  Let's say I have a simple ASP.NET MVC site with two views. The views use the following routes: /Foo and /Foo/Bar. Now let's say I want to use the URL to specify (just for the sake of example) the background color of the site. I want my routes to be, for instance, /Blue/Foo or /Green/Foo/Bar. Also, if I call Html.ActionLink from a view, I want the Blue or Green value to propagate. So, e.g., if I call Html.ActionLink("Bar", "Foo") from /Blue/Foo, I want /Blue/Foo/Bar to come back. How best can I do this? (Forgive me if I'm missing an existing post. This is hard for me to articulate concisely, so I'm not quite sure what to search for.)

• Opening all external links in Phongap's ChildBrowser using jQuery Mobile

  I'm using jQuery Mobile & Phonegap, and have the following code to open all external links in a certain div with the ChildBrowser: $('.someDIV a').live('click', function() { var thisUrl = $(this).attr('href'); PhoneGap.exec("ChildBrowserCommand.showWebPage", thisUrl); return false; }); For some reason, while the page loads in the childbrowser, it also loads in the background, as if there's no "return false". I've found a workaround by giving the link's href attribute a value of "#", and using the title for the url like this: And updating the jQuery code accordingly, but this is a problem where my links are dynamically generated, and I can't have the url in the title attribute. Any ideas how to solve this?

• Why is there a margin at the top of my browser?

  I have a web page that is displays differently in Firefox and Safari (IE testing yet to come). The page displays as expected in Safari, but there is a 50px margin between the body and the HTML that I can't determine what is causing it. Here is the CSS for the body: body { font-size: 13px; line-height: 1.333em; background: #f6eaae url(../_images/parchment-big.jpg) no-repeat center top; font-family: "Lucida Grande", Lucida, Verdana, sans-serif; color: #323232; } I would really appreciate some assistance in finding what is causing this difference. Ideally the Firefox version is better because it gives that extra breathing room at the top. Thanks.

• How do i hide html until its processed with javascript?

  I am using some JS code to transform my menu into a drilldown menu. The problem is before it runs the JS you see a BIG UGLY mess of links. On their site its solved by putting the js at the top. Using recommendations by yahoo/YSlow i am keeping the JS files at the bottom. I tried hiding the menu with display:none then using jquery to .show(), .css('display', ''), .css('display', 'block') and they all lead up to a messsed up looking menu (i get the title but not the title background color or any links of the menu) How do i properly hide a div/menu and show it after being rendered?

• css override not working?

  I have three tabs that change styles when clicked. class="active" gives the tab the same background as the tab content, while class="inactive" has another color. My problem is the text on the tabs, something's weird with the CSS. The default state of class="active" looks as it should, while the inactive tabs are underlined even though my CSS says text-decoration: none !important; and the clicked active tab text becomes extra bold (or maybe it's a shadow).   Hi, I have the following file structure: C:/wamp/myproject/admin/webroot/images I have an index.php file lying inside the admin folder which calls a header.inc.php file lying in the same folder. header.inc.php has the following code- <td align="left" valign="top" class="header-bg"> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"> index.php calls a css file (css.css) through the following code: <link href="<?php echo (WS_DIR_CSS); ?>/css.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> The css lies in the following location: C:/wamp/myproject/admin/webroot/css The css files has a class which has the following code: .header-bg { background:url(../images/header_bg.jpg) left top repeat-x; height:77px; } The image header_bg.jpg is not being displayed in the browser.   I'm trying to replicate the Perl and PHP style pack and unpack functions in JavaScript. Unsigned integers were easy enough, so my pack('n') and pack('N') are ok. But my lack of a computer science background is a hurdle now and I don't know where to start with pack('d') for packing JavaScript's standard floating point. Is there a JavaScript library for this out there? If not, is there a good resource where I can learn how to do this? I am fine with bitwise and binary level operations in JS, I just don't know where to start with the logic. Thanks.

