  • Route specific network traffic through vpn in virtualbox guest

    I am running OSX with a windows server 2008 guest in Virtualbox. My goal is to route some of the network traffic in the host through the server guest. This is because the win2008 server has a VPN connection to my workplace using a Smartcard solution which can not operate on OSX. My current set-up is like this: OSX (Host): connected to the internet via en01 Win2008 (Guest): connected to the internet using NAT (lan1 in guest) has a SSTP VPN connection to my workplace is connected to the guest using an Host Only Adapter vboxnet0 (LAN2 in guest) The important part is about the host (OSX). Primarily I want all network traffic to just go through en01. However, all traffic which can only be accessed through the VPN must go through the guest and through the VPN. I have one specific FQDN which can only be accessed through the VPN (say corp.mycompany.com). I do not know much about networking. I thought I would be able to get it to work by bridging together LAN2 and LAN1 but this didn't seem to work this: http://archives.aidanfindlater.com/blog/2010/02/03/use-vpn-for-specific-sites-on-mac-os-x/ using a loopback adapter on WinXP (when I did not have win2008 yet, but this doesn't work because I can't create a PPTP connection) And I've also read about Routing and Remote Access but I have no idea on how to use this.     I'm keen to test out html offline storage and caching with a view to developing a prototype to show off the offline web application capabilities of html5. I've found some webkit-specific samples, but I'm battling to find any decent code samples that even work at all in Firefox 3.6 For a sample, I'd be happy with something that works with the following: Our company uses jquery extensively so I'd prefer samples that use that library or pure javascript. It should at least work on firefox (3.6+ is fine) Can anyone point me to some links that provide some guidance and code samples?

  • configuring lighttpd for large downloads

  • Trouble printing to local printer when connected to VPN with split-tunneling enabled

    I'm a volunteer network admin for a multi-tenant non-profit office space. One of our new tenants uses a VPN to connect to remote resources using RRAS and Small Business Server 2008. They also have a local network printer for the workstations in our office. When connected to the VPN, they cannot print to the local printer. I informed their network admin that they need to enable split-tunneling to fix this. Their network admin enabled split-tunneling, but apparently printing still didn't work. He told me that I need to open port 1723 on our office firewall to allow it to work. I'm just a novice administrator and not familiar with RRAS, but this doesn't sound right to me and I haven't been able to find anything on the web to validate it. Additionally, my understanding of split-tunneling is that it is handled entirely by the VPN client and should work irrespective of firewall settings. Is my understanding of the situation incorrect? What steps should I take to resolve this problem?

I can probably hack it to make it work, but maybe I'm missing something. Is it how JQuery supposed to work ?

  • Browsing \\computer\share fails, but net use \\computer\share works?

    I've had mixed results with using Windows Explorer to browse remote file shares. The setup: I'm at work on Windows XP SP3 Files are at home on Windows XP SP3 Two separate VPNs are available to access my PC at home corporate OpenVPN (10.1.2.3) a Hamachi/LogMeIn connection (5.1.2.3) With respect to my problem, it doesn't matter which IP I use. They both perform exactly the same way: I expect that if I open Windows Explorer and type in \\10.1.2.3\Shared I should be interrupted with a challenge for credentials, and then be able to interact with the files in the share. However, I just get that annoying dialog, "Windows cannot find '\10.1.2.3\Shared' Check the spelling and try again, or try searching for the item ..." However, I can take that exact same computername/sharename and with net use I can: net use * \\10.1.2.3\Shared * /user:homecomputername\username with this result: Type the password for \\5.69.83.158\C$: Drive Z: is now connected to \\5.69.83.158\C$. The command completed successfully. I can then access the files in Z: in Windows Explorer which was my original intent. Even after Z: is already mapped and the credentials are cached I still cannot bring up \\10.1.2.3\Shared in Windows Explorer. Why does the latter work, but not the former? Edit: Other services work fine, such as RDP. (I have a problem in which I can't SSH home, but I'll consider that separately.)

    I have a column with the type of Varchar in my Postgres database which I meant to be integers... and now I want to change them, unfortunately this doesn't seem to work using my rails migration. change_column :table1, :columnB, :integer So I tried doing this: execute 'ALTER TABLE "table1" ALTER COLUMN "columnB" TYPE integer USING CAST(columnB AS INTEGER)' but cast doesn't work in this instance because some of the column are null... any ideas?

  • Asus PCE-N53 11n N600 PCI-E Adapter on 3.x kernel

    Problem ASUS PCE-N53 wireless NIC doesn't work for latest versions of the linux kernel. How do I get it working on my system? (Note: I'm posting the answer I've found for others to use.) Installing Driver for Linux 3.x Kernel ASUS provides Linux drivers from their website, but it mentions that the driver supports "Linux Kernel 2.6.x", so it won't work without a some modifications to the driver code. Fortunately, an archlinux forum mentions similar problems and one user was able to create a patch for kernel 3.8.x that seems to work with kernel 3.11.x. Here's how I got it working: Prerequisites Ubuntu: sudo apt-get install build-essential Arch: sudo pacman -S base-devel Steps: 1. Download the driver from the ASUS website The download can be found under "Support Drivers & Tools". 2. Unzip the contents of the downloaded file cd into the new directory 3. Patch The arch forum mentions a 3.8 patch file that needs to be downloaded. Download rt5592sta_fix_64bit_3.8.patch to the current directory. tar -xvf {driver_source.tar.gz} cd into the directory created in previous step patch -p1 < ../rt5592sta_fix_64bit_3.8.patch 4. Compile NOTE: You will need to use sudo for it to compile properly. sudo make sudo make install sudo modprobe rt5592sta 5. Enjoy If all is well, you should now have a working card.

