  • How To Edit XML File

    - by thebourneid
    I have a movie collection catalogue with local links to folders and files for an easy access. Recently I reorganaized my entire hard disk space and I need to update the links and I'm trying to do that automatically with perl. I can export the data in a xml file and import it again. I can extract the new filepaths with the use of File::Find but I'm stuck with two problems. I have no idea how to connect the $title from the new filepath with the corresponding $title from the xml file. I'm dealing with such files for the first time and I don't know how to proceed with the replacement process. Here is what I've done till now use strict; use warnings; use File::Basename; use File::Find; use File::Spec; use XML::Simple; use Data::Dumper; my $dir_target = 'somepath'; find(\&a, $dir_target); sub a { /\.iso$/ or return; my $fn = $File::Find::name; $fn =~ s/\//\\/g; $fn =~ /(.*\\)(.*)/; my $path = $1; my $filename = $2; my $title = (File::Spec->splitdir($fn))[2]; $title =~ s/(.*?)\s\(\d+\)$/$1/; $title =~ s/~/:/; $title =~ s/`/?/; my $link_local = '<link><description>Folder</description><url>'.$path.'</url><urltype>Movie</urltype></link><link><description>'.$filename.'</description><url>'.$fn.'</url><urltype>Movie</urltype></link>' unless $title eq ''; my $txt = 'somepath/log.txt'; my $xml_in = XMLin('somepath/test.xml', ForceArray => 1, KeepRoot => 1); my $xml_out = XMLout($xml_in, OutputFile => 'somepath/test_out.xml', KeepRoot=>1); open F, ">>", $txt; print F $link_local."\n\n"; close F; } And here is a snippet of the data I need to edit. If found imdb and dvdempire link - do not touch. if found local links replace, otherwise insert. I'm willing to complete the code myself but need some directions how to proceed further. Thanks. <title>$title</title> ....... <links> <link> <description>IMDB</description> <url>http://www.imdb.com/title/VARIABLE</url> <urltype>URL</urltype> </link> <link> <description>DVD Empire</description> <url>http://www.dvdempire.com/VARIABLE</url> <urltype>URL</urltype> </link> <link> <description>Folder</description> <url>OLD_FOLDERPATH</url> <urltype>Movie</urltype> </link> <link> <description>OLD_FILENAME</description> <url>OLD_FILENAMEPATH</url> <urltype>Movie</urltype> </link> </links>

  • Checkboxes will not check in IE7 using Javascript, and yet no errors

    - by leeand00
    Okay I'm totally confused on this one. I have a script that receives a bunch of values from a JSON object and creates a bunch of checkboxes and either checks or unchecks a these checkboxes based on their values. This script treats me like a woman treats me... "If you don't know what's wrong, then I'm not going to tell you..." The script works correctly in IE8, Firefox3, etc... etc... However... In IE7 the script fails to check off the checkboxes. It displays no errors and from what I can tell, the script runs just fine. I just doesn't check any of the checkboxes, and I don't know why... shoppingCart['Update_Stock_Item_0_NRD%5FHAT2'] = { 'propeller': { 'label' : 'propeller', 'optionValues' : { 'on' : { 'selected': 'selected' }, 'off' : { 'selected': '' }, '' : new String() } }, 'sunLogo': { 'label' : 'sunLogo', 'optionValues' : { 'on' : { 'selected': 'selected' }, 'off' : { 'selected': '' }, '' : new String() } }, 'MSLogo': { 'label' : 'sunLogo', 'optionValues' : { 'on' : { 'selected': 'selected' }, 'off' : { 'selected': '' }, '' : new String() } } }; function stockInit() { alert("BEGIN: stockInit()"); // TODO: You will recieve an "on" and an "off" option, // One will have a "selected" attribute of "selected", // and the other will have a "selected" attribute of "" // // The option that has the "selected" attribute of "" // will generate a checkbox that is not checked. // // The option that has the "selected attribute of "selected" // will generate a checkbox that is checked. // // Why? You ask...because that's just the way the thing is // setup. for(var item in shoppingCart) { // // console.log("processing item: " + item); var optionContainer = document.getElementById(item + "_optionContainer"); for(var option in shoppingCart[item]) { if(option != "blank") { // // console.log("option: " + option); var currentOption = shoppingCart[item][option]['optionValues']; // // console.log("currentOption['on']['selected']: " + currentOption['on']['selected']); // // console.log("currentOption['off']['selected']: " + currentOption['off']['selected']); // Really you only have to check the one, but just to be through-o var selected = (currentOption['on']['selected'] == 'selected') ? true : false; selected = (currentOption['off']['selected'] == 'selected') ? false : true; var label = document.createElement("LABEL"); var labelText = document.createTextNode(shoppingCart[item][option]['label']); var optionInput = document.createElement("INPUT"); var hiddenInput = document.createElement("INPUT"); optionInput.setAttribute("type", "checkbox"); optionInput.checked = selected; optionInput.setAttribute("id", option); alert(optionInput.id); alert(optionInput.checked); hiddenInput.setAttribute("type", "hidden"); hiddenInput.setAttribute("name", option); hiddenInput.setAttribute("id", option + "_hiddenValue"); hiddenInput.setAttribute("value", (optionInput.checked) ? "on" : "off"); label.appendChild(optionInput); label.appendChild(labelText); label.appendChild(hiddenInput); (function(id) { optionInput.onclick = function() { var hiddenInput = document.getElementById(id + "_hiddenValue"); hiddenInput.setAttribute("value", (this.checked == true) ? "on" : "off"); alert("this.id: " + this.id); alert("this.checked: " + this.checked); } })(optionInput.id); optionContainer.appendChild(label); } } // // console.log("processing item of " + item + " complete"); } alert("END: stockInit()"); } And please don't ask why I'm doing things this way...all I can really tell you is that I don't have access to the backend code...so I get what I get...

  • Increasing speed of python code

    - by Curious2learn
    Hi, I have some python code that has many classes. I used cProfile to find that the total time to run the program is 68 seconds. I found that the following function in a class called Buyers takes about 60 seconds of those 68 seconds. I have to run the program about 100 times, so any increase in speed will help. Can you suggest ways to increase the speed by modifying the code? If you need more information that will help, please let me know. def qtyDemanded(self, timePd, priceVector): '''Returns quantity demanded in period timePd. In addition, also updates the list of customers and non-customers. Inputs: timePd and priceVector Output: count of people for whom priceVector[-1] < utility ''' ## Initialize count of customers to zero ## Set self.customers and self.nonCustomers to empty lists price = priceVector[-1] count = 0 self.customers = [] self.nonCustomers = [] for person in self.people: if person.utility >= price: person.customer = 1 self.customers.append(person) else: person.customer = 0 self.nonCustomers.append(person) return len(self.customers) self.people is a list of person objects. Each person has customer and utility as its attributes. EDIT - responsed added ------------------------------------- Thanks so much for the suggestions. Here is the response to some questions and suggestions people have kindly made. I have not tried them all, but will try others and write back later. (1) @amber - the function is accessed 80,000 times. (2) @gnibbler and others - self.people is a list of Person objects in memory. Not connected to a database. (3) @Hugh Bothwell cumtime taken by the original function - 60.8 s (accessed 80000 times) cumtime taken by the new function with local function aliases as suggested - 56.4 s (accessed 80000 times) (4) @rotoglup and @Martin Thomas I have not tried your solutions yet. I need to check the rest of the code to see the places where I use self.customers before I can make the change of not appending the customers to self.customers list. But I will try this and write back. (5) @TryPyPy - thanks for your kind offer to check the code. Let me first read a little on the suggestions you have made to see if those will be feasible to use. EDIT 2 Some suggested that since I am flagging the customers and noncustomers in the self.people, I should try without creating separate lists of self.customers and self.noncustomers using append. Instead, I should loop over the self.people to find the number of customers. I tried the following code and timed both functions below f_w_append and f_wo_append. I did find that the latter takes less time, but it is still 96% of the time taken by the former. That is, it is a very small increase in the speed. @TryPyPy - The following piece of code is complete enough to check the bottleneck function, in case your offer is still there to check it with other compilers. Thanks again to everyone who replied. import numpy class person(object): def __init__(self, util): self.utility = util self.customer = 0 class population(object): def __init__(self, numpeople): self.people = [] self.cus = [] self.noncus = [] numpy.random.seed(1) utils = numpy.random.uniform(0, 300, numpeople) for u in utils: per = person(u) self.people.append(per) popn = population(300) def f_w_append(): '''Function with append''' P = 75 cus = [] noncus = [] for per in popn.people: if per.utility >= P: per.customer = 1 cus.append(per) else: per.customer = 0 noncus.append(per) return len(cus) def f_wo_append(): '''Function without append''' P = 75 for per in popn.people: if per.utility >= P: per.customer = 1 else: per.customer = 0 numcustomers = 0 for per in popn.people: if per.customer == 1: numcustomers += 1 return numcustomers

