• Jobs with anacron won't run

  I would like to run two bash scripts daily using anacron in order to backup some data. Unfortunately I can't figure out why said scripts are not executed. For test purposes I let cron execute the scripts and it worked fine. cat /etc/anacrontab gives # /etc/anacrontab: configuration file for anacron # See anacron(8) and anacrontab(5) for details.   I have a Squid proxy server that controls all internet traffic for my network. I need a way to stop users from downloading big files (say 50MB) in my network. I banned some famous ports (e.g. torrent) but some downloads are possible by HTTP port. Obviously I cannot ban port 80! A simple solution is limiting maxmimum number of the simultaneous connections for each IP (e.g. 3 connections). It's possible in Squid with this config: acl ACCOUNTSDEPT 192.168.5.0/24 acl limitusercon maxconn 3 http_access deny ACCOUNTSDEPT limitusercon But this solution has really bad impact in web browsing, because any smart browser get different parts of a website by several connections simultaneously to speedup web browsing. But if we have a maximum number of connections, the browsers will fail to get some parts and the website will be shown partially and some parts/images/frames will not be shown. So, can we limit maximum number of persist connections? I think this policy will works: Specify Maximum number of connections that is alive for 10 seconds But Number of simultaneous connections for every IP is unlimited But how can we implement this policy when Squid? With which config? UPDATE: artifex and Tom Newton offered using a bandwidth-limiting approach to fight against downloaders. But bandwidth-limiting in Squid has a shortcoming: It's static and cannot dynamically change. So a person has a limited bandwidth not matter how many people are using internet (maybe nobody!) Also, this solution cannot help to stop people from downloading. They still can download but in a lower speed. But if we find a way to terminate persist connections (or any connection that is alive more than a specific time), downloading big files will be almost impossible (always there is some way!)

• How to take screenshots of WPF applications in correct size and content

  I usually take screenshots of single windows via the built-in key combination Alt+Print. Unfortunately this does not work well for more and more applications - all of them are WPF applications. Usually the screen shots have at least one of the following properties: the screenshot is larger than expected and contains parts of the screen around the actual window the screenshot has the correct size but includes parts of other windows, e.g. the Windows task bar. Of course the task bar might be in front of the window, but taking screen shots of "normal" programs works fine. How do I take screenshots of WPF application which are correct in size and content? I'd like to avoid the extra effort of checking all the screenshots for correctness, reproducing the situation, taking them again in case of issues or repairing/faking them manually in any pixel manipulation program (e.g. Paint.NET). I observe this on Windows 7 x64 SP 1, all official updates installed, but it might apply to other Windows versions as well (not tested yet). .NET 4.5 is installed. The application itself might only need the built-in .NET 3.5.1. It's reproducible on a virtual machine with the same settings. Examples: Screenshot of an application running in maximized mode. The screen shot includes parts of the task bar. Screenshot of a progress dialog which is behind the task bar. The screenshot also includes the task bar, while it doesn't for non WPF applications.

• How can I load style resources from a dynamically loaded Silverlight application (XAP)?

  I've followed Tim Heuer's video for dynamically loading other XAP's (into a 'master' Silverlight application), as well as some other links to tweak the loading of resources and am stuck on the particular issue of loading style resources from within the dynamically loaded XAP (i.e. the contents of Assets\Styles.xaml). When I run the master/hosting applcation, it successfully streams the dynamic XAP and I can read the deployment info etc. and load the assembly parts. However, when I actuall try to create an instance of a form from the Dynamic XAP, it fails with Cannot find a Resource with the Name/Key LayoutRootGridStyle which is in it's Assets\Styles.xaml file (it works if I run it directly so I know it's OK). For some reason these don't show up as application resources - not sure if I've totally got the wrong end of the stick, or am just missing something? Is there a recipe for zc.buildout that downloads a tarball and installs it via easy_install or similar?

  I recently switched out log4net logging from using config files to being set up programmatically. This has resulted in the nhiberate entries getting repeated 2 or sometimes 3 times. Here's the code.   Hi I have a special requirement for one of my applications where I need the servers nounce (Handshaker.srv_random) when verifying the client certificate. Yet JSSEs X509TrustManager only passes me the certificate, no other information of the handshake. I have located the place, where checkClientTrusted is called (inside ServerHandshaker) and it would be easy to extend it to also allow some X509CustomTrustManager to be called with all required information. Yet this would require me to recompile JSSE... I also found jsse sources in openjdk. Now for my questions: What is the easiest way to compile jsse from openjdk? Can the resulting jsse.jar be used as a replacement for the (original) sun jre as a replacement for the included jsse.jar? Is there another (more standard compliant) way to archive what I am trying to do? I did not find a hook to use my own handshaker... Regards, Steffen

  I just recently learned of SVN's auto-versioning feature for WebDAV. Although I understand this is not replacement for proper versioning, with messages documenting change sets, it strikes me as a solid and safe replacement to Dropbox (minus nice GUIs and web pages). However, since commits in auto-versioning are frequent, I'd imagine that Git or Hg would be better suited for this, just because of their more compact databases (although I wonder if the distributed nature of things could make the automation ugly for resolving conflicts). Is this a feature that has been implemented using Git or Hg, as far as anyone knows?

  My new phone does not recognize a phone number unless it's area code matches the incoming call. Since I live in Idaho where an area code is not needed for in-state calls, many of my contacts were saved without an area code. Since I have thousands of contacts stored in my phone, it would not be practical to manually update them. I decided to write the following PHP script to handle the problem.   I'm having an annoying :) I use regexes from this: http://forums.codecharge.com/posts.php?post_id=77123 if you enter [url]www.bob.com[/url] it leads too http://localhost/test/www.bobsbar.com So I added before http://$1 in the replacement. That fix it but then [url]http://www.bob.com[/url] will lead to http://http://www.bobsbar.com How would you fix this? I want my users to be able to post links with AND without http:// and i want it to redirect to the site -_- Hope you understand this. I do not want that. I want to use pattern for matching but also for creating strings same way as with string format, replacing named group "ID" with value. Is that possible? I'm looking for something like: string pattern = "^(?<PREFIX>abc_)(?<ID>[0-9])+(?<POSTFIX>_def)$"; string result = ReplaceWithFormat(pattern, "ID", 999); Result will contain "abc_999_def". How to accomplish this?

• Opening AFOpenFlowView already in landscape mode

  I'm using the open source CoverFlow replacement from here: http://fajkowski.com/blog/2009/08/02/openflow-a-coverflow-api-replacement-for-the-iphone/ When I detect that a certain view has gone from portrait to landscape mode, I instantiate an AFCoverFlowView and push it onto the navigation stack. If I do so in response to (void)didRotateFromInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)fromInterfaceOrientation The cover flow view comes up as though the phone were still in portrait mode. If I push the view in response to (void)willRotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)fromInterfaceOrientation it works perfectly - the view comes up in landscape mode with the phone in landscape mode Unfortunately, the device doesn't reliable get willRotateToInterfaceOrientation messages. I have tried making sure that [[UIDevice currentDevice] beginGeneratingDeviceOrientationNotifications]; is in loadView but that doesn't help with the notificiations. So, my questions are: Is there a way to reliably get willRotateToInterfactOrientation? if not How do I instruct AFCoverFlowView to come up in landscape mode (if the device is already in landscape mode)

As we all know the C preprocessor replaces all the occurrence of the identifiers with the replacement-string. Considering the above example I would like to know how many times the C preprocessor traverses the program to replace the macro with the replacement values. I assume it cannot be done in one go.
