Windows Updates settings issue!

Hi, it's my first post here, don't wanna make it long, but I got a problem with my 'Windows Update' it won't show its setting's options. It only shows these settings: Important Updates, Recommended Updates and Who can install updates, it removed the other setting sections like 'Microsoft Updates' "Give me updates for Microsoft products and check for new optional Microsoft software when I update windows" or the last settings section 'Software notification' "Show me detailed notifications when new Microsoft software is available" Here's a screenshot of my Windows Update: http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/1963/windowsupdatescreenshot.png And here's how it was before and how should be: h**p://www.sevenforums.com/attachments/tutorials/3523d1242168648-windows-update-settings-change-wu_settings.jpg Thanks. Pulling application updates from closest server?

Setup: 6 Major Sites with Server 2003/2008 DCs doing DHCP/AD Integrated DNS, each on their own subnet. All connect back to datacenter through a 3 mbps WAN ERP server running in the datacenter, accessed by clients at all sites Currently, when we update the software, I manually push a copy of the updated client/config files down to each DC. I have a script that we run on each PC to update the clients. It determines what subnet the PC is on, and pulls the software from that DC. It's messy, but it works. The client has an autoupdate feature, but it'll only pull from the application server (which is housed in the datacenter, over the 3 meg link). It takes forever, since the updates are not "patches" but a full version of the client, even for minor upgrades (bad design). After the most recent patch, you can configure the clients to pull from a different server. Unfortunately, it is the same for all clients. Is there some kind of DNS magic I can use to pull from the local server? For instance, if I tell the clients their update server is ERPUPDATE, can I have their local DNS server return a different IP for ERPUPDATE than the other sites? Example: Client 1 is at site A, client 2 is at site b. They each run the software and a version change is detected. As per the config files, the clients look to ERPUPDATE for their updated client. Client 1 queries DNS for the IP of ERPUPDATE at its current location (site A) DNS at site A returns 192.1.1.5 Client 1 pulls update from 192.1.1.5 Client 2 queries DNS for the IP of ERPUPDATE at its current location (site B) DNS at site B returns 192.1.2.5 Client 2 pulls update from 192.1.2.5 Excuse the poor explanation, I worked 61 hours over the weekend and haven't completely rebounded. I'll be happy to clarify if needed!

My Local Fileshare ClickOnce Update Is Not Working, Help?

I have a C# application that I'm trying to get to update automatically via ClickOnce. After publishing newer versions of software, I see the new versions in my publish folder, but when I open the application, it checks for updates, and does nothing (even though there are new files in the publish folder). What do I need in place for updates to be made automatically? Edit What version of Visual Studio are you using? Visual Studio 2008 Are you deploying the upgrades to the same location as the old version? They are being published to the same location (not sure about deployed) Is the installation URL the same? Have you incremented the version number? Yes In the Updates dialog reached by clicking the Updates button in the Publish page, do you have "The application should check for updates" checked? ubuntu 12.04 not responding after software update

Yesterday, I did a software update and since then the system became unusable. To be more precise, I login and then I see only the background image without any bars, images etc.. This happened after updating the system. Please find here the relevant part /var/log/apt/history.log. I'm running 64 bit 12.04 distribution on nVidia. The 2-3 first restarts after the upgrade it was complaining about compiz/unity crashes and then the situation is as described above. I would be the most grateful of you could help me on this. Can't (re)Install VLC (removed by update{again})

I use VLC a lot, And When 2.0 came out Ubuntu did not update to that version, the REPO had the older version even months later, So I added the daily repo: http://ppa.launchpad.net/videolan/stable-daily/ubuntu and that worked for a while, after a few months later I received a 'Distribution upgrade' and when I installed it, it removed VLC. when I tried to re-install it gave me a bunch of unmet dependency's, so I disabled the source, ran apt-get update, and tried to install the older VLC, that did not work either. Update Error: Require Installation Of Untrusted Packages

I have googled and found out Updates don't install because of "untrusted packages". It didn't fixed the error. So, how do I fix my GUI update? Updated sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade < working The following packages will be upgraded: ambiance-colors radiance-colors 2 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. Need to get 5,029 kB of archives. After this operation, 7,614 kB of additional disk space will be used. Do you want to continue [Y/n]? y WARNING: The following packages cannot be authenticated! ambiance-colors radiance-colors Install these packages without verification [y/N]? Working but when I update from GUI or try to install software from Ubuntu Software Center I got same error as shown in above picture. For every software I have to install it from command line because I got same error when install software from Ubuntu Software Center.

