• How do I send an email from my webpage?

  I am not a web developer but I do have a lot of programming experience in C# and Windows forms programming. On our company webpage my boss wants me to put in a textbox where visitors can submit a comment and press a submit button and that comment will be sent to an email address. Right now, our website uses just plain old html, no php or javascript or anything like that. I am wondering what is the simplest way to accomplish what I need? Can someone point me in the right direction? The website is hosted on an Apache server so I won't be able to use aspx.

• Help! Obj-C/Iphone programming: extracting string from html text and reading off line by line

  hihi, I have this html text response from a particular website: <tr><td valign="top"><img src="/icons/image2.gif" alt="[IMG]"></td><td><a href="crsdsdfs2221.jpg">crash-2221.jpg</a></td><td align="right">14-Jun-2010 14:29 Notice for every line, there is this href=".__", which is an image file with random name and random format. I would like to extract that string within the inverted commas out so that i can append it into a URL path and download the image. I've been looking through this documentation from apple: http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/documentation/cocoa/conceptual/strings/Articles/SearchingStrings.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/20000149-CJBBGBAI on String programming but couldn't find one that fits my bill. Also after reading it, what code can I use to ensure that I will be reading the next line the next time my function is called( because I want to download the next picture). Hope some kind soul can help me out, thanks!

  Hello stackers, I was arguing about an S3 like aproach using authorization hash with a secret key as the seed and some data on the request as the message signed with hmac sha1 (Amazon S3 way) vs an other developer supporting symetric encryption of the data with a secret key known by the emiter and the server. What are the advantage of using signed data with hmac sha1 vs symetric key other than the fact that with the former, we do not need to encrypt the username or password. What would be the hardest to break ? symetric encryption or sha1 hashing at la S3 ? If all big players are using oauth and similar without symetric key it is sure that there are obvious advantages, what are those ?

• Qt applications on new Mac App Store

  I have a Qt app that runs on OS X that has potential to go on the new Mac App Store. I have reviewed the guidelines at https://developer.apple.com/appstore/mac/resources/approval/guidelines.html. I also saw a post here on SO about Java and the AppStore. Has anyone else considered this with their own apps and whether or not the Qt framework will run afoul of the App police? You still have to stay within the Apple HIG, i.e. no theming and cannot use private APIs. Still seems like a risky proposition over pure ObjC. Anyone else tempted?

  I am developing an app for IPad, and I need to modify several attributes in a XML file at runtime. I found the class NSXMLDocument, http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/documentation/cocoa/reference/foundation/Classes/NSXMLDocument_Class/Reference/Reference.html But I haven't been able to import it to my project. Is this class not available for IPhone/IPad development? Is there some other approach I can consider? I read about libxml library. Is it my answer or there is a better approach?

• Why does placing this html within form tags change the layout?

  I'm using this free Web Template - EliteCircle and have just incorporated it into a master page. The master page wraps the html in: <form id="form1" runat="server"> //master page html </form> The template almost comes out fine except the entire page is surrounded by a think white border (default CSS behavior for form?) and the footer background is half white on the very bottom. I wouldn't expect the form with id=form1 to change anything in the layout. There is nothing in the [CSS][2] with that id. When I remove the form tags from the master page (just to check) the layout is perfect, no problems. Any ideas?   I have some Crystal Reports connecting to a Sql Server db that I would like to detect whether the connection is trusted or whether I need to supply the log on info (reports are not supplied by me so I can't control the connect method). If I just blindly supply login credentials, it won't connect if it is a trusted connection.   It has been a practically unanimous truth on StackOverflow that if you work as an independent consultant, you should probably form a corporation (as seen here), to limit personal liability, supposedly to protect you in case of lawsuit. It seems to me that developing software does not result in many lawsuits, but this is an empirical (objective [and not community wiki]) question: How likely is it that a lone software developer will be sued? Also, by whom (a disgruntled company, coworker)? Since incorporating is basically taking out insurance, the likelihood of catastrophe needs to be taken into account. Also, aren't there standard laws covering, for example, total screw-ups with corporate data that mean that protect the lone cowboy/girl/person/coder?

  Hi there I am not sure if the title has the correct terms, I have a developer and am very new to cubes. I have a cube which has data associated to materials that are broken down into chemical compounds. For example a rock material has 10% of this chemical and 10% of that chemical, etc. Samples are taken daily and sample is a dimension with date, etc. So, the measure needs to average by the sample dimension but needs to sum across the chemical compound dimension (To add up to 100% for example). Is this at all possible?

