  • How do I link ASP.NET membership/role users to tables in db?

    - by SnapConfig.com
    I am going to use forms authentication but I want to be able to link the asp.net users to some tables in the db for example If I have a class and students (as roles) I'll have a class students table. I'm planning to put in a Users table containing a simple int userid and ASP.NET username in there and put userid wherever I want to link the users. Does that sound good? any other options of modeling this? it does sound a bit convoluted?

  • Create new table with Wordpress API

    - by Fire G
    I'm trying to create a new plugin to track popular posts based on views and I have everything done and ready to go, but I can't seem to create a new table using the Wordpress API (I can do it with standard PHP or with phpMyAdmin, but I want this plugin to be self-sufficient). I've tried several ways ($wpdb-query, $wpdb-get_results, dbDelta) but none of them will create the new table. function create_table(){ global $wpdb; $tablename = $wpdb->prefix.'popular_by_views'; $ppbv_table = $wpdb->get_results("SHOW TABLES LIKE '".$tablename."'" , ARRAY_N); if(is_null($ppbv_table)){ $create_table_sql = "CREATE TABLE '".$tablename."' ( 'id' BIGINT(50) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, 'url' VARCHAR(255) NOT NULL, 'views' BIGINT(50) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY ('id'), UNIQUE ('id') );"; $wpdb->show_errors(); $wpdb->flush(); if(is_null($wpdb->get_results("SHOW TABLES LIKE '".$tablename."'" , ARRAY_N))) echo 'crap, the SQL failed.'; } else echo 'table already exists, nothing left to do.';}

  • making query from different related tables using codeigniter

    - by fatemeh karam
    I'm using codeigniter as i mentioned this is a part of my view code foreach($projects_query as $row)// $row indicates the projects { ?> <tr><td><h3><button type="submit" class="button red-gradient glossy" name = "project_click" > <?php echo $row->txtTaskName; ?></button></h3></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td></tr> <?php foreach($tasks_query as $row2) { // if( $row->txtTaskName == "TestProject") if($row->intTaskID == $row2->intInside)// intInside indicades that the current task($row2) is the subset of which task (system , subsystem or project) { if($row2->intSummary == 0)//if the task(the system) is an executable task & doesn't have any subtask: { $query_team_user_id = $this->admin_in_out_model->get_user_team_task_query($row2->intTaskID);//runs the function and generates a query from tbl_userteamtask where intTaskID equals to the selected row's intTaskID foreach($query_team_user_id as $row_teamid) { $query_teamname = $this->admin_in_out_model->get_team_name($row_teamid->intTeamID); $query_fn_ln = $this->admin_in_out_model->get_fn_ln_from_userid($row_teamid->intUserID); foreach($query_teamname as $row_teamname) {?> <tr><td></td><td></td><td><h4> <?php echo $row2->txtTaskName;?></h4></td> <td><b><font color='#F33558'><?php echo $row_teamname->txtTeamName;?></font></b></td> <?php } foreach($query_fn_ln as $row_f_l_name) {?> <td> <?php echo $row_f_l_name->txtFirstname."   • How to configure DB connection in a Servlet based JPA application

    - by deamon
    By default DB connections of JPA applications are configured in the META-INF/persistence.xml, when the application is not deployed to a full Java EE application server. In my opinion it is not very elegant to place such environment specific configuration into a file that is inside a .war file. How could a DB connection of a Servlet based JPA application be configured more flexible (=outside of the .war file)?

  • drawbacks of storing all ''things' in a central table

    - by naiquevin
    Hi, I am not sure if there is a term to describe this, but I have observed that content management systems store all kinds of data in a single table with their bare minimum properties while the meta data is stored in another table in form of key value pairs. for eg. everything (blog posts, pages, images, events etc) is stored in one table and considered as a post. I understand that this allows for abstraction and easy extensibility we are considering designing our new project this way. It is not exactly a CMS but we plan to keep adding modules to it in stages. Lets say initially there will be only posts and images on which comments can be posted. Later on we might add videos which will also have the commenting feature. what are the drawbacks of this approach ? and will it work for a requirement like ours ? Thanks

  • MySQL Query to get count of unique values?

