  • Proc causing a random TypeError

    - by go____yourself
    I'm refactoring some code and this proc is causing an error randomly and I don't know why or how to debug it... Any ideas? New code with proc defense_moves, offense_moves = [], [] determine_move = ->move,side,i { side << move.count(move[i]) } defense.size.times { |i| determine_move.(defense, defense_moves, i) } offense.size.times { |i| determine_move.(offense, offense_moves, i) } dm = defense[defense_moves.index(defense_moves.max)].nil? ? [0] : defense[defense_moves.index(defense_moves.max)] om = offense[offense_moves.index(offense_moves.max)].nil? ?   • Getting the current item number or index when using will_paginate in rails app

    - by Rich
    I have a rails app that stores movies watched, books read, etc. The index page for each type lists paged collections of all its items, using will_paginate to bring back 50 items per page. When I output the items I want to display a number to indicate what item in the total collection it is. The numbering should be reversed as the collection is displayed with most recent first. This might not relate to will_paginate but rather some other method of calculation. I will be using the same ordering in multiple types so it will need to be reusable. As an example, say I have 51 movies. The first item of the first page should display: Fight Club - Watched: 30th Dec 2010 Whilst the last item on the page should display: The Matrix - Watched: 3rd Jan 2010 The paged collection is available as an instance variable e.g. @movies, and @movies.count will display the number of items in the paged collection. So if we're on page 1, movies.count == 50, whilst on page 2 @movies.count == 1. Using Movie.count would give 51. If the page number and page size can be accessed the number could be calculated so how can they be returned? Though I'm hopeful there is something that already exists to handle this calculation!

  • Problem with displaying usernames in my flash[:notice] - Agile Web Development With Rails - Chapter

    - by Lee
    I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong here. I can’t seem to get the #{@user.name} to work in my flash[:notice] Everything else works just fine I can add new users, but when I add a new user instead of saying “User John Doe was successfully created”, it says “User #{@user.name} was successfully created.” I'm at this point in the depot app: depot_p/app/controllers/users_controller.rb to work.

  • 2 Rails Apps, 1 Database (using Heroku)

    - by Paul A.
    I've made 2 apps, App A and App B. App A's sole purpose is to allow users to sign up and App B's purpose is to take select users from App A email them. Since App A & B were created independently & are hosted in 2 separate Heroku instances, how can App B access the users database in App A? Is there a way to push certain relevant rows from App A to App B?

  • RSpec - mocking a class method

    - by Chris Kilmer
    I'm trying to mock a class method with rspec: lib/db.rb class Db def self.list(options) Db::Payload.list(options) end end lib/db/payload.rb class Db::Payload def self.list(options={}) end end In my spec, I'm trying to setup the expectation Db::Payload.list will be called when I call Db.list: describe Db do before(:each) do @options = {} Db::Payload.should_receive(:list).with(@options) end it 'should build the LIST payload' do Db.list(@options) end end The problem is that I am always receiving the following error: undefined method `should_receive' for Db::Payload:Class Any help understanding this error would be most appreciated :-)

  • Rails: How to have dynamic association

    - by Aaron Dufall
    I'll use an example to explain what behaviour I would like to achieve. If you had a project management app and you added a task, but not all the contributors are users of the app. So when you adding contributors to the task you can enter a user name or email address. Here is the part that I'm finding a little tricky. The task model has many contributors which are linked through the user model, but from this point on I want to achieve 2 things. Store the non members email(this would obviously be quite simple) If that email address was to create an account it would then link that user to the task and remove the temporally saved email. This way, when that user creates an account all the related tasks will already be associated with their email. Is this something that i could achieve with a polymorphic association? or is there something else I should be looking at?

  • Using user editable image URL in application. Security issues.

    - by sharas
    Hi there. I am writing an application where users are required to show their photo, however as my server resources are very limited I can not let them upload it to the server. So I have three major questions: 1. How to properly validate photo URL? At least I can validate with regexp, however I need to check for file ending: `validates_format_of :photo_url, :with => URI::regexp(%w(http https))` 2. Security issues? XSS? Even I validate the picture at the moment of creation, hacker can replace image with malicious stuff anytime. 3. Maybe there are free asset stores with API?

