• Why is HttpClient's GetStringAsync is unbelivable slow?

  I have a Windows Phone 8 project where I've taken to use the PCL (Portable Class Library) project too since I'm going to build a Win8 app to. However, while calling my api (in Azure) my HttpClient's GetStringAsync is so slow. I threw in a couple of debugs with datetime and GetStringAsync took like 14 seconds! And sometimes it takes longer. What I'm doing is retrieving simple JSON from my Azure API site. My Android client has no problem with getting that same data in a split second... so is there something I'm missing? The setup is pretty straight forward: HttpClient client = new HttpClient(); client.DefaultRequestHeaders.Accept.Add(new MediaTypeWithQualityHeaderValue("application/json")); client.DefaultRequestHeaders.Add("X-Token", "something"); string responseJSON = await client.GetStringAsync("url"); I've places the debug times right before and after the await there, in between it is 14 seconds! • 12.04: Apt-Get Update: failure to fetch; can't connect to any sources

  I realize there are dozens of "apt-get update: failure to fetch" questions (I read through all I could find), but my present circumstance is unique to 12.04 and it affects all sources; not just launchpad. Additionally, I've tried several different servers in Europe and the U.S. as well as the "main server" (wherever that is) and they all yield the same result: I can't connect to any software sources. Additionally, I'm fairly certain the problem stems from the upgrade from 11.10-12.04 I performed this morning, as updates worked immediately before. Updates from the Update Manager worked fine and I could download some things (mutter) from the Software Center without incident, which makes me think I can connect to some subset of the Ubuntu servers (however, several other Ubuntu servers--like extras--and some canonical servers are listed as 'unable to connect'). • C# Showing Form with WS_EX_NOACTIVATE flag

I saw some application which are are working in a similar fashion but they are showing the window while moving (like some virtual keyboards I saw) and also many questions on net about this issue but no answer. Can someone please tell me is it possible to show window/form like this while moving (like "normal" window) and if yes, how to do it? Thanks.

  Hi People, I have an environment variable set in Windows as TEST=abc£ which uses Windows-1252 code page. Now when I run a perl program - 'test.pl', this environment value comes properly. When I call another perl code - 'test2.pl' from 'test1.pl' either by system(..) or Win32::process(..), the environment comes garbled. Can someone provide information why this could be and way to resolve it? The version of perl I am using is 5.8. If my understanding is right, perl internally uses 'utf-8', so the initial process - 'test1.pl' received it right from windows1252-utf-8. When we call another process, should we convert back to windows 1252 code page? -Kartlee

  I'm using the jquery carousel and I have the image auto rotating here ( http://jsbin.com/unoce/2), so the issue I'm having is the content on the left is not AUTO rotating "with" the image and the arrow selection is not either. It only works when I click the content on the left and then the image on the right along with the arrow move appropriately together. Can someone provide support so I may get the text and the arrow to "auto" rotate with the image?   I have a WCF RIA Domain Service that contains a method I'd like to invoke when the user clicks a button: [Invoke] public MyEntity PerformAnalysis(int someId) { return new MyEntity(); } However, when I try to compile I'm given the following error: Operation named 'PerformAnalysis' does not conform to the required signature. Return types must be an entity, collection of entities, or one of the predefined serializable types. • Rendering WPF DrawingGroup to single ImageSource

  Currently I'm using a System.Windows.Media.DrawingGroup to store some tiled images (ImageDrawing) inside the Children-DrawingCollection property. Well the problem is now, this method gets really slow if you display the entire DrawingGroup in an Image control, because my DrawingGroup can contain hundreds or even thousands of small images it can really mess up the performance. So my first thought was to somehow render a single image from all the small ones inside the DrawingGroup and then only display that image, that would be much faster. But as you might have figured out I haven't found any solution so simply combine several images with WPF Imaging. It would really be great if someone could help with this problem or tell me how i can improve the performance with the DrawingGroup or even use another approach. One last thing, currently I'm using a RenderTargetBitmap to generate a single BitmapSource from the DrawingGroup, this approach isn't really faster, but it makes the scrolling and working on the Image control at least a little smoother.

  i am using visual studio team system 2008 and VSS 2005. I took a latest copy of a project from VSS. Now when i try to open that project, it is showing error "This version of visual studio does not support source control" and " Unexpected error enocountered. Restart the application Error : no such interfaces are supported File : vsee\internal\vscomptr.inl". When i open solution explorer, all projects are showing as unavailable. I tried VS--Tools--options-- source control--plugin selection and set plug in to Microsoft "Visual source safe" and when i open "Environment" tab it is showing "an error occured while loading this property page" Can someone help me???