  • Craziest JavaScript behavior I've ever seen

    - by Dan Ray
    And that's saying something. This is based on the Google Maps sample for Directions in the Maps API v3. <html> <head> <meta name="viewport" content="initial-scale=1.0, user-scalable=no"/> <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"/> <title>Google Directions</title> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://maps.google.com/maps/api/js?sensor=false"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> var directionDisplay; var directionsService = new google.maps.DirectionsService(); var map; function initialize() { directionsDisplay = new google.maps.DirectionsRenderer(); var myOptions = { zoom:7, mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP } map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map_canvas"), myOptions); directionsDisplay.setMap(map); directionsDisplay.setPanel(document.getElementById("directionsPanel")); } function render() { var start; if(navigator.geolocation) { navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition(function(position) { start = new google.maps.LatLng(position.coords.latitude,position.coords.longitude); }, function() { handleNoGeolocation(browserSupportFlag); }); } else { // Browser doesn't support Geolocation handleNoGeolocation(); } alert("booga booga"); var end = '<?= $_REQUEST['destination'] ?>'; var request = { origin:start, destination:end, travelMode: google.maps.DirectionsTravelMode.DRIVING }; directionsService.route(request, function(response, status) { if (status == google.maps.DirectionsStatus.OK) { directionsDisplay.setDirections(response); } }); } </script> </head> <body style="margin:0px; padding:0px;" onload="initialize()"> <div><div id="map_canvas" style="float:left;width:70%; height:100%"></div> <div id="directionsPanel" style="float:right;width:30%;height 100%"></div> <script type="text/javascript">render();</script> </body> </html> See that "alert('booga booga')" in there? With that in place, this all works fantastic. Comment that out, and var start is undefined when we hit the line to define var request. I discovered this when I removed the alert I put in there to show me the value of var start, and it quit working. If I DO ask it to alert me the value of var start, it tells me it's undefined, BUT it has a valid (and accurate!) value when we define var request a few lines later. I'm suspecting it's a timing issue--like an asynchronous something is having time to complete in the background in the moment it takes me to dismiss the alert. Any thoughts on work-arounds?

  • Optimizing Python code with many attribute and dictionary lookups

    - by gotgenes
    I have written a program in Python which spends a large amount of time looking up attributes of objects and values from dictionary keys. I would like to know if there's any way I can optimize these lookup times, potentially with a C extension, to reduce the time of execution, or if I need to simply re-implement the program in a compiled language. The program implements some algorithms using a graph. It runs prohibitively slowly on our data sets, so I profiled the code with cProfile using a reduced data set that could actually complete. The vast majority of the time is being burned in one function, and specifically in two statements, generator expressions, within the function: The generator expression at line 202 is neighbors_in_selected_nodes = (neighbor for neighbor in node_neighbors if neighbor in selected_nodes) and the generator expression at line 204 is neighbor_z_scores = (interaction_graph.node[neighbor]['weight'] for neighbor in neighbors_in_selected_nodes) The source code for this function of context provided below. selected_nodes is a set of nodes in the interaction_graph, which is a NetworkX Graph instance. node_neighbors is an iterator from Graph.neighbors_iter(). Graph itself uses dictionaries for storing nodes and edges. Its Graph.node attribute is a dictionary which stores nodes and their attributes (e.g., 'weight') in dictionaries belonging to each node. Each of these lookups should be amortized constant time (i.e., O(1)), however, I am still paying a large penalty for the lookups. Is there some way which I can speed up these lookups (e.g., by writing parts of this as a C extension), or do I need to move the program to a compiled language? Below is the full source code for the function that provides the context; the vast majority of execution time is spent within this function. def calculate_node_z_prime( node, interaction_graph, selected_nodes ): """Calculates a z'-score for a given node. The z'-score is based on the z-scores (weights) of the neighbors of the given node, and proportional to the z-score (weight) of the given node. Specifically, we find the maximum z-score of all neighbors of the given node that are also members of the given set of selected nodes, multiply this z-score by the z-score of the given node, and return this value as the z'-score for the given node. If the given node has no neighbors in the interaction graph, the z'-score is defined as zero. Returns the z'-score as zero or a positive floating point value. :Parameters: - `node`: the node for which to compute the z-prime score - `interaction_graph`: graph containing the gene-gene or gene product-gene product interactions - `selected_nodes`: a `set` of nodes fitting some criterion of interest (e.g., annotated with a term of interest) """ node_neighbors = interaction_graph.neighbors_iter(node) neighbors_in_selected_nodes = (neighbor for neighbor in node_neighbors if neighbor in selected_nodes) neighbor_z_scores = (interaction_graph.node[neighbor]['weight'] for neighbor in neighbors_in_selected_nodes) try: max_z_score = max(neighbor_z_scores) # max() throws a ValueError if its argument has no elements; in this # case, we need to set the max_z_score to zero except ValueError, e: # Check to make certain max() raised this error if 'max()' in e.args[0]: max_z_score = 0 else: raise e z_prime = interaction_graph.node[node]['weight'] * max_z_score return z_prime Here are the top couple of calls according to cProfiler, sorted by time. ncalls tottime percall cumtime percall filename:lineno(function) 156067701 352.313 0.000 642.072 0.000 bpln_contextual.py:204(<genexpr>) 156067701 289.759 0.000 289.759 0.000 bpln_contextual.py:202(<genexpr>) 13963893 174.047 0.000 816.119 0.000 {max} 13963885 69.804 0.000 936.754 0.000 bpln_contextual.py:171(calculate_node_z_prime) 7116883 61.982 0.000 61.982 0.000 {method 'update' of 'set' objects}

  • Intrinsics program (SSE) - g++ - help needed

    - by Sriram
    Hi all, This is the first time I am posting a question on stackoverflow, so please try and overlook any errors I may have made in formatting my question/code. But please do point the same out to me so I may be more careful. I was trying to write some simple intrinsics routines for the addition of two 128-bit (containing 4 float variables) numbers. I found some code on the net and was trying to get it to run on my system. The code is as follows: //this is a sample Intrinsics program to add two vectors. #include <iostream> #include <iomanip> #include <xmmintrin.h> #include <stdio.h> using namespace std; struct vector4 { float x, y, z, w; }; //functions to operate on them. vector4 set_vector(float x, float y, float z, float w = 0) { vector4 temp; temp.x = x; temp.y = y; temp.z = z; temp.w = w; return temp; } void print_vector(const vector4& v) { cout << " This is the contents of vector: " << endl; cout << " > vector.x = " << v.x << endl; cout << " vector.y = " << v.y << endl; cout << " vector.z = " << v.z << endl; cout << " vector.w = " << v.w << endl; } vector4 sse_vector4_add(const vector4&a, const vector4& b) { vector4 result; asm volatile ( "movl $a, %eax" //move operands into registers. "\n\tmovl $b, %ebx" "\n\tmovups (%eax), xmm0" //move register contents into SSE registers. "\n\tmovups (%ebx), xmm1" "\n\taddps xmm0, xmm1" //add the elements. addps operates on single-precision vectors. "\n\t movups xmm0, result" //move result into vector4 type data. ); return result; } int main() { vector4 a, b, result; a = set_vector(1.1, 2.1, 3.2, 4.5); b = set_vector(2.2, 4.2, 5.6); result = sse_vector4_add(a, b); print_vector(a); print_vector(b); print_vector(result); return 0; } The g++ parameters I use are: g++ -Wall -pedantic -g -march=i386 -msse intrinsics_SSE_example.C -o h The errors I get are as follows: intrinsics_SSE_example.C: Assembler messages: intrinsics_SSE_example.C:45: Error: too many memory references for movups intrinsics_SSE_example.C:46: Error: too many memory references for movups intrinsics_SSE_example.C:47: Error: too many memory references for addps intrinsics_SSE_example.C:48: Error: too many memory references for movups I have spent a lot of time on trying to debug these errors, googled them and so on. I am a complete noob to Intrinsics and so may have overlooked some important things. Any help is appreciated, Thanks, Sriram.

