  • Ubuntu 12.04 host – Virtualbox 4.1.12 Guest=Windows 7 – Network will not connect

    Ubuntu 12.04 host – Virtualbox 4.1.12 Guest=Windows 7 – Network will not connect. I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 on an Acer Aspire 5742-7645 laptop with 4GB memory, Intel Core i3 processor, Intel HD Graphics, DVD drive, 802.1 b/g/n, and 500 GB HD. I connect to my router via a wireless connection. I have installed Virutalbox 4.1.12 from the Ubuntu Software Center and installed Guest additions 4.1.12 in the Windows 7 guest session. I have Windows XP and Windows 7 installed as guests in Virtual box The network settings are different for XP and 7 – see below. Network Settings XP guest = Adapter 1: PCnet-FAST III (NAT) - Network works perfectly and has worked well for several years. Network Settings Win 7 = Adapter 1: Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop (Bridged adapter, eth1) Promiscuous Mode = allow all Cable connected = checked When I originally installed Windows 7, I tried NAT and the guest network would not connect. Once I changed the setting to the above (Bridged) the Network worked perfectly. However, what I believe is after updates (not sure if it was an Ubuntu or Windows update) the guest network stopped working and I can not get it to connect.   • Arcball Problems with UDK

    I'm trying to re-create an arcball example from a Nehe, where an object can be rotated in a more realistic way while floating in the air (in my game the object is attached to the player at a distance like for example the Physics Gun) however I'm having trouble getting this to work with UDK. I have created an LGArcBall which follows the example from Nehe and I've compared outputs from this with the example code. I think where my problem lies is what I do to the Quaternion that is returned from the LGArcBall. Currently I am taking the returned Quaternion converting it to a rotation matrix. Getting the product of the last rotation (set when the object is first clicked) and then returning that into a Rotator and setting that to the objects rotation.     the term "client" used here is not referring to client's browser, but client server Before cache workflow 1. client make a HTTP request --> 2. server process --> 3. store parsed results into memcache for next use (cache indefinitely) --> 4. return results to client --> 5. client get the result, store into client's local memcache with TTL After cache workflow 1. another client make a HTTP request --> 2. memcache found return memcache results to client --> 3. client get the result, store into client's local memcache with TTL TTL = time to live Is possible for me to know when the data was updated, and to expire relevant memcache(s) accordingly. However, the pitfalls on client site cache TTL Any data update before the TTL is not pick-up by client memcache. In reverse manner, where there is no update, client memcache still expire after the TTL First request (or concurrent requests) after cache TTL will get throttle as it need to repeat the "Before cache workflow" In the event where client require several HTTP requests on a single web page, it could be very bad in performance. Ideal solution should be client to cache indefinitely until further notice.     My assignment is to use local search heuristics to solve the Multidimensional multiple-choice knapsack problem, but to do so I first need to find a feasible solution to start with. Here is an example problem with what I tried so far. Problem R1 R2 R3 RESOUCES : 8 8 8 GROUPS: G1: 11.0 3 2 2 12.0 1 1 3 G2: 20.0 1 1 3 5.0 2 3 2 G3: 10.0 2 2 3 30.0 1 1 3 Sorting strategies To find a starting feasible solution for my local search I decided to ignore maximization of gains and just try to fit the resources requirements. I decided to sort the choices (strategies) in each group by comparing their "distance" from the multidimensional space origin, thus calculating SQRT(R1^2 + R2^2 + ... + RN^2). I felt like this was a keen solution as it somehow privileged those choices with resouce usages closer to each other (e.g. R1:2 R2:2 R3:2 < R1:1 R2:2 R3:3) even if the total sum is the same. Doing so and selecting the best choice from each group proved sufficent to find a feasible solution for many[30] different benchmark problems, but of course I knew it was just luck. So I came up with the problem presented above which sorts like this: R1 R2 R3 RESOUCES : 8 8 8 GROUPS: G1: 12.0 1 1 3 < select this 11.0 3 2 2 G2: 20.0 1 1 3 < select this 5.0 2 3 2 G3: 30.0 1 1 3 < select this 10.0 2 2 3 And it is not feasible because the resources consmption is R1:3, R2:3, R3:9. The easy solution is to pick one of the second best choices in group 1 or 2, so I'll need some kind of iteration (local search[?]) to find the starting feasible solution for my local search solution. Here are the options I came up with Option 1: iterate choices I tried to find a way to iterate all the choices with a specific order, something like G1 G2 G3 1 1 1 2 1 1 1 2 1 1 1 2 2 2 1 ... believeng that feasible solutions won't be that far away from the unfeasible one I start with and thus the number of iterations will keep quite low. Does this make any sense? If yes, how can I iterate the choices (grouped combinations) of each group keeping "as near as possibile" to the previous iteration? Option 2: Change the comparation term I tried to think how to find a better variable to sort the choices on. I thought at a measure of how "precious" a resource is based on supply and demand, so that an higer demand of a more precious resource will push you down the list, but this didn't help at all. Also I thought there probably isn't gonna be such a comparsion variable which assures me a feasible solution at first strike. I there such a variable? If not, is there a better sorting criteria anyways? Option 3: implement any known sub-optimal fast solving algorithm Unfortunately I could not find any of such algorithms online. Any suggestion?