    - by RD
    Hits Table: hid | lid | IP 1 | 1 | 123.123.123.123 2 | 1 | 123.123.123.123 3 | 2 | 123.123.123.123 4 | 2 | 123.123.123.123 5 | 2 | 123.123.123.124 6 | 2 | 123.123.123.124 7 | 3 | 123.123.123.124 8 | 3 | 123.123.123.124 9 | 3 | 123.123.123.124 As you can see, there following are the unique hits for the various lid: lid 1: 1 unique hit lid 2: 2 unique hits lid 3: 1 unique hit So basically, I need a query that will return the following: lid | uhits | 1 | 1 | 2 | 2 | 3 | 1 | Anybody know how to get that?

  • Get information from various sources

    - by Francesc
    Hi. I'm developing an app that has to get some information from various sources (APIs and RSS) and display it to the user in near real-time. What's the best way to get it: 1.Have a cron job to update them all accounts every 12h, and when a user is requesting one, update that account, save it to the DB and show it to the user? 2.Have a cron job to update them all accounts every 6h, and when a user is requesting one, update the account and showing it to the user without saving it to the DB? What's the best way to get it? What's faster? And what's the most scallable?

  • How would I associate a "Note" class to 4+ classes without creating lookup table for each associatio

    - by Gthompson83
    Im creating a project tasklist application. I have project, section, task, issue classes, and would like to use one class to be able to add simple notes to any object instance of those classes. The task, issue tables both use a standard identity field as a primary key. The section table has a two field primary key. The project table has a single int primary key defined by the user. Is there a way to associate the note class with each of these without using a seperate lookup table for each class? I'm not so sure my original idea is a decent way to implement this. I considered the following (each variable mapping to a field n the notes table. Private _NoteId As Integer Private _ProjectId As Integer Private _SectionId As Integer Private _SectionId2 As Integer Private _TaskId As Integer Private _IssueId As Integer Private _Note As String Private _UserId As Guid Then I would be able to write seperate methods (getProjectNotes, getTaskNotes) to get notes attached to each class. I started writing this a few weeks ago but got pulled away before i could finish. When revisiting this code today my first thought "this is retarded". Thoughts on drawbacks to this design?

  • How to use multiple identity numbers in one table?

    - by vincer
    I have an web application that creates printable forms, these forms have a unique number on them, the problem is I have 2 forms that separate numbers need to be created for them. ie) Form1- Numbered 2000000-2999999 Form2- Numbered 3000000-3999999 dbo.test2 - is my form information table Tsel - is my autoinc table for the 3000000 series numbers Tadv - is my autoinc table for the 2000000 series numbers What I have done is create 2 tables with just autoinc row (one for 2000000 series numbers and one for 3000000 series numbers), I then created a trigger to add a record to the coresponding table, read back the autoinc number and add it to my table that stores the form information including the just created autoinc number for the right series of forms. Although it does work, I'm concerned that the numbers will get messed up under load. I'm not sure the @@IDENTITY will always return the right value when many people are using the system. (I cannot have duplicates and I need to use the numbering form show above. See code below. ** TRIGGER ** CREATE TRIGGER MAKEANID2 ON dbo.test2 AFTER INSERT AS SET NOCOUNT ON declare @someid int declare @someid2 int declare @startfrom int declare @test1 varchar(10) select @someid=@@IDENTITY select @test1 = (Select name1 from test2 where sysid = @someid ) if @test1 = 'select' begin insert into Tsel Default values select @someid2 = @@IDENTITY end if @test1 = 'adv' begin insert into Tadv Default values select @someid2 = @@IDENTITY end update test2 set name2=(@someid2) where sysid = @someid SET NOCOUNT OFF

  • Prevent duplicate rows with all non-unique columns (only with MySQL)?

