It would be nice to get the address dynamically to reuse the script on other machines. Any ideas?

• Shooter in iOS and a visible Aim line before shooting

  I have to questions. I am trying to develop a game that is iOS but I did it first in my computer so I can tested there. I was able to must of it for PC but I am having a very hard time with iOS port The problem I do have is that I don't know how to shout in iOS. I am in no mans land as I am a developer and not a sys admin but I have to assume many roles. So I'm reaching out for help. Sometimes I will see hundreds of these 'C0000005' scriptengine errors in the event log in a matter of seconds and other times just a few times an hour. I googled this line 'ASP!CACTIVESCRIPTENGINE::GETAPPLICATION' and got nothing. Its like the function don't exist or something. I have spent many hours google-ing to no avail and am now turning to the experts on the forums. Thank you for your help

• Installing Office 2010 without through group policy without an msi

  I have been breaking my head for several days now trying to install Microsoft office 2010 through group policy. Unfortunately Microsoft decided it would be fun to release office without an MSI and so I either 1) need to create an msi for it or 2) need to install it through a logon script that would run the setup.exe from a network location. Any advise would be greatlly appreciated. I tried to create a script but even though I double click it and it runs properly, it does not seem to kick in when users log in or when the machine is turned on. Also is there an easy way to create an msi? thanks! -Ri

• Deleting MySQL rows causes lock table error

  I had a couple million rows to delete but they can't be deleted at once without this error ERROR 1206 (HY000): The total number of locks exceeds the lock table size So I wrote a script to delete 100,000 rows 10,000 at a time. It ran once but when I run it a second time I get the error on the first attempt to delete 10,000. The way I'm trying to delete the 10,000 rows is to use a delete statement that refers to all 2 million rows but I use a limit clause to affect only 10,000. I've tried adding an "unlock tables;" statement to the script before the first delete but that doesn't help. I still get the lock table error on the first delete. Any ideas how I can do this? Is there a way I can tell it NOT to lock records? I can make sure nothing else is accessing the table.

But it seems the other columns changed by relatively negligible amounts - how is this possible? Am I interpreting this wrong, or is some memory just not being accounted for in this output?

• Batch renaming 32000 files - splitting into multiple subdirectories

  I've got a web server which has files uploaded to it. There is a script which assigns them numeric IDs and stores them in a corresponding subdirectory. I've now got 32000 of these uploads and that's too many for the server to handle in one directory. The script I'm using does have a way to "namespace" uploads so that ID 12345 - instead of sitting in /files/12345 - would sit in /files/namespaced/000/012/345. The code can deal with this just fine, but I now have 32000 subdirectories in the wrong naming style. What's the easiest way to go through my existing files and put them in the right place?

• Is it possible to keep nm-applet running between invocations of WM startup?

  I am using nm-applet to interface with NetworkManager, running xmonad as a window manager. My X sessions (including nm-applet) are set up with a /usr/local/bin/xmonad.start script. My question is, how can I keep nm-applet running in the background as long as X is running, but not necessarily xmonad? As mentioned above, it is being started with xmonad (and dying with it when xmonad is restarted, etc). I am using gdm to manage my X sessions, and I'm running 10.10. Where's a good place to start nm-applet to suit my particular needs? I need to remove it from the control of xmonad, but don't know where to start it otherwise. Any help, tips, etc appreciated. Edit: problem seems to be with how I have integrated xmonad. • How to SEO Optimize Javascript Image Loader?

  I am building an image-centric catalog website. It catalogs collectible gaming cards numbering 100,000+ pages. Competitor sites recieve millions of hits each month, so with the possibility of excessive traffic, I need to moderate image bandwidth while also optimizing for image SEO. I'm looking for some tips on doing so. Each page on the site features one card with appropriate tags and descriptions. There are however four images for each card - one on matte cardstock, one on foil cardstock, one digital, and one digital foil. In a world with unlimited bandwidth and no-wait page loads, I'd simply embed all four images on the main product page with titles, alt tags, and captions to rank them according to their version keyword. In reality a javascript gallery image loader seems appropriate. Here is a simplified example of my current code. Would this affect SEO in any way? Should I be doing anything differently? Note that I don't want to create a page for each image as I'd have to duplicate the card tags and descriptions on each one, diluting PR for the main page. • NTP doesn't sync