  • Change the content of a <style> element through JavaScript

    - by paercebal
    The Problem I have the following code: <html> <head> <style id="ID_Style"> .myStyle { color : #FF0000 ; } </style> </head> <body> <p class="myStyle"> Hello World ! </p> </body> </html> And I want to modify the contents of <style> through JavaScript. The Expected Solution The first solution was to use the innerHTML property of the style element (retrieved through its id), but while it works on Firefox, it fails on Internet Explorer 7. So, I used pure DOM methods, that is, creating an element called style, a text node with the desired content, and append the text node as a child of the style node, etc. It fails, too. According to MSDN, the <style> element has an innerHTML property, and according to W3C, the <style> element is a HTMLStyleElement, which derives from HTMLElement, deriving from Element deriving from Node, which has the appendChild method. It seems to behave as if the content of a <style> element was readonly on Internet Explorer. The Question So the question is: Is there a way to modify the content of a <style> element on Internet Explorer? While the current problem is with IE7, a cross-browser solution would be cool, if possible. Appendix Sources: Style Element (MSDN): http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms535898.aspx HTMLStyleElement (W3C): http://www.w3.org/TR/2003/REC-DOM-Level-2-HTML-20030109/html.html#ID-16428977 Complete Test Code You can use this test code if you want to reproduce your problem: <html> <head> <style id="ID_Style"> .myStyle { color : #FF0000 ; } </style> <script> function replaceStyleViaDOM(p_strContent) { var oOld = document.getElementById("ID_Style") ; var oParent = oOld.parentNode ; oParent.removeChild(oOld) ; var oNew = document.createElement("style") ; oParent.appendChild(oNew) ; oNew.setAttribute("id", "ID_Style") ; var oText = document.createTextNode(p_strContent) ; oNew.appendChild(oText) ; } function replaceStyleViaInnerHTML(p_strContent) { document.getElementById("ID_Style").innerHTML = p_strContent ; } </script> <script> function setRedViaDOM() { replaceStyleViaDOM("\n.myStyle { color : #FF0000 ; }\n") } function setRedViaInnerHTML() { replaceStyleViaInnerHTML("\n.myStyle { color : #FF0000 ; }\n") } function setBlueViaDOM() { replaceStyleViaDOM("\n.myStyle { color : #0000FF ; }\n") } function setBlueViaInnerHTML() { replaceStyleViaInnerHTML("\n.myStyle { color : #0000FF ; }\n") } function alertStyle() { alert("*******************\n" + document.getElementById("ID_Style").innerHTML + "\n*******************") ; } </script> </head> <body> <div> <button type="button" onclick="alertStyle()">alert Style</button> <br /> <button type="button" onclick="setRedViaDOM()">set Red via DOM</button> <button type="button" onclick="setRedViaDOM()">set Red via InnerHTML</button> <br /> <button type="button" onclick="setBlueViaDOM()">set Blue via DOM</button> <button type="button" onclick="setBlueViaInnerHTML()">set Blue via InnerHTML</button> </div> <p class="myStyle"> Hello World ! </p> </body> </html> Thanks !

  • How can I get SQL Server transactions to use record-level locks?

    - by Joe White
    We have an application that was originally written as a desktop app, lo these many years ago. It starts a transaction whenever you open an edit screen, and commits if you click OK, or rolls back if you click Cancel. This worked okay for a desktop app, but now we're trying to move to ADO.NET and SQL Server, and the long-running transactions are problematic. I found that we'll have a problem when multiple users are all trying to edit (different subsets of) the same table at the same time. In our old database, each user's transaction would acquire record-level locks to every record they modified during their transaction; since different users were editing different records, everyone gets their own locks and everything works. But in SQL Server, as soon as one user edits a record inside a transaction, SQL Server appears to get a lock on the entire table. When a second user tries to edit a different record in the same table, the second user's app simply locks up, because the SqlConnection blocks until the first user either commits or rolls back. I'm aware that long-running transactions are bad, and I know that the best solution would be to change these screens so that they no longer keep transactions open for a long time. But since that would mean some invasive and risky changes, I also want to research whether there's a way to get this code up and running as-is, just so I know what my options are. How can I get two different users' transactions in SQL Server to lock individual records instead of the entire table? Here's a quick-and-dirty console app that illustrates the issue. I've created a database called "test1", with one table called "Values" that just has ID (int) and Value (nvarchar) columns. If you run the app, it asks for an ID to modify, starts a transaction, modifies that record, and then leaves the transaction open until you press ENTER. I want to be able to start the program and tell it to update ID 1; let it get its transaction and modify the record; start a second copy of the program and tell it to update ID 2; have it able to update (and commit) while the first app's transaction is still open. Currently it freezes at step 4, until I go back to the first copy of the app and close it or press ENTER so it commits. The call to command.ExecuteNonQuery blocks until the first connection is closed. public static void Main() { Console.Write("ID to update: "); var id = int.Parse(Console.ReadLine()); Console.WriteLine("Starting transaction"); using (var scope = new TransactionScope()) using (var connection = new SqlConnection(@"Data Source=localhost\sqlexpress;Initial Catalog=test1;Integrated Security=True")) { connection.Open(); var command = connection.CreateCommand(); command.CommandText = "UPDATE [Values] SET Value = 'Value' WHERE ID = " + id; Console.WriteLine("Updating record"); command.ExecuteNonQuery(); Console.Write("Press ENTER to end transaction: "); Console.ReadLine(); scope.Complete(); } } Here are some things I've already tried, with no change in behavior: Changing the transaction isolation level to "read uncommitted" Specifying a "WITH (ROWLOCK)" on the UPDATE statement

  • evaluating cost/benefits of using extension methods in C# => 3.0

    - by BillW
    Hi, In what circumstances (usage scenarios) would you choose to write an extension rather than sub-classing an object ? < full disclosure : I am not an MS employee; I do not know Mitsu Furota personally; I do know the author of the open-source Componax library mentioned here, but I have no business dealings with him whatsoever; I am not creating, or planning to create any commercial product using extensions : in sum : this post is from pure intellectal curiousity related to my trying to (continually) become aware of "best practices" I find the idea of extension methods "cool," and obviously you can do "far-out" things with them as in the many examples you can in Mitsu Furota's (MS) blog postslink text. A personal friend wrote the open-source Componax librarylink text, and there's some remarkable facilities in there; but he is in complete command of his small company with total control over code guidelines, and every line of code "passes through his hands." While this is speculation on my part : I think/guess other issues might come into play in a medium-to-large software team situation re use of Extensions. Looking at MS's guidelines at link text, you find : In general, you will probably be calling extension methods far more often than implementing your own. ... In general, we recommend that you implement extension methods sparingly and only when you have to. Whenever possible, client code that must extend an existing type should do so by creating a new type derived from the existing type. For more information, see Inheritance (C# Programming Guide). ... When the compiler encounters a method invocation, it first looks for a match in the type's instance methods. If no match is found, it will search for any extension methods that are defined for the type, and bind to the first extension method that it finds. And at Ms's link text : Extension methods present no specific security vulnerabilities. They can never be used to impersonate existing methods on a type, because all name collisions are resolved in favor of the instance or static method defined by the type itself. Extension methods cannot access any private data in the extended class. Factors that seem obvious to me would include : I assume you would not write an extension unless you expected it be used very generally and very frequently. On the other hand : couldn't you say the same thing about sub-classing ? Knowing we can compile them into a seperate dll, and add the compiled dll, and reference it, and then use the extensions : is "cool," but does that "balance out" the cost inherent in the compiler first having to check to see if instance methods are defined as described above. Or the cost, in case of a "name clash," of using the Static invocation methods to make sure your extension is invoked rather than the instance definition ? How frequent use of Extensions would affect run-time performance or memory use : I have no idea. So, I'd appreciate your thoughts, or knowing about how/when you do, or don't do, use Extensions, compared to sub-classing. thanks, Bill

