Visual Studio 2008 SignTool.exe not found

I can't publish in 2008, I was previously using 2005 and it published just fine. Error 2 An error occurred while signing: SignTool.exe not found. I know there are tons of hits for a search on signtool.exe on google. The ones I've found involve copying the file to X,Y,Z locations and ensuring signtool matches up with your VS command prompt path. When I run my start- program files - visual studio 2008 - Visual Studio Tools - Visual Studio Command prompt. and type signtool.exe it finds the file just fine. I have Visual Studio 2005 professional edition, Visual studio 2008 profession edition, Visual studio 2005 SDK February 2007, just installed Visial Studio 2008 SDK1.1 to see if that would fix it, no luck. Visual Studio 2010 Web Deployment

I am trying to use VS2010's 1-Click Publish feature to deploy a test site from my laptop to my server. I have the firewall turned off on both machines and the MS Deployment Service is up and running on both my laptop and the server. However when I try and publish from VS2010 on my laptop I get the following error Error 1 Web deployment task failed.(Remote agent (URL https://192.168.1.181/:8172/msdeploy.axd?site=LocationsTest) could not be contacted. Make sure the remote agent service is installed and started on the target computer.) The requested resource does not exist, or the requested URL is incorrect. Publishing toolchain

Hello all, I have a book project which I'd like to start sooner than later. This would follow an agile-like publishing workflow, i.e: publish early and often. It is meant to be self-publsihed by me and I'm not really looking to paper-publish it, even though we never know. If I weren't a geek, I'd probably have already started writting in Word or any other WYSIWYG tool and just export to PDF. However, we know it is not the best solution, and emacs rules my text-editing life, so, the output format should be as simple as possible and be text-based. I've thought about the following options: 1) Use orgmode and export to PDF; 2) Use markdown mode and export to PDF; 3) Use something similar to what the guys @ Pragmatic Progammers do: A XML + XSLT + LaTeX. More complex, but much more control over the style. Any other ideas / references ? I want to start writting as soon as possible. In fact, I already have a draft in an org-formatted file. However, I do want to have and use the full power of LaTex later on to format it the way I want and make it look fabulous :) Thanks in advance, Marcelo.

How to change TestNG dataProvider order

Hi, I am running hundreds of tests against a large publishing system and would like to paralellize the tests using TestNG. However, I cannot find any easy way of doing this. Each test case instanciates an instance of this publisher, send some messages, wait for those messages to be published, then dump out the contents of the publish queues and compare against expected outcome. Doing this with so many tests (even if I paralellize using threads, still takes a very long time to complete (1 day or more)). We've found that in testing this sort of system, it's best to start up system once, run all tests to send their messages, wait for publish to do its thing, dump all outputs, and match outputs with tests and verify. For example, instead of the following: @Test public void testRule1() { Publisher pub = new Publisher(); pub.sendRule(new Rule("test1-a")); sleep(10); // wait 10 seconds pub.dumpRules(); verifyRule("test1-a"); } We wanted to do something like the following: @Test public void testRule1(bool sendMode) { if(sendMode) { this.pub.sendRule(new Rule("test1-a")); } else { verifyRule("test1-a"); } } Where you have a dataProvider run through all the tests with sendMode = true and then perform dumpAllRules() followed by running through all of the tests again with sendMode = false. The problem is, TestNG calls the same method twice, once with sendMode = true followed by sendMode = false. Is there anyway to accomplish this in TestNG? Thanks!

ClickOnce permissions

We recently updated our main website. This included creating a new directory to hold the new site; then, some of the existing subdirectories needed to be copied over. Some of the virtual directories below the main site are clickonce publishing locations. These have been 100% successful publishing locations for 3 years now. We would update the application in Visual Studio and then publish... painless. Very long story short, since we've copied the directories to the new main site location on disk, all of our clickonce sites except one will no longer publish. They all fail with an error saying "you are not authorized to perform the current operation". This is immeidately after we set permissions to Full Control for my domain user group. I've checked everything I know how to check as far as permissions go and made the non-working ones' permissions match the one that does work, but no joy. We had problems on Friday and I fixed the one site that does work, but I can't remember how I fixed it; all I remember is that it took a long time screwing with it to make it work. Could there be some arcane setting in IIS that has been omitted? Is there a simple list of things to check anywhere on the Net? ClickOnce information is scattered among 50,000 URLs and I haven't been able to figure it out again. Thanks

