  • MySQL left outer join is slow

    - by Ryan Doherty
    Hi, hoping to get some help with this query, I've worked at it for a while now and can't get it any faster: SELECT date, count(id) as 'visits' FROM dates LEFT OUTER JOIN visits ON (dates.date = DATE(visits.start) and account_id = 40 ) WHERE date >= '2010-12-13' AND date <= '2011-1-13' GROUP BY date ORDER BY date ASC That query takes about 8 seconds to run. I've added indexes on dates.date, visits.start, visits.account_id and visits.start+visits.account_id and can't get it to run any faster. Table structure (only showing relevant columns in visit table): create table visits ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `account_id` int(11) NOT NULL, `start` DATETIME NOT NULL, `end` DATETIME NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8; CREATE TABLE `dates` ( `date` date NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`date`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1; dates table contains all days from 2010-1-1 to 2020-1-1 (~3k rows). visits table contains about 400k rows dating from 2010-6-1 to yesterday. I'm using the date table so the join will return 0 visits for days there were no visits. Results I want for reference: +------------+--------+ | date | visits | +------------+--------+ | 2010-12-13 | 301 | | 2010-12-14 | 356 | | 2010-12-15 | 423 | | 2010-12-16 | 332 | | 2010-12-17 | 346 | | 2010-12-18 | 226 | | 2010-12-19 | 213 | | 2010-12-20 | 311 | | 2010-12-21 | 273 | | 2010-12-22 | 286 | | 2010-12-23 | 241 | | 2010-12-24 | 149 | | 2010-12-25 | 102 | | 2010-12-26 | 174 | | 2010-12-27 | 258 | | 2010-12-28 | 348 | | 2010-12-29 | 392 | | 2010-12-30 | 395 | | 2010-12-31 | 278 | | 2011-01-01 | 241 | | 2011-01-02 | 295 | | 2011-01-03 | 369 | | 2011-01-04 | 438 | | 2011-01-05 | 393 | | 2011-01-06 | 368 | | 2011-01-07 | 435 | | 2011-01-08 | 313 | | 2011-01-09 | 250 | | 2011-01-10 | 345 | | 2011-01-11 | 387 | | 2011-01-12 | 0 | | 2011-01-13 | 0 | +------------+--------+ Thanks in advance for any help!

  • MySQL> Selecting from more tables (with same columns) without UNION

    - by Petr
    Hi, It is probably pretty simple but I cannot figure it out: Say I have tables A and B both with the same columns. I need to do SELECT * FROM A,B without having results merged into one row. I.e. when each table has 2 rows, I need the result to have 4 rows. EDIT: I know about JOIN but dont know how to join the tables without predicate. I need merge them. Thanks

  • MYSQL - SImple database design

    - by sequelDesigner
    Hello guys, I would like to develop a system, where user will get the data dynamically(what I mean dynamic is, without reloading pages, using AJAX.. but well, it does not matter much). My situation is like this. I have this table, I called it "player", in this player table, I will store the player information like, player name, level, experience etc. Each player can have different clothes, start from tops(shirts), bottoms, shoes, and hairstyle, and each player can have more than 1 tops, bottoms, shoes etc. What I am hesitated or not very sure about is, how do you normally store the data? My current design is like this: Player Table =========================================================================================== id | name | (others player's info) | wearing | tops | bottoms =========================================================================================== 1 | player1 | | top=1;bottom=2;shoes=5;hair=8 | 1,2,3| 7,2,3 Tops Table ===================== id | name | etc... ===================== 1 | t-shirt | ... I am not sure if this design is good. If you are the database designer, how would you design the database? Or how you will store them? Please advise. Thanks

  • mysql select update

    - by Tillebeck
    Hi I have read quite a few selcet+update questions in here but cannot understand how to do it. So will have to ask from the beginning. I would like to update a table based on data in another table. Setup is like this: - TABLE a ( int ; string ) ID WORD 1 banana 2 orange 3 apple - TABLE b ( "comma separated" string ; string ) WORDS TEXTAREA 0 banana -> 0,1 0 orange apple apple -> BEST:0,2,3 ELSE 0,2,3,3 0 banana orange apple -> 0,1,2,3 Now I would like to for each word in TABLE a append ",a.ID" to b.WORDS like: SELECT id, word FROM a (for each) -> UPDATE b SET words = CONCAT(words, ',', a.id) WHERE b.textarea like %a.word% Or even better: replace the word found in b.textarea with ",a.id" so it is the b.textarea that ends up beeing a comma separeted string of id's... But I do not know if that is possible.