  • Organising XML results as cells in container (AS3)

    - by PJ Palomaki
    Hi, I'm having some problems figuring out how to organise data pulled off XML in cells within a container. I'm sure this should be a basic thing in AS3, but my head's fried.. can anyone help? Basically an array if fed to callThumbs() which iterates through it and compares the entries with preloaded XML _my_images. If match is found, it's sent to processXML which loads all relevant info and loads a .jpg thumbnail. All this is then fed to createCell which creates a specific cell with position values depending on x_counter and y_counter values (4 cells in a row) and adds the cell into a container _container_mc. The Problem: This all works fine and looks fine, the problem is that the cells within the container do not display in descending order. They are in random order, probably because some of the .jpg's takes longer to load etc. How do I easily organise the cells within the container in descending order by the XML .id value? Or how do I tell Flash to wait till the thumbnail and data is loaded and the cell created and added? Thanks guys, would really appreciate all the help! PJ //Flash (AS3) function callThumbs(_my_results:Array):void { // selector = 1 for specific items, 2 for search items var _thumb_url:XML; for (var r:Number=0; r < _my_results.length; r++) { // iterate through results vector, compare with _my_images XML .id for (var i:Number=0; i < _my_images.length(); i++) { if (_my_images[i][email protected]() == _my_results[r]) { _thumb_url=_my_images[i]; processXML(_thumb_url, i); } } } } // End callThumbs function processXML(imageXML:XML, num:Number) { // Processes XML data and loads .jpg thumbnail var _thumb_loader=new Loader(); _thumb_loader.load(new URLRequest("thumbs/thumb_sm/" + imageXML.@id + "_st.jpg")); _thumb_loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,thumbLoaded); _thumb_loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, urlNotFound); var id:XMLList = new XMLList; id = imageXML.@id; var description:XMLList = new XMLList; description = imageXML.@description; function urlNotFound(event:IOErrorEvent):void { trace("The image URL '" + String(imageXML.@id) + "' was not found."); } function thumbLoaded(e:Event):void { var imageLoader:Loader = Loader(e.target.loader); var bm:Bitmap = Bitmap(imageLoader.content); createCell(bm, id, description, num); adjustFooterBar(); // Adjust bottom footer } } // End processXML private function createCell(_image:Bitmap, _id, _description:String, _position):void { // Creates a cell with data, add to container var _cell_mc = new CellTitle(); _cell_mc.initCell(_image, _id, _description, _position, x_counter, y_counter); if (x_counter+1 < 4) { x_counter++; } else { x_counter = 0; y_counter++; } _container_mc.addChild(_cell_mc); // movieclip container } // End createCell

  • Opinions on Dual-Salt authentication for low sensitivity user accounts?

    - by Heleon
    EDIT - Might be useful for someone in the future... Looking around the bcrypt class in php a little more, I think I understand what's going on, and why bcrypt is secure. In essence, I create a random blowfish salt, which contains the number of crypt rounds to perform during the encryption step, which is then hashed using the crypt() function in php. There is no need for me to store the salt I used in the database, because it's not directly needed to decrypt, and the only way to gain a password match to an email address (without knowing the salt values or number of rounds) would be to brute force plain text passwords against the hash stored in the database using the crypt() function to verify, which, if you've got a strong password, would just be more effort than it's worth for the user information i'm storing... I am currently working on a web project requiring user accounts. The application is CodeIgniter on the server side, so I am using Ion Auth as the authentication library. I have written an authentication system before, where I used 2 salts to secure the passwords. One was a server-wide salt which sat as an environment variable in the .htaccess file, and the other was a randomly generated salt which was created at user signup. This was the method I used in that authentication system for hashing the password: $chars = "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ0123456789"; //create a random string to be used as the random salt for the password hash $size = strlen($chars); for($i = 0; $i < 22; $i++) { $str .= $chars[rand(0, $size - 1)]; } //create the random salt to be used for the crypt $r_blowfish_salt = "$2a$12$" . $str . "$"; //grab the website salt $salt = getenv('WEBSITE_SALT'); //combine the website salt, and the password $password_to_hash = $pwd . $salt; //crypt the password string using blowfish $password = crypt($password_to_hash, $r_blowfish_salt); I have no idea whether this has holes in it or not, but regardless, I moved over to Ion Auth for a more complete set of functions to use with CI. I noticed that Ion only uses a single salt as part of its hashing mechanism (although does recommend that encryption_key is set in order to secure the database session.) The information that will be stored in my database is things like name, email address, location by country, some notes (which will be recommended that they do not contain sensitive information), and a link to a Facebook, Twitter or Flickr account. Based on this, i'm not convinced it's necessary for me to have an SSL connection on the secure pages of my site. My question is, is there a particular reason why only 1 salt is being used as part as the Ion Auth library? Is it implied that I write my own additional salting in front of the functionality it provides, or am I missing something? Furthermore, is it even worth using 2 salts, or once an attacker has the random salt and the hashed password, are all bets off anyway? (I assume not, but worth checking if i'm worrying about nothing...)

  • Why is this XMLHttpRequest sample from Mozilla is not working in Firefox 3?

    - by j0rd4n
    I'm trying to get the sample code from Mozilla that consumes a REST web service to work under Firefox 3.0.10. The following code does NOT work in Firefox but does in IE 8! Why is this not working? Does IE 8 have support for XMLHttpRequest? Most examples I've seen use the ActiveX allocation. What should I be doing? XMLHttpRequest seems more standardized. Sample: var req = new XMLHttpRequest(); req.open('GET', 'http://localhost/myRESTfulService/resource', false); // throws 'undefined' exception req.send(null); if(req.status == 0) dump(req.responseText); The open statement is throwing an exception with the description 'undefined'. This is strange as I allocate the req object, am running it in Firefox, and checked to make sure it is defined before calling open (which it says it is of type 'object'). I've also tried the asynchronous version of this with no luck. EDIT 2: Below is my most recent code: function createRequestObject() { if( window.XMLHttpRequest ) { return new XMLHttpRequest(); } else if( window.ActiveXObject ) { return new ActiveXObject( "Microsoft.XMLHTTP" ); } return null; } function handleResponse( req ) { document.writeln( "Handling response..." ); // NEVER GETS CALLED if( req.readyState == 0 ) { document.writeln( "UNITIALIZED" ); } else if( req.readyState == 1 ) { document.writeln( "LOADING" ); } else if( req.readyState == 2 ) { document.writeln( "LOADED" ); } else if( req.readyState == 3 ) { document.writeln( "INTERACTIVE" ); } else if( req.readyState == 4 ) { document.writeln( "COMPLETE" ); if( req.status == 200 ) { document.writeln( "SUCCESS" ); } } } document.writeln( "" ); var req = createRequestObject(); try { document.writeln( "Opening service..." ); req.onreadystatechange = function() { handleResponse( req ); }; req.open('POST', 'http://localhost/test/test2.txt', true); // WORKS IN IE8 & NOT FIREFOX document.writeln( "Sending service request..." ); req.send(''); document.writeln( "Done" ); } catch( err ) { document.writeln( "ERROR: " + err.description ); } EDIT 3: Alright, I reworked this in jQuery. jQuery works great in IE but it throws 'Undefined' when running from Firefox. I double checked and 'Enable JavaScript' is turned on in Firefox - seems to work fine in all other web pages. Below is the jQuery code: function handleResponse( resp ) { alert( "Name: " + resp.Name ); alert( "URL: " + resp.URL ); } $(document).ready( function() { $("a").click( function(event) { try { $.get( "http://localhost/services/ezekielservices/configservice/ezekielservices.svc/test", "{}", function(data) { handleResponse( data ); }, "json" ); } catch( err ) { alert("'$.get' threw an exception: " + err.description); } event.preventDefault(); }); } ); // End 'ready' check Summary of Solution: Alright, web lesson 101. My problem was indeed cross-domain. I was viewing my site unpublished (just on the file system) which was hitting a published service. When I published my site under the same domain it worked. Which also brings up an important distinction between IE and Firefox. When IE experiences this scenario, it prompts the user whether or not they accept the cross-domain call. Firefox throws an exception. While I'm fine with an exception, a more descriptive one would have been helpful. Thanks for all those who helped me.

