• How To Disable Accelerators In Internet Explorer 8/9

  Internet Explorer 8 introduced Accelerators features that popups blue icon when we select a piece of text in Internet Explorer. If you are annoyed with this blue icon or Accelerators feature in IE 8/ IE 9 you can disable it easily. Follow these steps 1. Launch Internet Explorer 2. Click Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced 3. Uncheck the box for Display Accelerator button on selection, under Browsing category. 4. Click Apply and OK. 5. Restart Internet Explorer to apply the changes. That’s all. From now onwards Internet Explorer does not display Accelerators Icon when you select text in the browser. • Getting many files from a SharePoint Document Library the easy way

  As an individual who does not use Internet Explorer as their primary browser, there is a great feature that you may never notice that allows you to easily copy files to and from a document library: the Open in Windows Explorer link. In browsers such as Chrome or Firefox this link may not appear. I know this isn’t a major groundbreaking feature, but it’s really easy to overlook and it’s worth knowing about, especially when you need to create a local copy of a full document library. In this quick blog we’ll go over how to access this feature in both SharePoint 2007 and 2010. First, make sure you are in Internet Explorer. These options may not show in other browsers. In SharePoint 2007, browse to the document library you would like to access then select Actions > Open with Windows Explorer. In SharePoint 2010, browse to the document library you would like to access then select Library Tools > Library > Open with Explorer from the ribbon.

• Cannot boot from SD card/flash drive on Macbook Pro 13" - boot fails after purple screen

  It's my first time using Ubuntu and I have run into some problems. I have a 16GB USB Flash drive and 16GB SDHC Card. I would prefer to use the SD card but either will do just fine if it helps with the solution. I Have a 13" Macbook Pro with no hard drive deeming the machine useless without an OS. I thought I could substitute the hard drive for a 16GB SD card with an Ubuntu ISO on it. I would like to plug in my SD card into my Macbook Pro, boot the Ubuntu ISO and do simple things such as use the browser for internet. The Problem: Whenever I boot my Macbook pro with the SD card that has the Ubuntu ISO, it loads at the purple logo screen and does not function. How can I resolve this issue?

• July, the 31 Days of SQL Server DMO’s – Day 26 (sys.dm_db_log_space_usage)

  The sys.dm_db_log_space_usage DMV is a new DMV for SQL Server 2012. It returns Total Size, Used Size, and Used Percent size for a transaction log file of a given database. To illustrate this DMV, I will query the DMV against my AdventureWorks2012 database. SELECT * FROM sys.dm_db_log_space_usage As mentioned above, the result set gives us the total size of the transaction log in bytes, the used size of the log in bytes, and the percent of the log that has been used. This is a very simplistic DMV but returns valuable information. Being able to detect when a transaction log is close to being full is always a valuable thing to alert on, and this DMV just provided an additional method for acquiring the necessary information.   Last Saturday I went to 'Developer Developer Developer 10' on the Microsoft campus at Reading (UK). This is one of a series of regular events put on by the developer community for the developer community. The guys who organise these events put in a huge amount of time and effort into them and they are well worth getting to if you can.I enjoy these events because there's always something currently relevant but also I can get an insight into things I don't normally come across or work with.Having said that, it's web related things that always grab my attention and this year one of my favourite speakers, George Adamson, gave a session on 'Designing for mobile (aka designing for everything)'. • Why won't Opera let me use the Ubuntu font?

  This is driving me crazy. I'm using monochrome rendering for fonts and this causes a few problems in my browser so I wanted to make Ubuntu the standard sans-serif font. I changed it in the preferences and it initially works okay but after a while it reverts to the default. If I go into the font section in the menu, it still lists Ubuntu and if I click OK the pages will correct themselves. Does anyone know I can stop this behaviour? I'm using Opera 11 on Ubuntu 10.10

• Internal WordPress pages all 404 when using WAMP

  I have a problem when using WAMP while designing and coding my site. Well, I have a local version of Wordpress installed in WAMP and use it as a tool to see my changes when coding. I also have the same files uploaded to some free hosting. The problem is when I want to access for example http://localhost/contact. Browser gives me a 404 error. As I said, the same files (exact copy from my PC) are on the web here and when I go to http://thefalljourneyindia.iblogger.org/contact it opens the page fine (without the style of course because I haven't made one yet). Why is that and how do I get to see all of my pages locally like I can when the WP installation is online?