  • One model and Many edit views

    - by user179438
    Hi, I have a model I named User, and I want use two different Views to edit it: the usual edit view and another view I called edit_profile. I had no problem in creating routing, controller and views: I added edit_profile and update_profile views, and I added on routes.rb the line: map.resources :users ,:member => {:edit_profile => :get, :update_profile => :put} The problem is: when I submit the form in edit_profile and some error occur in some input fields, rails reload the edit_path page instead of edit_profile_path page ! This is the form on edit_profile.html.erb form_for(:user, @user, :url => {:action => :update_profile}, :html => { :method => :put} ) do |f| = f.text_field :description = f.text_area :description = f.error_message_on :description .... .... = f.submit 'Update profile' After clicking Update profile, if input errors occur I want to show edit_profile view instead of edit view Do You have some ideas ? many thanks

  • Is there a way to flush html to the wire in Sinatra

    - by thismatt
    I have a Sinatra app with a long running process (a web scraper). I'd like the app flush the results of the crawler's progress as the crawler is running instead of at the end. I've considered forking the request and doing something fancy with ajax but this is a really basic one-pager app that really just needs to output a log to a browser as it's happening. Any suggestions?

  • Advanced find in Rails

    - by jriff
    Hi all I really suck at Rails' finders besides the most obvious. I always resort to SQL when things get more advanced than Model.find(:all, :conditions => ['field>? and field<? and id in (select id from table)', 1,2]) I have this method: def self.get_first_validation_answer(id) a=find_by_sql(" select answers.*, answers_registrations.answer_text from answers_registrations left join answers on answers_registrations.answer_id=answers.id where (answers_registrations.question_id in (select id from questions where validation_question=true)) and (sale_registration_id=#{id}) limit 1 ").first a.answer_text || a.text if a end Can someone create a find method that gets me what I want? Regards, Jacob

  • ActiveRecord has_many and polymorphic

    - by leomayleomay
    I've came into a problem while working with AR and polymorphic, here's the description, class Base < ActiveRecord::Base; end class Subscription < Base set_table_name :subscriptions has_many :posts, :as => :subscriptable end class Post < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :subscriptable, :polymorphic => true end in the console, >> s = Subscription.create(:name => 'test') >> s.posts.create(:name => 'foo', :body => 'bar') and it created a Post like: #<Post id: 1, name: "foo", body: "bar", subscriptable_type: "Base", subscriptable_id: 1, created_at: "2010-05-10 12:30:10", updated_at: "2010-05-10 12:30:10"> the subscriptable_type is Base but Subscription, anybody can give me a hand on this?

  • Ajax response seems to be getting lost

    - by Ringo Blancke
    I'm using the ddslick jquery dropdown plugin in conjunction with my Rails app. In view1, I have $('#challenges_dropdown').ddslick({ <snipped> onSelected: function (data) { $.ajax({ url: "/load_data", type: "GET", data: {"id": data.selectedData.value} }); } }); I.e., I make a call to my controller to load_data. The controller receives this correctly and then at the end, makes a call to render a separate view render "data" This view contains a script snippet that needs to run in order to update some elements of my original view. For some reason, this script snippet is just not running. I'm very confused. When I use a regular link with data-remote="true", then the whole process works perfectly. However, when I make an AJAX call, it fails. What's going on?? Thanks! Ringo

  • Rails Collection_select names

    - by Jack
    Hi, I am creating a Rails app and have added a form: <div class="field"> <%= f.label :title %><br /> <%= f.text_field :title %> </div> <div class="field"> <%= f.label :client_id %><br /> <%= collection_select(:project, :client_id, Client.all, :id, :contact_name, {:prompt => "Select a Client"}) %> </div> This currently displays the contact_name of the client. Is it possible to have it display a list of contact_names concatenated with the client_id? If so, how would I do this? Cheers