  • What am I doing wrong with this use of StructLayout( LayoutKind.Explicit ) when calling a PInvoke st

    - by csharptest.net
    The following is a complete program. It works fine as long as you don't uncomment the '#define BROKEN' at the top. The break is due to a PInvoke failing to marshal a union correctly. The INPUT_RECORD structure in question has a number of substructures that might be used depending on the value in EventType. What I don't understand is that when I define only the single child structure of KEY_EVENT_RECORD it works with the explicit declaration at offset 4. But when I add the other structures at the same offset the structure's content get's totally hosed. //UNCOMMENT THIS LINE TO BREAK IT: //#define BROKEN using System; using System.Runtime.InteropServices; class ConIOBroken { static void Main() { int nRead = 0; IntPtr handle = GetStdHandle(-10 /*STD_INPUT_HANDLE*/); Console.Write("Press the letter: 'a': "); INPUT_RECORD record = new INPUT_RECORD(); do { ReadConsoleInputW(handle, ref record, 1, ref nRead); } while (record.EventType != 0x0001/*KEY_EVENT*/); Assert.AreEqual((short)0x0001, record.EventType); Assert.AreEqual(true, record.KeyEvent.bKeyDown); Assert.AreEqual(0x00000000, record.KeyEvent.dwControlKeyState & ~0x00000020);//strip num-lock and test Assert.AreEqual('a', record.KeyEvent.UnicodeChar); Assert.AreEqual((short)0x0001, record.KeyEvent.wRepeatCount); Assert.AreEqual((short)0x0041, record.KeyEvent.wVirtualKeyCode); Assert.AreEqual((short)0x001e, record.KeyEvent.wVirtualScanCode); } static class Assert { public static void AreEqual(object x, object y) { if (!x.Equals(y)) throw new ApplicationException(); } } [DllImport("Kernel32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Unicode, SetLastError = true)] public static extern IntPtr GetStdHandle(int nStdHandle); [DllImport("Kernel32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Unicode, SetLastError = true)] public static extern bool ReadConsoleInputW(IntPtr hConsoleInput, ref INPUT_RECORD lpBuffer, int nLength, ref int lpNumberOfEventsRead); [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Explicit)] public struct INPUT_RECORD { [FieldOffset(0)] public short EventType; //union { [FieldOffset(4)] public KEY_EVENT_RECORD KeyEvent; #if BROKEN [FieldOffset(4)] public MOUSE_EVENT_RECORD MouseEvent; [FieldOffset(4)] public WINDOW_BUFFER_SIZE_RECORD WindowBufferSizeEvent; [FieldOffset(4)] public MENU_EVENT_RECORD MenuEvent; [FieldOffset(4)] public FOCUS_EVENT_RECORD FocusEvent; //} #endif } [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)] public struct KEY_EVENT_RECORD { public bool bKeyDown; public short wRepeatCount; public short wVirtualKeyCode; public short wVirtualScanCode; public char UnicodeChar; public int dwControlKeyState; } [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)] public struct MOUSE_EVENT_RECORD { public COORD dwMousePosition; public int dwButtonState; public int dwControlKeyState; public int dwEventFlags; }; [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)] public struct WINDOW_BUFFER_SIZE_RECORD { public COORD dwSize; } [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)] public struct MENU_EVENT_RECORD { public int dwCommandId; } [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)] public struct FOCUS_EVENT_RECORD { public bool bSetFocus; } [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)] public struct COORD { public short X; public short Y; } } UPDATE: For those worried about the struct declarations themselves: bool is treated as a 32-bit value the reason for offset(4) on the data is to allow for the 32-bit structure alignment which prevents the union from beginning at offset 2. Again, my problem isn't making PInvoke work at all, it's trying to figure out why these additional structures (supposedly at the same offset) are fowling up the data by simply adding them.

  • Merging .net object graph

    - by Tiju John
    Hi guys, has anyone come across any scenario wherein you needed to merge one object with another object of same type, merging the complete object graph. for e.g. If i have a person object and one person object is having first name and other the last name, some way to merge both the objects into a single object. public class Person { public Int32 Id { get; set; } public string FirstName { get; set; } public string LastName { get; set; } } public class MyClass { //both instances refer to the same person, probably coming from different sources Person obj1 = new Person(); obj1.Id=1; obj1.FirstName = "Tiju"; Person obj2 = new Person(); ojb2.Id=1; obj2.LastName = "John"; //some way of merging both the object obj1.MergeObject(obj2); //?? //obj1.Id // = 1 //obj1.FirstName // = "Tiju" //obj1.LastName // = "John" } I had come across such type of requirement and I wrote an extension method to do the same. public static class ExtensionMethods { private const string Key = "Id"; public static IList MergeList(this IList source, IList target) { Dictionary itemData = new Dictionary(); //fill the dictionary for existing list string temp = null; foreach (object item in source) { temp = GetKeyOfRecord(item); if (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(temp)) itemData[temp] = item; } //if the same id exists, merge the object, otherwise add to the existing list. foreach (object item in target) { temp = GetKeyOfRecord(item); if (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(temp) && itemData.ContainsKey(temp)) itemData[temp].MergeObject(item); else source.Add(item); } return source; } private static string GetKeyOfRecord(object o) { string keyValue = null; Type pointType = o.GetType(); if (pointType != null) foreach (PropertyInfo propertyItem in pointType.GetProperties()) { if (propertyItem.Name == Key) { keyValue = (string)propertyItem.GetValue(o, null); } } return keyValue; } public static object MergeObject(this object source, object target) { if (source != null && target != null) { Type typeSource = source.GetType(); Type typeTarget = target.GetType(); //if both types are same, try to merge if (typeSource != null && typeTarget != null && typeSource.FullName == typeTarget.FullName) if (typeSource.IsClass && !typeSource.Namespace.Equals("System", StringComparison.InvariantCulture)) { PropertyInfo[] propertyList = typeSource.GetProperties(); for (int index = 0; index < propertyList.Length; index++) { Type tempPropertySourceValueType = null; object tempPropertySourceValue = null; Type tempPropertyTargetValueType = null; object tempPropertyTargetValue = null; //get rid of indexers if (propertyList[index].GetIndexParameters().Length == 0) { tempPropertySourceValue = propertyList[index].GetValue(source, null); tempPropertyTargetValue = propertyList[index].GetValue(target, null); } if (tempPropertySourceValue != null) tempPropertySourceValueType = tempPropertySourceValue.GetType(); if (tempPropertyTargetValue != null) tempPropertyTargetValueType = tempPropertyTargetValue.GetType(); //if the property is a list IList ilistSource = tempPropertySourceValue as IList; IList ilistTarget = tempPropertyTargetValue as IList; if (ilistSource != null || ilistTarget != null) { if (ilistSource != null) ilistSource.MergeList(ilistTarget); else propertyList[index].SetValue(source, ilistTarget, null); } //if the property is a Dto else if (tempPropertySourceValue != null || tempPropertyTargetValue != null) { if (tempPropertySourceValue != null) tempPropertySourceValue.MergeObject(tempPropertyTargetValue); else propertyList[index].SetValue(source, tempPropertyTargetValue, null); } } } } return source; } } However, this works when the source property is null, if target has it, it will copy that to source. IT can still be improved to merge when inconsistencies are there e.g. if FirstName="Tiju" and FirstName="John" Any commments appreciated. Thanks TJ

  • How do I get jqGrid to work using ASP.NET + JSON on the backend?

