  • How to set ulimits in Solaris 10

    I normally use pam_limits.so and /etc/security/limits.conf to set ulimits on filesize/cputime etc for the regular users logging in to my server running Ubuntu. Can anyone give the best way of doing similar with Solaris 10. I think it is done using /etc/system but have no idea what to add to the file or indeed if it is the correct file. I'm particularly interested in setting up ulimit -f without going down the .profile route.

    I receive the following error when attempting to start apache through the init.d script: *apache2: Syntax error on line 186 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: Syntax error on line 4 of /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/auth_sm.conf: Cannot load /apps/netegrity/webagent/bin/libmod_sm22.so into server: libsmerrlog.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory* SiteMinder does not officially support Ubuntu, so I am having trouble finding any configuration documentation to help me troubleshoot this issue. I successfully installed the SiteMinder binaries and registered the trusted host with the server, but I am having trouble getting the apache mod to load correctly.     Hi there, I'm trying to get a local LAMP setup on my Ubuntu desktop.   • Enable VRFY verb in Exchange 2007

    Is there a way to enable the VRFY command on the Exchange server. I know this command is a security risk, but the server sits behind a firewall, and is not accessible from the internet. I would just use it as a in-box. The mail traffic would be forwarded from my home coded SMTP server, which would check for the existence of the exchange mailbox with the VRFY command. I only found this on the internet, but this is only for legacy versions of Exhange.

    I am trying to compile Nginx from source based on the original compiled Nginx server running on my DigitalOcean server ( Ubuntu-14.04 64x ) but with a few extra modules. I can get everything installed smoothly but I can not get it to start. I am sure the ini is correct because I copied the original source off the current running Nginx server [ Even though I see that Nginx now adds the ini when compiling fron source ]. And now to start the server: service nginx start And this is where s#!+ hits the fan - Nada. I check to see if Nginx is running with service --status-all and its not. Also with nginx -V and its not installed??? I reboot the system too and still nothing. So I am not sure what is wrong here. The ini was copied over from the old server along with all the other config files after deleting the old files. When I opened the new compiled files, the nginx default data was present so I replaced them with my old original data prior to starting the new server for the first time. Also to be safe, I rm /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default and symlinked with ln -s /etc/nginx/sites-available/default /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default with no errors and I verified that the data was in the sites-enabled/default file. I don't think the server really/fully installed because of the nginx -V result: The program 'nginx' can be found in the following packages: * nginx-core * nginx-extras * nginx-full * nginx-light * nginx-naxsi Try: apt-get install <selected package> Do/should I apt-get install nginx-1.7.4 ?? Or what package do I use being that its a custom package and make install earlier did nothing?? If you need to see the conf files I copied over from the old to the custom server, LMK and I'll post them. Again your help here would be appreciated!

  • Internet Explorer keeps asking for NTLM credentials in Intranet zone

    Long text, sorry for that. I'm trying to be as specific as possible. I'm on Windows 7 and I experience a very frustrating Internet Explorer 8 behavior. I'm in a company LAN with some intranet servers and a proxy for connecting with the outside world. On sites that are clearly recognized as being "Local Intranet" (as indicated in the IE status bar) I keep getting "Windows Security" dialog boxes that ask me to log in. These pages are served off an IIS6 with "Integrated Windows Security" enabled, NTFS permits Everyone:Read on the files themselves. If I enter my Windows credentials, the page loads fine. However, the dialog boxes will be popping up the next time, regardless if I ticked "Remember my credentials" or not. (Credentials are stored in the "Credential Manager" but that does not make any difference as to how often these login boxes appear.) If I click "Cancel", one of two things can happen: Either the page loads with certain resources missing (images, styleheets, etc), or it does not load at all and I get HTTP 401.2 (Unauthorized: Logon Failed Due to Server Configuration). This depends on whether the logon box was triggered by the page itself, or a referenced resource. The behavior appears to be completely erratic, sometimes the pages load smoothly, sometimes one resource triggers a logon message, sometimes it does not. Even simply re-loading the page can result in changed behavior. I'm using WPAD as my proxy detection mechanism. All Intranet hosts do bypass the proxy in the PAC file. I've checked every IE setting I can think of, entered host patterns, individual host names, IP ranges in every thinkable configuration to the "Local Intranet" zone, ticked "Include all sites that bypass the proxy server", you name it. It boils down to "sometimes it just does not work", and slowly I'm losing my mind. ;-) I'm aware that this is related to IE not automatically passing my NTLM credentials to the webserver but asking me instead. Usually this should only happen for NTLM-secured sites that are not recognized as being in the "Intranet" zone. As explained, this is not the case here. Especially since half of a page can load perfectly and without interruption and some page's resources (coming from the same server!) trigger the login message. I've looked at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/303650, which gives the impression of describing the problem, but nothing there seems to work. And frankly, I'm not certain if "manually editing the registry" is the right solution for this kind of problem. I'm not the only person in the world with an IE/intranet/IIS configuration, after all. I'm at a loss, can somebody give me a hint?

