• Flexible forms and supporting database structure

  I have been tasked with creating an application that allows administrators to alter the content of the user input form (i.e. add arbitrary fields) - the contents of which get stored in a database. Think Modx/Wordpress/Expression Engine template variables. The approach I've been looking at is implementing concrete tables where the specification is consistent (i.e. user profiles, user content etc) and some generic field data tables (i.e. text, boolean) to store non-specific values. Forms (and model fields) would be generated by first querying the tables and retrieving the relevant columns - although I've yet to think about how I would setup validation. I've taken a look at this problem, and it seems to be indicating an EAV type approach - which, from my brief research - looks like it could be a greater burden than the blessings it's flexibility would bring. I've read a couple of posts here, however, which suggest this is a dangerous route: How to design a generic database whose layout may change over time? The aim is to be able to replace HTML tags in the template e.g.; <!-- component:customer-login --> with; <?php component_customer_login(); ?> I also need to call pre-render methods of the "Customer" class to validate forms before output is made etc. If anyone can think of a better way, please let me know but in the first instance, I'd like to know why I get the "Fatal error" mentioned above.   I use SonataMediaBundle and i would like sort Gallery by created_at field. • How do I access the names of VB6 modules from code?

  Hi All - It is unlikely that there is an answer for this one, but I'm asking anyway. I am currently maintaining some code, which is likely to be refactored soon. Before that happens, I want to make the standard error handling code, which is injected by an Add-In, more efficient and take up less space. One thing that annoys me is that every module has a constant called m_ksModuleName that is used to construct a big string, which is then rethrown from the error handler so we can trace the error stack. This is all template code, i.e. repetivitve, but I could easily strip it down to a procedure call. Now, I have fixed the code so that you can pass the Me reference to the procedure - but you can't do that for the BAS modules. Nor can you access the project name (the part which would be passed as part of a ProgramID, for instance) - although you get given it when you raise an error yourself. All these strings are contained in the EXE, DLL or OCX - believe me, I've used a debugger to find them. But how can I access these in code? -- Mark Bertenshaw

• Rails: Rendered JS file doesn't execute using UJS

  I would like to display a Rails edit form using JS instead of redirecting with HTML. To do this, I use UJS for the edit link: <%= link_to "Edit user info", edit_user_path(1), :remote => true %> Then, the "edit" action of User controller is like this (simplified version): controllers/users_controller.rb: def edit # Step 1: Get the edit HTML form @html = render_to_string(:template => "users/edit.html") # Step 2: Use JS to display the form in the correct place render "users/edit.js" end As you may guess, I have two views: The html version of "edit" action which contains the form in HTML format. Let's consider a test version: views/users/edit.html.erb: <h1>This is just a test</h1> The js version that will display the form in the correct place, using jQuery for example. Again, for test purpose, let's just popup the html text: views/users/edit.js.erb: alert("<%= @html %>"); The problem is that nothing is executed (no popup) Using the inspector (from Chrome web browser), I get the response as text format: alert("<h1>This is just a test</h1>"); Do you have any idea?   Thanks in advance for you help Ive been doing this as a lovejob for friends and now im getting quotes of several hundred dollars for minor homepage variation and I'm not sure if its valid. I'm not a programmer myself, just trying hard :) Via the CafePress press75 theme, I'm trying to go from 1 / 2 / 3 column home layout, to 1-2 merged and 3, push the 2nd column data to the right and have the 1st column span as a 16:9 gallery (nextgengallery plugin installed). Is this really a complex thing from a coding perspective? The current guy talking to me is saying its going to cost $700 or 800 AUD to alter, which is rough when the template cost $85.. From this http://shocolate.com.au.previewdns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/shocolatecurrent.jpg to this 'url+Shocolatelooklikethis.jpg' I was able to get the sidebar removed by taking out ‘‘ near the bottom of home.css.. Just can’t get the middle data to flow over it? This would be ideal as a result, as the system puts the latest selected blog post on the homepage, so if we can get rid of the sidebar div and have the text appear where it was, that would be ideal. Removing the sidebar from the bottom of home.php and setting the thumbnail width to say 450 gives me the result im after EXCEPT the text doesn’t fill where the sidebar is, it wraps underneath. • C++ compiler unable to find function (namespace related)

