• When choosing a domain does including your brand affect SEO performance?

  I've been asked to build a "landing page" for a local branch of an international corporation. While the corporation has a well-established domain name, the local office wants to use a unique, separate url that will be easy for them to relay to clients. However, the corporation is considered a category leader, so the local office is also concerned about the importance to carrying over the company's brand to the URL. Questions that have arisen: From an SEO perspective, is there a benefit to including the brand name in the URL? Would it be more beneficial to buy a domain that relates generically to the INDUSTRY as opposed to the specific brand name? Would the benefits of an easy-to-remember, short domain outweigh any SEO benefits that might be gained by a longer, brand-specific domain?

• iOS App Store Under 18 - Post via private limited company? [closed]

  I'm 17 years old and wish to post an application on the iOS App Store. My situation is a little different to other users doing the same thing, though. I'm finding this very frustrating. It's very annoying that Apple don't let younger talent post themselves. Is it true that if I do post under my Father's name I can choose a different name to be listed on the app store? I want to keep this professional, I don't want my father's name to appear underneath the application on the store. :P I have registered myself as the company director of a private limited company. Even though I'm the only one in the company, is this a way to bypass the 18+ restriction or do I need a minimum of 2 employees? Why the hell has this been closed? Thanks

  When I try to install a software using Ubuntu Software center I get: Failed to download repository information Check Your Internet connection When I try to do a apt get-install something, I get: 407 Proxy Authentication Required I use a proxy server that requires a user-name and a password. I have set my systems proxy manually, by plugging in the required numbers in the Networks proxy and applied it system wide. I guess the problem now is plugging in my user-name and password. When I use INTERNET via Mozilla, it specifically asks me for my user-name and password.

• What is the point to namespaces in branches in git?

  So I mainly use Mercurial for my projects and I decided to sit down and learn all Git's shenanigans to discover if I'm in the right side (at least for me). I'm learning that git uses namespaces for branches and I would like to know (in your experience) what is the point of namespaces?. In Mercurial I could just set the convention of naming branches like so: <branch name> //for "origin" branches <username>/<branch name> //for user branches I imagine that there is more to it than just the name (aside from avoiding naming conflicts), but what do I get out of this seemingly more complicated (not necessarily bad) model?

  My Question is what method should I use if I wanted to get the total number of characters a user inputs? without using arrays, i tried using .length() but it did not return all characters say from the first and lastname, it only returned the first name. Here's an example of my code. (Please dont laugh im really new in programming :) ) System.out.print("Enter your first and last name: "); String yourName = keyboard.next(); System.out.println("Your name has a total of " + yourName.length() + " numbers"); what happened was if i enter say "Neo Matrix" it would only return 3.   I need a Viewport3D for the sole purpose of doing geometric calculations using Petzold.Media3D.ViewportInfo. I do now want to place it in a Window. Point2dToPoint3d(Point point) { var range = new LineRange(); var isValid = ViewportInfo.Point2DtoPoint3D(_viewport, point, out range); if (isValid) return range.PointFromZ(0); else return null; } Unfortunately, it's not working. I think the reason is that the ActualWidth and ActualHeight of the viewport and both zero (and these are read-only properties, so I can't set them manually). (I have tested the exact same with an actual rendered Viewport3D, so I know the issue is not with my converter method.) Any idea how I can get WPF to assign the ActualWidth and ActualHeight based on my Width and Height settings? I tried setting the HorizontalAlignment and VerticalAlignment to Left and Top, respectively, and I also messed with the MinWidth and MinHeight, but none of these properties had any effect on the ActualWidth or ActualHeight.

I always just end up putting them in the code-behind and casting the DataContext as SomeViewModel, then passing the MouseEventArgs on to a handler in my view-model. That's bad enough already, but in this case, I'm actually passing in a control (a Viewport3D), which is necessary for translating coordinates between 2D and 3D. Any suggestions on how to make this more in tune with MVVM?

