• Custom validatior in ASP.net

  Hi there. I'm working on an ASP.NET/C# app. I have 2 text boxes and I need to validate if the input text for both of them are not both null ex: if(string.IsNullOrEmpty(TextBox1.Text) && string.IsNullOrEmpty(TextBox2.Text) ) //FAIL!!! else // OK! that is, at least one txtBox has values I was planning on using a custom validator but it seems that the validation function only gets called when something is written on the textBox i'm using has the 'control to validate'. Now, that doesn't work for me since I want to show an error message when both text boxes are empty. Is there a way to make the validation function to be called with, for example a postback? Or is there any other better approach to this case than the custom validator? tks

• SQL Server to manage ASP.NET sessions doesn't work

  I follow the direction in here How to configure SQL Server to manage ASP.NET sessions to create ASPState db. I have 2 web application in IIS 7. In IIS web application setting, i go to "Session State" and set session state as "SQL Server" and provide connection string. In each web application web.config, i add <sessionState mode="SQLServer" allowCustomSqlDatabase="false" sqlConnectionString="data source=server;user id=user;password=password" cookieless="false" timeout="7200" /> I create a session , Session["Data"] = "test" in Web App A and go to Web App B in the same browser to print it Response.Write(Session["Data"]); It shows NOTHING. I can see there are data in table : ASPStateTempApplications and ASPStateTempSessions under ASPState Database. Also, i dont see any error in event log. Can anyone think anything i may do wrong?   Again i rewrite my question with more details i.e. I am developing a website in Asp.net 2.0 in that i'm tracking the user's some details like their id,no of page hitted and time of hitting etc, in a LogfileDate(the LogfileDate contains whole day summary of all users) saved inside a folder(Folder is inside my project). And at another day when a new logfileDate created i want to mail the previous day Logfile and delete that file after sending. Everything happened but when It is going to delete its shows file is accessed by another process. So I need to refresh that folder after sending mail so that it got free with buffer. I'm not using IIS and i dont want it to use.

• ASP, My SQL & case sensitity suddenly broken

  Hi There, We have an old ASPsite that has been working fine for years with a MY SQL database. All of a sudden last week lots fo SQL queries stopped working. The database has a table called 'members' but the code calls 'Members'. It appears the queries used to work regardless of case sensitivity on the table names, but something has changed recently somewhere to enforce case. This has me stumped as the site has not been touched in years, the server config hasn't changed & the database provide has not changed anything. Is there any simple way to ignore case for an ASP site (without editing lots fo files :) Thanks Ben

  Hi, I've generated a pdf using iTextSharp and I can preview it very well in ASP.Net but I need to send it directly to printer without a preview. I want the user to click the print button and automatically the document prints. I know that a page can be sent directly to printer using the javascript window.print() but I don't know how to make it for a PDF. Edit: it is not embedded, I generate it like this; ...   I am creating 4 asp.net pages. first three pages have 'CONTINUE' button and last page has 'SUBMIT' button. I am not allowed to use Sessions to store first three pages data. and i need to use 'BACK' button on last three pages. when i click 'BACK' button i need to maintain the previous page data entered by user. As my pages do some postbacks, i cannot use javascript.history function. My restrictions are: As the application is served from a web farm, a session object cannot be used. However, for the purpose of this excersise, consider session object as database-like persistent space where you can store your data. your code should show an easy way to switch to a different persistent space. What is databse like persistent space and how to write a code to switch to different persistent space?... Please give me some idea on how to proceed.... Thank you

I am using visual studio 2008, asp.net.vb I have various functions; 1 that calculates totals, 1 that calculates averages, 1 that calculates percentages etc. The data they act upon is different depending on the particular web page, but all my pages use these functions. So I want to know how I can store these functions in a single place so that all of my web pages can access the routines. At the moment all I know how to do is to write seperate functions in the code-behind for each individual web page. Obviously that is just so long winded and inefficient, but try as I might I can't figure out how to do it better. Please can anyone help. Many thanks.

• Way around ASP.NET session being shared across multiple tab windows

  I'm storing some value in an asp.net session on the first page. On the next page, this session value is being read. However if multiple tabs are opened and there are multiple page 1-page 2 navigation going on, the value stored in session gets mixed up since the session is shared between the browser tabs. I'm wondering what are the options around this : Query String: Passing value between the pages using query string, I don't want to take this approach since there can be multiple anchor tags on page 1 linking to page 2 and I can not rewrite the URLs of each tag since they are dynamic. Cookies??? In-memory cookies are shared across browser tabs too, same as the session cookie, rite ? Any other option?