apt-get update very slow, stuck at "Waiting for headers"

I have looked at similar questions: Stuck at 0% [waiting for headers] (apt) apt-get update stuck on "Waiting for Headers" However neither one of them answer my problem. I am running 12.04 AMD64 and have recently started getting an issue that when I update my repos from my connection at home through a terminal, using sudo apt-get update, it takes forever (literally after 2 hours it was at 28%), however when I run from a different location it takes less than 5 minutes to complete. I have attempted changing which mirror I use but that does not solve the issue. I have also cut down what is in my sources list but this also makes no difference. There are no faults on my ADSL line as I have already contacted my ISP to check this. It also makes no difference if I use a WiFi or network cable connection. What could be my issue? A speed test (www.speedtest.net) comes out at about 0.9 Mbps down and 0.42 Mbps up (which is a shade under the advertised line speed), I reside in South Africa and use the UCT LEG server. But I have also tried the other mirrors available in SA....none of them make a difference.

Q: I have installed Java for OS X 2012-006 and Apple Java 6 can no longer be used for applets or Web Start. How do I get it back? A: The Java for OS X 2012-006 update from Apple uninstalls the Apple-provided Java applet plug-in from all web browsers. You can download the latest version of Java from Oracle, which has improved security, reliability and compatibility. If you prefer to continue using Apple's Java 6 plug-in, you can follow the steps provided in How to re-enable the Apple-provided Java SE 6 applet plug-in and Web Start functionality. Q: After installing Java for OS X 2012-006, can I continue to use Apple's Java 6 alongside the OS X JDK or JRE for Java 7? A: If you want to continue to develop with Java 6 in a Terminal window you can modify the startup script for your favorite command environment. For bash, use this: export JAVA_HOME=`/usr/libexec/java_home -v 1.6` Some applications use /usr/bin/java to invoke Java. After installing Java for OS X 2012-006, /usr/bin/java will find the newest JDK installed, and will use that for all of the Java related command line tools in /usr/bin. You may need to modify those applications to find Java 6, or contact the developer for a newer version of the application. How to update entity states and animations in a component-based game

I'm trying to design a component-based entity system for learning purposes (and later use on some games) and I'm having some troubles when it comes to updating entity states. I don't want to have an update() method inside the Component to prevent dependencies between Components. What I currently have in mind is that components hold data and systems update components. So, if I have a simple 2D game with some entities (e.g. player, enemy1, enemy 2) that have Transform, Movement, State, Animation and Rendering components I think I should have: A MovementSystem that moves all the Movement components and updates the State components And a RenderSystem that updates the Animation components (the animation component should have one animation (i.e. a set of frames/textures) for each state and updating it means selecting the animation corresponding to the current state (e.g. jumping, moving_left, etc), and updating the frame index). Then, the RenderSystem updates the Render components with the texture corresponding to the current frame of each entity's Animation and renders everything on screen. I've seen some implementations like Artemis framework, but I don't know how to solve this situation: Let's say that my game has the following entities. Each entity have a set of states and one animation for each state: player: "idle", "moving_right", "jumping" enemy1: "moving_up", "moving_down" enemy2: "moving_left", "moving_right" What are the most accepted approaches in order to update the current state of each entity? The only thing that I can think of is having separate systems for each group of entities and separate State and Animation components so I would have PlayerState, PlayerAnimation, Enemy1State, Enemy1Animation... PlayerMovementSystem, PlayerRenderingSystem... but I think this is a bad solution and breaks the purpose of having a component-based system. As you can see, I'm quite lost here, so I'd very much appreciate any help.

Recent update killed unity 3d launcher

I am scratching my head on this one, a lot of things are still new to me. I updated 126 packages just now through the update manager, and upon reboot everything works fine except the unity launcher. It's just a dark space. The dash still works, as does the top panel and docky. 12.04 update crash, now cannot boot

Boot now freezes the system at the "Ubuntu purple screen" with the 5 dots under it. I cannot even CTRL-ALT-F1 to get to an alternate console. Have to push reset button on computer to reboot. After the 12.04 update crash, the system would boot, but I had no icons and no launch bar and errors about missing dependencies. CTRL-ALT-F1 and ran apt-get -f install and it appeared to get the missing packages. I followed with a apt-get update; apt-get upgrade. It appeared to install all of the remaining 12.04 update packages. Rebooted to same blank screen - no icons, but got a compiz error. In console I tried "unity --reset" rebooted ... Nothing ... It's dead in the water. Tried to boot into Recovery Mode - black screen - I cannot even CTRL-ALT-Del - have to push reboot button. Fortunately, I have Mint on another partition and I can access the broken 12.04 partition. Ideas? I can back up all of my folders using Mint, but I would hate to have to do a new install.