  I solved Problem 10 of Project Euler with the following code, which works through brute force: def isPrime(n): for x in range(2, int(n**0.5)+1): if n % x == 0: return False return True def primeList(n): primes = [] for i in range(2,n): if isPrime(i): primes.append(i) return primes def sumPrimes(primelist): prime_sum = sum(primelist) return prime_sum print (sumPrimes(primeList(2000000))) The three functions work as follows: isPrime checks whether a number is a prime; primeList returns a list containing a set of prime numbers for a certain range with limit 'n', and; sumPrimes sums up the values of all numbers in a list. (This last function isn't needed, but I liked the clarity of it, especially for a beginner like me.) The function caused my program to crash when I put in '1000'. And when I put in a value like '2000', Python gave me this: RuntimeError: maximum recursion depth exceeded. What did I do wrong with my recursive function? Or is there some specific way to avoid a recursion limit?

• How to stream partial content with ASP.NET MVC FileStreamResult

  We're using a FileStreamResult to provide video data to a Silverlight MediaElement based video player: public ActionResult Preview(Guid id) { return new FileStreamResult( Services.AssetStore.GetStream(id, ContentType.Preview), "application/octet-stream"); } Unfortunately, the Silverlight video player downloads the entire video file before it starts playing. This behavior is expected as our Preview Action does not support downloading partial content. (side note: if the file is hosted in an IIS virtual directory we can start playback at any location in the video while it is still downloading. however for security and auditing reasons we can't provide a direct download link. so this is not an option.) How can we improve the Controller Action to support partial HTTP content? I assume we first have to inform the client that we support it (adding an "Accept-Ranges:bytes" header to a HEAD request), then we have to evaluate the HTTP "Range" header and stream the requested file range with a response code of 206. Will that work with ASP.NET MVC hosted on IIS6? Is there already some code available? • open flash chart rails x-axis issue

  Hey guys, I am using open flash chart 2 in my rails application. Everything is looking smooth except for the range on my x axis. I am creating a line to represent cell phone plan cost over a specific amount of usage and I'm generate 8 values, 1-5 are below the allowed usage while 6-8 are demonstrations of the cost for usage over the limit. The problem I'm encountering is how to set the range of the X axis in ruby on rails to something specific to the data. Right now the values being displayed are the indexes of the array that I'm giving. When I try to hand a hash to the values the chart doesn't even load at all. So basically I need help getting a way to set the data for my line properly so that it displays correctly, right now it is treating every value as if it represents the x value of the index of the array.   I am creating a calendar control of sorts... One thing I need to know is how many weeks are there in a Month... So NSCalendar rangeOfUnit:inUnit:forDate Seems to be exactly what I need... Except I am noticing something that seems off and I can't quite figure out why this is happening... The following code... Any clues? Edit on 3/20/2010: Seeing as how I couldnt use rangeOfUnit:inUnit:forDate to calculate the number of weeks in a month. I decided to figure out a different way of calculating the same value. I figured I should do this in a non-Gregorian localized way, so I attempted to start with getting the number of days in a week, but I got the result of 28 days in a week. So I started writing more code to figure out why... I wanted to make sure that the type of NSCalendar that I was playing with was in fact what I was supposed to be getting... And that led me to finding some differences... • Exporting non-public type through public API

  What if I have few factory methods returning non-public type and pairing set of methods which gives variables of this non-public type? This results with titled warning message in NetBeans. In result public API will contain only two pairing sets of methods. The reason is to make my type hierarchy sealed (like seald classes in Scala) and allow users only instantiate these types through factory methods. So we get DSL in some sense. For example, Schedule class represented by calendar fields' contraints. There are some types of contraints - Range, Singleton, List, FullSet - with NumberSet interface as a root. We don't want to expose these types and how Schedule interact with them. We just want the specification from the user. So we make NumberSet package-private. In class Schedule we create few factory-methods for constraints: NumberSet singleton(int value); NumberSet range(int form, int to); NumberSet list(NumberSet ... components); and some methods for creating Schedule object: Schedule everyHour(NumberSet minutes); Schedule everyDay(NumberSet minutes, NumberSet hours); User can only use them in the manner: Schedule s = Schedule.everyDay( singleton(0), list(range(10-15), singleton(8)) ); Is it bad idea?