    - by letseatfood
    Ho do I prevent a duplicate row from being created in a table with two columns, neither of which are unique? And can this be done using MySQL only, or does it require checks with my PHP script? Here is the CREATE query for the table in question (two other tables exist, users and roles): CREATE TABLE users_roles ( user_id INT(100) NOT NULL, role_id INT(100) NOT NULL, FOREIGN KEY (user_id) REFERENCES users(user_id), FOREIGN KEY (role_id) REFERENCES roles(role_id) ) ENGINE = INNODB; I would like the following query, if executed more than once, to throw an error: INSERT INTO users_roles (user_id, role_id) VALUES (1, 2); Please do not recommend bitmasks as an answer. Thanks!

  • node.js storing gamestate, how?

    - by expressnoob
    I'm writing a game in javascript, and to prevent cheating, i'm having the game be played on the server (it's a board game like a more complicated checkers). Since the game is fairly complex, I need to store the gamestate in order to validate client actions. Is it possible to store the gamestate in memory? Is that smart? Should I do that? If so, how? I don't know how that would work. I can also store in redis. And that sort of thing is pretty familiar to me and requires no explanation. But if I do store in redis, the problem is that on every single move, the game would need to get the data from redis and interpret and parse that data in order to recreate the gamestate from scratch. But since moves happen very frequently this seems very stupid to me. What should I do?

  • When is porting data from MySQL to CouchDB NOT advisable? Seeking cautionary tales

    - by dan
    I've dabbled in CouchDB and I have pretty good MySQL experience. I've also created one production application that uses both. I like MySQL but I've run into scaling/concurrency issues with MySQL that CouchDB advertises itself as a general solution for. The problem is that I have MySQL based applications that are pretty huge, and I don't really know whether it would be a good idea or not to try to port them over to a CouchDB datastore. I don't want to put in a lot of time and effort only to find out that my application is really not a good fit for CouchDB. Is there any sort of informed consensus on when porting a MySQL based app to CouchDB is NOT advisable? Any cautionary tales? I think CouchDB is really cool and want to use it more. I'd also like to know ahead of time what specific types of data querying scenarios CouchDB is really not good for, or if CouchDB can really replace MySQL for all the applications I create going forward.

  • DB management for Heroku apps

    - by zetarun
    Hi all, I'm fairly new to both Rails and Heroku but I'm seriously thinking of using it as a platform to deploy my Ruby/Rails applications. I want to use all the power of Heroku, so I prefer the "embedded" PostgreSQL managed by Heroku instead of the addon for Amazon RDS for MySQL, but I'm not so confident without the possibility to access my data in a SQL client... I know that in a well made app you have no need to access DB, but there are some situations (add rows to a config table, see data not mapped in a view, update some columns for debugging issues, performance monitoring, running queries for reporting, etc.) when this can be good... How do you solve this problem? What's you experience in a real life app powered by Heroku? Thanks!

  • Processing large recordsets in Rails

    - by japancheese
    Hello, I'm trying to perform a daily operation on a larger than normal dataset (2m+ records). However, Rails seems to take a very long time performing operations on such a dataset. Operations like Dataset.all.each do |data| ... end take a very long time to complete (I assume this is because it can't fit all the items into memory at once, right?). Does anyone have any strategies on how I could handle this situation? I know SQL would probably speed up the process, but I'm looking to use the Rails environment as I can do many more complicated things to the data than I can with just SQL statements.

  • If I take a large datatype. Will it affect performance in sql server

    - by Shantanu Gupta
    If i takes larger datatype where i know i should have taken datatype that was sufficient for possible values that i will insert into a table will affect any performance in sql server in terms of speed or any other way. eg. IsActive (0,1,2,3) not more than 3 in any case. I know i must take tinyint but due to some reasons consider it as compulsion, i am taking every numeric field as bigint and every character field as nVarchar(Max) Please give statistics if possible, to let me try to overcoming that compulsion. I need some solid analysis that can really make someone rethink before taking any datatype.