  • MySQL Join Comma Separated Field

    - by neeraj
    I have two tables. First Table is a batch table that contain comma separated student id in field "batch" batch -------------- id batch -------------- 1 1,2 2 3,4 Second Table is marks marks ---------------------- id studentid subject marks 1 1 English 50 2 2 English 40 3 3 English 70 4 1 Math 65 5 4 English 66 6 5 English 75 7 2 Math 55 How we can find those students of first batch id =1 who have scored more than 45 marks in English without using sub query. Problem i found to get this done using a single query is that we can not use IN as an association operator in JOIN statement What changes are required in below query to make it work? SELECT * FROM batch INNER JOIN marks ON marks.studentid IN(batch.batch) where batch.id = 1

  • MySQL Query to find consecutive available times of variable lenth

    - by Armaconn
    I have an events table that has user_id, date ('2013-10-01'), time ('04:15:00'), and status_id; What I am looking to find is a solution similar to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2665574/find-consecutive-rows-calculate-duration but I need I need two additional components: 1) Take date into consideration, so 10/1/2013 at 11:00 PM - 10/2/2013 at 3:00AM. Feel free to just put in a fake date range (like '2013-10-01' to '2013-10-31') 2) Limit output to only include when there are 4+ consecutive times (each event is 15 minutes and I want it to display minimum blocks of an hour, but would also like to be able to switch this restriction to 1.5 hours or some other duration if possible). SUMMARY - Looking for a query that provides the start and end times for a set of events that have the same user_id, status_id, and are in a continuous series based on date and time. For which I can restrict results based on date range and minimum series duration. Hi, Should be a simple one. Database is mydb. One of the columns is mydata. What SELECT query do I need in order to select the top 3 occuring results from mydata, but sorted alphabetically? For example, if my data is this: mydata ====== kilo (x 1 occurrence) lima (x 9 occurrences) golf (x 5 occurrences) echo (x 9 occurrences) zulu (x 8 occurrences) How do I get it to return "echo, lima, zulu", which are the top three frequently occurring entries sorted alphabetically? Thanks! EDIT: Just to add, they need to be distinct entries. Thanks!

  • PHP mysql multi-table search returning different table and field data row after row

    - by Kinyanjui Kamau
    Hi Guys, I am building a social networking site that is dedicated to nightclubs and night events. Among other tables, I have a users table, events table and establishments table. I am really intrigued with how Facebook in particular is able to query and return matches of not just users but also pages, ads etc row after row. Im sure most who are reading this have tried the facebook search My question is in my case, should I: Perform 3 separate LIKE %search% on each of the tables on search.php. Draw up 3 separate tables to show the results of what matches in the relevant queries which are collapsed when empty(on the same search.php) ie In search.php //query users table $query_user = "SELECT user_first_name, user_last_name, username, picture_thumb_url, avatar FROM users JOIN picture ON users.user_id = picture.user_id AND picture.avatar=1 ORDER BY users.user_id"; $result_users = mysql_query($query_user, $connections) or die(mysql_error()); $row_result_users = mysql_fetch_assoc($wid_updates); //query events table $query_event = "SELECT event_thumb_url, event_name, event_venue, event_date FROM event WHERE event_name LIKE '%".$search_value."%'"; $event = mysql_query($query_event, $connections) or die(mysql_error()); $row_event = mysql_fetch_assoc($event); $totalRows_event = mysql_num_rows($event); //query establishments table $query_establishment = "SELECT establishment_thumb_url, establishment_name, location_id, establishment_pricing FROM establishment WHERE establishment_name LIKE '%".$search_value."%'"; $establishment = mysql_query($query_establishment, $connections) or die(mysql_error()); $row_establishment = mysql_fetch_assoc($establishment); $totalRows_establishment = mysql_num_rows($establishment); My html: <table max-width="500" name="users" border="0"> <tr> <td width="50" height="50"></td> <td width="150"></td> <td width="150"></td> <td width="150"></td> </tr> </table> <table width="500" name="events" border="0"> <tr> <td width="50" height="50"><a href="#profile.php"><img src="Images/<?php echo $row_event['event_thumb_url']; ?>" border="0" height="50" width="50"/></a></td> <td width="150"><?php echo $row_event['event_name']; ?></td> <td width="150"><?php echo $row_event['event_venue']; ?></td> <td width="150"><?php echo $row_event['event_date']; ?></td> </tr> </table> <table width="500" name="establishments" border="0"> <tr> <td width="50" height="50"><a href="#profile.php"><img src="Establishment_Images/<?php echo $row_establishment['establishment_thumb_url']; ?>" border="0" height="50" width="50"/></a></td> <td width="150"><?php echo $row_establishment['establishment_name']; ?></td> <td width="150"><?php echo $row_establishment['location_id']; ?></td> <td width="150"><?php echo $row_establishment['establishment_pricing']; ?></td> </tr> </table> I haven't populated the PHP echo's for the user table.
