  • Changing gmail Settings with Ruby

    I need to configure my gmail account(s) programmatically with Ruby. I checked out the apps api and it looks like the simplest possible solution would be to use ClientLogin for logging in and a simple XML PUT for changing the forwarding setting, for example. I wrote a little test script like so: http://gist.github.com/373457 It would appear that the call to ClientLogin works because it comes back with an Auth= token. When it sends the PUT request to google, however, it comes back with a RestClient::Unauthorized exception. I rewrote the script with pure net/https and it turns out the message I'm getting is invalid token, yet I can't figure out what is wrong with my token. Can anyone else see it?

  • Loading HTML5 video on iPad via onclick event tied to a div

    I'm developing an HTML5 application (a game), that automatically preloads 5 video files. I'm able to do so correctly on Safari for PC, so there are no overlooked problems with file formats, codecs or such. The load fails on an iPad. As an official guide for video on iOS puts it: This means the JavaScript play() and load() methods are also inactive until the user initiates playback, unless the play() or load() method is triggered by user action. In other words, a user-initiated Play button works, but an onLoad="play()" event does not. Does this mean, that I have no means to initiate the loading of video after a user initiated action, if that action hasn't been tied to a video element (user clicked on a regular div — I request loading and displaying of a video, compared to the user actually clicking on a video element to load and play that particular element)?   • View isn't scrolling back down after I dismiss the keyboard

    I have a Tab Bar app. One of the views has a UITextView that is hidden by the keyboard when touched. I've set the view to scroll to account for the keyboard but it the view doesn't always return to it's original position after I dismiss the keyboard.   • Swing: How do I run a job from AWT thread, but after a window was layed out?

    My complete GUI runs inside the AWT thread, because I start the main window using SwingUtilities.invokeAndWait(...). Now I have a JDialog which has just to display a JLabel, which indicates that a certain job is in progress, and close that dialog after the job was finished. The problem is: the label is not displayed. That job seems to be started before JDialog was fully layed-out. When I just let the dialog open without waiting for a job and closing, the label is displayed. The last thing the dialog does in its ctor is setVisible(true). Things such as revalidate(), repaint(), ... don't help either. Even when I start a thread for the monitored job, and wait for it using someThread.join() it doesn't help, because the current thread (which is the AWT thread) is blocked by join, I guess. Replacing JDialog with JFrame doesn't help either. So, is the concept wrong in general? Or can I manage it to do certain job after it is ensured that a JDialog (or JFrame) is fully layed-out?   • jQuery and executing code until mouseout is called

    Good day all, I am tasked with building a slider for our site. Here is my goal: <div id="abc"> <div id="slider">...</div> </div> I need to move "slider" left 30px at a time when a button is hovered over, and right 30px when another button is hovered over. My problem is that there doesn't seem to be a reliable method for telling the code that the mouse hasn't left the are in question, unless there is something I did not think about or read yet. In other words, when the mouse is OVER the a button, the code to move "slider" left is executed until the mouseout is called. I'm not really sure how to do this. The only way I can think of is to look at the offsetTop and offsetLeft and offsetTop DOM properties and compare them to the mouse position, than run checks to see if the mouse is within the bounds of the box, and if not than it will stop the execution of code. Is there a better way to do this?

    I want to print the page (div) if there is no horizontal scroll appear for that div. I have a div (1000px) with dynamic data which having property overflow:auto;. So, i want to print the div only if div's width is not getting crossed. to achieve this i used following method of a javascript var curr_width = parseInt(mydiv.style.width); But it gives 1000px; only althogh i can see horizontal scrollbar for the div. What should i do to achive this. Can i check wheather horizontal scrollbar is appear for the div or not. Any help is appreciated. NOTE:- i don't want to use any javascript library.

    I'm using (void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event, and (void)touchesMoved:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event to handle some dragging on a UIView. This UIView however have some UIButtons as subviews of the UIView and when the user touches over a UIButton (which are also over the UIView) the touches methods aren't called. I need the touch methods in the UIView to be called at all times and still have the UIButtons working, how can I achieve this?

  • Revision Control System Recommendations

    I've reached a point in my independent development work where I would like to start using Subversion techniques. Up to now, I've been simply making backups by exporting my current database, and zipping them together with my PHP project files. I've read some articles online and watched a video with Linus Torvalds - the general verdict seems to be that Git is in and old CVS techniques are out. I'm not currently operating under Linux, I do all PHP work out of Windows - Eclipse. Due to the fact that Eclipse runs on JVM, jumping into Linux - Eclipse will be more or less transparent - file system aside. What I would like to accomplish is being able to keep a constant revision history - But I want this to be almost entirely transparent. Also, I work in an MVC framework, and I would like to be able to release my views to Designers, and have them work from within the revision control system too. Will Egit accomplish what I need? Or is it too much overhead for a one-man workforce? What do you recommend I use so that I can keep a revision history? I also require the service to be free! Thank you all - StackOverflow ftw!

All i am doing is updating an attribute on the div and updating the html. this shouldn't fire a click event?

  • When designing an event, is it a good idea to prevent listeners from being added twice?

    I am creating an event-based API where a user can subscribe to an event by adding listener objects (as is common in Java or C#). When the event is raised, all subscribed listeners are invoked with the event information. I initially decided to prevent adding an event listener more than once. If a listener is added that already exists in the listener collection, it is not added again. However, after thinking about it some more, it doesn't seem that most event-based structures actually prevent this. Was my initial instinct wrong? I'm not sure which way to go here. I guess I thought that preventing addition of an existing listener would help to avoid a common programming error. Then again, it could also hide a bug that would lead to code being run multiple times when it shouldn't.

    I am developing a web app and I have currently written the entire website in html/js/css and on the backend I have servlets that host some RESTFUL services. All the presentation logic is done through getting json objects and modifying the view through javascript. The application is essentially a search engine, but it will have user accounts with different roles. I've been researching some frameworks such as Play and Spring. I'm fairly new to web development, so I was wondering what advantages using server side page rendering would provide? Is it: Speed? Easier development and workflow? Access to existing libraries? More? All of the above?