  • Magento, NGINX, PHP-FPM, APC, MEMCACHED, 16gb Ram CentOS, Spiking PHP-FPM to 100% CPU

    I have been trying to resolve my issue of spiking cpu caused by php-fpm processes. I've reduced the php-fpm config settings to: pm = ondemand pm.max_children = 12 pm.start_servers = 2 pm.min_spare_servers = 2 pm.max_spare_servers = 10 pm.max_requests = 500 php_admin_value[memory_limit] = 128M Problem still exists. I'm running a Joomla main site (which is having no problems) and a Magento store in a sub-directory. My server is a Linux CentOS, running NGINX, APC, Memcached, Full Page Cache and php-fpm. My server has 8 cores and 16gb dedicated ram. My host has shut down my server several times the past week because my php-fpm processes are consuming the entire network. A lot of the individual php-fpm processes are getting over 50% cpu. I've hired several "professionals" and none of them was able to help me, so now broke and stumped, I'm turning to you guys for help. So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. table_cache=4096 I just noticed that someone changed my innodb_buffer_pool_size to 512M. Shouldn't this be set to 80% of available ram? So I have 16gb ram so it should be set at 12G; however, I set it at 10G. What do you think? I made that change and restart everything. Php-fpm is still spiking cpu. Here is just 1 php-fpm process: 23942 user 17 0 507m 99m 27m R 90.9%CPU 0.6 0:03.46 php-fpm I'm sure there may be more information you will need to help, so just let me know what you guys need to help me figure this out.     I want to call functions from an AutoIt dll, that I found at C:\Program Files (x86)\AutoIt3\AutoItX\AutoItX3.dll using Python. I know I could use win32com.client.Dispatch("AutoItX3.Control") but I can't install the application or register anything in the system. So far, this is where I am: from ctypes import * path = r"C:\Program Files (x86)\AutoIt3\AutoItX\AutoItX3.dll" autoit = windll.LoadLibrary(path) Here are the methods that works: autoit.AU3_WinMinimizeAll() # windows were successfully minimized. autoit.AU3_Sleep(1000) # sleeps 1 sec. Here is my problem, python is crashing when I call other methods like this one. I get python.exe has stopped working from windows... autoit.AU3_WinGetHandle('Untitled - Notepad', '') And some other methods are not crashing python but are just not working. This one doesn't close the window and return 0: autoit.AU3_WinClose('Untitled - Notepad', '') And this other one return 1 but the window is still minimized: autoit.AU3_WinActivate('Untitled - Notepad', '') I've tested the examples with with Dispatch("AutoItX3.Control") and everything is working like expected. It seems like methods that should return something other than a string are crashing python. But still, others like WinClose are not even working... Thank you in advance for your help!   • InstallShield 2010 with license - no license for automatic build system (CI) as Windows service