  • Linq to Entities Joins

    - by Bob Avallone
    I have a question about joins when using Linq to Entities. According to the documentation the use on the join without a qualifier performs like a left outer join. However when I execute the code below, I get a count returned of zero. But if I comment out the three join lines I get a count of 1. That would indicate that the join are acting as inner join. I have two questions. One which is right inner or outer as the default? Second how do I do the other one i.e. inner or outer? The key words on inner and outer do not work. var nprs = (from n in db.FMCSA_NPR join u in db.FMCSA_USER on n.CREATED_BY equals u.ID join t in db.LKUP_NPR_TYPE on n.NPR_TYPE_ID equals t.ID join s in db.LKUP_AUDIT_STATUS on n.NPR_STATUS_ID equals s.ID where n.ROLE_ID == pRoleId && n.OWNER_ID == pOwnerId && n.NPR_STATUS_ID == pNPRStatusId && n.ACTIVE == pActive select n).ToList(); if (nprs.Count() == 0) return null;

  • I need a mechanism for locating SQL server instances

    - by SzamDev
    Hi I have an idea and I want to apply it to my Application (C# .NET). When we connect to a DB (MS SQL Server 2008) in VS 2008, the ConnectionString saved in the Application Setting and it's a static varriable (no one can edit it unless you edit it inside VS 2008). I want a way to let my Application search for MS SQL Server and save it to Application Setting and use it to connect to my DB Programmatically. When my application start, the first thing to do is checking the ConnectionString if vaild, NOT Empty and test connection to MS SQL Server Successfully so if there is a proplem I think to show a window form to let the user enter some data like username and password for MS SQL Server 2008 Is there any way to do it?

  • How to Deal with SET ANSI_NULLS ON or OFF ?

    - by Shantanu Gupta
    I want to call this procedure that sends one value that can be NULL or any int value. SELECT DomainName, DomainCode FROM Tags.tblDomain WHERE SubDomainId =@SubDomainId I simply want to use this single query rather than what i m doing right now in below given code. I searched for this how could i do this then i got this Link. According to this I have to set ANSI_NULLS OFF I am not able to set this inside this procedure before executing my sql query and then reset it again after doing this. ALTER PROCEDURE [Tags].[spOnlineTest_SubDomainSelect] @SubDomainId INT AS BEGIN -- SET NOCOUNT ON added to prevent extra result sets from -- interfering with SELECT statements. SET NOCOUNT ON; -- Insert statements for procedure here IF @SubDomainId IS NULL SELECT DomainName, DomainCode FROM Tags.tblDomain WHERE SubDomainId IS NULL ELSE SELECT DomainName, DomainCode FROM Tags.tblDomain WHERE SubDomainId =@SubDomainId END What will be the better practice to do deal with ANSI_NULLS or Using If Else

  • What type of data store should I use for my ios app?

    - by mwiederrecht
    I am pretty new to ios and using servers so forgive me. I am building an ios app for research. I need to monitor things that the user does and then push it up to a server for analysis (yes, with user and IRB permission). On the client's side I need to keep quite a bit of data that won't really change except in the case of pulling an updated version from the server, and then a minimal amount of user-specific data. Most of the data I will collect needs to be pushed to a server for analysis and then can be deleted from the client side. I am struggling to figure out what kind of data store I need to use, especially since I am not quite sure how the pushing and pulling from the server process works yet. Does it make sense to use Core Data? XML? SQLite? I like the Core Data idea, but I am not sure what kind of problems I will run into when I need to send large amounts of data to it and from it from the server. I imagine I might need to send data in a different form than it is probably stored in on either end - so what kind of overhead am I likely to run into in the process of converting that data? Is there a good format to save stuff in that would work well for me on both ends AND for sending the data? As you can probably tell, I could use some advice. Thanks!