WCF RIA Silverlight deployment issues

It seems the world is awash with people having problems deploying RIA WCF services, and now I'm one too. I've already tried a bunch of things, but to no avail. I need WCF RIA to support a Silverlight 3 application I've built. The short story is, using the new WCF RIA services (Nov 09?) I open VS 2008, create new project (silverlight application), enabling ".NET RIA services". Add new item to web project - Linq2SQL dbml file (from SQL 2005 DB prepared earlier) and compile. I add a new item to the web project - domain service (link the tables I need) and compiled. Using the domain context I "Load" data with a standard RIA get query in the MainPage and add a TextBlock to display returned data. Build & run (cassini) - success. Using VS to publish to IIS on local PC - success. Using VS to publish to test server (IIS6) - browse to location and the Silverlight app loads but Fiddler tells me I've got a 404 on all the the WCF .svc requests. Use Fiddler to "launch IE" on the service request and it's true - 404. I have already run aspnet_regiis, ServiceModelReg and added mime types for .xap, .xaml, .xbap and .svc. I have included the System.Web.Ria and System.Web.DomainServices DLL with copy local true. I need help with either a) a solution b) an approach to find a solution

Facebook JS API: How to get FB.Connect.streamPublish to use auto_publish

I'm trying to publish stuff to someone's wall. It works, but I'm also trying to use the auto_publish feature so the user will only get one popup granting the publish_stream extended permission. So I set streamPublish's auto_publish to true, but I still get the popup asking me if I want to publish and/or edit the message. What am I doing wrong? resolving overloads in boost.python

I have a C++ class like this: class ConnectionBase { public: ConnectionBase(); template <class T> Publish(const T&); private: virtual void OnEvent(const Overload_a&) {} virtual void OnEvent(const Overload_b&) {} }; My templates & overloads are a known fixed set of types at compile time. The application code derives from ConnectionBase and overrides OnEvent for the events it cares about. I can do this because the set of types is known. OnEvent is private because the user never calls it, the class creates a thread that calls it as a callback. The C++ code works. I have wrapped this in boost.python, I can import it and publish from python. I want do create the equivalent of the following in python : class ConnectionDerived { public: ConnectionDerived(); private: virtual void OnEvent(const Overload_b&) { // application code } }; But ... since python isn't typed, and all the boost.python examples I've seen dealing with internals are on the C++ side, I'm a little puzzled as to how to do this. How do I override specific overloads?

Can the Flash CS4 [embed] tag be made to export assets to frame 2 rather than frame 1?

We're working on a Flash CS4 project where the main .fla file has ballooned in size and 'Publish' is taking forever. I suspect a large amount of the size (and at least some of the compile time) is due to the quantity of audio symbols in the library. I would love to remove this unnecessary bloat from the .fla file. I've experimented with removing an audio symbol from the library and using the [embed] metadata tag instead, like so: [Embed(source="audio/music/EndOfLevelDitty.mp3")] public var EndOfLevelDitty:Class The resulting published file works perfectly, but there is a problem. Our game uses a preloader on the first frame of the timeline, so all other classes need to be exported in frame 2 (as set in Publish Settings ActionScript 3.0 Settings). So a size report normally begins like this: Frame # Frame Bytes Total Bytes Scene ------- ----------- ----------- ---------------- 1 284515 284515 Scene 1 2 5485305 5769820 (AS 3.0 Classes Export Frame) However, if I use an [embed] tag on a small sound, my size report is now: Frame # Frame Bytes Total Bytes Scene ------- ----------- ----------- ---------------- 1 363320 363320 Scene 1 2 5407240 5770560 (AS 3.0 Classes Export Frame) As you can see, the embedded sound has been exported into frame 1 rather than frame 2. If I were to embed all sounds in this manner, the size of frame 1 would grow to be huge, and users would be looking at a white screen for ages before the preloader frame even loaded. So my question is this: can I use an [embed] tag but have the embedded asset export in frame 2 instead of frame 1? Project constraints: Our team composition means we can't change to pure Flex at this stage. The compiled .swf needs to be 'all in one', so we can't split the preloader into a separate file, and we can't access external resources. Edit: I'd also settle for having the audio in an embedded library SWC, but there seems to be no way to make that embed in frame 2 either; it always ends up in frame 1.

Creating and publishing exel file in MOSS 2007 using data from SQL sever.