    I really need help here. We are using CI build-process (Hudson) as an automated build system using Msbuild. The CI run in Apache Tomcat 6 that run under the credentials of a domain user (not a local Windows user ). Every time the CI try to build an InstallShield project (using isproj files) we get a license error message: " C:\Program Files\MSBuild\InstallShield\2010\InstallShield.targets(62,3): error : -7159: The product license has expired or has not yet been initialized. You must launch the IDE to configure the product license in order to proceed. C:\Program Files\MSBuild\InstallShield\2010\InstallShield.targets(62,3): error : Exception Caught". If I log in to the same machine with the same domain user credentials and build the InstallShield project there is a license and it is working well. Adding the user to the local Users group doesn't help (no license). Adding the user to the local Administrators group helps and it is working. We do not want the user to be in the local Administrators group - for various reasons. What do I need to do to make it work? Do I need to add permissions to the use? Help will be highly appreciated.   • Setting up an efficient and effective development process

    I am in the midst of setting up the development environment (PHP/MySQL) for my start-up. We use three sets of servers: LIVE - the servers which provide the actual application TEST - providing a testing version before it is actually released DEV - the development servers The development servers run SVN with each developer checking out their local copy. At the end of each day completed fixes are checked in and then we use Hudson to automate our build process and then transfer it over to TEST. We then check the application still functions correctly using a tester and then if everything is fine move it to LIVE. I am happy with this process but I do have two questions: How would you recommend we do local testing - as each developer adds new pages or changes functionality I want them to be able to test what they are doing. Would you just setup local Apache and a local database and have them test locally on their own machine? How would you recommend dealing with data layer changes? Is there anything else you would recommend doing to really make our development process as easy and efficient as possible? Thanks in advance

    I deployed an ASP.NET web application last night and I when I woke up this morning it was very slow and would occasionally just throw a 'Service Unavailable' error. I checked the Event Viewer and it was filled up with these errors: I'm puzzled as it was working perfectly when I deployed it (MonoTorrent is required to retrieve the number of seeders/leechers for a certain torrent off the tracker - this was working fine), but it's no longer working and whenever code that uses MonoTorrent gets involved, the worker process just crashes. MonoTorrent.dll is in the /bin/ directory.

  • ‘Empty’ results from MQL Query. Freebase Schema: /film/film/starring & /film/actor/film

    First post here, so I hope this is enough detail. I started using freebase-python today to get film information for a program that I’m working on. One thing that I need to grab is a list of actors that starred in a film. I’ve followed some tutorials and guides on the way to do this, and can get a list of films for a director or the director of a film, but when I try to do the same with an actor or a film’s cast, I get ‘null’ results. I have the same problem in both Python and the Freebase MQL Query Editor, and you can see what I've tried below.   • Status of Data in Rollback of Large Transaction in SQL Server

    I have a data warehousing procedure that downloads and replaces dozens of tables from a linked server to a local database. Every once in a while, the code will get stuck on one of the tables on the linked server because the table on the linked server is in a state of transition. I am under the assumption that since the entire procedure is considered one transaction commit, when the procedure gets stuck, none of the changes made by the procudure so far would have committed. But the opposite seems to be true, tables that were "downloaded" before the procedure got stuck would have been updated with today's versions on the local server. Shouldn't SQL Server wait for the entire procedure to finish before the changes are durable?   • GlassFish Security Realm, Active Directory and Referral

    I've setup up a Security Realm in Glassfish to authenticate against an Active Directory server. The configuration of the realm is as follows: Class Name: com.sun.enterprise.security.auth.realm.ldap.LDAPRealm JAAS context: ldapRealm Directory: ldap://172.16.76.10:389/ Base DN: dc=smallbusiness,dc=local search-filter: (&(objectClass=user)(sAMAccountName=%s)) group-search-filter: (&(objectClass=group)(member=%d)) search-bind-dn: cN=Administrator,CN=Users,dc=smallbusiness,dc=local search-bind-password: abcd1234! The realm is functional and I can log-in, but when ever I log in I get the following error in the log: SEC1106: Error during LDAP search with filter [(&(objectClass=group)(member=CN=Administrator,CN=Users,dc=smallbusiness,dc=local))]. SEC1000: Caught exception. javax.naming.PartialResultException: Unprocessed Continuation Reference(s); remaining name 'dc=smallbusiness,dc=local' at com.sun.jndi.ldap.LdapCtx.processReturnCode(LdapCtx.java:2820) .... .... ldaplm.searcherror While searching for a solution I found that it was recommended to add java.naming.referral=follow to the properties of the realm. However, after I add this it takes 20 minutes for GlassFish to authenticate against Active Directory. I suspect it is a DNS problem on the Active Directory server. The Active Directory server is a vanilla Windows Server 2003 setup in a Virtual Machine. Any help/recommendation is highly appreciated!

