• Passing values across pages ASP.net

  Hi i need to pass a long list of Ids from one page to another, i was thinking of using querystring but taking in consideration that the number of ids to be passed may reach 300 i think is not a good idea. an option from my understanding may be the use of session, this seems to me an optimal solution in my case but on the other hand I can certainly clear the session when the user performs a certain action and the list of ids is not longer needed, but if the user leaves the page without performing any action i want to clear the session, how can i do it? If multiple users are using the same functionality do i need the session's items to be confused or the session is for a single user? I am working in asp.net c# Thanks

  Referring to Menu / Scrolling Example I would like to create / find the same functionality for a vertical menu. I tried the following. <asp:Menu ID="menuAccountMembers" runat="server" StaticSubMenuIndent="16px" Visible="true" RenderingMode="Table" ScrollDownImageUrl="~/Resources/scrolldown.jpg" ScrollUpImageUrl="~/Resources/scrollup.jpg"> <Items> But it doesnt display any scrolling images. I am using .net 4.0 Tried setting menuAccountMembers.RenderingCompatibility = new Version(3, 5); as well. If there a property to only display the first 5 root menu items, then show scroll bars for the rest? It can be click-able, no need to hover over to show next item.

• storing huge amount of records into classic asp cache object is SLOW

  we have some nasty legacy asp that is performing like a dog and i narrowed it down to because we are trying to store 15K+ records into the application cache object. but that's not the killer. before it stores it, it converts the ADO stream to XML then stores it. this conversion of the huge record set to XML spikes the CPU and causes all kinds of havoc on users when it's happening. and unfortunately we do this XML conversion to read the cache a lot, causing site wide performance problems. i don't have the resources to convert everything to .net. so that's out. but i need to obviously use caching, but int his case the caching is hurting instead of helping. is there a more effecient way to store this data instead of doing this xml conversion to/from every time we read/update the cache?

  in this sample, two threads created; a worker thread created by BeginInvoke and an I/O completion thread created by SendAsync method. but another author in his UnsafeQueueNativeOverlapped example, don't recommend this. i want to use SendAsync or ...Async in an asp.net page and i want to use PageAsyncTask. however, its BeginEventHandler requires AsyncResult to be returned which SendAsync does not return. afaik, event based async pattern is the most recommended way so how could we call SendAsync or any ...Async methods without creating two threads and hurting the performance?

• Find a control by String from asp.net Web service

  Well since it seems relatively difficult to send the object of a WebControl over JSON using jquery.ajax() I've decided to send the name of the control as a string because I know how to do that. Then I promptly realized that, from a web service, I don't actually know how to search for a control by ID name. Since its a service I can't seem to get Control.FindControl() to work so does anyone have ideas or suggestions? All I'm trying to do is call a databind() on my radcombobox. Thanks in advance! For any of you that knows anything about asp.net/rad controls - I'm basically updating a database and want the radcombobox to be in sync with that database again after adding something, before I autoselect what was just added. Other than databind do i have to call anything to refresh that list? Thanks again!

  I'm using the AutoComplete control from the ASP.NET AJAX Control Toolkit and I'm experiencing an issue where the AutoComplete does not populate when I set the focus to the assigned textbox. I've tried setting the focus in the Page_Load, Page_PreRender, and Page_Init events and the focus is set properly but the AutoComplete does not work. If I don't set the focus, everything works fine but I'd like to set it so the users don't have that extra click. Is there a special place I need to set the focus or something else I need to do to make this work? Thanks.

I'm working on an ASP.NET/C# app. I have 2 text boxes and I need to validate if the input text for both of them are not both null ex: if(string.IsNullOrEmpty(TextBox1.Text) && string.IsNullOrEmpty(TextBox2.Text) ) //FAIL!!! else // OK! that is, at least one txtBox has values I was planning on using a custom validator but it seems that the validation function only gets called when something is written on the textBox i'm using has the 'control to validate'. Now, that doesn't work for me since I want to show an error message when both text boxes are empty. Is there a way to make the validation function to be called with, for example a postback? Or is there any other better approach to this case than the custom validator? tks

