• How to monitor the size of files in Windows folder?

  What are some of good ways to automatically monitor the size of files in a directory and send warning email if they get close to a certain limit on a Windows server? I have a Progress DB installation to keep in check, and last week we hit some problems. Apparently, the size of extents has hit 2GB - and Progress won't work past that - we needed to open a new extent. I'm coming from a Linux environment, so I don't know what are the usual to monitor this in a Windows environment (or monitoring tools whatsoever). I prefer some generic solution, as I have a mixed environment (Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008 R2). Thanks in advance for all usable alternative answers.

• archive all messages account on exchange 2003 receiving multiple copies

  Hello everyone I am using microsoft exchange 2003 on windows 2003 small business server. For the past month or so, the archiver account has been receiving multiple copies (about 15 or so) of each and every email. edit: All copies share the same Message ID. The machine that hosts exchange is updated religiously and an antivirus scan is run on a daily basis. So would anyone please have any ideas about how to deal with this and furthermore, how i would be able to delete the multiple copies of emails from outlook 2003 inbox. • Can qmail-ldap replace the validrcptto file?

  We are using qmail to route incoming mail to our Domino server. However, that requires us to maintain the validrcptto with the list of all allowed email addresses. Since Domino provides an LDAP directory, does qmail-ldap provide functionnality to lookup valid rcpt to addresses in the Domino directory instead of the validrcptto file, so that we wouldn't have to maintain that extra list ? We have about 150~200 users, so is setting up qmail-ldap worth the extra mile if it can verify addresses in the LDAP directory ? If anyone has experience with qmail-ldap and its setup, I'd be glad to hear from you.

• Outlook 2007 attachments wont preview

  When I get an email with an attachment in Outlook 2007 that I should be able to preview (ie - image, word doc, etc) I get the following error: This file cannot be previewed because of an error in the following previewer: Microsoft Outlook image previewer To open this file in its own program double-click it. (obviously the previewer changes name depending on the type) The computer is a clean install (it's only 5 days old) and I remember I was at one point able to preview within Outlook. I'd really like this feature to be back working, I've tried the usual exit Outlook, restart Windows, etc but to no avail.

• Emails Generated From Our Linux Server are Blocked By Our Exchange Server (That Has Barracuda)

  We have our company website hosted on a Linux machine. It is sending mail via postfix. The emails are working and being sent to all email clients like Gmail. However, we are not receiving the emails on our exchange server. When we look at the logs, we see that the connection is being refused, presumably by the exchange server. postfix/qmgr[11865]: DA6D42FF13: from=<[email protected]>, size=3166, nrcpt=1 (queue active) postfix/smtp[12474]: connect to mail.sanitizeddomain.com[XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX]:25: Connection refused postfix/smtp[12474]: DA6D42FF13: to=<[email protected]>, relay=none, delay=172915, delays=172914/0.03/0.07/0, dsn=4.4.1, status=deferred (connect to mail.sanitizeddomain.com[XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX]:25: Connection refused) We do run Barracuda. We cannot telnet from the linux machine to our mail server b/c we get the same message.

  How do tell an application to open in a specific workspace? More info: I like to have my C++ IDE in workspace 2, my Java IDE in workspace 3, and my email, browser and miscellaneous in workspace four. I also use a shell script that executes upon log in: #!/bin/bash gnome-terminal & # WS 1 netbeans-6-9-1 & # WS2 qtcreator-2-0-1 & # WS 3 firefox & # WS 4 thunderbird & # WS 4 Of course currently it all opens in the curent workspace...   Hi All, Is it possible to emulate my customer production environment inside my AD domain by just creating the same domain inside my primary DNS server ? Can I created mycustomer.com DNS zone (STUB) just for the sake of listing few database servers and application servers and then for the other DNS records eg. MX, NS and the other refer to the REAL MX record entry so that my Exchange Server email flow is unaffected to mycustomer.com ? because if I just create A record in my current domain for some of the servers, the FQDN is not exactly what I want. • Grandma's Computer - Can a user that belongs only to the "Users" group in Windows XP install malware, virus or IE addons?

