  • How To Securly Store Data In MySQL Using AES_ENCRYPT

    We are storing sensitive data in MySQL, and I want to use AES_ENCRYPT(data, 'my-secret-key-here') which works great. My biggest question is how do I secure the key? Previously I just wast storing the key in a web PHP file, so something like: define("ENCRYPTION_KEY", 'my-secret-key-here'); This really doesn't work though, as our MySQL server and web server are the same physical machine, so if somebody gains access to the server, they can get both the encrypted data stored in MySQL and the key. Any ideas? I am thinking I need to move the key to a separate server, and read it in remotely. Or, what about generating the encryption key dynamically for each piece of data. For example taking the customer_id and running md5 on it, and then using that as the key.

    I have a web app where I need to change a drop down list dynamically depending on another drop down list. I have two options: Get all the data beforehand with PHP and "manage" it later with Javascript. Or get the data the user wants through AJAX. The thing is, that the page loads with all the data by default and the user can later select a sub category to narrow the drop downs. Which of the two options are better (faster, less resource intensive)?

    I have a general comprehension issue with classes and objects. What I'm trying to do is pretty simple but I'm getting errors. In the code example below, sometimes the line "Call tables.MethodInCTables" runs fine and sometimes it produces error 91, object not set. IN all cases, I can "see" the method in the type ahead so I know that the code recognizes the "tables" instance and "sees" MethodInCTables. But then I get the run-time error.   • WD MBWE II (White Strip Light) 2TB - unable to access data

    I have a WD MBWE II (White Strip Light) 2TB - (WD20000H2NC-00) Was working fine until a few days ago. I guess there was a power failure and after that I am unable to access the 'Public' or the 'Download' folder anymore. I have been searching for answers everywhere but came up empty handed. Web GUI still works, SSH works. I hooked up both the drives on my PC and UFS Explorer sees the drive. But so far I am unable to retrieve any of my data. I do not remember what RAID setting I used when I first got the drive. I can see from GUI that it is set as "Stripe". The drive contains 10 years of family pictures which I really do not want to loose. Sadly and stupidly, I didn't even keep a backup of this drive. Can somebody please help or point me in the right direction. Thank you in advance for your help. Disk Utility on Ubuntu reports 1405 bad sectors on one drive. How can I retrieve my data? Please help.     Hi, I tried to move my mysql data dir from one disk to another, I modified the datadir parameter in my.cnf, but when XAMPP, and more precisely, MySQL starts, this error is displayed and MySQL doesn't run. Operation could not be completed. (XAMPPErrorDomain error 1.) What's the problem here? I correctly specified the new path.