• Backup Your Windows Home Server Off-Site with Asus Webstorage

  Windows Home Server lets you backup machines on your network easily. But what about backing up the server data? Today we take a look at ASUS WebStorage for Windows Home Server, which provides you with secure off-site backup for WHS. To use the ASUS WebStorage service you’ll need to sign up for a free account. It offers 1GB of free storage, then you can purchase an unlimited backup package for $39.99 for a year subscription. Note: They also offer online storage for individual PCs as well. Install ASUS WebStorage for WHS Browse to your shared folders on the server and open the Add-Ins folder and copy over the WHSConnectorSetup2.2.4.088.msi file (link below) then close out of the folder. Now launch Windows Home Server Console from one of the computers on your network, click Settings, then Add-ins. Under Available Add-ins click the Available tab and you’ll see the Asus WebStorage installer file we just copied over. Click the Install button. Installation kicks off and when it’s complete, you’ll need to close out of the console and reconnect. Using ASUS WebStorage WHS Connector  When you reconnect to WHS Console, scroll over to the ASUS WebStorage icon and click on Settings. Now log into your ASUS account… Now select the folders you want to backup to the WebStorage service. Select the radio button next to Enable to initialize the backup process… The backup process begins. You can change which folders are backed up simply by disabling the backup process, uncheck the folder(s), then enable the backup again. ASUS WebStorage Site After you have files backed up to the ASUS site, log into your account, and your presented with an overview of the amount of storage you’re using. It also shows what type of files are taking certain amounts of space.   You can browse through your backed up files and folders. It allows you to share and sync backed up data as well. Navigate to the file you want and you can easily download it by clicking on it, or share it out by clicking the share link below it. If you choose to share it, you’re provided with a link to the file to send out to other users.   Conclusion Users of Windows Home Server have been looking for an inexpensive cloud backup solution for quite some time. There are services such as JungleDisk, KeepVault, Wuala…etc. These services probably do a better job, but can start getting expensive once you start uploading a GBs of data. Another disappointment of ASUS WebStorage is you can only backup your WHS shares (from what we’ve been able to determine), it’s an “all or nothing” type of thing. You cannot go in and select individual files and folders. The initial upload speeds can be a bit slow as well, although that might have something to do with limited upload speeds on the DSL connection we used to test it. Retrieving your data from the ASUS site is a breeze though, and all the data files are organized quite well. The WHS Addin is very easy to install and use. If you’re looking for an off-site solution to backup your WHS data, you can test out ASUS WebStorage for free with a 1GB limit. This is good for testing the service and it might be exactly what you’re looking for. Other users may want a more advanced solution like KeepVault or CloudBerry…which is a front end for Amazon S3 storage. • Polishing the MonologFX API

  Earlier this week, I released "into the wild" a new JavaFX 2.x dialog library, MonologFX, that incorporated some elements of DialogFX and new features I'd been working on over time. While I did try to get the API to a point of reasonable completion (nothing is ever truly "finished", of course!), there was one bit of functionality that I'd included without providing any real "polish": that of the button icons. Good friend and fellow JFXtras teammate José Pereda Llamas suggested I fix that oversight and provide an update (thanks much, José!), thus this post. • Making profit - Adsense contains too many stopwords

  I was thinking of using Adsense, but after I've read about the stopwords policy... Too many words are banned: "a**, s**t, id**t, a****le, bu****it," etc.. That generally means that I cannot use Adsense, unless I edit my posts. How else would I go about making some profit out of my site? I don't want to use things like popups, text-link ads, I can't post many shoplinks, and my site is too small to sell adspace. For specific reasons, I also don't do videos, am not planning on starting a forum or premium content, or anything very close to what's in this sentence. The reason for this post is basically the fact that I've seen sites without any ads, huge sites, and I started to wonder: how do they make money? That was Gizmodo to be precise. Some info about my site: It's a blog where I review games and post news. There is no forum, no registration.

• Problem with Python3 picking Python2 package

  I installed python3-numpy package, but trying to import it in Python3 interpreter I get this: $ python3 Python 3.2.3 (default, May 3 2012, 15:54:42) [GCC 4.6.3] on linux2 Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. >>> import numpy Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> File "/home/zetah/.local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/numpy/__init__.py", line 128, in <module> from version import git_revision as __git_revision__ ImportError: No module named version >>> Looking in Synaptic I see python3-numpy is installed in /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/numpy/ Why is it picking wrong package and what can I do to remedy this? Update: OK, in my ~/.profile I have this line: PYTHONPATH=$PYTHONPATH:$HOME/.local/lib/python2.7/site-packages but if I remove this line then my Python 2.7 local packages (which I build from source) wont work Update 2: Everything seems to work perfect without $PYTHONPATH. • Marketplace to buy Templates for Twitter Bootstrap framework?

  Are there any sites where I could buy a site template designed in Twitter Bootstrap (so that it's easy to modify)? I'm working on a site redesign and I think finding a template that looks close enough and modifying it is an economical way to go. (We're pretty niche so I don't need us to have a super cool website.) But folks I've talked to say that many of those templates are hard to modify. So I'm thinking that finding a template designed in a customizable framework would be easy to modify.

• Can I configure a visual difference view with the notifications provided by TFS?

  I have TFS sending me alerts whenever someone on my team checks in code. (I had to create notification rules for every project, but that's just a sidebar complaint in this question.) These alerts provided some information on who checked in the files when, and what files have changed, with urls to view details in a browser. The thing that baffles me is that I can't just click on the source file and see a visual diff of the changes. There's no link that will auto-launch a diff in Visual Studio (using a custom protocol) from there either. Is there a way to configure TFS to provide a visual diff of the changes to the file that was checked in via this notification UI?

For many years IBM have been pushing for Portlet Containers with the JSR 168 and later the JSR 286 Specification. 2008-2009, IBM the Lotus division introduced the iWidget Specification. Based on my reading, it is a more dynamic and lightweight version of the Portlets, close to Google Gadget. It uses a different paradigm than Porlet while providing the same features. A major differentiator with this kind of client side technologies is that you don’t need a big and costly Portal infrastructure.