Hello, I need help in this matter: We have a template of exel file in which all calculations are already set. User can request a 'report'. Idea is to create a button on our site (SharePoint portal). After clicking on it a new exel file is generated. This means to get actual data from database (SQL server 2005 SP2), import them into template, let all calculations to generate proper data and then allow user to see this file. For now it's enough to publish final exel file in document library. I am quite new in WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007 and I need some advice in what can be the best solution. Looks like a quite complex task for me. Is there some direct way how to accomplish this? Or maybe I need one tool to get data from database and to import this data into exel file (SSRS?) and other tool to publish it in document library (MOSS7 Exel services?). I heard something about PerformancePoint Server 2007, is this a way to follow? Thanks forward for any advice!

PubSubHubBub Hubs

Hi, I'm currently building a live web application based upon the PubSubHubBub protocol. However, I encountered several issues. First, I'm in search of a hub application that I can run on my server. There are several applications, but most of them are not mature yet, or they don't support the 0.3 spec. The official google hub runs on the Google App Engine and can even be executed locally. Unfortunately, "Tasks will not run automatically. Push the 'Run' button to execute each task." This behaviour is useful for debugging and understanding the workflow, but in some live tests, it would be nice not to invoke all tasks manually. Is there a way to tweak the local app engine due automatically run tasks? Next, I have a question concerning the spec itself. The Google reference implementation provides the initial publish method bound to the outpoint uri + /publish. But this is not reflected in the specs. So are there any mature hubs that can be run locally for debugging? Or are there ways to configure the offical google app engine hub to run locally and to execute tasks directly? Thanks in advance

How to post a poll on the Facebook wall

Hi, I'm trying to convert my poll app into a Facebook iframe app. My app is written in PHP and uses some Ajax calls to vote at a poll. In the application canvas everything is working fine, but of course I want to get the poll on the wall of a user too. Unfortunately I'm not able to find out how I can post a simple poll with some radio buttons for the options on the wall. I know how to publish images, text, audio files and links to the wall, but I have no idea how to publish my poll on the wall. And I don't just want to use links to vote, I want the user be able to choose a radio button. Does anyone have an idea how to do this or where to find information about doing this? I'm stuck there now for a while and it gets pretty frustrating. I'm using the new Graph API by the way. Or is this impossible? But I don't think so. Any help is appreciated. Bengt

Easy bidirectional communication via P2P NetStream

I've been looking into the P2P support in Flash 10, using Adobe Stratus service. I have successfully been able to send data from one user to another, put my problem is that I haven't figured out how to send data back in some easy way (or as some kind of response to the first call). What I'm currently doing; First set up a connection with Stratus service nc = new NetConnection(); nc.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, ncStatusHandler); nc.connect(APPLICATION_URL + DEVELOPER_KEY); On the "server" side I do: sendStream = new NetStream(nc, NetStream.DIRECT_CONNECTIONS); sendStream.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, sendStreamHandler); sendStream.publish("file"); And on the "client" side: // remoteFileID.text is manually copied by the user from the server (which is nc.nearID). recvStream = new NetStream(nc, remoteFileID.text); recvStream.client = this; recvStream.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, recvStreamHandler); recvStream.play("file"); Then I call a remote function on the client: ... sendStream.send("aRemoteFunction", parameterData); ... Now my problem; I want to do the same from the client to the server, to notify that everything went well, or something failed. From what I understand, I will have to setup a new NetStream from the client to the server (i.e publish on the client and play on the server). But to accomplish this, the server need to know the nc.nearID on the client. Is it possible to get that ID without forcing the user to manually copy it from the client to server? Or, is there an easier way for the client to talk back to the server that I am missing?

item-not-found(404) when trying to get a node using Smackx pubsub

I'm trying to use the latest Smackx trunk to get and then subscribe to a pubsub node. However, openfire just sends me a back an error: item not found (404). I am instantiating the java objects from ColdFusion, so my code snippets might look funny but maybe someone will be able to tell me what I've forgotten. I have verified that the nodes are being created by checking the DB used by my openfire server. I can see them in there, properly attributed as leaf nodes, etc. Any advice? Anyone else out there doing anything with XMPP and ColdFusion? I have had great success sending and receiving messages with CF and Smack just haven't had the pubsub working yet :) Thanks!

