• Does the Quick Search Box search the database in Android? how?

Else i want to put a separate EditText and then do the the search process.. if QSB is possible then how to do that? i want to search and drop a pin on the map.. please make a note of it.   In Windows 8 and Windows RT you can right-click in the bottom-left corner to access a menu of commonly used desktop links. You can access the same menu with the keyboard using Windows+X. Is there a way to access this menu using touch? I have a Surface RT and have tried a number of gestures in the corner (e.g., press and hold, swipe down) on both the Desktop and the Start Screen without any luck.

• Is There Anyway to Undo a Quick Initialize from a Perc6/i VD?

  I stupidly fast initialized an existing Raid 5 Array Virtual disk with 10 Virtual Machines after creating a new Raid 5 Array. The VDs switched order on the list of the Perc Controller. My server is a PowerEdge R710 with a Perc 6/i Raid controller running ESXi 5.1. The Bios of the R710 and the Perc 6/i controller are both running the latest firmware. I tried the steps on this article: http://www.caseyfulton.com/dell-perc-6i-fast-initialize-how-to-restore/. However the BartPE just freezes on the Windows XP slapsh page. Does anybody know a full proof method? I have backups of the VMs, however I would like to avoid restoring all of them due to time constraint.

  I absolutely lived on the ' shortcut in Firefox, which allows you to do a find that applies to text links, and it focuses on them so you can hit Enter and proceed to that link. Chrome only has ctrl-f which focuses on links as well, but you have to ESC out and then hit Enter, which is not as immediate as the Firefox shortcut. Is anyone aware of a Chrome shortcut that replicates this functionality? Or is there some hidden shortcut/key that does this in Chrome which I'm simply unaware of?

• Is there a quick way to create a Windows shortcut to a file without it validating the path?

  Trying to create a shortcut for someone else. It needs to point to files on one of their mapped drives. Instead of waiting for them to be available and create the shortcut on their PC, I was hoping to just create the shortcut on my PC and then transfer it over to their PC. However Windows tries to validate the path as you create the shortcut and since I don't have access to the same files it is throwing up an error and won't create the shortcut. Is there a way to create a shortcut without the path being validated?

• Quick-n-Easy way to remove outdated ActiveDirectory users?

  We have around 70 current employees, but 178 accounts in ActiveDirectory. The prior administrators never removed old accounts, and sometimes they weren't even disabled. As it is, I am considering manually reviewing each account to determine if it can be removed. Is there an easier way to remove accounts based on a condition? Such as, remove (or at least disable or flag in some way) users that haven't logged in within the last month or so?

Is there some tool available that can index the contents of the whole registry, or contents of a single hive, such that fast lookups are available? (for example generating some SQLite database with FTS3 or FTS4 enabled for full text search) Thank you. PS. I don't want RegScanner or tools that perform a new, linear search every time. • Quick and dirty user management service for Linux VMs?

  Background I have a home server running Debian, and a workstation that runs various VirtualBox VMs (mostly Linuxen but some Windows). At the moment, I'm creating my main user account anew for every new Linux VM. I'd like to make use of a centralized user-management scheme instead, so I can just configure the new VMs for the directory technology and let them handle user lookups automatically. The last time I worked with anything like this, NIS+ was still in fashion. I have a vague notion of what LDAP and Active Directory are, but no knowledge of how to configure them for what I want. Question What user-management/network-directory technology should I use for providing user accounts to my network? The server must run on Debian Lenny. Client configuration should be simple point-at-server-and-go. I need an example configuration for one sample user account. (nice-to-have) I may want to mount the user's home directory from the server. (nice-to-have) The same configuration works with Windows clients.

• What is a quick way to access chrome extensions?

  I'm trying to switch from Firefox to Chrome, so trying to get up to speed with the interface. I have installed some Chrome extensions such as World Clock. To access it I have to: click wrench click tools click extensions on world clock, click "options" click save" and then I can use it. What am I missing here, there must be an easier way. Is there a way to just click something and have all my extensions in a dropdown, i.e. in one click? I couldn't find this on a list of chrome hotkeys.