So far, my update method for the particle systems is 1 line of code within a for loop that makes each particle fall down the y axis to simulate a waterfall: m_particleList[i].positionY = m_particleList[i].positionY - (m_particleList[i].velocity * frameTime * 0.001f); In my .cu class I've created a struct which I copied from my particle class and is as follows: struct ParticleType { float positionX, positionY, positionZ; float red, green, blue; float velocity; bool active; }; Then I have an UpdateParticle method in the .cu as well. This encompass the 3 main parameters my particles need to update themselves based off the initial line of code. : __global__ void UpdateParticle(float* position, float* velocity, float frameTime) { } This is my first CUDA program and I'm at a loss to what to do next. I've tried to simply put the particleList line in the UpdateParticle method, but then the particles don't fall down as they should. I believe it is because I am not calling something that I need to in the class where the particle fall code use to be. Could someone please tell me what it is I am missing to get it working as it should? If I am doing this completely wrong in general, the please inform me as well.

Rebuilding a Mac Mini (early 2009) --- Update

A couple of months ago I rebuilt the family’s Mac Mini (you can read the details in this post). Things had gone pretty smoothly until a few weeks ago. That’s when my wife mentioned that different applications would spontaneously crash. She kept track for a few days, and it turned out to be any or all of the applications that she uses (Safari, Quicken, Entourage, etc.) . I did some online research and didn’t really find too much – but then how do you do a proper Google search for “Mac OS 10.5.8 applications crash”. The best suggestion seemed to be issues around 10.5.8, where people suggested that you go back to a previous version (something like 10.5.6). The only way to do that is to completely reinstall the OS – which is what I had just done. SO, instead of doing that, I decided to just reapply the 10.5.8 update by downloading it from Apple (http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update ). I had installed the updates after the rebuild through the Apple Update mechanism built into OS X. I thought maybe the combo update would reinstall some corrupted file (or something). I did this about a week ago and sure enough, we’ve had one crash this week with the same usage patterns as before. I still have no idea what was causing the crashes, but at this point, I’m just going to declare it fixed and move on.

I just got new dell inspiron3537 with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (no windows O/S). It got some wireless (hard block) yesterday. So, this morning, I ran the software update all the security update. After that I can't see "Wireless" in system setting. So, I updated all the software update and looked thru several web site and found "sudo lshw -c network" command. systemd: enabling cherokee service as a `unit file`

So I am learning how to use systemd to initialize my services automatically on server reboot. So of course, I first make sure I have systemd and some optional systemd related packages installed. pacman -S systemd initscripts-systemd Installation seems to go well and checking, I can see that systemd and its dependency libsystemd are installed. And the optional package initscripts-systemd is also installed:- [root@li280-195 ~]# pacman -Ss systemd extra/libsystemd 44-5 [installed] systemd client libraries extra/systemd 44-5 [installed] system and service manager extra/systemd-sysvcompat 2-2 sysvinit compat symlinks for systemd community/initscripts-systemd 20120412-1 [installed] Arch specific systemd initialization/bootup scripts for systemd community/systemd-arch-units 20120412-2 Arch specific Systemd unit files Next, I ensure that systemd is loaded up when my server reboots, via grub in grub's /boot/grub/menu.lst file like this:- kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/xvda ro init=/bin/systemd Rebooting my server to check, all loads up well and I can check that systemd is operational via:- systemctl list-unit-files However, I don't see my cherokee initialization script (which is simply created at /etc/rc.d/cherokee when I installed cherokee earlier via pacman -S cherokee) being listed as one of my unit files. So the question is, how do I do that? How do I put my cherokee initialization script under systemd's control?

