• Is there any alternative to obfuscation to make it harder to get any string in javascript?

  I use DropBox and I've had some trouble reaching to my files from other computers: I not always want to login to anything when I'm in a public computer, but I like being able to reach my stuff from wherever I am. So I've made a simple little application that when put in the public folder, ran and given the right UID, creates (still in your public folder) an HTML of all the content in the folder (including subfolders) as a tree of links. But I didn't risk loading it anywhere, since there are slightly private things in there (yes, I know that the folder's name is "PUBLIC"). So I've came up with the idea to make it a simple login page, given the right password, the rest of the page should load. brilliant!, but how? If I did this by redirecting to other HTML on the same folder, I'd still put the html link in the web history and the "url's accessed" history of the administrator. So I should generate itin the same page. I've done it. And currently the page is a textbox and a button, and only if you type in the right password (asked by the generator) the rest of the page loads. The fault is that everything (password, URL's) is easily reachable through the sourcecode. Now, assuming I only want to avoid silly people to get it all too easily, not make a bulletproof all-content-holding NSA certified website, I though about some ways to make these informations a bit harder to get. As you may have already figured, I use a streamwritter to write a .HTM file (head, loop through links, bottom), then it's extremely configurable, and I can come up with a pretty messy-but-working c# code, though my javascript knowledge is not that good. Public links in DropBox look like this: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3045472/img.png Summarizing: How do I hide stuff (MAINLY the password, of course) in my source-code so that no bumb-a-joe that can read, use a computer and press CTRL+U can reach to my stuff too easily ? PS.: It's not that personal, if someone REALLY wants it, it could never be 100% protected, and if it was that important, I wouldnt put it in the public folder, also, if the dude really wants to get it that hard, he should deserve it. PS2.: "Use the ultra-3000'tron obfuscator!!11" is not a real answer, since my javascript is GENERATED by my c# program. PS3.: I don't want other solutions as "use a serverside application and host it somewhere to redirect and bla bla" or "compress the links in a .RAR file and put a password in it" since I'm doing this ALSO to learn, and I want the thrill of it =)

• a4j:support within a rich:modalPanel

  Hi all, I've hit a wall. I know the a4j and rich tags pretty well (I use Seam 2.2.0 and Richfaces 3.3.1). However, I'm trying to do something quite simple, but in a rich:modalPanel. It seems that rich:modalPanels do not allow Ajax events to be fired. Here's a simple breakdown: I have a h:selectOneMenu with some items in it and whose value is attached to a backing bean. Attached to that h:selectOneMenu is a a4j:support tag so that whenever the change event is fired, the backing bean should get updated. Truly simple stuff eh? However, when this h:selectOneMenu is in a rich:modalPanel the onchange event doesn't update the backing bean until the rich:modalPanel closes. I can confirm this because I'm running it in Eclipse debug mode and I have a breakpoint on the setter of the property that's hooked up to the h:selectOneMenu. This is driving me mad! This is vanilla stuff for Ajax, but rich:modalPanels don't seem to allow it. So, the question is: can I do Ajax stuff within a rich:modalPanel? I'm basically trying to use the rich:modalPanel as a form (I've tried a4j:form and h:form to no avail) that reacts to changes to the drop down (e.g. when the user changes the drop down, a certain part of the form should get reRendered). Am I trying to do something that's not possible?   Hello. In simplistic terms, a feature structure is an unordered list of attribute-value pairs. [number:sg, person:3 | _ ], which can be embedded: [cat:np, agr:[number:sg, person:3 | _ ] | _ ], can subindex stuff and share the value [number:[1], person:3 | _ ], where [1] is another feature structure (that is, it allows reentrancy). My question is: what data structure would people think this should be implemented with for later access to values, to perform unification between 2 fts, to "type" them, etc. There is a full book on this, but it's in lisp, which simplifies list handling. So, my choices are: a hash of lists, a list of lists, or a trie. What do people think about this?

• Should I use Drupal or Kohana-type framework for a web "application"

  The debate is that I need a PHP Framework/Drupal with the flexibility to add custom features to a potentially large application (web and with an api). However, with a framework, like Kohana, I see myself tackling and re-inventing the wheel with the simple stuff like account management and cms stuff. Account management and quick data collection, like fast form creation, are tedious in Kohana but appear incredible simple in Drupal. On the other hand, based on my limited Drupal experience, I doubt building rapid custom "features" and allowing users to create "groups" and to manage their own roles within those groups is something Drupal can easily accomplish. To simplify, is Drupal capable of true Web Applications; where the application is a service and provides custom results to each user? Can it provide a dashboard-like interface for users to change their settings or preferences? Can it aggregate data from particular users to provide better results/info to others? If so, please point me to some knowledge :-)

  In OWA (Exchange Outlook) 2003 calendar, there was a week view, which was a simple list type view, showing the day, time, and details. In OWA 2010, this is gone and the week view shows a more graphical view with boxes spanning the time slots. It is very difficult to read when you have many appointments. Is there a way to get a list style view, or some way to customize the views in OWA 2010 so I can build one?