  Actually the matter grown from SE using. It's quite bothering to: right click on rss link, choose "copy", then swich to tunderbird, right click on rss folder, choose "subscribe", push "Add", insert, ok. I'd prefer to: right click on rss link and choose the rss folder. The second motive for the question is that I'd like to look at implementation of interprocess manipulation of thunderbird. May be there is not exactly but something similar exist.

  Im trying to obtain a list of users with their login time (n times if they have logged in more than once) in a particular timespan, for example between 2pm and 3pm on 10/10/2012. I've been fiddling around with powershell, but couldn't get much out of it, downloaded the PowerShell extensions from Quest, tried out some snippets, but I couldn't find something that fits my needs. My guess is to query the events on the Active Directory server but haven't been able to get a snippet that works so far.

  I'm running a Small Business Server 2008 with Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0 (WSS 3.0). I thought WSS was supposed to hide menu items for which the current logged in user don't have access? Apparently, all users can see all links, regardless of whether they have access. This applies to both links to newly created sub-sites as well as document libraries/lists. Is this expected behaviour, or is there a misconfiguration somewhere that causes the links to stay visible even for users without access? Thanks!

• Is is possible to guide installation of new programs using %ProgramFiles%? [closed]

  The purpose of this is to have the default "program files" (32 and 64 bit) folders located under an arbitrary path, possibly on a drive separate from where windows lives. Initially I thought that this may be done using a system environment variable through the dialog located under Control Panel - System - Advanced - Environment Variables. These variables turned out to be set in the registry under the key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion. However, one particular entry is confusing. The ProgramFilesPath entry seems to point at an environment variable that is not defined under the same registry key. I could assume that the difference between ProgramFilesDir and ProgramFilesPath is none and that one of them exists as a backwards compatibility, but having some legitimate resource from Microsoft to look at would be better than guessing. After receiving some worrying feedback about having both 32 and 64bit applications in the same folder, I have decided not to ask about the feasibility of this to avoid discussion. The real question is if the desired effect is possible to attain by "cutting into" the windows setup process and modifying those registry entries as early as possible. These settings should be system wide and not only for software installed by a particular user. If this is indeed something that can be done, I wonder if there are any subtle pitfalls. Programs that expect libraries and other resources to be in default locations can probably be dealt with using the same technique as employed by Windows to re-map the "Documents and Settings" folders and the like (i.e. breaking legacy applications is not real concern).

• A "quick" vector editor (SVG) for Linux (for annotating images?)

  I often need to take a bitmap (.png) image, and draw some lines or text on top of it, and possibly export a new, thusly "annotated" image. I know I can basically do all this in inkscape - but inkscape is a complex program, and it needs almost a minute to start up properly on my PCs. So I was thinking - is there something like a "mini" vector editor for Linux, which would start up fast, and allow me to: Right-click, open an image in this editor program The program scales the active "document"/"window size" to the size of the image I can zoom in/zoom out (and possibly crop) the image I can add at least lines, boxes and text in different colors? A bonus for me would be to have the overlay graphics saved as SVG format, say with the same filename as the image - as in, "image.png.svg" being saved in the same directory where the original "image.png" is located (thus allowing opening and editing these "annotations" further, either in this editor, or possibly in inkscape). And another bonus would be the export of the annotated image to a bitmap. Anyone know about anything like this?

• MySQL Full-Text Search Across Multiple Tables - Quick/Long Solution?