Solaris 11 Update 1 - Link Aggregation

Solaris 11.1 No início desse mês em um evento mundial da Oracle chamado Oracle Open World foi lançada a nova release do Solaris 11. Ela chega cheia de novidades, são aproximadamente 300 novas funcionalidade em rede, segurança, administração e outros. Hoje vou falar de uma funcionalidade de rede muito interessante que é o Link Aggregation. O Solaris já suporta Link Aggregation desde Solaris 10 Update 1 porem no Solaris 11 Update 1 tivemos incrementos significantes. O Link Aggregation como o próprio nome diz, é a agregação de mais de uma inteface física de rede em uma interface lógica .Veja agumas funcionalidade do Link Aggregation: · Aumentar a largura da banda; · Imcrementar a segurança fazendo Failover e Failback; · Melhora a administração da rede; O Solaris 11.1 suporta 2(dois) tipos de Link Aggregation o Trunk aggregation e o Datalink Multipathing aggregation, ambos trabalham fazendo com que o pacote de rede seja distribuído entre as intefaces da agregação garantindo melhor utilização da rede.vamos ver um pouco melhor cada um deles. Trunk Aggregation O Trunk Aggregation tem como objetivo aumentar a largura de banda, seja para aplicações que possue um tráfego de rede alto seja para consolidação. Por exemplo temos um servidor que foi adquirido para comportar várias máquinas virtuais onde cada uma delas tem uma demanda e esse servidor possue 2(duas) placas de rede. Podemos então criar uma agregação entre essas 2(duas) placas de forma que o Solaris 11.1 vai enchergar as 2(duas) placas como se fosse 1(uma) fazendo com que a largura de banda duplique, veja na figura abaixo: A figura mostra uma agregação com 2(duas) placas físicas NIC 1 e NIC 2 conectadas no mesmo switch e 2(duas) interfaces virtuais VNIC A e VNIC B. Porem para que isso funcione temos que ter um switch com suporte a LACP ( Link Aggregation Control Protocol ). A função do LACP é fazer a aggregação na camada do switch pois se isso não for feito o pacote que sairá do servidor não poderá ser montado quando chegar no switch. Uma outra forma de configuração do Trunk Aggregation é o ponto-a-ponto onde ao invéz de se usar um switch, os 2 servidores são conectados diretamente. Nesse caso a agregação de um servidor irá falar diretamente com a agregação do outro garantindo uma proteção contra falhas e tambem uma largura de banda maior. Vejamos como configurar o Trunk Aggregation: 1 – Verificando quais intefaces disponíveis # dladm show-link 2 – Verificando interfaces # ipadm show-if 3 – Apagando o endereçamento das interfaces existentes # ipadm delete-ip <interface> 4 – Criando o Trunk aggregation # dladm create-aggr -L active -l <interface> -l <interface> aggr0 5 – Listando a agregação criada # dladm show-aggr Data Link Multipath Aggregation Como vimos anteriormente o Trunk aggregation é implementado apenas 1(um) switch que possua suporte a LACP portanto, temos um ponto único de falha que é o switch. Para solucionar esse problema no Solaris 10 utilizavamos o IPMP ( IP Multipathing ) que é a combinação de 2(duas) agregações em um mesmo link ou seja, outro camada de virtualização. Agora com o Solaris 11 Update 1 isso não é mais necessário, voce pode ter uma agregação de 2(duas) interfaces físicas e cada uma conectada a 1(um) swtich diferente, veja a figura abaixo: Temos aqui uma agregação chamada aggr contendo 4(quatro) interfaces físicas sendo que as interfaces NIC 1 e NIC 2 estão conectadas em um Switch e as intefaces NIC 3 e NIC 4 estão conectadas em outro Swicth. Além disso foram criadas mais 4(quatro) interfaces virtuais vnic A, vnic B, vnic C e vnic D que podem ser destinadas a diferentes aplicações/zones. Com isso garantimos alta disponibilidade em todas a camadas pois podemos ter falhas tanto em switches, links como em interfaces de rede físicas. Para configurar siga os mesmo passos da configuração do Trunk Aggregation até o passo 3 depois faça o seguinte: 4 – Criando o Trunk aggregation # dladm create-aggr -m haonly -l <interface> -l <interface> aggr0 5 – Listando a agregação criada # dladm show-aggr Depois de configurado seja no modo Trunk aggregation ou no modo Data Link Multipathing aggregation pode ser feito a troca de um modo para o outro, pode adcionar e remover interfaces físicas ou vituais.