Auto-resolving a hostname in WCF Metadata Publishing

I am running a self-hosted WCF service. In the service configuration, I am using localhost in my BaseAddresses that I hook my endpoints to. When trying to connect to an endpoint using the WCF test client, I have no problem connecting to the endpoint and getting the metadata using the machine's name. The problem that I run into is that the client that is generated from metadata uses localhost in the endpoint URLs it wants to connect to. I'm assuming that this is because localhost is the endpoint URL published by metadata. As a result, any calls to the methods on the service will fail since localhost on the calling machine isn't running the service. What I would like to figure out is if it is possible for the service metadata to publish the proper URL to a client depending on the client who is calling it. For example, if I was requesting the service metadata from a machine on the same network as the server the endpoint should be net.tcp://MYSERVER:1234/MyEndpoint. If I was requesting it from a machine outside the network, the URL should be net.tcp://MYSERVER.mydomain.com:1234/MyEndpoint. And obviously if the client was on the same machine, THEN the URL could be net.tcp://localhost:1234/MyEndpoint. Is this just a flaw in the default IMetadataExchange contract? Is there some reason the metadata needs to publish the information in a non-contextual way? Is there another way I should be configuring my BaseAddresses in order to get the functionality I want? Imagine developing a WCF solution with two projects (WCF Service/ and web application as WCF Client). As long as I'm developing these two projects in visual studio and referencing service to client (Web Application) as server reference there is no problem. Visual studio automatically assign a port for WCF server and configure all needed configuration including Server And Client binging to something like this in server: <service behaviorConfiguration="DefaultServiceBehavior" name="MYWCFProject.MyService"> <endpoint address="" binding="wsHttpBinding" contract="MYWCFProject.IMyService"> <identity> <dns value="localhost" /> </identity> </endpoint> <host> <baseAddresses> <add baseAddress="http://localhost:8731/MyService.svc" /> </baseAddresses> </host> </service> and in client: <client> <endpoint address="http://localhost:8731/MyService.svc" binding="wsHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="WSHttpBinding_IMyService" contract="MyWCFProject.IMyService" name="WSHttpBinding_IMyService"> <identity> <dns value="localhost" /> </identity> </endpoint> </client> The problem is I want to frequently publish this two project in two different servers as my production servers and Service url will be "http://mywcfdomain/MyService.svc". I don't want to change config file every time I publish my server project. The question is: is there any feature in Visual Studio 2008 to automatically change the URLs or I have to define two different endpoints and I set them within my code (based on a parameter in my configuration for example Development/Published).

EOFException in ObjectInputStream Only happens with Webstart not by java(w).exe ?!

Hi, Anyone familiar with the differences in starting with Webstart(javaws.exe) compared to starting the app. using java.exe or javaw.exe regarding streams ? how to return a list using SwingWorker

I have an assignment where i have to create an Image Gallery which uses a SwingWorker to load the images froma a file, once the image is load you can flip threw the image and have a slideshow play. I am having trouble getting the list of loaded images using SwingWorker. This is what happens in the background it just publishes the results to a TextArea // In a thread @Override public List<Image> doInBackground() { List<Image> images = new ArrayList<Image>(); for (File filename : filenames) { try { //File file = new File(filename); System.out.println("Attempting to add: " + filename.getAbsolutePath()); images.add(ImageIO.read(filename)); publish("Loaded " + filename); System.out.println("Added file" + filename.getAbsolutePath()); } catch (IOException ioe) { publish("Error loading " + filename); } } return images; } } when it is done I just insert the images in a List<Image> and that is all it does. // In the EDT @Override protected void done() { try { for (Image image : get()) { list.add(image); } } catch (Exception e) { } } Also I created an method that returns the list called getImages() what I need to get is the list from getImages() but doesn't seam to work when I call execute() for example MySwingWorkerClass swingworker = new MySwingWorkerClass(log,list,filenames); swingworker.execute(); imageList = swingworker.getImage() Once it reaches the imageList it doesn't return anything the only way I was able to get the list was when i used the run() instead of the execute() is there another way to get the list or is the run() method the only way?. or perhaps i am not understanding the Swing Worker Class.

I have followed this article and implemented my service and I can open the web browser and see the test data being published. I would like to create a custom formatted response, as for my needs this will not be published to the internet and it's an isolated feed that other devices on the local network could read to get the data I'm publishing. I'd like to create an XML document and publish it instead of using the SyndicationItem that is being used in the article to display title, author, description, etc. Would like to create something simple to be published: <MyData> <ID>33883</ID> <Title>The Name</Title> <Artist>The Artist</Artist> </MyData> I know how to create that in an XMLWriter, but how to publish in a SyndicationFeedFormatter that is the return type for the function in the article? I have seen the XmlSyndicationContent class but haven't seen any practical examples that would accomplish what I want to do.