  Hello, I am writing an Android 2.0 application that is going to be used in a somewhat remote location. There will be no internet connection available and it will be used outside of the U.S. I am considering the option of using an external Nokia or similar GPS device as a receiver/transmitter and connecting to it for use in my application via the bluetooth API. • Problems debugging using Cygwin gdb in Eclipse CDT(Helios)

  I am trying to debug an application using Eclipse CDT and cygwin gdb and I am facing a problem if my code calls Sleep(), it looks like whenever a sleep is encountered in the code the debugger seems to go in an infinite loop(I meant it never terminates or hit a breakpoint after sleep). On pressing pause the code is stuck on one of the thread on sigint::interrupt. Even my debugger console windows throw these error in the console output: [New thread 5968.0x1f98] Error: dll starting at 0x774a0000 not found. Error: dll starting at 0x775c0000 not found. [New thread 5968.0x19e8] Any idea what are these errors about? It would be helpful if someone can help me out here as I am new to eclipse and I am used to using VS so it has made be lazy to be honest and expect things to work out of box. Here are more details if required Windows 7 x64 bit. Eclipse 3.6 Helios with CDT plug-in compiled from the CVS head. Cygwin latest from website, I think it is 1.71

  I have a Python module that I would like to upload to PyPI. So far, it is working for Python 2.x. It shouldn't be too hard to write a version for 3.x now. But, after following guidelines for making modules in these places: Distributing Python Modules The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Packaging it's not clear to me how to support multiple source distributions for different versions of Python, and it's not clear if/how PyPI could support it. I envisage I would have separate code for: 2.x 2.6 (maybe, as a special case to use the new buffer API) 3.x How is it possible to set up a Python module in PyPI so that someone can do: easy_install modulename and it will install the right thing whether the user is using 2.x or 3.x?

For completeness, it is possible to recreate the scenario very easily: Create a new MVC web app. Run it up. Visit the About tab Modify the URL to read /Home/About/Flib - This obviously takes you to the action with an id of 'Flib' which we don't care about. Notice that the top menu link to About now actually links to /Home/About/Flib - this is wrong as far as I can see, as I now have absolutely no way of using site links to get back to /Home/About I really don't understand why I should be forced to modify all of my Html.ActionLinks to include new { id = string.Empty } for the routevalues and null for the htmlAttribs. This seems especially out of whack because I already specify id = 0 as part of the route itself. Hopefully I'm missing a trick here.

• Extra blank page when converting HTML to PDF using abcPDF.

  I have an HTML report, with each print page contained by a <div class="page">. The page class is defined as width: 180mm; height: 250mm; page-break-after: always; background-position: centre top; background-image: url(Images/MainBanner.png); background-repeat: no-repeat; padding-top: 30mm; After making a few changes to my report content, when I call abcPDF to convert the report to PDF, suddenly I'm getting a blank page inserted after every real report page. I don't want to roll back the changes I've just made to remove this problem, so I'm hoping someone may know why the extra pages are being inserted.

• Can I set auto-width on an Open XML SDK-generated spreadsheet without calculating the individual wid

  I'm working on creating an Excel file from a large set of data by using the Open XML SDK. I've finally managed to get a functional Columns node, which specifies all of the columns which will actually be used in the file. There is a "BestFit" property that can be set to true, but this apparently does not do anything. Is there a way to automatically set these columns to "best fit", so that when someone opens this file, they're already sized to the correct amount? Or am I forced to calculate how wide each column should be in advance, and set this in the code?

  I am working on an iPhone application which uses MKMapView and shows userlocation. I am getting memory leaks where leaked object is NSCFArray of size 128 Bytes, GeneralBlock-16, GenralBlock-8 when is set MKMapView's showUserLocation property as TRUE. If is set it as NO then i dont get this leak. Can anyone suggest that what can be the possible reason for this. Is this a bug in MKMapView class or is am I using the MKMapView incorrectly.   I don't know what exactly this feature is, but I would like to simulate this in my Silverlight project. I am a C# developer and am moving to Silverlight and Expression Studio (Blend) for richer UX. Let's say I have some user controls and would like them to come into the screen (slide-in and out) as shown in the following site I found: http://www.templatemonster.com/silverlight-templates/28722.html On the menu, as one clicks on the menu item, the 'screen' slides to the left and then a new 'screen' slides in from the left to right. I really want to learn this stuff, but don't know what these 'features' are called? For example what are these 'screens' called in the xaml world? Also, what is the 'slide-in/out' called in the xaml world? Can someone point me to a good article/whitepaper? Thanks in advance for any advice.