  • Javascript problems?

    I've been staring at the source code of these two download pages for awhile now and i can't seem to find the problem. I have two download pages, one where the javascript is working, one where it isnt. working: http://justupload.it/v/lfd7 not: http://justupload.it/v/ljhv The working one allows me to rotate the image and reveal the comments box by clicking on the comments button. The non-working one does not let me do that stuff. Can anyone help me find the problem or recommend a program to help me do it?

    Hi all, I'm facing a memory leak problem which is like this: I'm allocating an object of class A in class B. // RETAIN COUNT OF CLASS A OBJECT BECOMES 1 I'm placing the object in an nsmutablearray. // RETAIN COUNT OF CLASS A OBJECT BECOMES 2 In an another class C, I'm grabbing this nsmutablearray, fetching all the elements in that array in a local nsmutablearray, releasing this first array of class B. // RETAIN COUNT OF CLASS A OBJECTS IN LOCAL ARRAY BECOMES 1 Now in this class C, I'm creating an object of class A and fetching the elements in local nsmutable array. //RETAIN COUNT OF NEW CLASS A OBJECT IN LOCAL ARRAY BECOMES 2 [ALLOCATION + FETCHED OBJECT WITH RETAIN COUNT 1] My question is, I want to retain this array which I'm displaying in tableview, and want to release it after new elements are filled in the array. I'm doing this in class B. So before adding new elements, I'm removing all the elements and releasing this array in class B. And in class C I'm releasing object of class A in dealloc. But in Instruments-Leaks it's showing me leak for this class A object in class C. Can anybody please tell me wheather where I'm going wrong. Thanx in advance.

  • GHC 6.12 and MacPorts

    I recently installed GHC 6.12 and the Haskell Platform 2010.1.0.1 on my Intel MacBook running OS X 10.5.8, and initially, everything worked fine. However, I discovered that if I use cabal install to install a package which depends on a MacPorts library (e.g., cabal install --extra-lib-dirs=/opt/local/lib --extra-include-dirs=/opt/local/include gd), things work fine in GHCi, but if I try to compile, I get the error Linking test ... Undefined symbols: "_iconv_close", referenced from: _hs_iconv_close in libHSbase-4.2.0.0.a(iconv.o) "_iconv", referenced from: _hs_iconv in libHSbase-4.2.0.0.a(iconv.o) "_iconv_open", referenced from: _hs_iconv_open in libHSbase-4.2.0.0.a(iconv.o) ld: symbol(s) not found collect2: ld returned 1 exit status After some Googling, I found a long Haskell-cafe thread discussing this problem. The upshot seems to be that MacPorts installs an updated version of libiconv, and the binary interface is slightly different from the version included with the system. Consequently, if you try to link with any MacPorts library, the MacPorts libiconv gets linked in too; and since the base library was built to link against a different version of libiconv, things break. I've tried setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH and DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH and adding more flags to try to get it to look at /usr/lib again (e.g. cabal install --extra-lib-dirs=/opt/local/lib --extra-include-dirs=/opt/local/include --extra-lib-dirs=/usr/lib --extra-include-dirs=/usr/include gd), but neither worked. Uninstalling the MacPorts libiconv isn't really an option, since I have a bunch of ports installed which depend on it---including some ports I want Haskell to link to, like gd2. From what I've seen online, the upshot really seems to be "you're boned": you cannot link against any MacPorts library while compiling with GHC, and there doesn't seem to be a solution. However, that thread was from the end of 2009, so I figure there's a chance that someone has a solution, workaround, ridiculous hack… anything, really. So: does anybody know how to get GHC 6.12 to link against the system libiconv at the same time as it links to libraries from MacPorts? Or, failing that, a way to make linking not break in some other clever way?