• AsyncTask won't stop even when the activity has destroyed

  Hi all, I have an AsyncTask object which starts executing when the activity is created and does stuff in the background (downloads upto 100 images). Everything works fine but there is this peculiar behavior which i'm not able to understand. For eg: when the android screen's orientation changes then the activity is destroyed and created again. So I override the onRetainNonConfigurationInstance() method and save all the downloaded data executed in the AsyncTask. My purpose of doing this is to not have AsyncTask run each time activity is destroyed-created during orientation changes, but as i can see in my logs the previous AsynTask is still executing. (The data is saved correctly though) I even tried to cancel the AsynTask in the onDestroy() method of the activity but the logs still show AsynTask as running. This is really strange behavior and would really be thankful if someone can tell me the correct procedure to stop/cancel the AsynTask. Thanks

  I'm looking to learn WPF, and I'd like to get a book to help in the process. Most of the popular questions on SO regarding actual books are from 2008, and I wanted to see if recommendations for books had changed at all. WPF Unleashed, which seems to be the most popular recommendation, was published in 2006, which is quite a while ago, with the lightening-quick pace that Microsoft has been following with .NET. Does this book still work? For some background, I'm a web developer (using MVC, so MVVM makes sense to me conceptually), looking to make the jump to desktop development. I did C# a while ago, but I'll be picking up a separate C# book to get up to speed on that. I am not interested in Silverlight. I am not necessarily interested in flashy UIs right now, as I'm working on business software but what I am interested in is good, clean, intuitive user interfaces.

• JQUERY, getting two BINDs/Clicks to play nice together?

The problem I'm having is I need the LI to contain the EDIT span because of CSS styling reasons, I have a big blue background. But this is preventing me from binding the EDIT btn. • UIButton setBackgroundImage consumes doesn't release memory?

  My UIButton has it's background image set like this: [myImageButton setBackgroundImage:[UIImage imageNamed:myImageName] forState:UIControlStateNormal]; myImageButton is a retained property of the class, and is setup with IB. No where else is it accessed in the app. myImageName is simply an NSString with a filename like @"myImage_number_1.png" I am loading large images, 1024 x 1024 in size. When the view is shown, it changes the image with the above statement, then available memory decreases. After I see the view about 7-9 different times, the app crashes with a memory warning. I thought the method would free up the loaded image. The view itself is only instantiated and allocated one time, so it's not in the retain/release cycle if the view controller. Is there something about this setBackgroundImage I don't know that causes it to not release memory?

• Using CSS to positon text after an image

  I've trying to do something that I'm sure is simple, but I can't do it. All I want to do is have an image and then some text after that image, and be able to control accurately the amount of space between the image and the text. In my style sheet, wrap has these attributes: .wrap { //text-align: left; width: 1100px; height: 870px; background-color: white; color: black; padding: 10px; margin: auto; I want my text to look like this directly below the image: Username Age Location Currently, I just add loads of break tags to control where I have the text, but that's messy and there must be a better way. • Visual C++ 9 Linker file size limitation.

  It appears that the visual C++ 9 linker has a file allocation algorithm that doubles the size of the file every allocation, so you get 512mb, 1024mb, 2048mb, 4096mb. The problem is that it is using a library that cannot handle files larger 2048MB, and as such crashes with an error such as "cannot read file at is the disk full or write protected". Is there a way to bypass this limitation or otherwise replace the linker with something else that works? A bit of background, I have a code generator that generates a large number of files, ~15k cpp files, I've managed to reduce the number of files to something about 6k to get something that at least completes the linking process, I would like to be able to include all 15k without having to create multiple libs.

Third Question: I've seen on MSDN that dataGridView uses BindingSource as a mediator between DataGridView.DataSource and BindingList Is this really necessary?

• CSS issue with margin: auto

  Hi am having an issue with the margin auto of my website where i have a wrapper div with the width set to 1000px and the margins top and bottom to 0 and left and right to auto. I have a navigation menu in the side bar, where i used java script to replace the same div with different tables. when i click a link in the menu the wrapper shifts right some px and the comes to original, I don't want that action i want the wrapper to be static and not to vary at any time. how can i achieve that. when i set the margin to just 0, so problem with positioning. But i want the wrapper to be centered.