  Hi, Working on a classic asp page that uses paging. The error I am having a problem with is this: Lets say that you have 5 pages returned in your record set and you are on page 2. You leave and come back, you then press the link for page 3, the trouble is your session has timed out. I don't know why this happens but the page is reloaded, but the session check is bypassed and of course when the page attempts to retrieve the record set the session variables are now empty so I am getting a message stating: error near ',' line 1, because now the query is defunct. Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine. Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off". Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

  HI, We are developing a multi-tenant application in Asp.Net with separate DB for each tenant, in which one of the requirement is to monitor the bandwidth usage for each tenant, i have tried to search but not found much help on the topic,we want to monitor exactly how much bandwidth is being used for each tenant while each tenant can have its own top level domain or a sub domain or a combination of both. so what are the available options, the ones which i can think of can be 1. IIS Log Monitoring means a separate application which will calculate the bandwidth for each tenant. 2. Log Each Request and Response for a tenant from within the application and then calculate the total bandwidth usage based on that. 3. Use some third part components if available So what do you think will be the best approach, also if there is any other way to do this.

  Hi, i am having trouble catching errors in an AJAX panel. Even when i throw an exception in the c# code behind the front end completely ignores it.   I have an asp.net webform. I have the background as an image,that when i aslo have a menu bar, when i click on an icon, it uses response.redirect() to redirect to a new page, but when it loads up the page, it seems like the background image is slow. I can see the backgroud as white first and then split seconds later the background image will load up, this causes an illusion of flickering when it redirects to a new page. How do i solve this problem? When i tested using visual studio web server, it dont flicker. I am using a background image in the master page hosted up on the internet.

  Hi there, we've recently stumbled across the excellent Dispatch for ASP deployment plug in. It looks great apart from one thing: It doesn't work with Visual Studio 2010, at least for us, anyway. (It's supposed to work fine.) (Yes, we've tried everything: We've managed to get Dispatch working for another FTP site, but not the main one we regularly deploy to. We have managed to connect to our main site through FileZilla FTP, so the site itself is configured correctly. All settings have been triple checked, but the software still throws up weird errors (always to do with its internal libraries).) So does anyone know of any other comparable FTP-based, deployment plug-ins for Visual Studio?

• What would prevent ASP.NET from Output Caching?

  I have an ASP.NET application, and am trying to output cache a certain page, however on every request, the debugger is still hitting the OnLoad method and I get a 200 response back. I have placed the output cache directive on a page like so: <%@ OutputCache Duration="60" VaryByParam="None" %> And ensured I have the OutputCache module <add name="OutputCache" type="System.Web.Caching.OutputCacheModule"/> And have also bypassed URL rewriting just in case. I have tried this using Cassini and IIS 5.1 (XP), however the page is not caching at all. Are there any other factors which I have not looked at which could affect this feature? Thanks

  Hi folks, I'm currently trying to upgrade our build server at work, going from having no build server to having one! I'm using JetBrains TeamCity (having used ReSharper for a couple of years I trust their stuff), and intend to use NUnit and MSBuild. However, I've come up with an issue: it appears that it is not possible to test an ASP.net Web Site with NUnit. I had assumed it would be possible to configure it to test App_Code after build, however it seems that the only way to do tests nicely is through converting the Web Site to a Web Application (which my boss does not like the idea of). Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I could go about this? Please bear in mind that the testing needs to be able to be fired automatically from TeamCity.

  I have an asp.net page with a code-behind class definition as follows: public partial class examplepage : System.Web.UI.Page I'd like to set a public property within the page that I can reference from other classes. My understanding is that if I cast to examplepage then I should be able to get at the public property that is specific to example page, as in: string test=((examplepage)HttpContext.Current.Handler).propertyX; However, when I try casting as above the compiler does not recognise examplepage. Can anyone tell me how I can cast? I have no specific namespaces defined. Thanks

  Hi, I am just a beginner in ASP.NET. My question is simple, I wanna add list items dynamically from the code behind file and I want each item to have a text and couple of images as hyperlinks. The HTML sample should be like, <ul> <li>do foo &nbsp;<a href="#"><img src="some_image.png" /></a></li> <li>do bar &nbsp;<a href="#"><img src="some_image.png" /></a></li> ... </ul> The number of items is dependent on the collection retrieved by the code behind file.
