  To conclude this week’s focus on customer experience, I’ll end by recapping how my week began in New York City at The Experience Revolution. We all know that customers increasingly call the shots, and that winning or losing depends on how well we manage to meet their expectations. Today’s customers have a multitude of choices and are quick to jump ship following a poor experience. As a result, delivering an experience that is relevant, interactive, engaging, and consistent across channels and fostering rewarding relationships are increasingly important to business success.  It is only through exceptional customer experiences that companies can expect to acquire new customers and maintain their loyalty.  Over 400 of us gathered at Gotham Hall on Monday night to hear Oracle President Mark Hurd introduce Oracle Customer Experience, a cross-stack suite of customer experience products that include Oracle RightNow CX Cloud Service, Oracle Endeca, Oracle ATG Web Commerce, Oracle WebCenter,Oracle Siebel CRM, Oracle Fusion CRM, Oracle Social Network, and Oracle Knowledge Management. I'd encourage you check out this video to hear Mark explain why having a good product isn't good enough in the wake of the customer experience revolution.   Az Oracle Database 11g verziójától már OLTP adatbázisok is hatékonyan tömöríthetok az Advanced Compression funkcióval. Nem csak a tárolandó adatok mennyisége csökken ezáltal felére, vagy akár negyedére, de az adatbázis teljesítménye is javulhat, amennyiben I/O korlátos a rendszer (és általában az). Hogy pontosan mekkora tömörítés várható az Advanced Compression bevezetésével, az kiválóan becsülheto a Compression Advisor eszközzel. Ez nem csak az OLTP tömörítés mértékét, de 11gR2 verziótól kezdve a HCC tömörítés arányát is becsülni tudja, amely Exadata Database Machine, Pillar Axiom illetve ZFS Storage alkalmazásával érheto el. A HCC tömörítés becsléséhez csak 11gR2 adatbázisra van szükség, nem kell hozzá a speciális célhardver (Exadata, Pillar, ZFS). A Compression Advisor valójában a DBMS_COMPRESSION package használatával érheto el. A package-hez tartozik 6 konstans, amellyel a kívánt tömörítési szintek választhatók ki: Constant Type Value Description COMP_NOCOMPRESS NUMBER 1 No compression COMP_FOR_OLTP NUMBER 2 OLTP compression COMP_FOR_QUERY_HIGH NUMBER 4 High compression level for query operations COMP_FOR_QUERY_LOW NUMBER 8 Low compression level for query operations COMP_FOR_ARCHIVE_HIGH NUMBER 16 High compression level for archive operations COMP_FOR_ARCHIVE_LOW NUMBER 32 Low compression level for archive operations A GET_COMPRESSION_RATIO tárolt eljárás elemzi a tömöríteni kívánt táblát. Mindig csak egy táblát, vagy opcionálisan annak egy partícióját tudja elemezni úgy, hogy a tábláról készít egy másolatot egy külön erre a célra kijelölt/létrehozott táblatérre. Amennyiben az elemzést egyszerre több tömörítési szintre futtatjuk, úgy a tábláról annyi másolatot készít. A jó közelítésu becslés (+-5%) feltétele, hogy táblánként/partíciónként minimum 1 millió sor legyen. 11gR1 esetében még a DBMS_COMP_ADVISOR csomag GET_RATIO eljárása volt használatos, de ez még nem támogatta a HCC becslést. Érdemes még megnézni és kipróbálni a Tyler Muth blogjában publikált formázó eszközt, amivel a compression advisor kimenete alakítható jól értelmezheto formátumúvá. Végül összegezném mit is tartalmaz az Advanced Compression opció, mivel gyakran nem világos a felhasználóknak miért kell fizetni: Data Guard Network Compression Data Pump Compression (COMPRESSION=METADATA_ONLY does not require the Advanced Compression option) Multiple RMAN Compression Levels (RMAN DEFAULT COMPRESS does not require the Advanced Compression option) OLTP Table Compression SecureFiles Compression and Deduplication Ez alapján RMAN esetében például a default compression (BZIP2) szint ingyen használható, viszont az új ZLIB Advanced Compression opciót igényel. A ZLIB hatékonyabban használja a CPU-t, azaz jóval gyorsabb, viszont kisebb tömörítési arány érheto el vele.

• Workshop in Denver canceled - thanks to hurricane Isaac

  Yesterday Roy did start his journey on time to travel to Denver, CO for today's Upgrade and Migration Workshop.  But unfortunately due to the remnants of  hurricane Issac moving up the East Coast and scrambling up flight schedules Roy's flight from NYC to Denver got canceled after a 3 hour delay leaving Manchester, NH, and there was no option to arrive in Denver this morning on time. • Security Alert For CVE-2010-4476 Released