  • how to handle large dataset like sproutcore

    - by Nik
    Hello all, I really don't have any substantial code to show here, actually, that's kinda why I am writing: I looked at the SproutCore demo, especially the Collection demo, on http://demo.sproutcore.com/sample_controls/, and am amazed by its loading 200,000 records to the page so easily. I tried using Rails to provide 200,000 records and in a completely blank HTML page with <% @projects.each do |p| % <%= p.title % <% end % that freezes the browser for seconds on my m1530 laptop with 4gb ram and t7700 256gb ssd. Yet the sproutcore demo does not freeze and takes less than 3 seconds to load. What do you think the one technique they are using to enable this is? Thanks!

  • confusion using rjs for a link_to_remote

    - by odpogn
    My application layout contains a navigation div, and a content div constructed as a partial. I want to use ajax so that whenever a person clicks on a link in the navigation div, the contents of that page renders in the content div without a refresh. I'm confused on how to properly do this... any help for a rails noob??? thanks in advance~ application.html.erb <body> <div id="container"> <%= render 'layouts/header' %> <%= render 'layouts/content'%> <%= render 'layouts/footer' %> </div> </body> _header.html.erb <%= link_to_remote "Home", :url => { :controller => "pages", :action => "home" } %> _content.html.erb <div id="content"> <%= yield %> </div> pages_controller.rb def home @title = "Home" respond_to do |format| format.js end end home.rjs page.replace_html :container, :partial => 'layouts/content'

  • Get data from database with two conditions in one list

    - by Kreeki
    Hi coders out there, I'm new to this. I have a (sqlite3, but with ActiveRecord it doesn't matter) table called Messages and a model called Message. I want to find all messages in database that have user_id or reciever_id equal to the object user and his attribute id (for short user.id). I know it's probably just one simple line of code, but I wanna do it the right "rails" way and I don't have much experience with this. I'm using Rails 3. Thanks for any help. Cheers

  • Rails attribute alias

    - by Dr1Ku
    Hi, I was just wondering if it's possible to "rename" an association in Rails. Let's assume : # An ActiveRecord Class named SomeModelASubModel (some_model_a_sub_model.rb) class SomeModelASubModel < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :some_model_a_sub_model_items end # An ActiveRecord Class named SomeModelASubModelItem (some_model_a_sub_model_item.rb) class SomeModelASubModelItem < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :some_model_a_sub_model end At this point, calling some_model.items, where some_model is an instance of the SomeModelASubModel Class would trigger an undefined method error. What is the best practice for making this happen though, e.g. : # With a method_alias or something, would it be possible to : some_model = SomeModelASubModel.first # for instance items = some_model.items # For the reason stated, this doesn't work, one has to call : items = some_model.some_model_a_sub_model_items Is such a shorthand possible ? Thank you in advance !

  • link_to syntax with rails3 (link_to_remote) and basic javascript not working in a rails3 app?

    - by z3cko
    i am wondering if the basic link_to syntax is completely broken in current rails3 master or if i am doing some wrong syntax here. = link_to "name", nil, :onlick => "alert('Hello world!');" should actually produce an alert on click. very simple. does not work on my rails3 project! (also no error output!) any ideas? for the general link_to syntax i could not find an example where i could combine a link_to_remote with a confirmation, remote and html class (see my try below) = link_to "delete", {:action => "destroy", :remote => true, :method => :delete, :confirm => "#{a.title} wirklich L&ouml;schen?" }, :class => "trash" even the rails3 api does not help me here: http://rails3api.s3.amazonaws.com/index.html help!

  • Polymorphic associations in Rails

    - by Newy
    Say I have two models, Apples and Oranges, and they are both associated with a description in a Text model. Text is a separate class as I'd like to keep track of the different revisions. Is the following correct? Is there a better way to do this? [Apple] has_one :text, :as => :targit, :order => 'id DESC' has_many :revisions, :class_name => 'Text', :as => :targit, :order => 'id', :dependent => :destroy [Text] belongs_to :targit, :polymorphic => true