  Hello all, I'm looking to purchase a jquery book. I'm a strong C# developer whose had experience with dojo. Now, I'm building my own site and am looking to learn a new platform in the process. So, I've chosen jquery. With dojo, I know how to make my own widgets. I want to learn about ways to plug into jquery to make reusable controls. Also, I plan to make heavy use of json with ajax. Other things to consider: I would call my javascript expertise as intermediate. I'd like to find a book that is as up to date with the jquery platform as possible as I know that in a few months it will likely be out of date. What book or books would you reccomend?

• Web Service returning object with null fields

  Never seen this one before. WebService.Implementation imp = new WebService.Implementation(); WebService.ImplementationRequest req = new WebService.ImplementationRequest(); return imp.GetValue(req); The object that imp returns is not null. It's returning an ImplementationResponse, as expected. But all of the fields in that object are null. Which is not expected. The WebService, currently, just returns some constant dummy data. We've tested this on another developer's machine, works just fine. I suppose I should also note that the WebService should throw an exception if I pass null into the GetValue method. It doesn't. Not for me. Any idea what could be wrong with my environment that could make a WebService return an object, but make every value in that object null? And somehow 'magically' return this mystery object when it should be throwing an exception?

I am pretty new to this area and I need recommendation which Source Control should I use to fix my current project. I am developing Web Application which dealing with large number of pictures. Currently, we have over 500,000 pictures (large size picture and several thumbnails). I am using PHP which is not what I concern (since it is just only hundred of script files). • VS2005 and VSS. Should .exes, .dlls, pdbs, .resource and generated .xml files go in VSS?

  It seems like the following type of files need to be writable to be able to compile a solution. .exe .dll .pdb (if debugging) .resource (?) .xml (at least the system generated ones. I'm not sure if they are just all XML documentationf iles) If they were checked in and could only be overwritten by the compiler by the person who had them checked out, then checking them into sourcesafe and requiring a checkout to modify them, which is attemtped by the compiler each time you run, would interfer with other developer's ability to debug and run. What is the best practice? It seems like VSS automatically adds everything.

  Today I upgraded to Android SDK 2.3 and I also upgraded the Eclipse Plugin Androi Developer Tools 8.0 (from 0.9.9). I also upgraded my Java Development Kit to 1.6_22. Now in Eclipse I get many errors in all my Android projects. The error messages are like: The type java.lang.Object cannot be resolved. It is indirectly referenced from required .class files. • Does the box API require case-sensitive booleans?

  I'm having some issues with the box.com developer API, and it seems that this is due to the API requiring lower-case booleans in request parameters. When I make a call to say, delete a folder, the URI my framework is generating looks like this: (DELETE) https://api.box.com/2.0/folders/1234?recursive=True This doesn't work, and the API throws an error. However, if I manually set the URI to this: (DELETE) https://api.box.com/2.0/folders/1234?recursive=true Everything seems to work just fine. I'd like to confirm that this is indeed the behavior, and if it is, I'd like to request box fix their API!

• How do i convert from milliseconds to seconds units to be shown in a Label?

In the mouse wheel event i did that it will show in the label2 the untis in seconds. And indeed when i move the mouse wheel up its slowing the timer and show it in seconds 1 2 3 4 5 The problem is with the second part i wanted that when its getting to 1 second or 1000 milliseconds if i will keep wheel it down it will show the units in 100 and change the timer1.interval in 100 units. So in label2 if it was on 1 second so now i will see 900 800 700 600 500 un till 100. And also the timer1 interval should be change to 900 milliseconds 800 700 600 untill 100. When its get to 100 just stop there dont keep getting under 100. The problem is with this part: if (timer1.Interval == 1000) { timer1.Interval -= 100; label2.Text = (timer1.Interval / 1000).ToString(); } Its not working at all. • Why is there no Microsoft Certified Master program targetted at developers?

  In the lower level certifications, developer technology is all over the place. At the highest level (Microsoft Certified Architect), the Solutions track appears to be a good fit for high level application designers and architects. MCA requires an MCM as a prerequisite. However, none of the MCM tracks are targeted towards development. Obviously to be a good architect you need to have knowledge of other technologies, servers, sql, messaging etc. But those seem like things that should be part of the course load, and not the sole focus. Are the lower tiers really as high as you can go for application focused professionals? For most developers, the SQL MCM seems to be the best fit. Are the MCM and MCA really targeted ad more administrators and not developers?