  Hello, this is Eric Maurice again. Oracle just released a Security Alert with a fix for the vulnerability CVE-2010-4476, which affects Oracle Java SE and Oracle Java For Business. This vulnerability is present in Java running on servers as well as standalone Java desktop applications. Its successful exploitation by a malicious attacker can result in a complete denial of service for the affected servers. While only recently publicly disclosed, a number of Internet sites have since then reproduced details about this vulnerability, including exploit codes, which may result in allowing a malicious attacker to create a denial of service condition against the targeted system. Oracle therefore strongly recommends that affected organizations apply this fix as soon as possible. Please note that a fix for this vulnerability will also be included in the upcoming Java Critical Patch Update (Java SE and Java for Business Critical Patch Update - February 2011), which will be released on February 15th 2011. Note that the impact of this vulnerability on desktops is minimal: the affected applications or applets running in Internet browsers for example, might stop responding and may need to be restarted; however the desktop itself will not be compromised (i.e. no compromise at the desktop OS level). Oracle therefore recommends that consumers use the Java auto-update mechanism to get this fix. This will prompt them to install the latest version of the Java Runtime Environment 6 update 24 or higher (JRE), which includes the fix for this vulnerability. JRE 6 update 24 will also be distributed with the Java SE and Java for Business Critical Patch Update - February 2011.   Further to my last blog entry "FMw Diagnostic Framework : Automatic Capture of Diagnostic Data Upon First Failure!" I have spent some time exploring how Remote Diagnostic Agent (RDA) integrates with Diagnostic Framework. Remote Diagnostic Agent, by default, collects the information about the last 10 incidents which have been captured in the Automatic Diagnostic Repository (ADR). This information can be located via RDA's Start Page Menu system. See screenshot below. Screenshot - Viewing Diagnostic Framework Incident Information in a RDA Package Note: In the next release of RDA - version 4.30 - the Diagnostic Repository menu label will have it's own position in the weblogic managed server sub menu hierarchy rather than be a child menu item of the logs menuDiagnostic Framework is also capable of launching RDA engine and including the output in an incident package. This is achieved via the command "IPS GENERATE PACKAGE". The RDA output is written to DOMAIN_HOME/servers/<server name>/adr/diag/ofm/<domain name>/<server name>/incpkg/pkg_[number]/seq_[number]/rda The RDA collected files are best viewed (as shown in the screenshot above) by opening the RDA Start Page - "DFW__start.htm" - from this directory in a browser. If you do not have a browser available on the host machine, zip the contents of the rda directory and transfer and extract to a machine which has a browser.  The explanation of the integration goes a little deeper.   It might seem like there is not much time passed since Tyrus 1.0 (Java API for WebSocket reference implementation) release, but the fact is it was frozen several weeks before going public and development in the trunk continued. Tyrus 1.1 brings some new features and improvements: client-side proxy support simple command line client various stability/performance fixes (see below for complete list) Individual blog posts about highlighted features will follow, same as related user guide chapters.. stay tuned! • New Paper on the PeopleSoft Interaction Hub-PeopleTools Relationship

• When is the default storage rule not really the default storage rule?

  In 11g WebCenter Content (WCC) introduced dispersion rules in the vault and weblayout directory paths to better distribute content across the directories. The dispersion rule was based on dRevClassID. The only problem with this is that dRevClassID did not remain the same when you copied content from one WCC instance to another using Archiver like in a contribution-consumption scenario. This could cause problems because the web-viewable path would not be the same between the contribution and consumption instances. In the PS5 (11.1.1.6.0) release of WCC they addressed this by configuring the File Store Provider (FSP) so that all new content would use a storage rule with a dispersion rule based on dDocName, which would stay the same when content was copied to another WCC instance. To support migration from older versions of WCC they left the default storage rule unchanged and created a new storage rule called DispByContentId and made that the default storage rule for all new content. I only stumbled upon this a while back when I was trying to change the FSP configuration so that all content used a webless storage rule. I changed the default storage rule, restarted WCC, and checked in a new content item. To my surprise the new content was not created as webless. I struggled with this for a while until I noticed there were multiple storage rules defined in the FSP configuration. When I looked at the default value for the xStorageRule field in Configuration Manager, sure enough it was no longer default, but was now DispByContentId. Once I updated the DispByContentId storage rule to webless and restarted WCC all my new content was now created using the webless storage rule, just like I wanted. I noticed when I was creating this blog post that the default storage rule is also listed on the File Store Provider Information page, but I guess I didn't see that when I originally did this.

• Accessing ADF Faces components that are read-only from JavaScript

  Almost as a note to myself and to justify the time I spent on analyzing aproblem, a quick note on what to watch out for when working trying to access read-only ADF Faces components from JavaScript.  Those who tried JavaScript in ADF Faces probably know that you need to ensure the ADF Faces component  is represented by a JavaScript object on the client. You do this either implicitly by adding an af:clientListener component (in case you want to listen for a component event) or explicitly by setting the ADF Faces component clientComponent property to true. For the use case I looked at in JDeveloper 11g R1 (11.1.1.7) I needed to make an output text component clickable to call a JavaScript function in response. Though I added the af:clientComponent tag to the component I recognized that it also needed the clientComponent property set to true. Though I remember this as not being required in 11.1.1.6, I like the new behavior as it helps preventing read-only components from firing client side events unless you tell it to do so by setting the clientComponent property to true. Note: As the time of writing, JDeveloper 11.1.1.7 is not publicly available and I put the note in this blog as a reminder in case you ever hit a similar challenge so you know what to do.