  I follow the direction in here How to configure SQL Server to manage ASP.NET sessions to create ASPState db. I have 2 web application in IIS 7. In IIS web application setting, i go to "Session State" and set session state as "SQL Server" and provide connection string. In each web application web.config, i add <sessionState mode="SQLServer" allowCustomSqlDatabase="false" sqlConnectionString="data source=server;user id=user;password=password" cookieless="false" timeout="7200" /> I create a session , Session["Data"] = "test" in Web App A and go to Web App B in the same browser to print it Response.Write(Session["Data"]); It shows NOTHING. I can see there are data in table : ASPStateTempApplications and ASPStateTempSessions under ASPState Database. Also, i dont see any error in event log. Can anyone think anything i may do wrong? • ASP, My SQL & case sensitity suddenly broken

  Hi There, We have an old ASPsite that has been working fine for years with a MY SQL database. All of a sudden last week lots fo SQL queries stopped working. The database has a table called 'members' but the code calls 'Members'. It appears the queries used to work regardless of case sensitivity on the table names, but something has changed recently somewhere to enforce case. This has me stumped as the site has not been touched in years, the server config hasn't changed & the database provide has not changed anything. Is there any simple way to ignore case for an ASP site (without editing lots fo files :) Thanks Ben

  Again i rewrite my question with more details i.e. I am developing a website in Asp.net 2.0 in that i'm tracking the user's some details like their id,no of page hitted and time of hitting etc, in a LogfileDate(the LogfileDate contains whole day summary of all users) saved inside a folder(Folder is inside my project). And at another day when a new logfileDate created i want to mail the previous day Logfile and delete that file after sending. Everything happened but when It is going to delete its shows file is accessed by another process. So I need to refresh that folder after sending mail so that it got free with buffer. I'm not using IIS and i dont want it to use.

  I am creating 4 asp.net pages. first three pages have 'CONTINUE' button and last page has 'SUBMIT' button. I am not allowed to use Sessions to store first three pages data. and i need to use 'BACK' button on last three pages. when i click 'BACK' button i need to maintain the previous page data entered by user. As my pages do some postbacks, i cannot use javascript.history function. My restrictions are: As the application is served from a web farm, a session object cannot be used. However, for the purpose of this excersise, consider session object as database-like persistent space where you can store your data. your code should show an easy way to switch to a different persistent space. What is databse like persistent space and how to write a code to switch to different persistent space?... Please give me some idea on how to proceed.... Thank you

  Hi, I've generated a pdf using iTextSharp and I can preview it very well in ASP.Net but I need to send it directly to printer without a preview. I want the user to click the print button and automatically the document prints. I know that a page can be sent directly to printer using the javascript window.print() but I don't know how to make it for a PDF. Edit: it is not embedded, I generate it like this; ... • Where and how to store functions in asp.net.vb

  Hi. I am using visual studio 2008, asp.net.vb I have various functions; 1 that calculates totals, 1 that calculates averages, 1 that calculates percentages etc. The data they act upon is different depending on the particular web page, but all my pages use these functions. So I want to know how I can store these functions in a single place so that all of my web pages can access the routines. At the moment all I know how to do is to write seperate functions in the code-behind for each individual web page. Obviously that is just so long winded and inefficient, but try as I might I can't figure out how to do it better. Please can anyone help. Many thanks.

• Way around ASP.NET session being shared across multiple tab windows

  I'm storing some value in an asp.net session on the first page. On the next page, this session value is being read. However if multiple tabs are opened and there are multiple page 1-page 2 navigation going on, the value stored in session gets mixed up since the session is shared between the browser tabs. I'm wondering what are the options around this : Query String: Passing value between the pages using query string, I don't want to take this approach since there can be multiple anchor tags on page 1 linking to page 2 and I can not rewrite the URLs of each tag since they are dynamic. Cookies??? In-memory cookies are shared across browser tabs too, same as the session cookie, rite ? Any other option?

  Hi, Working on a classic asp page that uses paging. The error I am having a problem with is this: Lets say that you have 5 pages returned in your record set and you are on page 2. You leave and come back, you then press the link for page 3, the trouble is your session has timed out. I don't know why this happens but the page is reloaded, but the session check is bypassed and of course when the page attempts to retrieve the record set the session variables are now empty so I am getting a message stating: error near ',' line 1, because now the query is defunct.   hi, I developed a website in asp.net and i place the site in online. I upload my site in online by using CuteFTP. After uploading when i type my url it is giving error like this... Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine. Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off". Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

When user clicks it - it instances MyClass (its implementation is in AppCode directory) and turns invisible (button2 becomes visible).