  I'm working in Visual Studio 2008 on a C++ programming assignment. We were supplied with files that define the following namespace hierarchy (the names are just for the sake of this post, I know "namespace XYZ-NAMESPACE" is redundant): (MAIN-NAMESPACE){ a bunch of functions/classes I need to implement... (EXCEPTIONS-NAMESPACE){ a bunch of exceptions } (POINTER-COLLECTIONS-NAMESPACE){ Set and LinkedList classes, plus iterators } } The MAIN-NAMESPACE contents are split between a bunch of files, and for some reason which I don't understand the operator<< for both Set and LinkedList is entirely outside of the MAIN-NAMESPACE (but within Set and LinkedList's header file). Here's the Set version: template<typename T> std::ostream& operator<<(std::ostream& os, const MAIN-NAMESPACE::POINTER-COLLECTIONS-NAMESPACE::Set<T>& set) Now here's the problem: I have the following data structure: Set A Set B Set C double num It's defined to be in a class within MAIN-NAMESPACE. When I create an instance of the class, and try to print one of the sets, it tells me that: error C2679: binary '<<' : no operator found which takes a right-hand operand of type 'const MAIN-NAMESPACE::POINTER-COLLECTIONS-NAMESPACE::Set' (or there is no acceptable conversion) However, if I just write a main() function, and create Set A, fill it up, and use the operator- it works. Any idea what is the problem? (note: I tried any combination of using and include I could think of).

• How to invoke make install for one subdirectory of Qt project

  I'm working on custom library and I wish users could just use it by adding: CONFIG += mylib to their pro files. This can be done by installing mylib.prf file to %QTDIR%/mkspec/features. I've checked out in Qt Mobility project how to create and install such file, but there is one thing I'd like to do differently. If I correctly understood the pro/pri files of Qt Mobility, inside the example projects they don't really use CONFIG += mobility, instead they add QtMobility sources to include path and share the *.obj directory with main library project. For my library I'd like to have examples that are as independent projects as possible, i.e. projects that can be compiled from anywhere once MyLib is compiled and installed. I have following directory structure: mylib | |- examples |- src |- tests \- mylib.pro It seems that the easiest way to achieve what I described above is creating mylib.pro like this: TEMPLATE = subdirs SUBDIRS += src SUBDIRS += examples tests:SUBDIRS += tests And somehow enforce invoking "cd src && make install" after building src. What is the best way to do this? Of course any other suggestions for automatic library deployment before examples compilation are welcome.

• Magento help with creating model in custom class

  I'm trying to add some custom filter methods to my magento module. I though it would be simple but I can't figure out why it's not working. My model which extends the catalog/product class contains this: public function filterProdType($prod_id) { $this->addAttributeToFilter('attribute_set_id', $prod_id); } Then in my template I have this: $collection = Mage::getModel('configurator/product')->getCollection()->addAttributeToSelect('*'); $collection->filterProdType(50)->addAttributeToFilter('type_id', 'bundle'); foreach ($collection as $item){ echo $item->getName() . ', '; } Just to try things out. But I don't get any results, no error, and it doesn't finish rendering the page (missing footer). When I do this instead, it works: $collection = Mage::getModel('configurator/product')->getCollection()->addAttributeToSelect('*'); $collection->addAttributeToFilter('attribute_set_id', 50)->addAttributeToFilter('type_id', 'bundle'); foreach ($collection as $item){ echo $item->getName() . ', '; } I'm just wondering what I'm missing. UPDATE: I didn't realize error reporting was turned off, after turning it on I get the error: Fatal error: Call to undefined method Mage_Catalog_Model_Resource_Eav_Mysql4_Product_Collection::filterProdType() I assumed after instantiating $collection using my custom model, it would find my new method.

• HTML relative links on various domains

  I have quickie: When you code/develop themes, how do you link to various files in your html/css code? Example: We at our firm use mostly <base target="http://whatever"> in our main template and then just <img src="./images/file.png"> in our html, "/category/page" as links and something alike in our css. However, when testing on different machines, we use ip address rather than localhost on main dev station of coder, so all base links don't work (because localhost goes to viewing machine, not coder's, in our network). Same thing happens when updating pages - on dev server, we have to edit base target, so browsing site won't take us to live site - this part is actually rather simple PHP (if ... echo else echo something else), but it still not solve problem of more coding-testing problems. So, my question is, how do YOU solve it? How do you use relative links, which basically don't care for what domain is the page on and don't care for url rewrite? (because ../images/ is different for / and different for /something/somethingElse/page)?

