  • Why can I not access this class member in python?

    I have the following code class Transcription(object): WORD = 0 PHONE = 1 STATE = 2 def __init__(self): self.transcriptions = [] def align_transcription(self,model,target=Transcription.PHONE): pass The important part here is that I would like to have a class member as default value for a variable. This however gives the following error: NameError: name 'Transcription' is not defined Why is this not possible and what is the right (pythonic) way to do something like this.

  • UIVIewController not released when view is dismissed

    I have a main view, mainWindow, which presents a couple of buttons. Both buttons create a new UIViewController (mapViewController), but one will start a game and the other will resume it. Both buttons are linked via StoryBoard to the same View. They are segued to modal views as I'm not using the NavigationController. So in a typical game, if a person starts a game, but then goes back to the main menu, he triggers: [self dismissViewControllerAnimated:YES completion:nil ]; to return to the main menu. I would assume the view controller is released at this point. The user resumes the game with the second button by opening another instance of mapViewController. What is happening, tho, is some touch events will trigger methods on the original instance (and write status updates to them - therefore invisible to the current view). When I put a breakpoint in the mapViewController code, I can see the instance will be one or the other (one of which should be released). I have tried putting a delegate to the mainWindow clearing the view: [self.delegate clearMapView]; where in the mainWindow - (void) clearMapView{ gameWindow = nil; } I have also tried self.view=nil; in the mapViewController. The mapViewController code contains MVC code, where the model is static. I wonder if this may prevent ARC from releasing the view. The model.m contains: static CanShieldModel *sharedInstance; + (CanShieldModel *) sharedModel { @synchronized(self) { if (!sharedInstance) sharedInstance = [[CanShieldModel alloc] init]; return sharedInstance; } return sharedInstance; } Another post which may have a lead, but so far not successful, is UIViewController not being released when popped I have in ViewDidLoad: // checks to see if app goes inactive - saves.   • Where is the best place to put <script> tags in HTML markup?

    When embedding JavaScript in an HTML document, where is the best place to put the <script> tags and included JavaScript? I seem to recall that you are not supposed to place these in the <head> section, but placing at the beginning of the <body> section is bad, too, since the JavaScript will have to be parsed before the page is rendered completely (or something like that). This seems to leave the end of the <body> section as a logical place for <script> tags. So, where is the best place to put the <script> tags? (This question references this question, in which it was suggested that JavaScript function calls should be moved from <a> tags to <script> tags. I'm specifically using JQuery, but more general answers are also appropriate.)

How to 'catch' the field editor for this field on form editing.   • Checking an empty Core Data relationship (SQLite)

    I have a to-many relationship in my data model, and I'd like to get all the objects that have no corresponding objects in the relationship. For example: Customer - Purchases I want to get all Customers that have 0 Purchases. I've read somewhere that I could use "Purchases[SIZE] = 0", but this gives me an unsupported function expression error, which I think means it doesn't work with a SQLite backing store (which I don't want to switch from, due to some performance constraints). Any ideas?

  • What types of objects should the ViewModel reference in the MVVM pattern?

    I've seen quite a few examples of MVVM. I can see that the View should reference the ViewModel. I've seen recently an example of a ViewModel referencing a View, which seems wrong to me, as it would result in tighter coupling. Given that ViewModel is often described as an intermediary between the View and the Model, is there more to the ViewModel than a facade to domain objects? I hope I used the term "facade" correctly here.

    I have a logic situation that is best described as two "Teams" trying to win a task. The outcome of this task could be a single winner, a tie (draw), or no winner (stalemate). Currently, I'm using a nested if/else statement like so: // using PHP, but the concept seems language agnostic. if ($team_a->win()) { if ($team_b->win()) { // this is a draw } else { // team_a is the winner } } else { if ($team_b->win()) { // team_b is the winner } else { // This is a stalemate, no winner. } } This seems rather spaghetti-like and repetitive. I am trying to add the MoviesController, but whenever I do I receive an error that says... "Unable to retrieve metadata for 'MvcMovie.Models.Movie' unrecognized configuration section entityFramework (C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Temp\tmp4FFB.tmp line 76)" The last thing I did before this was change the Web.config file from the end of the previous page in the tutorial.

  • Simple explaination of Arraylists

    I'm new to programming and I'm looking for a simple answer to build my foundation of understanding Arrays. I've used google and searched this site. After a bit of trial and error I get how to make and reference Arrays like thing[3] gets you the fourth thing in the thing array(since 0 is the first). which lets me do something like thing[3].getStupidNumber() to get the StupidNumber of the 4th thing in the thing array. Then I get to ArrayLists which seem to have much more utility but I cant make logical sense of them like Arrays. When i search I cant find this or word this correctly and thus far everything else I've learned clicked easily. so say I make an ArrayList thing with 5 things in it. how do i get to the .getStupidNumber() method inside the fourth thing, if possible? I think if I learn this I can learn the rest on my own. Thanks!