  I am trying to figure out if having a user in the "Users" group will be enough to prevent her from install unwanted software. The things that I don't want the user to be able to install are: virus malware bandoo stuff Internet Explorer Addons To put you in context, I am thinking of my grandma's computer, I want her to be able to read all her email stuff and attachments, but without the hassle of needing to reinstall the whole computer every few months. The computer will run Windows XP, with some free antivirus. It will not be part of any domain. It is just a home computer. Linux, I have tried making her use it, but she was already accustomed to Windows and was not really an option to have her re-learn where was the shutdown button. So, are these considerations enough to prevent her installing unwanted software? What other options come to you mind? Thanks

• Gmail exchange settings for desktop mail clients?

  So I have an ipad, and I have my gmail account there configured via Microsoft Exchange... I don't know a lot about the underlying technologies, but using exchange is mind blowingly awesome... I mean, I receive mail INSTANTLY, and to be able to sync things like my calendars and my contacts at the same time, its just amazing... So enough gloating, and onwards to the real problem... How do I do the same thing on my Mac? Any email client will do... I've tried both, the built in Mac Mail (4.5) app, as well as Outlook for Mac 2011... And I can't get it to work on either...

• Disable page cache on a specific page

  Hi, Not sure if I really am on the right forum, but if not, just tell me. I have a page that is coded in ASP (not .net) which is used to send email. We are currently having a problem in which the page seem to be sent twice sometime. Upon checking, we found out that those who have this problem are coming from big organisation, so it was suggested that their server might cache the file for some reason. I would like to know, is there a way in HTML (or ASP ) to prevent that from happening ? Or is it in IIS that we must set this up ? Thanks,

• How to archive Exchange mailboxes remotely?

  We have an environment that is based on an Active Directory domain (running Windows Server 2003 SP2), an internal email system using Exchange Server 2003 (internal mailbox, nothing online), and the clients run a mixture of MS Outlook 2007&2010, with the majority running 2007. Recently we noticed that Exchange server is taking so much space for mailboxes. We are examining some solutions to reduce space, and it seems that we could make use of the archiving feature to archive older messages. I can set the auto-archive option manually for every individual user, but is there any other easier way to automate that task? Is there any feature in exchange server or active directory domain that enables setting that as a kind of policy or something similar, or a script to be scheduled to run by all users?

• Exchange unable to relay mail outbound

  I have some users congigured in exchange 2003 (delivery options tab) to forward mails to their external address. This was working fine until today. The mails are being held up in the SMTP queue folder. I am able telnet the addresses (e.g. google.com) at port 25 from the server. Any reason why the mails are held up? Other emails are going ou. It's only the mailboxes configured to forward the mail out to the public email addresses. I also did the following Check event logs for errors. Nothing. Checked my domain on blacklists. Nothing. Any idesa?

• How can we monitor a HTTPS URL?

  A couple of our recent customers have had their applications configured for HTTPS only. Currently we are using a tool which does a good job of monitoring customers' app-server state. For the existing customers, HTTP URLs also work, so the tool can monitor the health. But the recent one have only the HTTPS enabled so the tool fails automatically. To this end, I am looking for a tool which would monitor the app-server state and send email to the group. Simple monitoring like checking to see if the app-server is up or not is all I would need. But more features are also definitely helpful. Thanks!

  I am aware that websites can be translated from many languages into English thanks to Google Translate. If I receive documentation via email that is in a language other than English, how straight forward is it to translate into English on my PC or Apple Mac? (indeed is Google Translate involved or is it strictly for websites) Similarly if I receive documentation via the normal postal mail service (termed "snail mail" if I'm correct) which needs to be translated into English, what steps need to be taken for this documentation to be translated effectively & quickly on my PC or Apple Mac (I am aware of the term Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software, and is this costly, or do free alternatives exist to carry out the translation process solely online? ).

