  • Aggregate SQL column values by time period

    I have some numerical data that comes in every 5 minutes (i.e. 288 values per day, and quite a few days worth of data). I need to write a query that can return the sums of all values for each day. So currently the table looks like this: 03/30/2010 00:01:00 -- 553 03/30/2010 00:06:00 -- 558 03/30/2010 00:11:00 -- 565 03/30/2010 00:16:00 -- 565 03/30/2010 00:21:00 -- 558 03/30/2010 00:26:00 -- 566 03/30/2010 00:31:00 -- 553 ... And this goes on for 'x' number of days, I'd like the query to return 'x' number of rows, each of which containing the sum of all the values on each day. Something like this: 03/30/2010 -- <sum> 03/31/2010 -- <sum> 04/01/2010 -- <sum> The query will go inside a Dundas webpart, so unfortunately I can't write custom user functions to assist it. All the logic needs to be in just the one big query. Any help would be appreciated, thanks. I'm trying to get it to work using GROUP BY and DATEPART at the moment, not sure if it's the right way to go about it.

    Hi there, If I have the report name how can I programmatically get the name of the project/folder the report is in? So for example if I have a report like so http://server/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=/ReportProject1/ReportName Given "ReportName" how can I figure out that the report is in the folder "ReportProject1"? So I guess is there a function where I can pass int he report name and get it's details or else query the report server for a list of its report folders and I can loop through these and check some how that the report is inside?

What I need is to do something like: select id, getQtyFromID(id) as qty from table The main idea is to execute a query stored in a table cell, this is because the qty of something depends on it's unit. the unit can be days or it can be metric tons, so there is no relation between the units, therefore the need of a specific query for each unit.

    I'm hoping for an idea on the best way to approach what I'm trying to do. I have a table with a list of transactions. Each transactions has a PostDate in DateTime format. I have another table holding the fiscal period values. This table has the following columns; FiscalYear, FiscalMonth, StartDate, EndDate. I'm trying to write a query that will return all values from my transactions table, along with the FiscalYear and FiscalMonth of the PostDate. So I guess I'm just trying to return the FiscalYear and FiscalMonth values when the PostDate falls between the StartDate and EndDate. I've tried using a Subbuery, but I have little experience with them and kept returning an error message that the subquery was returning more than 1 value.     I have a very big table with a lot of rows, every row has stats for every user for certain days. And obviously I don't have any stats for future. So to update the stats I use UPDATE Stats SET Visits=@val WHERE ... a lot of conditions ... AND Date=@Today But what if the row doesn't exist? I'd have to use INSERT INTO Stats (...) VALUES (Visits=@val, ..., Date=@Today) How can I check if the row exists or not? Is there any way different from doing the COUNT(*)? If I fill the table with empty cells, it'd take hundreds of thousands of rows taking megabytes and storing no data.

    I have a column using a BIT type (1/0). I have some records are set to 1 and some are set to 0. Those are record flag needs to be reversed. So basically, I want all records with 1 set 0, and all records with 0 set to 1. If I run "Update Table1 Set Flag = 1 Where Flag = 0" first, then I am afraid all record flags will be 1 now, and will not able to know which ones are flag = 0. any suggestions, Thanks!

    I have a table, Foo. I run a query on Foo to get the ids from a subset of Foo. I then want to run a more complicated set of queries, but only on those IDs. Is there an efficient way to do this? The best I can think of is creating a query such as: SELECT ... --complicated stuff WHERE ... --more stuff AND id IN (1, 2, 3, 9, 413, 4324, ..., 939393) That is, I construct a huge "IN" clause. Is this efficient? Is there a more efficient way of doing this, or is the only way to JOIN with the inital query that gets the IDs? If it helps, I'm using SQLObject to connect to a PostgreSQL database, and I have access to the cursor that executed the query to get all the IDs.

The user may not have a ticket associated with them, in this case I know that i just need to return null. The two tables that I am working with are defined as follows: User ---- UserName, FirstName, LastName Ticket ------ ID, CompletionDateTime, AssignedTo, AssignmentDate, StatusID TicketStatus ------------ ID, Comments I have created a stored procedure in which I am trying to return the last completed ticket for a comma-delimited list of usernames. Each record needs to include the comments associated with it. Currently, I'm trying the following: CREATE TABLE #Tickets ( [UserName] nvarchar(256), [FirstName] nvarchar(256), [LastName] nvarchar(256), [TicketID] int, [DateCompleted] datetime, [Comments] text ) -- This variable is actually passed into the procedure DECLARE @userList NVARCHAR(max) SET @userList='user1,user2,user2' -- Obtain the user information for each user INSERT INTO #Tickets ( [UserName], [FirstName], [LastName] ) SELECT u.[UserName], u.[FirstName], u.[LastName] FROM User u INNER JOIN dbo.ConvertCsvToTable(@userList) l ON u.UserName=l.item At this point, I have the username, first and last name for each user passed in. However, I do not know how to actually get the last ticket completed for each of these users. How do I do this? I believe I should be updating the temp table I have created.
