  • Rails: form input type and getting the filename

    Hi, As I am using Ruby on Rails to build an application, which only runs locally, I am lost in the woods (a nuby without a compass). I have a simple MVC application and my view is missing one thing I could really use. I want to select a local file just to retrieve it's filename. I know it's relatively easy to use the form tag helpers for uploading: <%= file_field 'upload', 'datafile' %></p> I wonder how I could get the filename from the selected file, without uploading the file.

    I am adding my Javsacript file in pages with different query strings in the script path like this: Page1: <script type="text/javascript" src="file.js?abc=123"></script> Page2: <script type="text/javascript" src="file.js?abc=456"></script> Page3: <script type="text/javascript" src="file.js?abc=789"></script> In my Javascript file, how can I get the value of the "abc" param? I tried using window.location for this, but that does not work. When https-SSL encrypts both of this methods, what is the difference in way browser does this. Which parts are encrypted and which are not? I somewhere read, that the destination url is not encrypted in POST, is that true? If it is true and same in GET, where are all the parameters?

    I have this function for adding options to a Select list: function addOption(selectbox, value, text, cl ) { var optn = document.createElement("OPTION"); optn.text = text; optn.value = value; if (cl==1){ optn.className = "nav_option_main"; } selectbox.options.add(optn); } I have just discovered the "optgroup" tag, but I don't know how to implement it to the drop list. The function above is called on another selectboxes "OnChange" event, to fill sub-select-box with the desired options. I don't think it should be too difficult to add the "optgroup" tag into this, or is it? Thanks and if you need more input let me know...

    I want to open a file in a web browser (anyone will do) and I want to see it in the view source mode instead of in the standard browser window. This can be done in two steps, by opening the file and then go to the view source window (different shortcuts in each browser), but I want to directly go to the view source window. I have not found any such command line argument for Firefox nor Chrome. Is this possible just with the base browser functionality?

    I have an IIS web site. This web site contains other web sites so the structure is like that. \ MainWebSite\ App1\ App2\ All sites are Asp.net MVC Webapplications. In the MasterPage of App1 i reference the Script-files like that <script type="text/javascript" src="../../Scripts/jquery-ui-1.8.custom.min.js"></script> The Problem is that he now tries to find the File at http:\server\MainWebSite\Scripts.... how can i workaround that? should i put all my Scripts and CSS files into the root directory is that a preferred solution?

    I have a textarea that I would like to send a value to and I am using the following to achieve this.. <textarea style="width: 300px; height: 150px;" name="message"></textarea> <a href="#updates" onclick="document.sendform.message.value='7'; return true;"style="color:white">Year 7</a> This is working as expected however it also overwrites any text that is in the textarea already, is there any way I can achieve this without over writing the existing text in the textarea?     Go to my blog and please tell me how to achieve vertical alignment :( My situation truly is different and I need help :) The reason this is so difficult is because holder is the div that contains everything, outer are the icons at the bottom, and tooltip are the divs that pop up. I need tooltip to be vertically aligned but they are actually below outer. Each icon is connected to their post so you can't keep them all in one div.

    I am using jquery to sort through a group of paragraph tags (kudos to Aaron Harun). It pulls the value "letter" (a letter) from the url string and displays only paragraphs that start with that letter. It hides all others and also consolidates the list so that there are no duplicates showing. For example, if a paragraph starts with 'The Amazing', I would like it to show up on the 'A' page, not the 'T' page, like it currently is. Is there a way to have a single page for (all) numbers? For example, the url to the page would be something similar to domain.com/index.php?letter=0 and this would show only the paragraph tags that start with a number, any number. I can currently do this with single numbers but, I would like 1 page for all numbers.

  • jQuery - Creating a dynamic content loader using $.get()

    Hello everybody! (hello dr.Nick) :) So I posted a question yesterday about a content loader plugin for jQuery I thought I'd use, but didn't get it to work. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2469291/jquery-could-use-a-little-help-with-a-content-loader Although it works now, I see some disadvantages to it. It requires heaploads of files where the content is in. Since the code essentially picks up the url in the href link and searches that file for a div called #content What I would really like to do is to collect all of these files into a single file and give each div/container it's unique ID and just pick up the content from those. So i won't need so many separate files laying around. Nick Craver thought I should use $.get()instead since it's got a descent callback. But I'm not that strong in js at all.. And I don't even know what this means. I'm basically used to Visual Basic and passing of arguments, storing in txt files etc. Which is really not suitable for this purpose. So what's the "normal" way of doing things like this? I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who's thought of this right? I basically want to get content from a single php file that contains alot of divs with unique IDs. And without much hassle, fade out the existing content in my main page, pick up the contents from the other file and fade it into my main page.