  What access rights should an employee grant an employer for a work computer? For instance, let's assume that the business people come to the IT lab late at night for discussions with the CIO and they use my computer for reading email and general web surfing. In a sense, this means that they are taking full or partial responsibility for any security issues that crop up that get traced back to the employee's machine. Perhaps the proper way to provide a computer to an employee is to give him full and exclusive use of it while employed. Only supervised access (such as hardware/software maintenance) should be acceptable.

• Terminal mail delivery delay in Mac OS X

  I'm using mail from the Mac OS X terminal to send the results of a database query to me via email. Most of the time it works, but sometimes there is a long delay before the mail arrives (often when another similar script is run). It looks like there is some kind of send queue, but I can't find any documentation mentioning this. Is there something I need to do to flush mail from the terminal? UPDATE: Sometimes delivery doesn't even seem to happen, though I get no errors at the console. Very weird.

On this envirnoment there is already a Mail server though which we can send and receive mail (this mail server is limiting us to a very small number of emails/day). Now we have setup a VPS (virtual private server) on which we installed Postfix, which sole porpuse is to send emails on behalf of domain aaa.com. • Reducing CPU load to absolute minimum [on hold]

  I have had a couple of things gone missing I believe stolen in my shared apartment and want to run my laptop constantly with a webcam attached, running webcam surveillance software to record/ take pictures when motion is sensed. Id like to take whatever steps are necessary to be able to run the laptop constantly without the fan coming on, as its quite loud and even though it will be hidden it can be heard. Thus Id like to know what steps I can take to reduce CPU to the bare minimum for the laptop to boot up and run the camera software and send images via ftp / email when necessary. I have windows 7 installed, though I can reinstall it clean. Which are the windows services can I turn off, and more extreme disabling or measures of whatever kind which I can take. The OS would need to run the camera, wifi / networking. Thanks very much for any help.

  I'm writing a Perl script to run as a cron job, and I want to email results & errors to a local account on the laptop. I'd like something that can talk SMTP (do any MTAs not adhere to SMTP?). I use Thunderbird 3, so I'll also need a POP/IMAP server (unless T-Bird can read straight from an mbox file; I'll have to check into that).   Hi everyone. I'm doing some experiements with adding OpenID to something I'm working on, and I'd like to test out a few providers. Is there a server out there that will go through the OpenID login process (same way that the StackOverflow group does) and tell me all the information the provider shows. I imagine it would work like... I go to example.com and type in https://www.google.com/accounts/o8/id example.com bounces me to google. I log in. Google asks me to confirm if I allow example.com access to everything. Google bounces me back to example.com example.com tells me my OpenID, email address, anything else it's got. Does such a thing please already exist?

• How to synchonise address books across multiple PC's

  I am using Thunderbird 15.0.1 on two different Windows computers (Vista and Win 7). I maintain the email list for a local club, and often need to send out emails to all members from my home and office Pc's. I use a Thunderbird Address Book to maintain a list of club members and would like any changes made to that list to synchronise to both machines. Can anyone recommend a good way of doing this? I've found a couple of extensions that claim to do this, but both seem to have review that suggest they no longer function correctly since they are quite old extensions.   I need to be able to track Web Sites visited on a computer and send them to an email address on a daily basis. Keylogger software seems like too much, I want something lightweight that simply monitors websites visited and forwards them on. • Windows7 home 64bit + Outlook 2010, multiple non-concurrent users

  We have one windows computer shared by eight people. I have set up separate login accounts for each user. One account has administrative privileges, the others are standard users. We installed Outlook 2010 with the intention that each user could access their own email separately, without seeing the mail of other users. This has not worked as we intended. When the administrator logs in to each standard user account and starts the outlook mail setup, he is prompted for the administrative password, and then sets up the mail account. When accessing the outlook mail program after setup, each mail account shows as a separate tab in a communal inbox, rather than a separate mail box for each user. How would we accomplish the desired separation of Outlook mail accounts? Thanks for your advice Jim T.