    Hi, I'm working on Steganography application. I need to hide a message inside an image file and secure it with a password, with not much difference in the file size. I am using Least Significant Bit algorithm and could do it successfully with BMP files but it does not work with JPEG, PNG or TIFF files. Does this algorithm work with these files at all? Is there a better way to achieve this? Thanks.

    Ok, I don't know regex very well so I used a generator to help me make a simple mod_rewrite that works. Here's my full URL https://www.huttonchase.com/prodDetails.php?id_prd=683 For testing to make sure I CAN use this, I used this: RewriteRule prodDetails/(.*)/$ /prodDetails.php?id_prd=$1 So I can use the URL http://www.huttonchase.com/prodDetails/683/ If you click it, it works but it completely messes up the relative paths. There are a few work-arounds but I want something a little different. https://www.huttonchase.com/prod_683_stainless-steel-flask I want it to see that 'prod' is going to tell it which rule it's matching, 683 is the product number that I'm looking up in the database, and I want it to just IGNORE the last part, it's there only for SEO and to make the link mean something to customers. I'm told that this should work, but it's not: RewriteRule ^prod_([^-]*)_([^-]*)$ /prodDetails.php?id_prd=$1 [L] Once I get the first one to work I'll write one for Categories: https://www.huttonchase.com/cat_11_drinkware And database driven text pages: https://www.huttonchase.com/page_44_terms-of-service BTW, I can flip around my use of dash and underscore if need be.   • PHP files are downloaded, not executed in UserDir on Apache

    We're running a webserver using Debian 6.0.3 with Apache 2, we recently upgraded from Debian 5 to 6. Since then php scripts in the user directories (using mod_userdir) have stopped working, they are downloaded instead of being executed. There is also a website using php outside of the user directories, and that one continues to work fine, so PHP seems to generally work on the server. I tested it with several PHP files, among the a simple phpinfo file that works fine on the main site, but is just downloaded when copying it to one of the user directories. The php files and the directory containing them are executable for everyone. The option in the Apache php5.conf that by default disables PHP in the user directories, is commented out, so the php5.ini looks like this: <IfModule mod_php5.c> <FilesMatch "\.ph(p3?|tml)$"> SetHandler application/x-httpd-php </FilesMatch> <FilesMatch "\.phps$"> SetHandler application/x-httpd-php-source </FilesMatch> # To re-enable php in user directories comment the following lines # (from <IfModule ...> to </IfModule>.) Do NOT set it to On as it # prevents .htaccess files from disabling it. #<IfModule mod_userdir.c> # <Directory /home/*/public_html> # php_admin_value engine Off # </Directory> #</IfModule> </IfModule> We restarted Apache after changing this. I'm running out of ideas now what the problem could be, and I don't know how I could really determine which problem is preventing those php files from being executed. Any ideas on how I can solve this? Update: Strangely, PHP seems to work fine in subfolders of user directories, so if I copy a PHP file from /home/user/public_html/ to /home/user/public_html/test/ it suddenly works.

  • Textarea overflow-x when a user copy-pastes into it?

    Hi, I have a textarea with overflow-x: auto; attributed to it. It works great when a user is typing text into the box by hand. When a user copy pastes a line from a file, however, that is bigger than my textarea, the overflow-x property does not work, instead the textarea wordwraps the long line. Is there a way (maybe javascript) to make overflow-x work on copy-paste? Thanks.

  • Drupal site requires a higher memory limit after migration? Why?

    Hello. We have a website which had a previous memory limit of 12 MB (12 MB in php.ini, and 16 MB in settings.php) and worked previously. After moving to a new server it started giving memory limit errors and displaying half-blank screen. We increaded the limit in both files (php.ini and settings.php) and now it works, but I dont understand how is it possible that now it needs a considerably larger amount of memory (it used to work with 12 MB, now it cont work with less than 20 MB).

    I'm trying to configure reverse proxy rules in vhost.conf. I have Apache-2.2.8 on Ubuntu-8.04, monitored by Plesk-10.4.4. What I'm trying to achieve is defining a reverse proxy rule that defers all traffic to -say- http://mydomain/tomcat/ to the Tomcat server running on port 8080. I have mod_rewrite and mod_proxy loaded in Apache. As far as I understand mod_proxy docs, entering following rules in /var/www/vhosts/mydomain/conf/vhost.conf should work: <Proxy *> Order deny,allow Allow from all </Proxy> ProxyRequests off RewriteRule ^/tomcat/(.*)$ http://mydomain:8080/$1 [P] Yet, I am getting a HTTP 500: internal server error when requesting above URL.   • I'm new to OOP/PHP. What's the practicality of visibility and extensibility in classes?

    I'm obviously brand new to these concepts. I just don't understand why you would limit access to properties or methods. It seems that you would just write the code according to intended results. Why would you create a private method instead of simply not calling that method? Is it for iterative object creation (if I'm stating that correctly), a multiple developer situation (don't mess up other people's work), or just so you don't mess up your own work accidentally?