I have only used Qt once before, and that was with Qt Designer, and I am not having much luck finding anything on Google about how to just use the XML library. I have downloaded a web page that has one large list, and I want to parse it and add each list item to a c++ list.   We have Best practices on using disposable object in SharePoint. But i`m thinking - can I skip these when using Console Application? That's some code I want to execute once and after that process has finished. Do or don't SPSite and SPWeb's remain opened somwhere? Why i`m asking this? I just don't want to stress when using something like var lists = from web in site.AllWebs.Cast<SPWeb>() where web is meeting workspace && list is task list select list then do some stuff on lists etc. Some serious resource leak there because webs get opened, filtered and NOT closed. So should I worry in console app?

• Silverlight - rebinding to a property?

  Hello, I'm just getting started with silverlight. Basically I have a silverlight user control that has various dataGrids and a combobox, their item sources set to the properties of a custom plain c# object. My problem is that I have a dropdown list that when a user selects an item from the list a new row should appear in one of the grids. All I'm doing is handling the SelectionChanged event and adding a new item to to a list in my custom object and setting the itemsource for the grid again. This doesnt seem to work; no row is added to the dataGrid I have no idea how to force my grid to "rebind" to this property. I've been reading about dependency properties, are these what I need? Any pointers would be really appreciated.

• Is there a SortedList<T> class in .net ? (not SortedList<Key,Value> which is actually a kind of Sort

  I need to sort some objects according to their contents (in fact according to one of their properties, which is NOT the key and may be duplicated between different objects) .net provides two classes (SortedDictionnary and SortedList), and both are some kind of Dictionaries. The only difference (AFAIK) is that SortedDictionnary uses a binary tree to maintain its state whereas SortedList does not and is accessible via an index. I could achieve what I want using a List, and then using its Sort() method with a custom implementation of IComparer, but it wouldn't be time-efficient as I would sort the whole List each time I insert a new object, whereas a good SortedList would just insert the item at the right position. What I need is a SortedList class with a RefreshPosition(int index) to move only the changed (or inserted) object rather than resorting the whole list each time an object inside changes. Am I missing something obvious ?

• Limit the number of cron jobs runnging a PHP script

  I have a daily cron job that grabs 10 users at a time and does a bunch of stuff with them. There are 1000's of users that are part of that process every day. I don't want the cron jobs to overlap as they are heavy on server load. They call stuff from various APIs so I have timeouts and slow data fetching to contend with. I've tried using a flag to mark a cron job as running, but it's not reliable enough as some PHP scripts may time out or fail in various ways. Is there a good way to stop a cron job from calling the PHP script multiple times, or controlling the number of times it is called, so there are only 3 instances for example? I'd prefer a solution in the PHP if possible. Any ideas? At the moment I'm storing the flag as a value in a database, is using a lock type file any better as in here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/851872/does-a-cron-job-kill-last-cron-execution ?

I am populating this combo with some custom objects: For Each obj As myObject In myObjectList myToolStripComboBox.Items.Add(obj) Next This works great except the text displayed in the combo is the name of the object class. I can understand why and realise that I need to do something to make the combo use a property from my class instead. The help files state: To add objects to the list at run time, assign an array of object references with the AddRange method. The list then displays the default string value for each object. You can add individual objects with the Add method. The bit in bold suggests I need to setup the default string value in my class. How would I go about doing this?

• Android: duplicate items in ListVew. Maybe getView() called too many times?

  Hi, I am trying to create a simple program which displays a "shopping cart" list of items, along with a few buttons below it to manage the cart. The biggest problem is that items are getting duplicate entries in the list view. That is, for every item I want to enter I see it appear two times in the list view. What's the problem? Also, the scrollable area of my cart is not big enough. How do I set it so that it is bigger but I can still see my buttons? Perhaps I should put the buttons above the cart?   I am interested in an implementation of the sieve of eratosthenes in purely functional F#. I am interested in an implementation of the actual sieve, not the naive functional implementation that isn't really the sieve, so not something like this: let rec PseudoSieve list = match list with | hd::tl -> hd :: (PseudoSieve <| List.filter (fun x -> x % hd <> 0) tl) | [] -> [] The second link above briefly describes an algorithm that would require the use of a multimap, which isn't available in F# as far as I know. The Haskell implementation given uses a map that supports an insertWith method, which I haven't seen available in the F# functional map. Does anyone know a way to translate the given Haskell map code to F#, or perhaps knows of alternative implementation methods or sieving algorithms that are as efficient and better suited for a functional implementation or F#?

  Hi, I do not understand how following code works. Specifically, I do not understand using of "return i<3". I would expect return i IF its < than 3. I always though that return just returns value. I could not even find what syntax is it. Any program that I "pin" to the start menu remains, but where you would normally expect to see the recent programs is just blank space. What setting do you think could have changed? • Has anyone achieved true differential sync with rsync in ESXi?

  Berate me later on the fact that I'm using the service console to do anything in ESXi... I've got a working rsync binary (v3.0.4) that I can use in ESXi 4.1U1. I tend to use rsync over cp when copying VM's or backups from one local datastore to another local datastore. I've used rsync to copy data from one ESXi box to another but that was just for small files. In now trying to do true differential syncs of backups taken via ghettoVCB between my primary ESXi machine and a secondary one. But even when I do this locally (one datastore to another datastore on the same ESXi machine) rsync appears to copy the files in their entirety. I've got two VMDK's totally 80GB in size, and rsync still takes anywhere between 1 and 2 hours but the VMDK's aren't growing that much daily. Below is the rsync command I'm executing. I am copying locally because ultimately these files will get copied onto a datastore created from a LUN on a remote system.