    - by briandus
    Hi friends, ok, I'm back. I totally simplified my problem to just three simple fields and I'm still stuck on the same line using the addJSONData method. I've been stuck on this for days and no matter how I rework the ajax call, the json string, blah blah blah...I can NOT get this to work! I can't even get it to work as a function when adding one row of data manually. Can anyone PLEASE post a working sample of jqGrid that works with ASP.NET and JSON? Would you please include 2-3 fields (string, integer and date preferably?) I would be happy to see a working sample of jqGrid and just the manual addition of a JSON object using the addJSONData method. Thanks SO MUCH!! If I ever get this working, I will post a full code sample for all the other posting for help from ASP.NET, JSON users stuck on this as well. Again. • Dynamic 'twitter style' urls with ASP.NET

    - by Desiny
    I am looking to produce an MVC site which has complete control of the url structure using routing. The specific requirements are: www.mysite.com/ = homepage (home controller) www.mysite.com/common/about = content page (common controller) www.mysite.com/common/contact = content page (common controller) www.mysite.com/john = twitter style user page (dynamic controller) www.mysite.com/sarah = twitter style user page (dynamic controller) www.mysite.com/me = premium style user page (premium controller) www.mysite.com/oldpage.html = 301 redirect to new page www.mysite.com/oldpage.asp?id=3333 = 301 redirect to new page My routes look as follows: routes.IgnoreRoute("{resource}.axd/{*pathInfo}"); routes.MapRoute( "Common", "common/{action}/{id}", new { controller = "common", action = "Index", id = "" } ); routes.MapRoute( "Home", "", new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = "" } ); routes.MapRoute( "Dynamic", "{id}", new { controller = "dynamic", action = "Index", id = "" } ); In order to handle the 301 rredirct, I have a database defining the old pages and their new page urls and a stored procdure to handle the lookup. The code (handler) looks like this: public class AspxCatchHandler : IHttpHandler, IRequiresSessionState { #region IHttpHandler Members public bool IsReusable { get { return true; } } public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context) { if (context.Request.Url.AbsolutePath.Contains("aspx") && !context.Request.Url.AbsolutePath.ToLower().Contains("default.aspx")) { string strurl = context.Request.Url.PathAndQuery.ToString(); string chrAction = ""; string chrDest = ""; try { DataTable dtRedirect = SqlFactory.Execute( ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["emptum"].ConnectionString, "spGetRedirectAction", new SqlParameter[] { new SqlParameter("@chrURL", strurl) }, true); chrAction = dtRedirect.Rows[0]["chrAction"].ToString(); chrDest = dtRedirect.Rows[0]["chrDest"].ToString(); chrDest = context.Request.Url.Host.ToString() + "/" + chrDest; chrDest = "http://" + chrDest; if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(strurl)) context.Response.Redirect("~/"); } catch { chrDest = "/";// context.Request.Url.Host.ToString(); } context.Response.Clear(); context.Response.Status = "301 Moved Permanently"; context.Response.AddHeader("Location", chrDest); context.Response.End(); } else { string originalPath = context.Request.Path; HttpContext.Current.RewritePath("/", false); IHttpHandler httpHandler = new MvcHttpHandler(); httpHandler.ProcessRequest(HttpContext.Current); HttpContext.Current.RewritePath(originalPath, false); } } #endregion } It is very simple to look up a user and in fact the above code does this. My problem is in the dynamic / premium part. I am trying to do the following: 1) in the dynamic controller, lookup the username. 2) if the username is in the user list (database), show the Index ActionResult of the Dynamic controller. 3) if the username is not found, look up the username in the premium list 4) if the username is fund in the premium list (database) then show the Index ActionResult of the Preium controller. 5) If all else fails jump to the 404 page (which will ask the user to sign up) Is this possible? Looking up the user twice is a bad idea for performance? How do I do this without redirecting?

  • ASP.NET MVC - Form Post always redirect when I just want to bind json result to a div

    - by Saxman
    Hi all, I'm having a little problem with json result. I'm submitting a contact form, and after the submission, I just want to return some json data (indicating either a success or failed and displays a message) back to the view, without causing a redirect, but it kept redirecting me to the action, here are the codes: HTML <div id="contactForm2" class="grid_6"> <div id="contactFormContainer"> @using (Html.BeginForm(MVC.Home.ActionNames.ContactForm, MVC.Home.Name, FormMethod.Post, new { id = "contactForm" })) { <p> <input type="text" tabindex="1" size="22" value="" id="contactName" class="text_input required" name="contactName" /> <label for="contactName"> <strong class="leftSpace">Your Name (required)</strong></label></p> <p> <input type="text" tabindex="2" size="22" value="" id="contactEmail" class="text_input required" name="contactEmail" /> <label for="contactEmail"> <strong class="leftSpace">Email (required)</strong></label></p> <p> <input type="text" tabindex="2" size="22" value="" id="contactPhone" class="text_input" name="contactPhone" /> <label for="contactPhone"> <strong class="leftSpace">Phone</strong></label></p> <p> <label> <strong class="leftSpace n">Message (required)</strong></label> <textarea tabindex="4" rows="4" cols="56" id="contactMessage" class="text_area required" name="contactMessage"></textarea></p> <p> <input type="submit" value="Send" tabindex="5" id="contactSubmit" class="button submit" name="contactSubmit" /></p> } </div> <div id="contactFormStatus"> </div> </div> Controller [HttpPost] public virtual JsonResult ContactForm(FormCollection formCollection) { var name = formCollection["contactName"]; var email = formCollection["contactEmail"]; var phone = formCollection["contactPhone"]; var message = formCollection["contactMessage"]; if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(name) || string.IsNullOrEmpty(email) || string.IsNullOrEmpty(message)) { return Json(new { success = false, message = "Please complete all the required fields so that I can get back to you. Thanks." }); } // Insert contact form data here... return Json(new { success = true, message = "Your inquery has been sent. Thank you." }); } javascript $(document).ready(function () { $('#contactSubmit').live('click', function () { var form = $('#contactForm'); var formData = form.serialize(); $.post('/Home/ContactForm', formData, function (result) { var status = $('#contactFormStatus'); if (result.success) { $('#contactForm')[0].reset; } status.append(result.message); }, 'json' ); return false; }); }); I've also tried this javascript, but also got a redirect $(document).ready(function () { $('#contactSubmit').live('click', function () { var form = $('#contactForm'); var formData = form.serialize(); $.ajax({ type: 'POST', url: '/Home/ContactForm', data: formData, success: function (result) { SubmitContactResult(result); }, cache: false }); }); function SubmitContactResult(result) { var status = $('#contactFormStatus'); if (result.success) { $('#contactForm')[0].reset; } status.append(result.message); } }); Any idea what's going on with my code? Thank you very much.

  • Change default markers for directions on google maps

    I'm a complete noob with google maps api and I started with a given script that I'm editing to what I need to do. In this case I have a map with some points in it that come from a database. They are like this (after I get the lat/lng from the database): var route1 = 'from: 37.496764,-5.913379 to: 37.392587,-6.00023'; var route2 = 'from: 37.392587,-6.00023 to: 37.376964,-5.990838'; routes = [route1, route2]; Then my script does the following: for(var j = 0; j < routes.length; j++) { callGDirections(j); document.getElementById("dbg").innerHTML += "called "+j+"<br>"; } And then the directions: function callGDirections(num) { directionsArray[num] = new GDirections(); GEvent.addListener(directionsArray[num], "load", function() { document.getElementById("dbg").innerHTML += "loaded "+num+"<br>"; var polyline = directionsArray[num].getPolyline(); polyline.setStrokeStyle({color:colors[num],weight:3,opacity: 0.7}); map.addOverlay(polyline); bounds.extend(polyline.getBounds().getSouthWest()); bounds.extend(polyline.getBounds().getNorthEast()); map.setCenter(bounds.getCenter(),map.getBoundsZoomLevel(bounds)); }); // === catch Directions errors === GEvent.addListener(directionsArray[num], "error", function() { var code = directionsArray[num].getStatus().code; var reason="Code "+code; if (reasons[code]) { reason = reasons[code] } alert("Failed to obtain directions, "+reason); }); directionsArray[num].load(routes[num], {getPolyline:true}); } The thing is, I want to change the A and B markers that I get from google on the map to the ones for each of the points that I'm using (each has it's particular icon in the database) but I don't know how to do this. Furthermore, what would be fantastic but I'm clueless if it's even possible is the following: when I get the directions I get something like this: (a) Street A directions (b) Street B And I want (a) Name of first point directions (b) Name of second point (also from database) I understand that my knowledge of the subject is very lacking and the question might be a bit vague, but I would appreciate any tip pointing me in the right direction. EDIT: Ok, I learned a lot from the google api with this problem but I'm still far from what I need. I learned how to hide the default markers doing this: // Hide the route markers when signaled. GEvent.addListener(directionsArray[num], "addoverlay", hideDirMarkers); // Not using the directions markers so hide them. function hideDirMarkers(){ var numMarkers = directionsArray[num].getNumGeocodes() for (var i = 0; i < numMarkers; i++) { var marker = directionsArray[num].getMarker(i); if (marker != null) marker.hide(); else alert("Marker is null"); } } And now when I create new markers doing this: var point = new GLatLng(lat,lng); var marker = createMarker(point,html); map.addOverlay(marker); They appear but they are not clickable (the popup with the html won't show)