I can't create a directory named "mysql" or "testmysql" or add and commit a file named "mysql.txt" in my repository. There are many references to "subversion PROPSET 403 forbidden" problems in google and so on. But I can use all functions of subversion. I can also create a directory named "hugo" or "test". My repository works properly. Only "mysql" doesn't work.   • netsh wlan add profile not importing encrypted passphrase

    I exported a wireless network connection profile from a Windows 7 machine correctly connected to a WiFi network with a WPA-TKIP passphrase. The exported xml file shows the correct settings and a keyMaterial node which I can only guess is the encrypted passphrase. When I take the xml to another Windows 7 computer and import it using netsh wlan add profile filename="WiFi.xml", it correctly adds the profile's SSID and encryption type, but a balloon pops up saying that I need to enter the passphrase. Is there a way to import the passphrase along with all other settings or am I missing something about adding profiles?     I have 30 different RHEL 5.5 machines that will not update some 33 packages via Yum. Does anyone know why these packages will not install and how to correct this? What actually doesn't work as I expect is that username and password in the url are not recognized and the BASIC authorization form is displayed. Obviously it doesn't work from a third party application point of view, I need to pass those variables as GET request. Any suggestion?

    Hello! I have a web server based on Ubuntu Server 9.10 with this software: apache 2 PHP 5.3 MySQL 5 Python 2.5 Few of my websites are PHP based, few use python/django through mod_wsgi. For month or so, every day my apache server stops responding until I manually restart it.     I need a basic FTP server on Linux (CentOS 5.5) without any security measure, since the server and the clients are located on a test LAN, not connected to the rest of the network, which itself uses non-routable IP's behind a NAT firewall with no incoming access to FTP. Some people recommend Vsftpd over PureFTPd or ProFTPd.     I have an internal windows authenticated website that I need to expose anonymously to external users. extern: http://foo.com/ (public) intern: http://privatefoo/ (requires windows auth) I want people hitting foo.com to see no security prompt, just get access to privatefoo - I know this is possible in a simple reverse proxy setup but does anyone know how to make the proxy provide windows credentials?

  • Hide usernames shown on Windows Server 2008 Remote Desktop login screen

    When I remote desktop to my Windows Server 2008 (a hosted virtual server) I see a login screen showing an icon for each user in the system. I can click on a user then enter a password and login. This is a terrible security oversight in my opinion as it gives anyone that might want to compromise my server a full list of valid usernames. Is there a way to revert to the old style of login screen requiring both username and password? Thanks

  • Apache Reverse Proxy not working inside a VirtualHost running a Mono Web Application

    I have a mono web application running with this virtual host below. It is running on Apache 2.2.20 / Ubuntu 11.10. I tried to add a reverse proxy inside this virtualhost so I can make asynchronous or AJAX type calls back to this same domain. My asynchronous requests would have problems in many browsers calling services that are on another domain (cross domain requests problem). I am wanting to do reverse proxy calls to this other service using http://www.whatever.com/monkey/. So, I added the directive and top directive to try to make this work. It is weird though...nothing I do seems to have any effect. I can put the exact same markup in my default website virtualhost file and it works great. What is the deal?