  I'm using Meinberg NTP to sync the time in a VPS. The clock refuses to sync - there's a ~30s shift comparing to other servers. Meinberg NTP comes with a status script that checks hte delay\jitter every 10s and it is showing all zeros. Actions I've taken which didn't help: Restarted the NTP service using a script that comes with Meinberg NTP Added port 123 for UDP and TCP as an exception port to Windows Firewall Added Meinberk NTP executables as an exception program to Windows Firewall validated iburst appears after each server listed in the configuration file Restarted the server The OS is a Windows Server Standard SP2 32bit. What did I miss?

By everything I mean folders/files content within a file content in hidden files Basically I want to refactor a Java-project. Sure, I could use Eclipse to handle the replacing, but this leaves out the folders or resources outside of my workspace. I was thinking of a script that could do the job for me but this seems rather tricky. For instance when it comes to folder-/file-rename I want to replace only the part of the name that matches my string, the rest should remain untouched.   I do quite a few presentations, and teach at the University of Washington, and also teach other classes. But I'm always learning from others how to help others learn. At events like TechEd I have access to some of the best speakers around, so I try to find out what they do that works. I attended a great session by allen White, in which he demonstrated a set of PowerShell scripts. He said that Dan Jones of the Microsoft Manageability team told him while he demonstrated a script he needed to provide some visual way to represent the process. Allen used one of the oldest visualizations around - a flowchart. It was the first time I'd seen one used to illustrate a PowerShell script, and it was very effective. I'm totally stealing the idea. All of us are teachers - we help others on our team understand what we're up to. Make sure you make notes for what you find effective in dealing with you, and then meld that into your own way of teaching. My design concept. An Advertisement is a record in the Database, when a page is loaded, using Javascript, it calls my server which in turn will use a PHP script to query the Database and get a random Advertisement. (It may do kore like get an ad based on demographics or other criteria as well) The PHP script will then return the Advertisement to the server/website that is calling it and show it on the page as an Image that will have a special tracking link. I will need to... Count all impressions (when the Advertisement is shown on the page) Count all clicks on the Advertisement link Count all Unique clicks on the Advertisement link My question is purely on the query and displaying of the Advertisement and nothing to do with the administration side. If there is ever money involved with my Advertisement buying/selling of adspace, then the stats need to be accurate and make sure people can't easily cheat the system. Is tracking IP address really the only way to try to prevent click fraud? I am hoping someone with some experience can clarify I am on the right track? As well as give me any advice, tips, or anything else I should know about doing something like this?

• Scheduled task based on Microsoft patch release cycle

  I have a simple powershell script which unapproves all patches based on computer group name in WSUS which works great. All of our servers patch on a specific Day/Week/Time starting on Week0-Wednesday which would be the Wednesday after Microsoft Patch Tuesday (2nd Tuesday of every month) all the way to Week3-Sunday. This obviously causes problems as sometimes not all patches get applied in one reboot cycle, and then will install patches the following week during their group policy scheduled patching day/time which is what I'm trying to prevent. My question is I'm trying to schedule my script to run based on this schedule and I am finding it next to impossible using Windows Task Scheduler. For instance if I wanted something to always run on the 4th Monday after Microsoft Patch Tuesday, I cant always use the task scheduler option "4th Monday of the Month" Has anyone run into a similar situation, or know of any task scheduling tools which give you more flexibility than Windows Task Scheduler?

• Set Default Program for All Users on Server

  I work with a large server environment that's running Windows Server 2003, 2008, and 2012 now on some boxes. We have a custom-built log viewer program that associates with two file types that I'd like to set to be the default program for all users across all boxes, so new users don't have to set the default program themselves on every box they log into. Ideally I'd like to have a simple registry script we could push out to all machines at once. I realize this likely means changing the registry entries for either HKCR or HKLM for the file extensions, but adding the program location with %1 extension to \shell\open\command value in HKLM simply opens the program and does not also load the log file. Am I just missing an open and play setting, or am I looking at this entirely wrong? (And I know the script will need to be different for 2003 and 2008, but changing the version for two scripts isn't hard) Thanks!