  • QGraphicsView and custom Cursors

    - by Etienne de Martel
    I am trying to make use of a mix of custom cursors and preset cursors for my QGraphicsView. In my implementation we have created a notion of "modes" for the view. Meaning that depending on what "mode" the user is in, different things will happen on the left-click, or left-click drag. Anyway, none of that is the problem, just the context. The problem arises when I try to change the cursor for each mode. For instance, for mode 1 we want to show the regular Arrow cursor, but for mode 2, we want to use a custom pixmap. Seemingly simple we call graphicsview->viewport()->setCursor(Qt::QArrowCursor)  when we are switching to mode 1, and graphicsview->viewport()->setCursor(our custom cursor) for mode 2. Except it doesn't work at all. Firstly, the cursor does not change to the custom cursor. That is the first problem. However, if through another operation the drag mode of the graphics view gets set to ScrollHandDrag, the cursor will switch to the custom cursor once the drag operation is complete. Weird. But the plot thickens... Once we switch to the custom cursor, it can never be changed back to the ArrorCursor no matter how many times we call setCursor(Qt::QArrowCursor). it also doesn't seem to matter whether I call setCursor on the viewport or the graphics view itself. So, just for fun, I added a call to graphicsview->unsetCursor() just before we want to change the cursor, and that at least rectifies the second problem. The cursor changes just fine so long as we do a little HandDragging in between. Better, but certainly not optimal. However it should be noted, that doing the unsetCursor on the viewport doesn't work. it must absolutely be done on the graphicsview - regardless of the fact that we are setting the cursor on the viewport. To completely patch over the problem I have added these two lines after I set the cursor: graphicsview->setDragMode(QGraphicsView::ScrollHandDrag); graphicsview->setDragMode(QGraphicsView::NoDrag); Which works, but ye gads!! So something magical is happening inside these two methods that fixes the problem, but glancing at the code I don't see what. Something to do with the fact that the drag mode is changing the cursor I imagine. Just for completeness, I should also mention that the thing that triggers the mode change, is a QPushButton that has been added to the scene using QGraphicsScene->addWidget(). I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but you never know. I am hoping that either someone could clarify why I need to make these seemingly random calls. I don't think I am doing anything wrong anywhere. Thanks in advance for any help. EDIT: Here is an actual code example with the cursor patches as described above. You can look at and/or download them from the link below. It was a little long to paste here. I included the framework around which the cursors are changed, because I have a funny feeling that that is important somehow. https://gist.github.com/712654 The code where the problem lies is in MyGraphicsView.cpp starting at line 104. This is where the cursor is set in the graphics view. It is exactly as described above. Keep in mind, with the very ugly patches in place the cursors do work - more or less. Without those lines you will see very clearly the problems listed in the post above. Also included in the link, is all the code for a mainWindow that uses the view, etc... the only thing missing are the images I am using. But the images themselves don't matter, any 16x16 pngs will do.

  • Apache/PHP serving file multiple times

    - by easement
    I have a system with a download.php page. The page takes and id and loads a file based on from the DB Record and then serves it up. I've noticed a couple instances where files are requested multiple times in short time spans (20ms). Times that are too quick for human input. There are plenty of instances where the downloader functions fine. However, in taking a closer look at the downloader’s usage, I did see some interesting behavior. For instance, the IP address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (which is one in a range owned by xxxxxx.de in Germany) came to the site through Google. They browsed around and then came to the page http://site.com/xxxx/press+125.php There they issued a request for /download.php?id=/ZZ/n+aH55Y= (a PDF) at 9:04:23AM. That alone is not a big deal. However, what is interesting is that the server seems to have been quite preoccupied with serving that request. In the logs the request first completes between 9:09:48 and 9:10:00. It looks like the user must have gotten tired of waiting during that time and requested the document two more times. Between 09:14:47 and 09:15:00 the same request appears again, except it is from 9:04:43AM, 20ms later than the first request. Then it pops up a third time, with a request that started at 09:05:06 completing between 09:19:55 and 09:19:58! I’m suspicious of that document. In looking through the logs I see other instances where it takes the server a little while to handle that specific file. Check out this list of requests from zzz.zzz.zzz.zzz[different than above] for the file /download.php?id=/ZZ/n+aH55Y= (the same docuemnt as before): Request time Complete Time 04:32:43 04:33:36 04:32:50 04:33:36 04:32:51 04:33:38 04:33:05 04:33:38 04:33:34 04:33:42 04:33:05 04:33:42 So something is definitely going on. Whether it has to do with this specific document tripping up the server, the download.php page’s code, or if we’re just seeing the evidence of some server level overload as it plays out in real time I’m not yet sure. In fairness, there are other instances of people downloading /download.php?id=/ZZ/n+aH55Y= (the same PDF) without error. However, it is interesting that the multiple processes only seem to happen with this one file, and then only when it is accessed through the page http://site.com/press+125.php . It bears further investigation if there’s something amiss inside the code that causes the system to fire off multiple download requests that occupy the server. I don't know if this press+125.php is a rabbit hole, but there is weird consicence. Any ideas? I'm totally out of ideas. Apache maxed out? Things like that. ///DOWNLOAD.php $file = new files(); $file->comparison_filter("id", "=", $id); //sql to load if ($file->load()) { $file->serve(); } //FILES function serve() { if ($this->is_loaded) { if (file_exists($this->get_value("filename"))) { if ($this->get_value("content_type") != "") { header("Content-Type: " . $this->get_value("content_type")); } header("Content-Length: " . filesize($this->get_value("filename"))); if ($this->get_value("flag_image") == 0 || $this->get_value("flag_image") == false) { header("Cache-Control: private"); header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=" . urlencode($this->get_value("original_filename"))); } set_time_limit(0); @readfile($this->get_value("filename")); exit; } } }

  • Modern alternatives to Java

    - by Ralph
    I have been a Java developer for 14 years and have written an enterprise-level (~500 kloc) Swing application that uses most of the standard library APIs. Recently, I have become disappointed with the progress that the language has made to "modernize" itself, and am looking for an alternative for ongoing development. I have considered moving to the .NET platform, but I have issues with using something the only runs well in Windows (I know about Mono, but that is still far behind Microsoft). I also plan on buying a new Macbook Pro as soon as Apple releases their new rumored Arrandale-based machines and want to develop in an environment that will feel "at home" in Unix/Linux. I have considered using Python or Ruby, but the standard Java library is arguably the largest of any modern language. In JVM-based languages, I looked at Groovy, but am disappointed with its performance. Rumor has it that with the soon-to-be released JDK7, with its InvokeDynamic instruction, this will improve, but I don't know how much. Groovy is also not truly a functional language, although it provides closures and some of the "functional" features on collections. It does not embrace immutability. I have narrowed my search down to two JVM-based alternatives: Scala and Clojure. Each has its strengths and weaknesses. I am looking for opinions. I am not an expert at either of these languages; I have read 2 1/2 books on Scala and am currently reading Stu Halloway's book on Clojure. Scala is strongly statically typed. I know the dynamic language folks claim that static typing is a crutch for not doing unit testing, but it does provide a mechanism for compile-time location of a whole class of errors. Scala is more concise than Java, but not as much as Clojure. Scala's inter-operation with Java seems to be better than Clojure's, in that most Java operations are easier to do in Scala than in Clojure. For example, I can find no way in Clojure to create a non-static initialization block in a class derived from a Java superclass. For example, I like the Apache commons CLI library for command line argument parsing. In Java and Scala, I can create a new Options object and add Option items to it in an initialization block as follows (Java code): final Options options = new Options() { { addOption(new Option("?", "help", false, "Show this usage information"); // other options } }; I can't figure out how to the same thing in Clojure (except by using (doit...)), although that may reflect my lack of knowledge of the language. Clojure's collections are optimized for immutability. They rarely require copy-on-write semantics. I don't know if Scala's immutable collections are implemented using similar algorithms, but Rich Hickey (Clojure's inventor) goes out of his way to explain how that language's data structures are efficient. Clojure was designed from the beginning for concurrency (as was Scala) and with modern multi-core processors, concurrency takes on more importance, but I occasionally need to write simple non-concurrent utilities, and Scala code probably runs a little faster for these applications since it discourages, but does not prohibit, "simple" mutability. One could argue that one-off utilities do not have to be super-fast, but sometimes they do tasks that take hours or days to complete. I know that there is no right answer to this "question", but I thought I would open it up for discussion. Are there other JVM-based languages that can be used for enterprise level development?

