    I would like to run some ad hoc select statements in the IBM System I Navigator tool for DB2 using a variable that I declare. For example, in the SQL Server world I would easily do this in the SQL Server Management Studio query window like so: DECLARE @VariableName varchar(50); SET @VariableName = 'blah blah'; select * from TableName where Column = @VariableName; How can I do something similar in the IBM System I Navigator tool?

    I'm currently supporting a Python web app with increasingly complicated user/role/permission management requirements. Currently, we are rolling our own user, groups, permissions, etc. code and supporting database. I'd like to find something like ASP.NET membership that can help manage user authentication and authorization, rather than risk security issues in continuing to create an increasingly complicated custom solution. Are there any similar projects out there worth taking a look at?

    Are there any Source Code Management (SCM) tools made specifically for solo programmers or small groups of programmers that tracks every small change made to source code in real time? This would require all key strokes to be tracked, and any other small changes like GUI UI editing. This seems like it would be a very useful tool for a programmer trying to remember a fix he did an hour ago that they didn't manually commit.

  • Consuming Web Services requiring Authentication from behind Proxy server

    Hi All, I've seen a number of post about Proxy Authentication, but none that seams to address this problem. I'm building a SharePoint Web Service consuming desktop application, using Java, JAX-WS in NetBeans. I have a working prototype, that can query the server for authentication mode, successfully authenticate and retrieve a list of web site. However, if I run the same app from a network that is behind a proxy server (the proxy does not require authentication), then I'm running into trouble. The normal -dhttp.proxyHost ... settings does not seam to help any. But I have found that by creating a ProxySelector class and setting it as default, I can regain access to the authentication web service, but I still can't retrieve the list of web sites from the SharePoint server. It's almost as if the authentication I provide is going to the proxy rather than the SharePoint server. Anyone have any experience on how to make this work?   • Monitoring process-level performance counters in Windows Perfmon

    I am sure everybody has bumped into this. As you scale a web server that uses multiple application pools, it's valuable to collect performance counters for each application pool 24x7. The only problem is - Perfmon links counters to application pools by process ID, so whenever an application pool recycles you have to remove the counters for the old process ID and add them for the new process ID. Since application pools recycle quite often (whenever you release a new version or patch the server), it's a major pain. I wonder if anybody has found a workaround for this? Perhaps a programmatic way to update Perfmon settings whenever an application pool starts up or some way to reference application pools by name instead of process ID? I'll appreciate any hints on this!

  • SVN: is it possible to delete a branch that was copied removed etc for good?

    I have to remove a branch from svn history for good. Normally I would use svnadmin dump /path/to/repo |svndumpfilter --drop-empty-revs --renumber-revs exclude /branches/bad_branch However this branch was not just created, but also moved and then removed and dump script fails to process downstream information with messages like: Invalid copy source path '/branches/bad_branch' So I imagine 2 ways to cope with the problem keep only last few revisions of the history and put current repository as an archive on the web make a dump up to the revision where the 'bad_branch' was created and apply the rest of the changes as a patch, therefore losing history of a few recent commits. Is there a better, cleaner way to deal with this?

  • Adobe Color Profiles/Color Spaces, how is it possible that this works?

    I'm learning about Color Profiles/Color Spaces/Monitor Color Management Profiles and I was just wondering how any of that justified considering the fact that I could throw the entire color anything off by adjusting the brightness and contrast of my monitor? Additionally there are things like lighting in the place where your monitor resides. I don't understand what makes it possible to know that the colors that you are looking at on your monitor are accurate. I really don't have any idea where to start (considering I obviously can't even get the terminology right in the first place...:-p)

  • Am I using EJBs properly?

    I am using a JEE6 stack including JPA 2.0, JSF 2.0, EJB 3.1 etc. The way my architecture is setup is the following: I have JPA annotated DAOs using hibernate as my JPA provider. I have JSF Managed beans which correspond to my facelet/xhtml pages. I have EJBs that handle all of my database requests. My XHTML pages have JSF EL which make calls to my Managed beans. My managed beans contain references to my DAO entities which are managed by EJBs. For example, I have a user entity which is mapped to a db table. I have a user EJB which handles all CRUD operations that return Users. I have a page that edits a user. The highlevel workflow would be: navigate to user edit page - EL calls a method located in the managed bean that loads a user. The method calls userEJB.loadUser(user) from the EJB to get the user from the database. The user is edited and submit - a function is called in the managed bean which calls a function in the EJB to save the user. etc. I am running into issues accessing my data within my JSF pages using EJBs. I am having a lot of problems with lazy initialization errors, which I believe is due to how I have set things up. For example, I have a Client entity that has a List of users which are lazily loaded. In order to get a client I call a method in my EJB which goes to the database, finds a client and returns it. Later on i wish to access this clients list of users, in order to do so i have to go back to the EJB by calling some sort of method in order to load those users (since they are lazily loaded). This means that I have to create a method such as public List<User> getUserListByClient(Client c) { c = em.merge(c); return c.getUserList(); } The only purpose of this method is to load the users (and I'm not even positive this approach is good or works). If i was doing session management myself, I would like just leave the session open for the entire request and access the property directly, this would be fine as the session would be open anyway, there seems to be this one extra layer of indirection in EJBs which is making things difficult for me. I do like EJBs as I like the fact that they are controlled by the container, pooled, offer transaction management for free etc. However, I get the feeling that I am using them incorrectly, or I have set up my JSF app incorrectly.     With SQL Server, I can execute code ad hoc T-SQL code with full procedural logic through SQL Server Management Studio, or any other client. I've begun working with PostgreSQL and have run into a bit of a difference in that PGSQL requires any logic to be embedded in a function. Is there a way to execute PL/PGSQL code without creating an executing a function?

  • Mapping functions of 2D numpy arrays

    I have a function foo that takes a NxM numpy array as an argument and returns a scalar value. I have a AxNxM numpy array data, over which I'd like to map foo to give me a resultant numpy array of length A. Curently, I'm doing this: result = numpy.array([foo(x) for x in data]) It works, but it seems like I'm not taking advantage of the numpy magic (and speed). Is there a better way? I've looked at numpy.vectorize, and numpy.apply_along_axis, but neither works for a function of 2D arrays. EDIT: I'm doing boosted regression on 24x24 image patches, so my AxNxM is something like 1000x24x24. What I called foo above applies a Haar-like feature to a patch (so, not terribly computationally intensive).
