering why the local IP and localhost resolve to two different locations. Right now the IP resolves to a Virtual Host I set up and the localhost resolves to the DocumentRoot established by httpd.conf
In Photoshop CS6, the default behavior of depressing the spacebar as a shortcut for the Hand tool was working as expected, then stopped for no apparent reason. I have rebooted, closed browsers, shut down all other applications and deleted preferences and the problem persists. The spacebar works properly elsewhere, including Photoshop CS4.
Is there a keyboard shortcut setting I'm missing (I've checked Edit - Keyboard Shortcuts and can find nothing for the spacebar, and can not add it to the Hand tool).
This is on OSX Lion 10.7.4
I can connect to other computers on my home network (ubuntu + OSX machines) using the IP address, but I can't connect using the netbios name.
On the mac the name appears in Finder but if I try to connect (goconnect to server smb://[email protected]) it doesn't work, while smb://[email protected] does. Same with ssh, ping and afp between the macs.
This is a intermittent problem. It has worked in the past.
I don't remember this happening before, but now whenever I play any video in iTunes (podcast video, movie, TV show, iTunes extras stuff but the menus work) it just shows a black screen with the sound playing. If I stop it, select "Computer" in the little output control on the iTunes video control panel that pops up, then play again, it works fine.
What the heck?
Tried rebooting, updating, with and without external monitor.
OSX 10.6.6
I need to use Kerberos authentication when printing from my OSX machine, however, the machine itself does not have a service account in active directory, so the KDC will not issue a delegation ticket for the local CUPS installation.
I think printing could work if the printing framework would directly print to the network CUPS server (or even to the Windows print server), bypassing the local CUPS. Is it possible to setup printing so that it directly accesses the remote print server? (asking for a service ticket for that server would succeed)
Is it possible to tweak settings so that the battery will only charge up to 90% -95% and then use power adapter to run ?
A friend told me he was able to set such limits on his non-mac PC so I was hoping there would be a way to do it. From reading I have done online it appears this is better than having a 100% battery most of the time.
I have an MBP 13" 2012 running latest version of OSX ML(10.8.2).
Currently, every day before I start work, I complete the following procedure:
ssh to the production server
gzip our daily database dump file
scp the gzipped dump file over to my computer
gunzip the dump file
dropdb mydatabase
createdb mydatabase
psql mydatabase < dump.sql
Is it possible (I'm sure it is) to automate this process on Mac OSX? This way it is done by the time I get to work in the morning. If so, what is the quickest and easiest way

The answers here
http://superuser.com/questions/13351/how-to-middle-click-on-new-macbooks
seem to give solutions that work for older versions of OSX, and one works for Snow Leopard.
But none of them seem to work for Leopard.
Does anyone have a solution to generate a true middle click without an external mouse, under Leopard?
There is one big issue for me with Doc in OSX - it does not shows you if more than one window opened in application
For example - I were browsing with firefox and some site opens a background window with some sounds - and I have no idea where it comes from - Dock does not tell you if some application opens more than one window..
Is there a way (or some application) that can add some mark to application icon in Dock if it has more than one window open?
How can you have International Dvorak for Snow Leopard?
I need A with dots dot O with dots for Dvorak.
OSx has four types of Dvoraks, but none of them is Dvorak International like in Debian and many other Linux and BSD distros.