  I have a Mediatemple dv (Plesk) server with two domains, each has static IP. I had domain1 as main domain and domain2 as secondary. When A PHP script from domain2 sends email the headers show the IP address of domain1 as the origin. Received: from domain2.com (domain1.com [70.ipof domain1]). I want only domain2 to be mentioned so I did the following: Changed server name to domain2.com made domain2.com the primary domain (about 30 hours ago) made fixed IP address of domain2.com the default address for the server. Still when the script sends emails I see the same info as above in the header. What do I need to do to make the email origin domain2.com?

  I'm developing a PHP script that analyzes the web traffic of my clients websites. By placing a link to a javascript on the clients website (think of Google Analyses), my script harvests information like: the visitors IP address, reference link, current page link, user agent, etc. Now my clients can view these statistics via a control panel that I have build. These clients can also adjust profile settings, set firewall rules, create support tickets and pay invoices. Currently all the the traffic is stored in one table. You can imagine that this tabel would become very large as some my clients receive thousands of pageviews per day. Furthermore, all the traffic data of each client would be stored in the same table, creating a mess. This is the same for the firewall rules currently, and the invoice and support system. I'm looking for way to structure my database in a more organized way to hold large amounts of data of multiple users. This is the first project that I'm developing that deals with so much data, and would like to hear suggestions and tips. I was thinking of using multiple databases to structure the data. The main database will store users data (email,pass,id,etc) admin/website settings. Than each client will have an unique database labeled prefix_userid, which carry tables holding their traffic, invoice, and support ticket data. Would this be a solution, and would it slow down or speed up overall performances (that is spreading the data over muliple databases). I have a solid VPS, but would like to safe and be as effient as possible.

• Making Modular, Reusable and Loosely Coupled MVC Components

  I am building MVC3 application and need some general guidelines on how to manage complex client side interaction between my components. Here is my definition of one component in general way: Component which has it's own controller, model and view. All of the component's logic is placed inside these three parts and component is sort of "standalone", it contains it's own form, data needed for interaction, updates itself with Ajax and so on. Beside this internal logic and behavior of the component, it needs to be able to "Talk" to the outside world. By this I mean it should provide data and events (sort of) so when this component gets embedded in pages can notify other components which then can update based on the current state and data. I have an idea to use client ViewModel (in java-script) which would hookup all relevant components on page and control interaction between them. This would make components reusable, modular - independent of the context in which they are used. How would you do this, I am a bit stuck as I do not know if this is a good approach and there is a technical possibility to achieve this using java-script/jquery. The confusing part is about update via Ajax, how to ensure that component is properly linked to ViewModel when component is Ajax updated (or even worse removed or dynamically added). Also, how should this ViewModel be constructed and which technicalities to use here and in components to work as synergy??? On the web, I have found the various examples of the similar approach, but they are oversimplified (even for dummies) or over specific and do not provide valuable resource or general solution for this kind of implementation. If you have some serious examples it would be, also, very helpful. Note: My aim is to make interactions between many components on the same page simpler and more robust and elegant.

  I was facing a challenge yesterday that I was creating a Visual webpart and I wanted to validate the a submit button is only visible if the user checked a "I agree to terms" checkbox. Something was weired that I tested my code on a normal asp.net website and it worked perfectly while it had a different behaviour inside the webpart which is whenever I check the checkbox, the button is enabled but it will not fire the asp.net validators in client side. It posts back the page and then the validators appear after that. So, I tried to change my type of thinking and I reached a different solution is that to call a javascript function whenever the button is clicked and then check if the checkbox is clicked or not. To illustrate more, here are an example to what I'm saying: 1. • how can i use apache log files to recreate usage scenario

  Recently i installed a website that had too many requests and it was too slow. Many improvements have been made to the web site code and we've also bought a new server. I want to test the new server with exactly the same requests that made the old server slow. After that, i will double the requests, make new tests and so on. These requests are logged in the apache log files. So, I can parse those files and make some kind of script to make the same requests. Of course, in this case, the requests will be made only by my computer against the server, but hey, better than nothing. Questions: - is there some app that does this already? - would you use wget? ab? python script? Thanks!