  • Matrix Multiplication with Threads: Why is it not faster?

    - by prelic
    Hey all, So I've been playing around with pthreads, specifically trying to calculate the product of two matrices. My code is extremely messy because it was just supposed to be a quick little fun project for myself, but the thread theory I used was very similar to: #include <pthread.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #define M 3 #define K 2 #define N 3 #define NUM_THREADS 10 int A [M][K] = { {1,4}, {2,5}, {3,6} }; int B [K][N] = { {8,7,6}, {5,4,3} }; int C [M][N]; struct v { int i; /* row */ int j; /* column */ }; void *runner(void *param); /* the thread */ int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { int i,j, count = 0; for(i = 0; i < M; i++) { for(j = 0; j < N; j++) { //Assign a row and column for each thread struct v *data = (struct v *) malloc(sizeof(struct v)); data->i = i; data->j = j; /* Now create the thread passing it data as a parameter */ pthread_t tid; //Thread ID pthread_attr_t attr; //Set of thread attributes //Get the default attributes pthread_attr_init(&attr); //Create the thread pthread_create(&tid,&attr,runner,data); //Make sure the parent waits for all thread to complete pthread_join(tid, NULL); count++; } } //Print out the resulting matrix for(i = 0; i < M; i++) { for(j = 0; j < N; j++) { printf("%d ", C[i][j]); } printf("\n"); } } //The thread will begin control in this function void *runner(void *param) { struct v *data = param; // the structure that holds our data int n, sum = 0; //the counter and sum //Row multiplied by column for(n = 0; n< K; n++){ sum += A[data->i][n] * B[n][data->j]; } //assign the sum to its coordinate C[data->i][data->j] = sum; //Exit the thread pthread_exit(0); } source: http://macboypro.com/blog/2009/06/29/matrix-multiplication-in-c-using-pthreads-on-linux/ For the non-threaded version, I used the same setup (3 2-d matrices, dynamically allocated structs to hold r/c), and added a timer. First trials indicated that the non-threaded version was faster. My first thought was that the dimensions were too small to notice a difference, and it was taking longer to create the threads. So I upped the dimensions to about 50x50, randomly filled, and ran it, and I'm still not seeing any performance upgrade with the threaded version. What am I missing here?

  • What's wrong in this C program..? [closed]

    - by AGeek
    struct bucket { int nStrings; //No. of Strings in a Bucket. char strings[MAXSTRINGS][MAXWORDLENGTH]; // A bucket row can contain maximum 9 strings of max string length 10. };//buck[TOTBUCKETS]; void lexSorting(char array[][10], int lenArray, int symb) //symb - symbol, sorting based on character symbols. { int i, j; int bucketNo; int tBuckNStrings; bucket buck[TOTBUCKETS]; for(i=0; i<lenArray; i++) { bucketNo = array[i][symb] - 'a'; // Find Bucket No. in which the string is to be placed. tBuckNStrings = buck[bucketNo].nStrings; // temp variable for storing nStrings var in bucket structure. strcpy(buck[bucketNo].strings[tBuckNStrings],array[i]); // Store the string in its bucket. buck[bucketNo].nStrings = ++tBuckNStrings; //Increment the nStrings value of the bucket. } // lexSorting(array, lenArray, ++symb); printf("****** %d ******\n", symb); for(i=0; i<TOTBUCKETS; i++) { printf("%c = ", i+'a'); for(j=0; j<buck[i].nStrings; j++) printf("%s ",buck[i].strings[j]); printf("\n"); } } int main() { char array[][10] = {"able","aback","a","abet","acid","yawn","yard","yarn","year","yoke"}; int lenArray = 10; int i; printf("Strings: "); for(i=0; i<lenArray; i++) printf("%s ",array[i]); printf("\n"); lexSorting(array, lenArray, 0); } Well here is the complete code, that I am trying. since its been a long time since i have touched upon C programming, so somewhere i am making mistake in structure declaration. The problem goes here:- 1) I have declared a structure above and its object as array(buck[]). 2) Now when I declare this object array along with the structure, it works fine.. I have commented this thing right now. 3) But when I declare this object array inside the function.. because ultimately i have to declare inside function( as i need to build a recursive program, where objects will be created in very recursive call) then the program is throwing segmentation fault. Expected Output > [others@centos htdocs]$ ./a.out > Strings: able aback a abet acid yawn > yard yarn year yoke > ****** 0 ****** > a = able aback a abet acid > b = > c > . > . > y = yawn yard yarnyear yoke > z = Actual Output [others@centos htdocs]$ ./a.out Strings: able aback a abet acid yawn yard yarn year yoke Segmentation fault I have no idea, what difference I made in this. Kindly help. Thanks.

  • How to replace slide effect to fade out/fade in effect on this slideshow?

    - by LDam
    Hi guys! I need replace slide effect to fade-out/fade-in effect on the prev and next slide functions: function animate(dir,clicked){ u = true; switch(dir){ case 'next': t = t+1; m = (-(t*w-w)); current(t); if(o.autoHeight){autoHeight(t);} if(s<3){ if (t===3){$(o.slides,obj).children(':eq(0)').css({left:(s*w)});} if (t===2){$(o.slides,obj).children(':eq('+(s-1)+')').css({position:'absolute',left:(w)});} } $(o.slides,obj).animate({left: m}, o.slidespeed,function(){ if (t===s+1) { t = 1; $(o.slides,obj).css({left:0},function(){$(o.slides,obj).animate({left:m})}); $(o.slides,obj).children(':eq(0)').css({left: 0}); $(o.slides,obj).children(':eq('+(s-1)+')').css({ position:'absolute',left:-w}); } if (t===s) $(o.slides,obj).children(':eq(0)').css({left:(s*w)}); if (t===s-1) $(o.slides,obj).children(':eq('+(s-1)+')').css({left:s*w-w}); u = false; }); break; case 'prev': t = t-1; m = (-(t*w-w)); current(t); if(o.autoHeight){autoHeight(t);} if (s<3){ if(t===0){$(o.slides,obj).children(':eq('+(s-1)+')').css({position:'absolute',left:(-w)});} if(t===1){$(o.slides,obj).children(':eq(0)').css({position:'absolute',left:0});} } $(o.slides,obj).animate({left: m}, o.slidespeed,function(){ if (t===0) { t = s; $(o.slides,obj).children(':eq('+(s-1)+')').css({position:'absolute',left:(s*w-w)}); $(o.slides,obj).css({left: -(s*w-w)}); $(o.slides,obj).children(':eq(0)').css({left:(s*w)}); } if (t===2 ) $(o.slides,obj).children(':eq(0)').css({position:'absolute',left:0}); if (t===1) $(o.slides,obj).children(':eq('+ (s-1) +')').css({position:'absolute',left:-w}); u = false; }); break; case 'fade': t = [t]*1; m = (-(t*w-w)); current(t); if(o.autoHeight){autoHeight(t);} $(o.slides,obj).children().fadeOut(o.fadespeed, function(){ $(o.slides,obj).css({left: m}); $(o.slides,obj).children(':eq('+(s-1)+')').css({left:s*w-w}); $(o.slides,obj).children(':eq(0)').css({left:0}); if(t===s){$(o.slides,obj).children(':eq(0)').css({left:(s*w)});} if(t===1){$(o.slides,obj).children(':eq('+(s-1)+')').css({ position:'absolute',left:-w});} $(o.slides,obj).children().fadeIn(o.fadespeed); u = false; }); break; default: break; } }; I had tried, but the auto restart didn't work! You can view the documentation and download the complete code with the examples in this link: http://github.com/nathansearles/loopedSlider/tree/master Please help me! (Sorry for my bad english!)