Have I to do some big structure in my view (with all related tables), cache it and send to template?

• N Tiers with SubSonic 3, Dirty Columns collection is alwayes empty on update

  Hello guys here is what i am doing, and not working for me. I have a DAL generated with SubSonic 3 ActiveRecord template, i have a service layer (business layer if you well) that have mixture of facade and some validation. say i have a method on the Service layer like public void UpdateClient(Client client); in my GUI i create a Client object fill it with some data with ID and pass it to the service method and this never worked, the dirty columns collection (that track which columns are altered in order to use more efficant update statment) is alwayes empty. if i tried to get the object from database inside my GUI then pass it to the service method it's not working either. the only scenario i find working is if i query the object from the database and call Update() on the same context all inside my GUI and this defeats the whole service layer i've created. however for insert and delete everything working fine, i wonder if this have to do something with object tracking but what i know is SubSonic don't do that. please advice. thanks. Another solution would be to use malloc and free, but that gives a level of indirection that I do not want.

These libraries are compiled with MSVC compiler. My qt Creator is using MinGW compiler to compile my application. I copied the .h and .lib file to my qt project directory and then added those in .pro file as follows QT += core gui TARGET = MyTest TEMPLATE = app LIBS += C:\Qt\2010.05\qt\MyTest\newApi.lib SOURCES += main.cpp\ mainwindow.cpp HEADERS += mainwindow.h \ newApi.h FORMS += mainwindow.ui Now I am getting some runtime error like this - Starting C:\Qt\2010.05\qt\MyTest-build-desktop\debug\MyTest.exe... C:\Qt\2010.05\qt\MyTest-build-desktop\debug\MyTest.exe exited with code -1073741515 Can any body suggest is this runtime error is due to mismatch of compiler? (because of my .lib file I added is comipled in MSVC compiler and my qt app is compiled using MinGW compiler) If not what may be the reason? Am I missing anything in adding the .h and .lib file to my qt project? If my MinGW compiler will not support the .lib file generated in MSVC compiler what may be the work-arround? Can I create the .lib files in MinGW compiler? or this format is supported only by MSVC compiler only? Please suggest...

• Combining XmlWriter objects?

  The way my application is structured, each component generates output as XML and returns an XmlWriter object. Before rendering the final output to the page, I combine all XML and perform an XSL transformation on that object. Below, is a simplified code sample of the application structure. Does it make sense to combine XmlWriter objects like this? Is there a better way to structure my application? • Is there a search engine that indexes source code of a web-page?

  I need to search the web for sites that are in our industry that use the same Adwords management company, to ensure that the said company is not violating our contract, as they have been accused of doing. They use a tracking code in the template of every page which has a certain domain in the URL, and I'm wondering if it's possible "Google" the source code using some bot that crawls the code rather than the content? For example, I bought an unlimited license for an image gallery, and I was asked to type the license number in a comment just before the script. I thought it was just so a human could look at the source and find out if someone paid, but it turned out that it was actually that they had a crawler looking for their source code and that comment. If it ran across the code on your site, it would look for the comment, and if it found one, it would check to see if it was an existing one. If not, it would first notify you of your noncompliance, and then notify the owner of the script. Edit: I'm looking to index HTML and JavaScript only, not the server-side languages or Java.

The first problem is that calling a function [numData, textData, rawData] = xlsread('testData.csv') creates an empty matrix numData and one-column textData and rawData structures. Is it possible to create any template which recognizes a yyyy, MM, dd, hh, mm, ss values from the data above? What I would basically like to do with these data is to categorize the values by hours so from the example row of input: 2010-04-20 15:15:00,"8.9915176259e+00","8.8562623697e+00" update 1: in Matlab the line above is recognized as a string: '2010-04-26 13:00:00,"1.0428104753e+00","2.3456394130e+00"' I would want this to be the output: 15, 8.9915176259e+00, 8.8562623697e+00 update 1: a string has to be parsed Does anyone know how to parse a string and retrieve a timestamp, value1 (1.0428104753e+00) and value2 (2.3456394130e+00) from it as separate values?