• Pseudo random numbers in php

  I have a function that outputs items in a different order depending on a random number. for example 1/2 of the time Popeye's and its will be #1 on the list and Taco Bell and its logo will be #2 and half the time the it will be the other way around. The problem is that when a user reloads or comes back to the page, the order is re-randomized. $Range here is the number of items in the db, so it's using a random number between 1 and the $range. $random = mt_rand(1,$range); for ($i = 0 ; $i < count($variants); $i++) { $random -= $variants[$i]['weight']; if ($random <= 0) { $chosenoffers[$tag] = $variants[$i]; break; } } I went to the beginning of the session and set this: if (!isset($_SESSION['rannum'])){ $_SESSION['rannum']=rand(1,100); } With the idea that I could replace the mt_rand in the function with some sort of pseudo random generator that used the same 1-100 random number as a seed throughout the session. That way i won't have to rewrite all the code that was already written. Am I barking up the wrong tree or is this a good idea?

• How to update QStandartItemModel without freezing the main UI

  I'm starting to learn PyQt4 and have been stuck on something for a long time now and can't figure it out myself: Here is the concept: There is a TreeView with custom QStandartItemModel, which gets rebuild every couple of seconds, and can have a lot (hundreds at least) of entries, there also will be additional delegates for the different columns etc. It's fairly complex and the building time for even plain model, without delegates, goes up to .3 sec, which makes the TreeView to freeze. Please advice me for the best approach on solving this. • sfJQueryUIPlugin: No Picker for new records

  Everyday is a new day with Symfony, but I'm loving it! This morning I installed the sfJQueryUIPlugin. It has very little dependencies & accepts themeRoller styles. However, it has 2 issues: [Feature_Request] There is no way to specify the year range. By default, it shows a 20 year range around the year in the field value. eg. if field value is 1993-01-20, the range will be 1983 to 2003. ??? Has anyone found a way out??? The DatePicker does not appear when the field is empty, Thus it does not show up during new record creation. To solve this, I tried setting up the default value in the date input field (which now appears as a text input) using $this->setDefault('date_of_birth',date('Y-m-d')); ??? Is anybody facing this problem of picker now available during new record creation ??? ??? Also is it the right way to set default value ??? Thanks in advance.

• Alerting for incorrect cell values

  My problem: I have two ranges R16 and R01. These ranges were set up by swiping each range and then renaming them in the upper left panel of the sheet. Each range requires users to fill in each cell with a value. R16 requires users to enter a number of 0 through 5. The range R01 requires a value of 0 or 1 to be entered. NO cell can be left blank in any cell within these two ranges. These ranges and requirements are specific to this sheet only. It would be nice if at the time of user entering a number, an error message appeared like [invalid entry] if the value inputted was outside parameters set. For example, in R16, if someone entered 12 or -1 they would be alerted. Finally when the user presses a button on the page to use these values in a separate process, it is essential to check that no cell is left blank. I am trying to find a way to halt the running of the marco (via the button) if these parameters above are not met. Thank you

  I am trying to learn how to use predicates and so am trying to replace the following working code with filteredArrayUsingPredicate... [filteredLocations removeAllObjects]; for (NSString *location in locations) { NSRange range = [location rangeOfString:query options:NSCaseInsensitiveSearch]; if (range.length > 0) { [filteredLocations addObject:location]; } } Instead I am trying.... [filteredLocations removeAllObjects]; NSPredicate *predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"SELF contains %@", searchText]; [filteredLocations addObjectsFromArray: [locations filteredArrayUsingPredicate:predicate]]; I am not getting the same results with the predicate as I am with for loop rangeOfString. With the range of string for example searchText returns an 8 item array while with the same value returns only 2 with the predicate. Another example, hono will find honolulu in the locations array while it will not find anything using the predicate. As I understand it SELF represents the object object being evaluated ie. the locations array, so I think that is the correct syntax. Any help would be appreciated Thanks, John