  Hello all, I have been doing a bit of research on full-text searches as we realized a series of LIKE statements are terrible. My first find was MySQL full-text searches. I tried to implement this and it worked on one table, failed when I was trying to join multiple tables, and so I consulted stackoverflow's articles (look at the end for a list of the ones I've been to) I didn't see anything that clearly answered my questions. I'm trying to get this done literally in an hour or two (quick solution) but I also want to do a better long term solution. Here is my query: SELECT a.`product_id`, a.`name`, a.`slug`, a.`description`, b.`list_price`, b.`price`, c.`image`, c.`swatch`, e.`name` AS industry FROM `products` AS a LEFT JOIN `website_products` AS b ON (a.`product_id` = b.`product_id`) LEFT JOIN ( SELECT `product_id`, `image`, `swatch` FROM `product_images` WHERE `sequence` = 0) AS c ON (a.`product_id` = c.`product_id`) LEFT JOIN `brands` AS d ON (a.`brand_id` = d.`brand_id`) INNER JOIN `industries` AS e ON (a.`industry_id` = e.`industry_id`) WHERE b.`website_id` = 96 AND b.`status` = 1 AND b.`active` = 1 AND MATCH( a.`name`, a.`sku`, a.`description`, d.`name` ) AGAINST ( 'ashley sofa' ) GROUP BY a.`product_id` ORDER BY b.`sequence` LIMIT 0, 9 The error I get is: Incorrect arguments to MATCH If I remove d.name from the MATCH statement it works. I have a full-text index on that column. I saw one of the articles say to use an OR MATCH for this table, but won't that lose the effectiveness of being able to rank them together or match them properly? Other places said to use UNIONs but I don't know how to do that properly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. In the idea of a long term solution it seems that either Sphinx or Lucene is best. Now by no means and I a MySQL guru, and I heard that Lucene is a bit more complicated to setup, any recommendations or directions would be great. • Where can I find a quick reference for standard Basic?

  The reason? Pure nostalgia. Anyway, there was a standard for Basic that was published in the late 80s or early 90s. It was probably ISO/IEC 10279:1991, but I don't have access to that and cannot be sure. Whatever this standard was, some of the syntax made its way into Borlands Turbo Basic and Microsofts Visual Basic. I never learned any significant amount of VB, but Turbo Basic is one of those things I played with in my mis-spent youth. At one time, my main reference was an article published in one of the main programming periodicals - maybe Personal Computer World, maybe Byte. A scan of that article (if anyone can even identify it) would be great, but all I really want is a few pages quick reference of that standard syntax. Must be free (I'm not that nostalgic), but it must describe the standard syntax - the whole point is to sort out what is standard as opposed to VB or whatever. EDIT The more I think about this, the more convinced I am that this standard was available around 1987 or 1988. Maybe it was the earlier non-full version of the standard above, or maybe it was pre-acceptance of the standard.

• What's a good plugin or guide I can use to create javascript widgets from a Rails App?

  I've been looking around for a while now and the best guide I've seen so far is Dr Nic's DIY widgets how to (here). I haven't been able to make something like this work: Assuming this is my widget code: <script src="http://mysite/nomnoms.js"> </script> And my nomnoms controller looks like (assume that the list partial exists and simply lists down a link to the show page of each nomnom in the @nomnoms variable): class NomnomsController < ApplicationController def index @nomnoms = Nomnom.find(:all) @content = render_to_string(:partial => 'list') end end And in the index.js of my nomnoms_controller I have: page << "document.write('<div>'" page << "document.write('#{@content.to_json}')" page << "</div>" The above setup doesn't render anything :(. But when I change the second line of index.js to: page << "document.write('nomnoms should be here') ...the widget renders the text. Any help or even a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have idea of how I will do validations before setting value. but not getting what to do if passed value is not correct. Just not setting is not a acceptable solution as I want to return an appropriate message to user (in a label in web form).   Does anybody know of a diff-like tool that can show me the changes between two text files, but ignore changes in whitespace including newlines? Here's an example: the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy bear. the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy bear. the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy bear. the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy bear. quick brown fox jumped over the lazy bear. the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy bear. the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy bear. the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy bear. All I did was delete one word and reflow it, but "diff -b" detects a change on every line (as it should; I'm not saying this is a bug in diff). But for large LaTeX files this is a major problem; change one word in a long paragraph and the diff you get back is basically useless. By the way, I'm aware that this requires way more computational power than the usual lines-are-atomic diff. I'm only doing this on small human-generated files and am happy to wait a long time if I have to.
